Robin Hood & Little John in North Hertfordshire

What a lovely surprise. We were just cycling past and discovered this pub randomly. The food was tasty, looking forward to trying some more dishes.

Saturday lunch on the brand new outside patio. Have sandwich and soup for lunch if you want something lighter than the main menu. Friendly staff. Lovely setting.

Sunday lunch today, wow, quite simply faultless. Add the wonderful staff and some gorgeous beers including craft beers - what a great occasion.

Lovely old pub with a great garden. Food was very good but not enough vegetarian options. Service was great and the owners were very friendly. Was a very nice afternoon in the sunny garden, and will definitely be returning.

Fabulous pub with lovely food. Stumbled across it on our travels and look forward to returning. It would be particularly nice on a sunny day but can equally see it charm on a cold winters evening.

Went with a couple of friends for a quick drink , 5 bottles of wine later and some delicious cheese and meat platters it was time to leave .Great kimbo coffee served as well . A lovely location worth a visit.

This is a lovely place. Visited on a Saturday after Knebworth house day. We booked in advance. The place was busy and service was rather slow, but we did not mind. Food was good and I bet it is lovely in the garden on warm days, they advised they are expanding the patio and hopefully set up a garden bar for the summer. We will return.

A pleasant countryside pub, looks like really lovely outside seating for the summer. Inside is cosy and in keeping with its age. Enjoyable pub grub, was driving so can't comment on the alcoholic beverages. Friendly staff.

Highly recommend! We have visited the Robin Hood & Little John on several occasions since being reopened in July 24. They have done a fabulous job at making it a very friendly and welcoming experience, with lots of extra usable space (indoor & out), and great food. We’ve had fabulous Sunday roasts, to evening meals, and they hosted an event for us, which was perfectly executed! Thank you Carly, Niamh, Morgan & Elizabeth

Lovely cosy pub. Log fires and sunlight streaming in through the windows. Clean and attractive interiors and lots of outside seating. Dirty duck fries were delicious.

What a great little pub , you can tell the new landlords really care about bringing the Robin back to glory. Cosy fires ,fresh decor and lovely and clean. We had as a family of a whole array of different items of the menu which were all lovely. We will be returning.

A group of 20 of us all enjoyed a lovely home cooked meal served by efficient and friendly staff. Look forward to going back.

Went for Sunday lunch sad to say the food was not as good as in the past n the place was cold with just a log burner. the Sunday Christmas dinner left a lot to be desired , the brussel sprouts were under cooked, and the roast potatoes also, I like my roast potatoes crispy, the red cabbage and cauliflower were like mush

A wonderful pub that has been taken over by a dedicated local business owner. Now a free house, they have invested in unlocking the beauty & charm of the place in such a delightful way. They have also developed an amazing menu which utilises great local seasonal produce without costing a bomb. It’s in a wonderful setting which means it’s going to be just as lovely in the summer as it is in the winter. An unpretentious British pub with great food and beer, nothing but praise for these guys! Only regret is that it’s too far to be my local

A really nice Country pub, lovely remote setting with no traffic noise and plenty of green space. It's under new management and they have really turned it around and realised its potential. Good food, good choice of beers and a warm welcome.

I love the new ownership, they have kept the old soul of this historic pub whilst also renovating and making it much brighter and more spacious. It's got a lot of heart and a unique personality with a Scottish/Italian twist! Great Scottish meat, delicious lasagne! Service was excellent, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere with new events in the diary to add to the community vibe. I was visiting from Bristol, I wish I had a local like this!

We visited for lunch with friends. A very nice pub with atmosphere. Staff were warm and welcoming and service was good. The food was good and not a bad menu, reasonably priced. There was no drinks menu for the soft drinks on offer or prices for them. The restaurant area is not that big with some large tables in it to get more people in understandably but they are extending it which will make a difference. Personally I would have put the dining area where the bar area is and moved the bar area into the restaurant area. What would have made it a 5 star review, a bigger dining area which they are working on and a proper drinks menu with prices, probably a better menu maybe incorporating more local produce, not sure ham, egg and chips should be there when it’s not that big a menu but what do I know.

