We went there because the reviews were very good Very average service, not friendly Fish quite good but not crazy Frozen fries and not good But above all overpriced (3 fish & chips and 3 sodas 76 pounds)

The eel jelly is also delicious!

£8 for a very small portion of chips and a single battered sausage... certainly not very good value for money

Really delicious fish and chips. Had the large Haddock with mushy peas. Chips, tartar sauce and a lemon wedge come on the plate too. Only downside is that its a bit pricey but for central London, what do you expect.

Everything was great until my entire family got food poisoning. Be aware. We ate nothing afterwards. So no other suspect. 10/08/24 around 4-5 pm.

The fish was very crispy and tasty, the fries were okay. As a tourist you should definitely be careful when paying in cash. I don't want to accuse anyone of this being intentional. However, we paid with a 50 pound note and then received 10 pounds too little back. Luckily we noticed, spoke up and then got the 10 pounds

I had never tried this typical British dish, and I can say that I loved it, very well served, great quantity and quality! The staff were super helpful and friendly!

If you want a quality, tasty real fish and chips in London, this is the place for you! Tasty fish with perfect fries, add a few smashed peas and it's perfect! The food is served very quickly and the regular size is easily enough for a good meal! We will be back!

Terrible tourist trap that was in no way genuinely 'established in the 50s' nor is a 'legend of the east end' or whatever it's pay-to-spray graffiti claims. This restaurant offers average food to tourists and has done since 2015 or so... Flotsam washed up on the wave of gentrification that feeds off the heritage it loosely claims to espouse.

I had the Summer Spring Rolls that were great but could use a different sauce, something closer to a Nouc Cham rather than a chili sauce similar to what you can get yourself in a grocery store. I also got the Chicken Pad Thai and the sauce was off there too, it didn’t taste like the Pad Thai’s I’ve had in Thailand but was too rich and it didn’t feel home made here either. However, I did finish everything on my plate regardless. It wasn’t bad just not as expected. I would come back but would go for the curries next time, they looked delicious.

Saw the high reviews in Google and decided to give it a try at this restaurant, but I left with great disappointment. As shown in the photos, the calamari rings were shockingly small portioned for its price. It wasn’t a side dish but a proper appetiser at a regular price! Unbelievably overpriced! As for the fish, it was clearly refried and not up to par. This might be a restaurant with a long history but the food speaks for itself.

Bad atmosphere, the waiters were not careful and always in a hurry. Those aside, that was the most unflavoured fish I've ever tasted, the chips were soggy, and the tartar sauce had absolutely no taste. Never again.

Great food and amazing service. Ate there yesterday with family, and all of us enjoyed our Fish & Chips accompanied with delicious orders of Mushy Peas, Curry sauce, and a gherkin. Excellent. Will go there again next time in London :)

The perfect place to taste fish & chips. The fries were not salted, but that can be solved with a salt shaker :) The environment was nice, there was not a long wait for the food. 10/10

Poppies is a chain of fish and chips restaurants in London. That being said, they do a good job in selling decently solid English fair to the masses, especially to tourists. The food is tasty and fresh, and the portions are generous, though it is a bit on the pricey side in my opinion. I tried mushy peas for the first time there, and as an American, I was surprised that they reminded me so much of split pea soup. Poppies' mushy peas were delicious, though I suspect they could have been a bit thicker. The decor is overwhelmingly patriotic and British which is kind of fun if you are visiting from a different country and have kids/teens with you. The service is good and the interior bright and clean. If you don't mind paying a bit more for dining in it's a fun place to try. However I don't see it becoming a local's personal weekly chippy, for that you're better off finding a local onw that is run by surly fried fish slinger, who barely converses, and takes only cash.

Delicious fish and chips! Crispy batter and perfectly cooked. Their tartar sauce was also nice. They are also accommodating of allergies and dietary needs. The fish is halal (no beer batter) and they also cooked my sister's meal in vegetable oil instead of nut oil.

Just brought a small fish and chips to share with a friend. We visited the Brick Lane branch, which has a takeaway section and find in. As usual the chips were hot, crispy and moreish and the fish translucent and flaky with perfect crispy batter. This meal was the perfect snack while walking around You can dine in without making booking. The shop is bright and retro and the quality of the food on all occasions I’ve visited has been fresh and tasty. Staff are polite and professional and were kind enough to allow me to wash my hands. Fortunately, the weather was lovely and so we sat in a nearby picket park.

