Enjoyed a nice breakfast in the lovely setting of the garden centre restaurant. The young servers are very attentive and provide excellent service. My husband had the Scottish breakfast which was huge and well presented. His sausage was a little tough, but everything else was very good. I had a croissant which I found a little bit dry. Coffee was excellent. It's a lovely garden centre to wonder around too.

What is it about portions and cafes & restaurants? How do you feel about this? Are you the type, who will automatically judge a place solely on the amount of food on the plate. I.e, that steak has to be the size of a small cow, or that piece of cake, needs to be something that could qualify as a Munro, with the corresponding documentary on the top 10 of cake Munros inside Scotland's cafes. I tend to be a “wait and see” type of person, as recent forays into cake shops & cafes (particularly the Buttterscotch Cafe in Glasgow's West End), have led me to see that, at times, something smaller than normal can still have quite a punch - both in taste and calories! This leads me to the Loch Lomond Homes & Garden Centre, along the road leading out of Balloch, easterly, which I have frequented several times the last year. The portions of their sweets and cakes are the size of Everest. The corresponding pots of tea, could fill nearby Loch Lomond. And for a cheap & cheerful (and huge) High Tea, you really must experience it. Try if your dare. Recommended.

I had lunch at Roast’s with my partner and her mum and children. The prices were very reasonable, and portion sizes generous. Myself and my partner had chicken enchiladas. The enchiladas were stuffed full of chicken, chillies and creamy sauce. They were served with chips and salad. Delicious. My partner’s mum had soup and a toastie, and thoroughly enjoyed both. The kids had mince and tatties, and chicken in batter. Both very very happy with their choices. Would thoroughly recommend.

First impression was of a genuine welcome from the reception staff. We then enjoyed excellent soup, lentil and minestrone. Next up was the very tasty gingerbread and coffee cake washed down with good tasting coffee. The only reason I haven't given this place a '5' is because it feels a wee bit like a canteen. It has a pleasant outlook over fields but the space needs some warmer coloured decoration and some better attempt to split up the space and make it feel more comfortable. Maybe the addition of some 'ceiling dressing' would help. It is still very worthwhile making a visit and enjoying some good quality food at a reasonable price so can certainly recommend the food and the friendly reception.

have visited this cafe/garden centre a few times over the years. first visit since it became Roast cafe. No cheese scones is always a bad moment, and it was early morning saturday so could somebody make a batch for the day please? It's a cafe that somewhat lacks atmosphere and cosiness but I am unsure why? you have a great view to gaze as you drink/eat but the whole place is very subdued. Biggest issue for me is the scraping of the iron chairs over the tiled floor every time someone moves from a table. Staff were just ok but not much engaged with customers. Best point -the border tart was absolutely delicious, thank you chef, and the rest of the baking looked just as good. nice to get home baking so that would be a positive reason to return.

The food is always very tasty but special mention has to go to the Lentil Soup, which is totally out of this world, or as we now call it amazeballs. I have seen us drive out there just for a plate of the soup. Caters for all age groups and one day I am going to try the enormous meringue with the cream and strawberries as it looks well yummy. Only thing I have noticed is that a lot of elderly people visit the cafe and struggle taking trays of hot drinks etc over to their tables. Can I suggest that if staff can take hot food over to a table why not help those who are elderly or unstable to their table with the tray.

My husband and I regularly visit this garden centre cafe for lunch (or you can have breakfast/brunch and an excellent afternoon tea too). The food is excellent quality, home cooked , and very reasonably priced. The menu is very varied with something for everyone including a range of hot cooked food served with a range of accompaniments and there are great menu deals tailored to the needs of a variety of different types of customers e.g. older people. There are also bagels , sandwiches , baked potatoes ,pasta and crepes all with a great range of both hot and cold fillings. You can opt for salad with everything or chips if you prefer. Our niece who is vegan and very hard to cater for was delighted to find a number of things she could have to eat. The icing on the cake here are the cakes !!! Made on the premises and utterly delicious. You can even take them home. And if lemon meringue pie is your choice , I can testify that there is no finer being served anywhere I have tried anywhere in Britain . In my opinion and as a long time hospitals employee I would have to disagree with the opinion of other reviewer that the food in this cafe no way resembles any hospital canteen I've ever eaten in ! This is 5 star garden centre quality served by a brilliant family team and their staff who can't do enough to ensure the customer's every need is catered for. The word is out now on this hidden gem with hardly a table to spare yesterday. It's very popular locally and if in the area I would definitely recommend this place for the best and most reasonably priced food you will find.

Came here on a busy day for hot lunch with family. On positive side, staff were helpful and the manageress was out helping streamline and organise everything. Cakes looked lovely. There is a play room for toddlers out the back which is reasonably well maintained, though several of the toys' batteries had run out and so on. The cooked food is filling and reasonably cheap, but not that great - a little bit like slightly upmarket hospital canteen food - chips with everything and so on. Macaroni cheese, that kind of idea. Tasty but stodgy.Generally the place looks a wee bit tired (the garden centre in general and the café), and as others have commented could be better heated. We needed to keep our jackets on.I don't think it's possible to book in advance - certainly we were told we couldn't when we phoned. So I would probably come here for a coffee and cakes, for a filling hangover breakfast, or for cheap filling lunch if driving past. But not really for a special family lunch out

I swear I do not have any connection with this establishment - I just love it, and admire what the staff there are doing and the standards they set & keep. The cafe is located in the Loch Lomond Home & Gardens centre on the Stirling road heading out of Balloch. Nestling in a fold of the Lomond Hills, with a splendid view through panoramic windows of steeply banking fields with grazing sheep & cattle, it is the best-kept secret in the area although more people are beginning to discover it daily. In good weather you can also dine al fresco on the terrace. The Centre is family-owned and family run, although not by the same families. Thomas, the General Manager, has a high-level background as food & beverage manager at some of the best 5* hotels in Scotland and England, and he brings an impressive attention to detail to this local gem.I am old enough to take advantage of their current Seniors specials, and today I enjoyed wonderful lentil soup with a home-baked roll, a stunning & beautifully-flavoured plate of mince & tatties made with beef sourced from the best butcher in the area, and tea with home-made scone and jam to finish. At £6.25( yes, £6.25!!!!) it is just about the best value meal I have ever had, anywhere. But even the same meal at full price is not a lot more expensive than that. Lorna, the wife of Thomas, is the award-winning baker of the seductive array of cakes, pastries & scones on offer, and his daughter Emma is the chef who produces an excellent selection of meals & sandwiches.I cannot recommend Roasts highly enough either for lunch or breakfast, or just a quick fresh coffee with for ends. Go. Just go there. It is an absolute treasure of a place, & you won't be disappointed.
