We had an absolutely delicious meal here tonight with the family! The pasta was to die for, everyone enjoyed every single thing we had. The service was fantastic, the girls were so lovely! It was super busy and they did an amazing job 😌 Such a great atmosphere here, has to be one of the best I’ve experienced! Already planning to come back with my friend next week!

We had the Ragu and paired it with the fried pizza that was cheesey and garlicky, topped with a tomato sauce. Where do I start? The Ragu was incredible. It was rich and meaty but not too much...I couldnt stop eating it! The pasta was just as amazing and you can tell it is hand made - so I learnt from the owner, hand made that morning. The fried pizza was my favourite part, and I wish I had bought one for myself instead of sharing it, it was that good, and I dont usually like having a side with my pasta. I spent 3 weeks in Italy recently, in Rome, Naples and around the Amalfi coast and did not taste any fried pizza anywhere as tasty as this! It wasnt greasy and was super flavourful and crispy, yet soft at the same time. I will definitely make the effort to go back and eat within the restaurant, rather than just ordering a takeaway.

Myself, my partner and our 8 week old came to Romeo & Juliet after looking at reviews and was in town for the evening. It absolutely did not disappoint. A true family restaurant, run impeccably. They’re extremely friendly, great service and the food is amazing. Having the 8 week old, they realised we could do with a hand and having struck up a relationship offered to take our baby off our hands whilst we ate. Absolutely amazing. Highly recommend this place!

The quality of Italian food served in this restaurant is of the finest I have experienced in the UK. The quality of ingredients is pure. without additives. The freshly made egg pasta is prepared daily. The pizza dough is light, crisp and airy. Aged 2-3 days. The chilli oil is homemade and produced from fresh chillies harvested in Florence, sun dried, ground and paired with Italian extra virgin olive oil. It has quite a punch! Service in this restaurant is fantastic, taking the time to understand dietary requirements of each guest, and in our case serving vegetarians - advising that most of the dishes containing Parmesan can be served without it, as the dishes are made freshly en-demand. The kids even had the option to remove chilli from their dishes. Husband and wife team. The chap is the chef of Cuban decent and who grow up in Italy where he learned his trade. His wife is a. Caring front of house and big people person, who understands the food and how it is Made. Believe me, I quizzed her and took on board lots of tips that will help with my home cooking. We discovered the restaurant will soon be offering pasta making master classes from September 2024. We have of course enrolled our whole family! I’m so excited!

Doubt I will be returning to Romeo & Juliet’s. The waitress was lovely but the food was disappointing and overpriced.

I phoned up to order a takeaway pizza, the restaurant was very busy but the lady that answered the phone was extremely helpful and polite. It was an hour's wait for the pizza, but she was kind enough to phone me 10mins before it was ready so I could head over to collect. The atmosphere in the restaurant seemed very nice, lots of people and the room was buzzing. (That was experienced from me just waiting for my pizza). The pizza was amazing, we have even ordered again a second time, and I'm sure I'll be eating from there again and again. Best pizza in Hailsham! Very authentic in look and flavour, generous with the toppings too which makes all the difference. 100% would recommend, at some point it would be nice to go and eat in the restaurant too and try the pasta.

On holiday in South England and stayed in Hailsham. By surprise we discovered Romeo and Juliet in Hailsham. Terrific good food en very good hospitality. It is really a Masterchef.

Authentic Italian food with home made fresh pasta....

Food-wise one of the best takeaways I've ever had. I had a few starters/sides tapas-style and it was delicious (mini- calzone, orange salad and bruchetta).

Disappointed. Very small portions for quite a lot of money. Bruschetta although tasty was tiny. Calamari rings had lumps of flour in the batter and were rubbery. Pasta dish was good but quite small. Deserts were very bland and I could barely taste the coffee in my tiramisu. Three courses for two was over £100 and we left both still hungry. I thought being an independent restaurant it would have been better. And judging by their reply they can’t take criticism or get their facts right. It was two beers and a gin and tonic. Two starters and some olives.The cottage on the A22 are much more reasonable in price and bigger portions. If you can’t take feedback then you will never improve your business. And just for info I can make pasta already. Yours was fine but I’d be working on your batter recipe and tiramisu.