Hunted down Poppies Fish and Chips based on the online reviews, a twenty-minute walk past a few other "fish and chip establishments". The service (welcomed to the roped off area for dining in ... I was on my own, so was given the single seater "lucky no 7" table ...), was instant and friendly. Lots of waiting staff to serve you within seconds. The food was lovely, succulent and tasty. And a glass of prosecco helped it all down. Probably the beat fish and chips I've had in London. Worth a visit. It would be a little expensive for a large group ... but this is a restaurant if you eat in, not a take away fish and chip shop, and as such, well priced.

Try something famous food in town

Classic British fish and chips, steak pie, haddock, cod, calamari, mashed peas, eel and more. The dining room is full of memorabilia and British retro decor. Love it.

Our hotel concierge referred us here and it was definitely worth the walk in the rain!

Impromptu stop for dinner on Saturday and we were delighted. Fragrant red curry, lovely sticky rice and beautiful noodles. Wasn't sure what to expect as we'd never been before. The restaurant is quite small and informal, which was quite nice for a quick bite to eat. Service was good and food came pretty quickly. The food was absolutely delicious, packed with flavour and really satisfying. Will definitely be back.

Can’t visit England without eating some fish and chips. So I did. I got high expectations for the food, which didn’t quite met. Price is way too high for the amount of food you get. Fish and chips were average for me. A fish meal, a side dish and two drinks were almost £30. Employees were nice and helpful.

I ordered Haddock and it was fine. It was nice that the servers were friendly and gave good menu recommendations. + Lemonade is delicious.

The restaurant is very basic, however nice and clean. Quite small so would advise booking. The food was excellent, authentic, flavourful and well presented. Reasonably priced as well. Would definitely recommend and return.

Tourist trap unfortunately, the fish and chips weren't tasty at all and were a crazy price.

I haven't been in years! It was just before noon and my child was hungry. So I thought on a rainy day an order of take-away chips would hit the spot! At first they were decent but at the bottom we both spat some out they were so stale and disgusting. I'm absolutely REVOLTED. I know an order of chips for £3.70 isn't a huge profit generator but to serve stale chips is absurd and disgusting. Chucked a third of the box in the bin. Won't ever go back. I'd rather trek all the way to Toff's in Muswell Hill!!!

Best Fish & Chips in London!! Super nice place, the staff are welcoming

This gave me 1950s diner vibes. The staff could not have been more courteous. I did find the fish a little bland but I did get the cod which is the healthier option compared to the haddock which is a lot fishier. I was recommended to substitute the chips with peas. I paid about 28 pounds total, for one person which was dinner and a beer. It felt like a lot of money for something that wasn't that good.

Fish was average, chips were the worst chips I've had in a very long time, the portions are small and by the time you remove all the green/ black chips you are left with about 8 chips!

This what I always imagined fish and chips in London to be. Large piece of crispy fish, cooked perfectly, a pile of chips and a side of mushy peas. Poppies does is well. The place has a great nostalgic theme, and the staff is fast and friendly. It's efficient and tasty.

WOW!!! The food was most probably the best that I have experienced lately. I chose the cod bites and chips and saveloy drenched down by a Ben Shaws Cream Soda!!! All spot on, and the price was on point!

Great breading and all dishes are freshly prepared. We recommend.

The food quality was good. There was just three of us, we ordered one large Haddock meal to share, one kids meal and very basic soft drinks. The total came to over £40. Rip off inner London prices. Can get more food, same quality, for just over £20 from my local fish and chip shop in outer London/Kent.

Seriously disappointing. I ordered regular cod with large chips and a curry sauce. The cod was tiny and the chips were lukewarm and hard. The curry sauce was passable. Also, it was overpriced for what I was presented with. Perhaps Poppies have simply become complacent knowing that endless tourists will continue to pour in. But for anyone that loves fish and chips, avoid!

I will be bringing my brother who is visiting from London for the first time in August and first thing he wants to try is fish an chips .recommend this lovely chippie.

Nice little restaurant but way too busy. Don't mind tables being reasonably close together but it felt very cramped. Service was ok but felt a bit rushed, which is a shame as the food was very good. Not sure I'd return to this particular branch but would try another Rosa's in the future.

My husband ordered fish and chips for the kids and I ordered the regular for the adults. It's surprisingly normal and easy. The interior of the store has a 70's retro feel, and the staff's uniforms match the interior, making it feel like you've traveled back in time. I paid in cash rather than cashless, and the staff came to take my order. Everyone was friendly and the store was full of tourists! I think you should try it at least once. Since it's a franchise, I don't know if each store is the same, but it was about a 3 minute walk from Liverpool Street station.

