Could not fault anything. We had two different noodle dishes and both were fantastic. Full of flavour and the quality of the ingredients was great. Not greasy or over spiced. Made us both smile.

Lovely little no frills Thai cafe on Richmond Hill. We came for an evening meal and had 2 beers and shared 3 main dishes between 2 of us (instead of having starters) and there was plenty. We had the beef panang, a bacon and chicken noodle dish and chicken and cashew nuts rice dish. All the food was really tasty but in particular the chicken and cashew nuts was divine!

Whilst walking from Putney to Richmond through Richmond Park, a friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant and were drawn in by the half price sign in the restaurant window. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and it was served surprisingly quickly. The waitress was also very lovely. I will definitely stop by in future when in Richmond.

If you are after great Thai food with friendly service and good value then this place delivers every time. Its not got fancy decor but that doesn’t matter a jot. I’ve been many times and always have a yummy meal. When Richmond is full of chains and some more upscale places it’s a pleasure that this place exists and thrives - it’s always busy. Long may it continue. Cannot recommend it highly enough. It is small so definitely worth booking. Don’t get hung up on the appearance of the place - the food is fab.

This was recommended by friends and being a quiet Sunday night, we were able to get a table easily. We shared fish cakes to start and I ordered Thai green chicken curry and my friend chose sea bass. The starter was fine but mine was the strangest Thai curry I've ever seen, possibly my accent or a misunderstanding but I ate it anyway as I was starving by the time the mains came. No Sauvignon Blanc so I was served a warm glass of Chenin, thankfully by the time I warily ordered a second glass, it was chilled. My friend was ill during the night so I hope it wasn't his fish as I was absolutely fine. Personally, overpriced and overrated.

This was a last minute decision and I really fancied Thai food, not a restaurant you visit for the atmosphere as it’s very simple, but the quality of cooking was excellent and very good value for money. Well worth stopping by for a quick and simple meal made well

I had high hopes given location and exterior curb appeal. Very average to poor Thai food. No real quality in flavours. You can hear the microwave go ping in the background. Slow service. Avoid the dumplings not good at all. Always look busy though which is odd.

This restaurant provides simple but very tasty Thai food. The atmosphere is not exciting but it is the lack off service which is really not good. One waiter is just not enough to serve a full restaurant. Therefore long waiting times and nobody is able to pick up the phone when you want to order the food. However still my favorite Thai in Richmond.

We have been going here for years off and on. It's a very pretty little cafe restaurant serving Thai food at not bad prices. But this was our first visit in about 4 years and it was not good. We have been to Thailand many times and although we weren't expecting traditional Thai food we do know what good Thai tastes like. And this wasn't. My started of deep fried squid was fine. My wife had a Thai salad which was not spicy at all (even though we asked for our food to be Thai spicy). My main was a too salty and not spicy. And the prawns were of the most frozen, cheapest variety. Nasty. The noodles were bland too. It's a shame as we used to come here a lot...

Deberíamos haber hecho clic allí era un problema cuando era tan fácil conseguir una mesa en el exterior. I dined at RC with my parents who had come to visit me. We all love Thai food and looked forward to trying somewhere new. Unfortunately this will be the first and last time we visit here. As soon as we were seated we were rushed into choosing our drinks and told at 9pm we needed to order as the kitchen closed at 10pm. So we ordered our starters and quickly had to order our mains. No new cutlery in between courses which were placed down on the table without rice and no explanation. After the main course we were then asked if it would be ok to pay the bill as the kitchen closed. No dessert.Food was mediocre and both my parents were unwell after the meal. Topped off with rude service, I will not be re-visiting.

So sad as had taken my sister here as I had had two good meals previously. We sat down and first thing we noticed was ant powder all along the floor by the window plus a few dead flies. We ignored and ordered our food. The starter soups were good although Tom Kha gain was quite bland. However, my main course was a disaster. It didn't taste like Panang curry, was completely bland and sweet and luke warm. I had a few mouthfuls but couldn't eat it so explained very nicely what was wrong. The waitress went and told the chef as no manager was present. She told the waitress to tell me that was their taste, didn't comment on the temperature and gave me no option to substitute. I asked to speak to the chef and then went up the stairs to where the chef was standing. She told me she would not talk to me and that I was not allowed up the stairs. End of. Will never go there again.

