Rock Salt at South Sands Hotel in North Somerset

Lovely meal in a really nice setting. Lots of lovely touches in the restaurant and I always appreciate the homemade dog biscuits ☺️

We were a large group, enjoyed Sunday lunch. Food was very nice, can recommend the Roast Beef and the treacle tart 👍 Service was a little slow. Looks popular with dog walkers.

We stopped by after a walk along the beach today, didn't have a booking but we managed to get in. The hotel and bar are really lovely. Plenty of choice available for me as a vegetarian and for meet eating compadres. I had the mushroom burger, my partner had the cheese and kimchi sandwich and our friends has the pistachio and lemon cake with coffee. All of the food was high quality and delicious They even do omelettes for dogs, which is a nice touch and the lovely staff gave each of our 3 dogs a treat. We love sand bay as a year round dog friendly beach and this gem of a bar is the great place to finish our walks. Thankyou for making us feel welcome. We often find that pubs claim to be 'Dog Friendly', when they are actually just 'Dog Tolerant'. That's not the case here. We will be back soon!!

We had the sharing platter, was amazing for the price too.

The food we had was pretty good. The sausage and mash was great. But that's as positive as the experience got. Seriously lacking in vegetarian options. Service was poor- we got forgotten about for some time before I had to get another waitress to take our order. The 10% service charge isn't justified and very awkward when they bring you the bill.

Well cooked food.. one lovely waitress. The other newbie being shouted out by the by a guy who I assume was the mgr - Ian.. I really hope whoever owns this hotel reviews … but I very much doubt so just in case… however desperate you are for staff hiring someone who thinks it ok to shout at more junior staff like that should not be working there. I would certainly never go back u til I know he’s not there.

Have the absolutely wonderful seafood platter for sharing. Worth every penny

Just had second meal at the Rock Salt really gorgeous Sunday lunch even the red cabbage tasted lovely We have not had a bad meal. The only thing I don't agree is the service charge, I like to be the judge to give a tip

Overall poor meal experience! Poor Menu choice no Specials Board meal quality poor Including presentation along with meagre portion control. Not a cheap restaurant by any means and certainly not one that offers value for money our party of four were not impressed and to top it all a 10 % cover charge is disgusting considering the meal prices and value on offer. Needless to say we will not be dining here again.

Had a delicious take out meal of fish and chips with crushed peas and a generous serving of tartare sauce. This was excellent and the nicest take out fish and chips I've ever eaten. The only downside was that no disposable cutlery or napkins were provided. Fortunately we had just washed our hands but NOT easy or pleasant eating peas and tartare sauce with your hands. PLEASE provide some wooden forks as it would make it so much easier.

Relaxed, beach-themed restaurant with modern interior. Friendly service. Outdoor seating available though we liked sitting inside. Fairly large menu though just a couple of vegetarian options. Lots of beef and fish dishes available. Very nice iced coffee. I’ll forgive them for serving me the miso mushroom burger instead of the orzo and butternut squash, as I enjoyed it. Very strong (and spicy) kale kimchi paired with blue cheese and miso - might not be to everyone’s taste but I liked it. ♿️ Wheelchair accessible entrance though not all the seating areas inside are accessible due to steps. Toilets are modern, spacious and accessible too.

Not sure if we hit a bad time or something? We didn't get acknowledged when arriving and sitting down. it wasn't clear where to order, sit at table or stand at bar? No menus out to view. Breakfast wasn't being served but breakfast rolls were, had to ask for veggie options as only bacon or sausage. No kiddie options. (We had our 2year old with us) We then asked if we could get a drink. Whilst waiting for food we witnessed a staff member snap at a waiting customer. If you can put up standard board menus and signs to show what we can buy/eat and more friendly attentive staff.. this place would be great. It was very confusing as a customer and we saw this was happening for others as they walked in. Very disappointed.

Always dined here when we used our caravan but yesterday was not good in fact poor, dined outside in the sun on a uncleared table flies hovering. We ordered the Seafood sharer but when it arrived we noticed no Pate or Salmon which was stated on the menu and it came with toast which the pate was too go on, eventually a member of staff appeared clearing glasses etc so we asked "doesn't the sharer come with pate" ( forgot about the salmon) "I'll check they said after a while we were told yes but we have run out I can offer you more squid if you like" No apology but had the extra squid Still charged the same amount so if we hadn't asked we would have been even more short changed on the meal. Don't think we will be back as second time not impressed sorry.