I visited this restaurant as I was advised by someone I knew in Hailsham on Town Farm (cadbury) that they (the restaurant) had a vacancy as washing up and was offered a beer by Ramses (I drank half because I - and my body - don't benefit from alcohol). The female (mother I believe) who is Cuban who works in the kitchen with a headset on listening to music (which is unsafe in a kitchen in my view and could result in burns amongst other issues) touched my hand inappropriately when I told her I could not work there as a washing up because of my skin condition, also the water was boiling hot and would had burned me. This kind of behaviour could cause psychosis in some people or a violent reaction such as a slap - I dread to think what would had happened if I touched her hand, I don't need to - . I spoke mostly to Ramses and he has an Italian partner. His mother is Cuban and works in the kitchen - it's a family business. Therefore not only have I being inappropriately touched which I find (also the police as I reported it) strange; I believe the reason they charge so much for their cheap food is to subsidise their lifestyle. Other reasons could be there are expensive overheads and in my view a buffet - due to the financial circumstances - would had been better suited (that was the business there before); people need £10/£15 all you cant eat not a couple of bits of pasta for £20. They offer to 'let you watch' Ramses make pasta for £55 with a glass of wine included; for this amount of money I can feed myself for three weeks (I feel sorry for struggling mums), for this amount of money you can buy the equipment yourself and watch videos on YouTube on how to do it; that's why I believe in my view it's not a legitimate business (in my view they rip people off). So that you know my review is 100% true (genuine), let me leave you with my name which is Paolo Curcio (I'm half Italian that's why I was offered this interview); I would advise who replied to think about reviewing your answer in regards to relating to a wrong restaurant because it's incorrect. I hope this business will close as soon as possible before it leads someone to have a nervous breakdown in the kitchen (if bullying is a trend; maybe I was just unlucky because I am classed as vulnerable). An apology online for this behaviour which some may construe as very strange, inappropriate and inconsiderate (she is not a doctor as far as I am aware) would be a good way forward. It appears by looking at other reviews that there is a trend of customer's finding the owners/staff rude and possibly bullish. Do you really want to eat or work there and have an ambulance turn up and section you or be arrested for common assault as the news laws have implemented in this country which relate to abuse of staff for not putting up with it? When entering private property your rights are diminished. Read the menu if you like Italian food, buy books and equipment and do it at home - it will save you a lot of money and costs, prison time, or an injection in your backside. There is only so much stress people can take like the GP surgeries which advise abuse on staff will not be tolerated and they can be rude to you but when you ask for a copy of the recording they don't give it to you or their name. We, unfortunately in this country have less and less rights, that's why I support the dissolution of the Union, de nuclear and peace with Putin based on proportional ethnic representation (at least there in Novorossiya you can get a house without having to declare yourself schizophrenic because in this country there is a housing problems where the rent is too high, people are at the mercy of exploitation by landlords - we must stop this). I'm in the process of taking up matters with the Ombudsman and MP regarding gross misconduct by organisations such as the Council, Police, NHS, etc. - please do not get violent that's what they want to get more powers to also jab your backside (in addition to your arm - covid) - write letters of complaint and keep a record

Friendly family run Italian restaurant. Great food and service.

Authentic and tasty Italian dishes there, it was a pleasure to enjoy the meals there. Family run restaurant, owners are very friendly too.

We were there for the first time and I can tell that Romeo & Juliet is a local treasure where handmade pasta steals the show. From classic favorites to adventurous creations, each dish bursts with flavor and authenticity. The warm hospitality and affordable prices only add to the experience. A must-visit for anyone who wants best and fresh quality food. For sure we will be back. 🙂

The best Italian I've had outside of Italy

Romeo & Juliet restaurant is a dream come true! ❤️ My friends and I stopped by in November and had an incredible evening. The woman who took our orders was extremely kind and helpful, offering our table a newly imported “pink prosecco,” which was absolutely delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal - I had the parmesan and pistachio pasta and loved every bite! I also indulged in the tiramisu for dessert, which proved to be a great decision, because it was the best I’ve had. This restaurant is definitely the hidden gem of Hailsham.