A great little Thai restaurant. It looks like your average greasy spoon café, but the food is cracking and service comes with a smile. We had dinner last night and all 5 of us enjoyed their food. My starter of lettuce cups with spicy mince was delicious as was my super spicy chicken and prawn stir fry. So i have been there before, and the last time it was good. But last weekend, I went with friends and if she either had a massive hangover or was not born to be a waiter. I asked speaking out loud to friends that i could not decided whether to have the number 1 or 7. As i said number 1, (with my head down looking at the menu), she wrote it down and off she went. When it came, it was really dry and over cooked. I then ordered a pad thai, and then my friends ordered extra noodles. The meals came out at different times, and then we asked for our extra noodles, and she looked confused and pulled out another pad thai that we didnt order. So i started tucking into the second pad thai, and then starting coughing immediately and was having gag reflexes, i started to pull out a womens dark brown long shoulder length hair from my mouth. Was disgusting. Out of respect for this women who must have been having a bad day, i called her over quietly, and explained what happened. After inspecting the hair, they came over and apologized and said they would not charge. Which is all well and good, but we didn't even order it in the first place. I reckon she had it on the side as miss order and she thought she could get rid of it by adding on to ours. I would have paid for it anyway but that hair was terrible. We didnt pay the service charge either and it was a little awkward. But to be honest, she messed up the orders, there was a massive thai womens hair in it. I dont think i would go there again for a while......

We have dined here over the years. It's quite good and then it's bad and we stop going for a while until it cleans up its act.Last weekend (Sunday 29 November) we were one of only three tables in the cafe. There was obviously no manager present. We waited for our main course for over half an hour while the waitress (in her winter coat) lay on the stairs which lead to the kitchen, playing on her phone. She shouted and yelled at the other staff. It sounded like a fish market. I saw someone in the kitchen standing eating a meal. The only noise in the restaurant was from the screaming banshee of a waitress. She strutted about in her coat serving food and yelling at the waiter and the kitchen staff. When we eventually were served I was given THE most disgusting pad thai I've ever seen. The tofu was glistening with oil. I pressed it down with a spoon and the oil oozed out.I was offered another plate but it had taken so long for this one to be made I just picked out the tofu.My husband had red beef curry and he said the beef was tough and tasteless. It was in thin strips and it looked like it had been cooked several times. It was not an experience we'd like to repeat so we won't be back.

I've been lunching here from time to time over the last three years or so. The lunch offering is simple -- a few permutations and combinations of red, green & yellow curries, rice, noodles, stir fries and so on.The service is excellent: friendly and authentically Thai in nature. If you're used to Thai food from the Far East it is marginally under-spiced but delicious never-the-less and suited to the Richmond palate and weather! In any case, who could grumble about a very adequate South Asian one-bowl lunch with Jasmine tea for under ten quid?I'll try the evening offerings soon.

thought a quick thai before seeing a show at the Richmond Theatre would be fine at the Richmond Café (thai) on Richmond Hill. Got a window table which was nice. Décor needs serious attention and updating. One staff member was bordering rude the other was very smiley and polite. Menu was usual Thai offering. Opted for Thai tempura which I had never had before and a chicken and ginger main with side of pain rice. The stater tempura was fried in thick fatty oil and overwhelmed the tiny vegetables inside. So that was disappointing. The main was even worse. The worse Thai I have ever had and I have had hundreds. It was beyond tasteless, it was dreadful bland and chewy. Disaster and really spoilt the night. Never again. You have been warned !

There are lots of chilli varieties. Thai cooking usually uses the smaller bird's eye chilli (green or red) to get that chilli kick. The long cayenne type chillies (bright red) are used for a splash of colour for decoration. As too often in a Thai restaurant in the UK, everything in Richmond Cafe is freshly cooked, piping hot, good quality ingredients but the chillies in the sauce are the pretty red ones - not the tiny spicy ones. We even asked for Thai heat but just got extra cayenne slices, these are basically lacking heat. The 'wok heat' and fragrance of the garlic and lemongrass wasn't too evident either; the dishes were rather bland. This is 'Thai-lite' and doesn't reflect a plate of food that would be served in Thailand. The staff were friendly and the service quick.

It all seems a short on heating so maybe not a place to go to on a winter evening. Altogether a mixed bag. On balance I'd probably give it another try for the food rather than the surroundings.

Really nice and relaxing place. Staff friendly and helpful. Food consistently good and varied - anything from salads to soups, curries and seafood. Great pad thai! Wine list very limited but they have Singha and Tiger beer!

We have eaten here twice. Nice choice of food. Can be spicy. We did order the mix of starter for 2, and yes it was all deep fried, but we enjoyed it. Good food for the price. I agree with previous review that the place doesn't seem to be spotlessly clean (dirty floor around window and frame)

I can't understand all the positive reviews on here. Our starters were taken straight from the freezer and deep fried almost beyond recognition. The sesame toast was one of the most unpleasant things I've ever seen served in a restaurant anywhere in the world. I've never been served anything I wouldn't eat before. The Thai salad was however beautifully presented and very tasty. This was also inedible though due to levels of heat I've only experienced in Thailand. In this case that could be considered our fault for ordering it, but maybe a bit of warning would have been nice.Main courses were pretty good actually but marred by rice that had been cooked for about 5 minutes too long and was therefore just a gelatinous blob. Noodles likewise.Best Thai in the area? Nonsense. Over the bridge is Fat Boys which is in a different league and has a lovely little garden too if the weather's up to it.