The staff were very welcoming, and the food was great. A really nice place to stop off at on our walk up the beach. Really appreciated it being dog friendly too!

Lovely clean restaurant with a wide variety of dishes to choose from. We went for the brisket and the pork sharing platter. Service was fast, food was fresh. Can't wait to come back and try something else.

All good food choices and a deal on cake and coffee for £5.95. The cake and the drink were fab. Dog friendly and great service.

Very busy place hence slow but friendly service. Food is tasty with good portions however it felt quite heavy, not sure why but we all had the same feeling despite ordering very different dishes. Loads of dogs however they have a dog-free zone which was very welcome.

Food was very filling and good overall. The service wasn't fantastic and an automatic tip is applied which isnt great, but overall pretty decent.

Myself and my partner thought we would try a cream tea here on Sunday afternoon. After waiting for a long time to be served, we were finally asked what we would like, only to be met with "I'm sorry I'm just a temp" and then went on to serve someone else. Finally we were served by one of the staff who was rushed off her feet and seemed to be doing everything. We ordered two cream teas and were told that the only tables available are outside. The weather wasn't great but it wasn't raining so we thought fine. The cream tea came, which was a bit odd, we had no milk and no knife to cut the scone. I went back to ask for both. When I got back to my partner, she asked if I liked Earl Grey as thats what we had been given. Ok, not my first choice of tea to have with a cream tea but I won't complain. Then I noticed how runny the 'cream' was, which also tasted of lemon! By this point I had enough and returned the tray and asked for a refund, to be told that the cream teas are served with Earl Grey, however when we checked the menu, this certainly wasn't stated, and the cream was in fact a lemon posset! My partner and I were going to go for an evening meal, but after the complete shambles on a Sunday afternoon, we've decided not to go. With the exception of the 'temp', the staff seemed lovely and were trying their best. If you're not bothered about wanting to eat or drink, but instead want a full on faulty towers experience, or a lemon posset Earl Grey cream tea, then this is definitely the place to go.

Very expensive drinks would not go again

Had a delicious lunch today roast beef with a fine range of veg. Main event battered hake in thatchers cider batter. Absolutely amazing with beef dripping chips and crushed peas . I eat in dozens of hotels and restaurants in my job and this was way above anything I have had before. Tempura came to mind. But whatever a really good dish. Prices reasonable under the current financial crisis.cannot recommend this enough. Plainly and sensibly decorated. Menu is not pretentious just good solid cheffing . Well done all

Love the beach decor, a lovely renovation of a previously old fashioned venue. The chicken burger and buttermilk coating was amazing, one of the best I've had in the UK from even street food vendors. Beef dripping fries were lovely too. Food fresh and hot and dog friendly too.

It was a first time visit here since it has been renovated, and I must say, it looks very nice and up to date. The obvious nautical theme was nice and the reception area where we entered was full of lovely prints and ornaments. We didn't stay in the hotel thus time, but plan to as the did look nice from the photos we had seen. The restaurant and bar were set out with lots of space, great lighting and natural light. There were 3 separate seating areas, including an outside area. My only grumble here was you had to walk around the corner, on the road, to get to the bar entrance. Not an issue for me, but wheelchair users might. The bar and restaurant staff were amazing. Promptly assisted us and informed us of all we needed to know before ordering, including allergies. We were given a menu and made our way to our seats. When ordering food, our request to change the meal slightly was accommodated without fuss. A quick "let me just check with the chef, but I'm sure we can", was followed up with "No problem sir" Outstanding in my eyes. The wait for food was minimal considering how busy the place was. ( I did phone ahead to check availability and was told not to worry about booking ) Our meals were absolutely scrumptious. Cooked to a very high standard and the tastes just filled my pallet. Compliments to the Chef. If you eat here, I wouldn't worry about quality here as I can only imagine that all of the food cooked here would be of the same top class standard. Again, Outstanding.

We have just came home from 3 nights at the South sands hotel it was a wonderful experience the food was amazing in the restraunt, evening meals top quality and the room was perfect for our needs and spotless. I am gluten free most of the menu including delicious breakfast I could have. thank you to all hotel and restraunt staff kind friendly couldn't do enough and can't wait to visit again Megan Chesterfield.