Visited on Thursday lunchtime to a warm welcome from Carly the food was amazing service great and it really was a nice pub to eat and the mushroom candle holders were a nice touch 😃

Cracking little country pub, and of course dog friendly. Very pleased to see it reopened and in great hands. The décor inside is super cosy. The garden is completely transformed and looks fab - sunny and plenty of seats for summer, stretch tent and enclosed for the chilly months. Service can be a bit slow but that comes with a new team figuring out things - service is always with a smile and the team are really lovely. Went for a family dinner where I had the lamb shank. Thought it was pricey at £24 but absolutely worth EVERY penny - highly recommend this dish. My brother had the angus beef burger and he said it was "the best pub burger I've had in a very long time". I also had the loaded duck fries one time and they were SO full of flavour. Next visit will hopefully be for a Sunday roast as I've only heard good things... Great wine selection. Nice range of beers and a couple of ciders on offer. No and Low options also available (Luck Saint is one of them). 11/10. Thank you Dave and Fiona, and the awesome kitchen and bar staff <3

It's really great that the Robin Hood and Little John pub has reopened. It's a lovely country pub, well out of nowhere in rural Hertfordshire, but quite easy to get to. The new owners have opened up the garden and made this accessible with a ramp for wheelchairs and buggies. There is plenty of outside seating as well, when the weather is good. The food menu is good, perhaps a little limited, but the food served is excellent. Well worth a visit.

Lovely to see our local back. David and Fiona have done a great job, and after a tricky start things a really looking good. Cosy interior, good food, a really welcoming atmosphere.

Dave and Fiona have made this pub everything we knew it could be. The renovations have made big improvements, the food is excellent and being an independent, means there's always a great selection of beers on tap! Finally, an excellent, local, welcoming, top notch pub serving Rabley Heath/Codicote and Knebworth 😀

We’d been looking forward to visiting as it’s under new management and heard good things. Pub is cute and food was good. However the service is shocking. The waitresses serving food aren’t experienced enough. Waited ages , went to the bar to order food as no one came over and it was quiet. Waited for ages for a drink, and when I went back up you’re just ignored by 4 separate staff busy doing everything else but serving the customer. Wont be rushing back which is ashame.

Small inside but tidy and new furniture. Really nice bar staff. Outside is amazing! They just need to get some blankets.

Called in here for a drink,while walking our dog last weekend. Lovely place,with a large dog friendly garden.

In one word....Exceptional! Beautiful little pub. The standard of food was above normal pub grub and reasonably priced. The staff are extremely welcoming and the selection of drinks is more than ample and well thought out. Clearly the new management have improved and fine tuned this pub to be in my opinion, the best in the area. Went for family roast (beef and pork) which was delicious. Looking forward to coming back soon and trying other items from the menu. Well done Robin hood and Little John 👏

I have not been to this pub for a few years but always enjoyed the location and the food previously so decided to see what it was like under new management I have to say everything was excellent I had the rib eye steak and it was cooked to perfection The presentation of the food and the fact it was hot which is always important to me I cannot fault the food in any way We sat outside and there are plenty of benches and outdoor furniture to sit on The staff were wonderful attentive and friendly I will definitely be back

A really nice addition to the local pubs we visit. Great gardens for summer. Good real ales. Comfortable seating. Newly renovated building. Food a little expensive but good choice on menu. Car park is big with lots of spaces. Only issue is the queues to get served at the bar.

Wonderful evening. Smaller menu but something for all. Crispy duck salad was so good. Server Hugo had so much customer service and was a credit to the pub. Love the new layout outside and in. Well done RHLJ, Michèle

Just had the risotto. Absolutely fantastic!

Called in tonight for the first time for a meal since the new management took over. We will be back as the new team are cheerful and doing their best to look after everyone. The food was exceptional so compliments to the chef. We enjoyed Crispy Duck Salad, plus a Fish Pie 🥧 🐠 which was one of the best I’ve had. The real beer was first class and a new barman now knows how to make a Bloody Mary, which to be fair is not a common thing in 2024. Well done 👏🏽everyone involved from two old / new customers.