If you are looking for no nonsense service, and good Thai food, then this is the place for you...staffed by Thai people you know you're in safe hands the minute you step inside...Food is good, not the most sophisticated, but good uncomplicated Thai food. Would I go back? yes, again, and again and again...ignore anyone who says otherwise, they probably have only been to Thailand in their mind via a Macdonald's Thai burger!!

Such an awful level of service at the Richmond Thai Cafe. We were sat for at least 30 mins before being offered a drink. Staff are inattentive and extremely rude. Food was only average, starter dry and incomplete. I hope the kitchen is cleaner than the restaurant and toilets which are filthy. An embarrassing experience. Please avoid.

Richmond Cafe has brilliant food, lovely service and nice people. Its style is simple Thai- which is amazing!!! I had Pad Thai noodles, egg fried rice and chicken satay. All brilliant. In fact the satay was so good that I had to order seconds. I would say go there at least twice a month for lunch and dinner.

We were on our way to Kew and starving. Thai being our favourite food, we were excited when we stumbled across this little baby. A bit grubby but with a busy local crowd we thought why not? My wife ordered the chicken & prawn mince on a bed of lettuce for starter (she said "it tastes like veggie mince") I thought it tasted more like liver. I ordered spicy chicken wings which when arrived looked like the most peculiar chicken wing I'd ever seen. Gristly and weird which didn't taste like any chicken I'd eaten. . Hmmm. However the mains were great! Wife had the battered thai cod which was amazing. I had a chicken stir fry lots of lovely chilli. Asked for extra Prik nam pla which was great. Ordered a bottle of cava which was very reasonably priced but would have preferred flutes instead of bog standard pound shop wine glasses! Its ok.Toilets a bit rank!!!! A deep clean throughout premises wouldn't go a miss. Felt a bit greasy.

Go at least twice a month for dinner and lunch - brilliant food, lovely service and great value - simple, but Richmond would be worse off without it!

Glad Trip Advisor have added this place, as it's a great find.Went with my friend couole of weeks ago having walked by when it was closed and checked out the menu. The way it looks reminds of some of the little restaurants in Bangkok that we have been to. It doesn't matter that it hasn't been decorated by an interior designer, it's cosy and rustic. Don't be put off.Friendly service, authentic food and good level of spice/heat on request. We ate a few different dishes which were all great, but the green curry was my fav, we would have licked the bowl if we could! The best bit was the price, exceptional value, I can't believe this place is in Richmond, as it certainly does has Richmong price tag.Going again in a few weeks with my boyf (food critic) as have been raving about it. I'm sure he will like it too!

The Richmond cafe can also be called 'cheap Thai'. It delivers great food and great value for money, with smiley Thai waitresses. It may be worth using them as a take away in the winter as it can become Unbearably cold on the ground floor, and the basement is really too drab to eat in.

I lived in Richmond for 3 years, if I did not feel like cooking...this was my place for an easy last minute dinner. The food is very nice and origianl thai, I really like their thim gha gai soup and all the curry. Easy and small place, you wll not find a free spot at 7 pm. Excellent service and great prices for the quality you get. I was going there at least once a week..and now that I left UK...i miss it!

We ate here one evening a couple of months ago and the food was very nice... the place looks a bit shabby but don't let that put you off, it's all really nice - from the service to the ice cold Singha!Well worth a visit if you're in Richmond.

After travelling to their sister restaurant in Hammersmith for 8 years we finally ventured into the greasy-spoon-looking café on Hill Rise in Richmond and haven’t been disappointed since! This place has the best Thai food, the best prices and friendliest waitresses- and it keeps this local going back for more! Portion sizes leave us full and their prices don’t break our wallets. I can’t say enough about this gem. They have a basic drink menu- which gives them more time to concentrate on the cooking(!)- we usually order the starter plate to share and the ‘Richmond Special’ as well as our main dishes- the coconut rice is yummy and the sticky rice is sticky! Everything is made fresh and is as hot- or mild- as you like it. With many local Thai restaurants competing for your hard-earned money- at last, one that gives you an honest price without all the shiny walls!Don’t let the plain-looking décor put you off- it’s just like being home- and when you want to actually eat at home they offer a quick takeaway service (although no delivery yet).

We visited this lovely restaurant after venturing through kew gardens and it was an absolute joy. The food was exquisite, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was warm whilst also fascinating. I would 100% recommend to anyone in the area.

Wow, just wow! the best dumplings I have ever eaten, and I eat a lot of dumplings. The duck was succulent with a crisp coating, the sauce was subtle without being overpowering. Just loved it.

The most delicious Thai restaurant! Every dish we have tried is perfect and nothing compares to it. We have been dreaming about eating here again ever since it closed and are constantly checking to see if it has reopened. Do you have an estimate of when this will be?
