Food normally fantastic. But tonight they messed up. Scampi was cheeseburger was tasteless. Chips not good. It's what you do. Should be perfect every time

The best fish (cod) I have eaten in years. Lovely atmosphere and staff. Could not fault it at all The chips were crispy and fluffy the batter was crisp but moist. This sauces where lovely.And to top it off the pricing is good too. Will dine again!!

If you go in you can book a table, although not online etc. Although the menu wasn't huge the variety was enough for everyone to find something they wanted to eat. The decor was like a mini museum, brilliantly done. Had a good meal here

This chip shop is bussin fr fr. The servers are amazing. The food is lovely i love this chippy with all my heart. The quote on the wall "a day without fish n chips is a day wasted" is so wholesome. Truely an amazing british chippy 10/10

Every time we go to Ripley's the food is delicious. The consistency is incredible and the staff are lovely.

Visited family in the area staying at the Premier Inn, this is just a short drive away. Food was excellent, good kids menu and service was extremely friendly. Definitely a place I'd recommend to families.

The only place me and the family get fish and chips from. The quality of the food and the service from the team at Ripley's is just outstanding. Crispy light battered fish that's just delicious and the chips are always hot and and tasty also! I would also recommend the potato fritters. Thanks Ripleys! This is one of the most expensive fish and chips I have come across. Small mushy peas, gravy etc £1.75 each. The chips and pie were under cooked. If this is the best there is to offer on the town I would hate to have tried the others. Prices in Scarborough and Whitby are cheaper than here

Ordered a take away for certain time. When came to collect it the order was just ready. Food was piping hot when we opened it at home. The portions were huge and the food was just delicious! The staff is always super friendly and caring. It's the best fish and chips in town!

Cod slice chips and mushy peas absolutely top notch. Service particularly good on what was a very busy day.

Brilliant! Was on a short break staying locally to visit family, read good reviews about the place so went in on a Saturday evening with the family. The service is so friendly & food is excellent, the batter was so crispy & light on the fish which was cooked perfectly & very tasty, chunky crispy chips & the mushy peas tasted superb! Great meal deal for the kids which was reasonably priced. Will definitely go again when we are next staying in the area ❤️ 🐟 & 🍟 😋

Disappointed to get home with my 'phone ordered' takeaway and discover there was no side dish of peas in the bag. I also expected more chips for the price. Suggested that I return for them to correct the issue (and let my meal go cold?). The 'fish' was beautiful but very dry without a side dish. Like I said...disappointed for £12.95.

I didn’t sit in so for atmosphere can’t really give 5 but it does look nice to sit in and all ways seams busy so that must be a good sign. Love the food it’s all ways nice and warm when I get home and the chips are so nice. Highly recommended

We went in on Saturday 9th December and both had fish chips and peas with a cup of tea. As my wife is Coeliac, we ordered 1 gluten free version. Great service, comfortable surroundings, friendly staff and excellent food. So great to have quality gluten free food and a restaurant that takes it very seriously to avoid any cross contamination - even providing separate GF vinegar. 10/10.

Chose Ripley's as they do GF Friday and Saturday evenings. A plus is that they have dedicated fryers. It is the best GF Batter I have tasted. Light and crispy. My husband and mum has regular Fish and Chips and said they were delicious too. Shame we live in Dorset, but when visiting family will definitely return.

We had 43 fish and chip meals delivered for a private function. The food arrived on time and was hot and delicious. Fantastic service and great people to deal with. They also catered for gluten free and veggie and everything was clearly labelled. Highly recommend.

Takeaway meal 2 fish, large chips, fishcake 2 mushy 2 curry £28!!! I know prices have gone up but I honestly thought they had only put in one fish when we got home. Nothing like an actual “fish” when we got home more like 3 fish goujons. Looked like each bit was not even half a fish. I did check the order as the server read back my order as 2 fish slices. I checked and he said that’s our regular fish. It is not regular it is tiny !!! fishcake was also the smallest I’ve seen. Looked like a child’s. Never again.

Advertised as open until 8.30 weeknight. Door locked and cleaning up at 8.25. Surely open until 8.30 means for customers to purchase, not to be turning the lights off and going home?

Ok not great and quite expensive

Fish has not been as nice just lately, seems like it's not cooked long enough or its gone like this since they've sourced the fish from elsewhere. ( cheaper so I've been told) Twice now the fish seems chewy so I'm a bit put off. Used to be lovely 😕

Waited ages to be served, then told had got table orders mixed up ,so had to re-order, then waited ages again. Ended up having it as a takeaway as needed to be somewhere.

I really want to say how amazing the staff are in this place they are so supportive and polite This was my first visit with my children the food was amazing the curry sauces wasn’t to runny like other chip shops it was perfect My oldest is autistic and it’s very rare she finishes a meal but from this chip shop she ate everything The chip cob wasn’t a normal cob it was like a flowery posh cob it was quiet big to We will be coming back thank you

Brilliant speedy service, friendly staff and management, and tasty food. The food isn't greasy like it can easily be from a chip shop and the portions are generous. Can be very busy with a queue out of the door for takeaway but it is well worth the wait. Would definitely recommend.

Been here a few times now & it’s great. I’m gluten intolerant & they always go out of their way to do a gluten free cod for me. The fish & the chips are one of the best I have ever had & the staff are lovely.

Lovely food, friendly staff especially the fryer (hope thats correct title). Usually have take away but sat in tonight. Quick service. Wasn't very busy, will always use this chip shop whilst food good and staff are friendly. Used to use Sea Fish bit it has, in my opinion gone right down.

Hostile communication from all staff members, both upon ordering and upon question about wether the buisness has changed hands. Almost no mayonnaise for the chicken burger, no apology just told i could have garli mayo and no sachets to purchase . No lettuce when I got home even though I asked. Smaller portions of chips than normal. Almost given chips with no salt and vinegar even after i asked. Normally its Amazing. Tonight the opposite. Edited may 2023 : recent visits have been very pleasant.

I can't rate the food as we didn't get any. Waitress said that she would be with us in 5 minutes.....20 minutes later we walked out.

My friends and I come this Restaurant every Tuesday evening after a long day hiking in the Peak District . Not once have they failed to exceed our expectations in food quality and hospitality , the waitresses Chaylee and Indi are a friendly and attentive pair considering that they have to put up with us and our friendly banter.

100% the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, everything is always cooked fresh and to the highest standards. Good portion sizes and very fair pricing, beers and wines available too if you’re eating in, which I highly recommend. Staff are incredibly friendly and cannot do enough to help you, I’m not a huge fan of fish and chips but when it’s done right it makes all the difference, if you haven’t been yet get over there and grab a table, you won’t be disappointed

Fantastic service and amazing food

The title says it all. We had a meal in the restaurant and we were greeted in a warm and friendly manner; found a table and order taken. The food was - WOW!! Honestly, the best fish and chips I have had for a very long time! Cooked to perfection, Generous portions and generally wonderful. We left very full, and really happy. Certainly will be back. Food 10*/10 Service 10/10 Cleanliness 10/10 VFM 10/10.

You can see they care and you can witness the effort they go to keeping the food separate and serving it to you and it’s well worth the money! Literally the best fish and chips for miles. We used to go to George’s at woodlinkin, they changed, prices went up and quality went down. Tried the fish shops in belper, rubbish. Tried others locally and cannot find a decent fish shop. We tried Ripleys and the food was exceptional. Very busy when we went but the service was fast and very friendly. Amazing value for money for a family of three. My parents go every week it’s that good! Thanks Ripley’s for supplying excellent fish and chips 👍🏼 can’t wait to come again!