Has just reopened and some real effort has been made into creating a lovely beer garden complete with a variety of seating, a large canopy and cute Apple tree drinks van. The service is hit and miss for sure. I waited patiently whilst the familiar faces/ locals got served first regardless of whether they arrived at the bar after you (seems to be a thing around Codicote), then when I finally got to the front and acknowledged I was asked to wait whilst they emptied the glass tray….working in the service industry this kind of thing tends to grate. Anyway I commend the effort and the atmosphere was really pleasant. We will be back and will try the food and hopefully bump up the rating!!

Nice beer. Just reopened, great. Bar service was abysmally slow. I don't think the server had ever seen a bar before. Food was OK, not outstanding but reasonable. However, as the RH & LJ is out of the way, they are going to have to raise their game to keep people going there regularly. Especially in Winter.

You need to book in advance to get a table but we managed to get the last table albeit hard low stools. Food very good. We had prawn sandwiches and tuna jacket potato. Well presented, good size portions and delicious! Would recommend and will be back. Food isn't served on Mons and Tues.

Very disappointed. We told the waitress at the bar that it was our first time visiting the pub and we just wanted a drink. They told us to sit at a table and no one attended to us. 20 minutes later we politely asked if we could drink something and they told us to go to the bar and order. It seemed like we were bothering the waitress. They made us feel very uncomfortable. We won't be back again and the roast beef looked very appetizing.

Nice pub and good quality food not ready for more than two babies. Baby chair wobbly so had to use pram which was challenging in the space.

Wonderful 1st visit, took a lovely walk with the dog there. Very dog friendly and lovely friendly staff, great pub and garden. This will become a regular for us.

Walking in on a Friday evening, we felt like we were unwelcome guests at a private party. We were ignored at the bar and thus left. We often frequent small, local country pubs but would never return to this one. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else that's welcoming.

Good food at reasonable price, but slow service.

I was one of a group of about 20 walkers most of whom had lunch. This was bank holiday Monday and therefore very busy so it was impressive that they accepted the booking. As it turned out all the more so because half the staff were off with covid! Consider this they did extremely well with the service, though inevitably with a bit of a delay. Everyone I was sitting with really enjoyed the food, I certainly enjoyed my "light bite" smoked salmon baguette. Prices are a touch on the high side but not too bad. All in all a lovely place to enjoy a drink and a meal at the end of a lovely walk!

This is 2nd time I've been to this pub for lunch in last few weeks it is a gem in the country absolutely love it. Everyone so friendly and so good with dogs. Food was delicious can highly recommend the Steak Pie best I've ever had not one bit of nasty meat. Would definitely recommend this pub ....we're so sad it's so far away from us but will definitely go back

I attended this pub last weekend. Very disappointing. A table we sat at was not reserved but an elderly staff member kept asking us to move as another ‘regular’ customer usually sits there. I pointed that it was not reserved but she insisted. Needless to say, I won the battle but after that, very poor service. Been in many pubs in the countryside nearby and London who have never discriminated ethnic backgrounds or new customers. This pub is truly behind the times. They need to be more welcoming to new customers. Felt poorly treated!

Excellent Christmas lunch for our party of 26 a couple of weeks ago. Very efficient service and nothing too much trouble. Food was delicious and piping hot, couldn't fault it!

Met my husband here for a drink while he was on a long cycle ride. Cute little pub but lots of outdoor space. Staff were really friendly and they had decorated the inside for Halloween. We didn’t try any of the food but it looked good!

Excellent lunchtime visit on Wednesday 16th June. Food was first rate, beautifully cooked and good value given the quality. Helpful staff and sound Covid security. Thoroughly recommend.

The Sunday lunch is always excellent ...but they could do with making the Dining Room warmer! The draught down the chimney coupled with no room heating made the dining experience less enjoyable.

We keep coming here as the food and ambience are great. Sunday 6th June 2021 we had lunch again. The Sunday Roast was as always the best. My partner and I think it's the best around. Thank you very much Mandy and Will. We will be back very soon.