We came here a few years ago and I felt the food and service was much better at that time. This time the fish and chips was ok but most of the food and the service was for sure less than to be desired. Do not more the calamari starter. This was a £7 item and we received exactly 7 small rings. That was not worth it for something that appears to be previously frozen and then fried. As with most things in the UK nothing had any seasoning. Pale people just suck at enjoying food with seasonings and spices. We probably will not choose to go back for a future visit.

Wonderful old-time restaurant went there twice. If you love F & Chips this is the place for you. Recommend warmly.

Good restaurant but very pricey for what it is. We ordered fish and chips for 2 and had a beer each. We paid 60£. The fish and chips were a bit too bland for us. The restaurant is homely and the staff is friendly.

Wonderful atmosphere as if you are in the 60's or 70's. The food is delicious and the service is great too. I recommend it also for take away, it makes a great dinner at home. In the picture is Cod, mushed peas and two Camden beers.

Best fish N chips in the world! Great place

Went to get a regular portion of chips as I wanted a quick evening snack. I already had multiple bags in my hand which both servers behind the til could clearly see. I placed my order and out came the chips in the box. Not the worst chips In the world to be fair. However, I asked for salt and vinegar and the bloke barely put enough salt for the portion I asked for and when he finally found the vinegar he looked at the bottle as if he just discovered a new element in the periodic table. Amazed by the discovery of sarsons malt vinegar, he again failed to put enough on the chips. I was then handed an open box of chips. Both servers then looked equally perplexed when I had to show them how to close the box so that I could carry them away with me, no offer of a bag either which I had to ask for. Poor quality service by untrained teenagers, an establishment best suited for naive tourists. There are much better fish and chip shops.

We were expecting the best fish & chips in London and we were absolutely disappointed. We both ordered the small order of codfish and chips with a very small jar of tartar sauce, a pint and wine. This food was very small and bland tasting. Moreover, the price was a rip off at 57 lbs for two people. We found a much better place 2 days after and were twice as pleased than Poppies, at 37 lbs total, and the portions were far larger, better and delicious.

It's good haddock & ordinary chips(not kids' meal cods, though). Only 2 kinds of 🍺.

Not sure why all these raving reviews about. It is very mediocre at best. I ordered the large haddock. First, they don’t add enough salt to bring flavor out. But I quickly realized that this is the case in most UK restaurants. The crunch and the texture were good. Size wise, even though I ordered the large, it was no different from the medium the guy next to me ordered. Tartar sauce comes in a small container with a small mouth that’s hard to get anything out of. Overall not impressed. Had much better fish and chips in the US. Really surprised as that’s what the UK is known for!

Used to come here regularly years ago for the freshly cooked fish and chips. Sadly I think there must be new owners as there didn’t seem to be much cooking going on then a large Poppies van arrived with a delivery! So disappointing, whoever bought the brand has killed the brand! Overpriced and average food/service. I won’t be coming again.

The best Fish & Chips in London!

This was exactly what we were looking for! We wanted some traditional fish and chips, and so we headed to poppies. Unfortunately, they were out of cod, and so we had the haddock, but it turned out to be delicious anyway. The chips (fries) we're delicious, crispy, and the fish was crispy all around. Two of the kids had the sausages which were actually really really good. We tried the jellied eel, which I'm sure was very well done, but wasn't for us. The salad came with only olive oil so be aware of that. And the calamari came with only 4 pieces and wasn't all that good. If you're looking for traditional, delicious, fish and chips, this is the place but stick with the fish and chips.

Service staff is a bit too neutral or shy. Fish was tasty and juicy, but way too unseasoned for me. No salt especially. I don't want to season everything myself. I'm not the cook. The biggest drawback is definitely the fries. These were somehow too sticky on the inside for me. They didn't feel fresh.

Fish & chips are good, but in the Basque country, we prepare cod much better

Sarsons malt vinegar watered down so much it was like water. Regular size battered cod was a small size. Price was shocking— I know it’s London but £18.95 for cod and chips??? I live in Canterbury which is an expensive town, but you get gorgeous Fish and chips at Marinos fish bar in the city centre for just over £13.00. We were in a hurry and hungry so we stayed but do be warned I think it is preying on tourists who don’t know any better. So disappointed. ☹️

Lovely food and atmosphere. Very busy even at lunchtime and abit pricey for what it is but food was nice.