Given 2 stars for the waiter and the food we did enjoy. The ham hock starter was tiny. The pork belly had a very hairy piece of pork scratching on it. My burger was dripping in fluid (not sure if it was from washed lettuce or undrained gerkins) and the cheesy mash side order is soo small for it's cost and taste! The burger meat was good quality and my partner enjoyed his pork belly main meal. I asked to speak to someone about our experience, we waited 15-20 mins before our mash was refunded by the waiter who had asked someone to speak to us but was left to awkwardly deal with us on our own. We begrudgingly paid over £80 for the experience and won't be returning or recommending to others, which is a shame.

A great place to finish or start your beach walk along Sand Bay. Wonderful breakfast and friendly helpful staff.

Arrived a 7pm , there was a lot unavailable on the menu, we ordered the hummus and pitta bread, which I could of taken someone out if thrown, the pittas were that hard . We then ordered the cheeseburger which arrived with chips, no side salad, the burger was burnt and the chips weren't nice at all, also ordered the veggie option which was coconut yoghurt, potatoes and broccoli , it had no flavour at all, wasn't sure what it was meant to be or taste like, like no seasoning The staff were quick and the place was clean but won't be returning unfortunately even tho I was so excited to go ...

Fantastic fish and chips, some of the best I've ever tried, yummy thatchers batter! Would rate 5 out of 5 but there was no diary free or vegan option for the roast which was a tad a disappointing as a couple of us wanted that the other day. Will certainly return but would love to see a vegan roast option like a lovely nut roast!

The food was tastless, the chips were re-cooked. When we complained no apology was given or even acknowledged. I'm told the roasts are good. However I won't be returning.

We had our first dinner during our caravan holiday at Rock Salt. We were grateful for their accommodation of our walk in group of 6. Good portions and an interesting, creative menu featuring a mix of classics with a twist and more adventurous dishes. However some of the dishes were a bit hit and miss with our group. Service was very variable between team members and the blue crockery was a highlight! Probably won't go back on this trip but worth a visit.

Ate here last night, food exceeded by expectations and service was excellent. Thank you, will definitely be back

Have eaten there 3 times in just over a week, wouldn't say the experience was great anytime, but as there are very few places to eat @ Sand Bay gave them a few chances. First time had chicken ceassor salad, the leaves were brown on the edges and my husband's chip had loads of black in them. The second experience was for Sunday lunch, asked for no mash when it was served there was mash on, as I was not at the table when it was served I couldn't send it back as no waitress in sight, daughter in law had muscles and the chips were forgotten. Then the third visit I ordered a white crab meat sandwich on white farmhouse bread. Came out as mixed crabmeat (white & brown), when I pointed out that it should have been white crab meat only the waitress disappeared to check the menu. When she came back I told her the bread was also stale, I was told it was because it was sourdough. The sandwich was changed but still got the sourdough.

One of the best roast beef dinners I've ever eaten. The red wine gravy alone made it. Outdoor seating in the sun + great service. Will be returning.

Amazing food. The Roast Beef, veg parcel and salmon were all outstanding. The sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownies didn’t disappoint to top a wonderful meal. Excellent service. Brilliant value.

We chanced across it when we were on holiday. Lunch was the sharing fish player which was wonderful. The waiting staff were also delightful and helpful to us and our three children and two dogs. Absolutely recommended.

Lovely meal but unfortunately let down by the service. Took over 45 minutes to get our starters once ordered and then we had to wait longer again for our main meal! Had no time to order dessert or coffee ☹️ A shame has once we got our meals they were lovely just took an awful long time to get them!

Oh wow. Once upon a Sunday, there was no dairy free vegetarian roast. The chef who is a rockstar IMHO went out of his way to make the pastry without egg or dairy, in the kitchen, on a really busy Sunday. I cannot tell you the utter joy in being able to join in with everyone at the table and have a Sunday roast. It was an absolutely incredible meal, the staff were lovely. It was a Sunday to remember. Thank you chef, your kindness on that day won’t be forgotten!

I was looking forward to a nice meal as i have heard a lot about the place especialy as its half price early part of the week, the starter was good ,but the steak i ordered was full of fat and was nearly unedable. When i was asked if was my meal ok and i replied no the steak was terrible and the waitress just laughed thinking i was joking, but when she saw that i was serious she just picked the plate up and left, i then asked for the bill and was made to wait 10 mins, so i asked again and the waitress replied she was busy. I eventualy got the bill and there was no apology or nothing hence this review & so because of that i wont be going back. I've never left a review before but tonight was just disapointment beyond far!

Great place.. Will 100% visit again. Local Gem! Food and service was great... Additional a great cocktail menu.