First time at this little gem, but it definitely won't be the last! Great food, lovely staff and really nice setting. Good value too.

I love this restaurant. We have visited many times now and have always had a wonderful experience. The food is unquestionably top quality and freshly made! Great pizza, great handmade pasta (special mention for the Maccheroni Benvolio, which is delicious!) and top meat and fish options. The service is delivered with warmth and a friendly smile and the owners are very personable. Hailsham is lucky to have to have such a superior restaurant on offer, with very reasonable prices. This restaurant offers a truly authentic Italian experience, expertly celebrating Italy and the area of Verona with it's delicious food and it's relaxed atmosphere. I have gladly recommended it to family, friends and would certainly recommend it to anyone else considering trying it. We will be back many times again, for sure.

Wow... I have been to Italy 🇮🇹 at least 10 times.... I had the calzone. Asked the to replace the ricotta with pepperoni. It was one of the best calzone I have ever eaten. Plus, it was very reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

First visit wont be our last. Food was increfible and although only 1 person serving on a busy night really didn't matter. Didn't feel rushed. The only however was an Italian couple arrived and noticably portion sizes were larger than the rest of customers. Many sweets were not available. This was a special occasion thankyou Romeo & Juliet you made it memorable

Pizza ok, pasta ok too, wine ok too, unfortunately everything was just mediocre. For Italy feeling, a little love and or salt is generally missing. Despite homemade pizza and pasta, the tomato sauce comes from a can. A pity.

Saw this Italian restaurant a few weeks back ironically whilst on our way past for dinner at another restaurant.. it was heaving looked buzzy so thought we’d try it thankfully it was a sensible normal and easily remembered name phew so booked online ..what a great place family run and genuinely full blooded Italians being authentic .. all pastas are freshly made in the morning by the chef who at the end of the evening came out to speak to his guests nice touch ..fantastic food escalopes were delish rack of lamb was to die for attention to detail on point hubby loves to drink wine from decent wine glass nice little cocktail menu too it’s the attention to detail for us.. staff were attentive friendly and chatty lovely ambience … best not tell the grandkids about the pizza with Nutella and strawberries for desert ..was also pleasantly surprised to find the bill was £20 cheaper than we’d guessed and £20 cheaper than the restaurant two week’s previously that I didn’t write a review for .. rarely write reviews but we really had a great evening .. Will definitely be going back to Romeo and Juliet’s

Went here with my girlfriend for Valentine's Day/ our anniversary. It was such a great experience, they gave her a complimentary rose and we had a nice window table with a candle. The environment was decorated with balloons and even had live authentic Italian music. The food was superb, the highlight dish was the pistachio and parmesan pasta, which we both had, a unique combination but it worked really well. In addition to the music and decorations, the staff were extremely welcoming and warm, and made for a lovely, romantic environment. They went above and behind, and delivered an unforgettable experience. I'd definitely recommend and I could see us coming back next Valentine's. ❤️

Overview: Lovely staff, lovely atmosphere, slow service and not great veggie options. My partner and I went here for Valentines Day 2023. I had booked at table for 7:30pm using the online booking system. When we arrived, the restaurant was full and they had us down as booked for 8:30pm. Luckily I had my email confirmation. Staff were really good and tables to fit us in. They said the booking system isn’t great, so call rather than book online in future. Having been seated, we were ignored for 25 mins. They were very busy, but we didn’t even get to order drinks. Finally our drinks and food order was taken after 35 mins. Not a great start. We are both veggie. There isn’t a single veggie or vegan starter on the menu. There are 2 veggie pasta options - both are pasta/ linguini in a tomato sauce. Meat eaters get the choice of chicken or bacon etc, but just tomato sauce for veggies. With all the plant based meat alternatives these days, this seems a bit lacking in imagination and effort. We both got a pizza which was lovely. It had roast potatoes on it which sounded really weird, but they were small chunks and very tasty. Can’t fault the pizza at all. We then had to wait a long time to ask for and get the bill. With the slow service, we were there for 2.5 hours - which is a long time considering we had just 1 course. The atmosphere was really nice with live music and pleasant decor. The staff were very friendly. I suspect on a quieter night, the service would be better. I’d just ask the management to consider some better veggie/ vegan options.

first time visiting, the service was soooooo slow! over an hour and a half to get our main!! starters were good, my husband ordered a pasta dish it was solid & gloopy, a mountain of pasta in the middle of his plate, what sauce there was was way too thick.. I orders a pizza which was good other than the mushrooms were a bit slimy think they had been reheated.. We’d heard really good things but sadly won’t be rushing back 🥲

Lovely food. All home-made and genuine. Lovely welcome from the lady in charge who couldn’t do enough to help us. However I am slightly reluctant to go here for a special night out as the decor is very lacking with no Italian atmosphere and bright overhead lighting. Also my pet hate-radio playing loudly in the background with presenters talking and random music including Caribbean reggae . Some tiny adjustments such as tableclothes, candles, soft lighting, large coordinated pictures of Italy and Sinatra type music would really help make it cosy and Italian. I really want this restaurant to succeed as we need good homemade food in the area.

We visited Romeo and Juliet this evening and I couldn’t have been more impressed. Lovely friendly atmosphere. We customised most of our meals at no extra cost. Jugs of water were brought over and replaced without having to ask. The food quality was incredible. Could not fault this beautiful restaurant.

Friendly Owner, nice ambiance and lovely food. They miss out on a fifth star only because our waitress (not the Owner) seemed to be very inexperienced and twice forgot the second half of my order. However, it will be a pleasure to try again!

Great little Bistro in Hailsham High Street. Simple but really well presented menu of freshly prepared meals. Short wine list, all themed around Veneto. Well recommended. Top Tip: Try the fresh pasta, hand made on site.

The delivery was great. The pizza was fantastic. Unfortunately we bought the gnocchi with ‘Parmesan and pistachio’ sauce without realising that it had bacon in it, this was for a vegetarian (and moslem) so that was a complete waste of money. The lasagna was not fresh, notably on the dried up edges and it was lukewarm. It was our first time trying this restaurant.

Had the calamari and the T Bone steak superb service and cooked to perfection

We had a really nice lunch. Comfortably spacious restaurant. The homemade pasta and dessert were excellent. Friendly helpful service to make us instantly welcome. And when they heard we were off to their home town of Verona next week they gave us lots of useful tips that we’re looking forward to trying out. Looking forward to returning here too.

We had a wonderful meal here at Romeo & Juliet's. The food was freshly prepared and delicious and the staff attentive. Lovely surroundings. As a local to Hailsham I'm delighted that we have another high quality family owned restaurant in the town.

Had lovely Romeo and Juliet Calzone. And my partner had the Carlo pizza. Both really good and obviously home made. Attentive waitress and the chef came out to talk to us. Very much recommended.

We went for the a you can eat BBQ. There was so much delicious food. We didn't need any more! Sitting outside was lovely. Staff always super friendly.

Ordered the R+J Calzone and was disappointed, the resteraunts way of preparing this item was by Malone a standard margarita and folding about 20% of it over to make a Calzone pocket. The pizza part was fine tho crusts a little crunchy and not what I though I was ordering, even if it is the resteraunts take on a Calzone

Overall experience was alright, group of 11 for a stag meal, top lady was very attentive but service was slow we waited a long time for our mains and one was wrong which left me with a longer wait. Cheese cake is a glass didn’t work for me but the mains all looked amazing and when I got it my pasta was lovely. Got a few drinks wrong but service was ok def missed a trick by not keeping on top of checking drinks as could have sold the lads a lot more beer.

Can't complain about the delivery, or the restaurant itself, but the food was absolutely dreadful, way too much garlic and the tomato was extremely overpowering, no drink options, wayyy too over priced and we won't be ordering from here again.
