Staff helpfully moved us upstairs as we were seated right under the speaker. However, upstairs didn't feel any better, bad music blaring to the point of being difficult to hold a conversation. They had explained they could not turn it down. My friend had the beer battered fish and chips, at my recommendation. The fish was large, fresh and nicely cooked. I ordered the thai chicken curry. This was absymal - a roundel of rice, which I recognised as pre-cooked packet coriander rice sachet. On this has been poured a dribble of clear green curry flavoured juice, with some green beans on the side. Atop this pinged pile were two chicken fillets in some sort of coating which bore no relation to the rest of the meal, having seemingly just landed there. They were almost impenetrably leathery and flavourless - again, I suspect, pinged from frozen. I can't identify any element of this meal that could have been rightly called a curry. The food here has steadily gone down over the years and, although they are pleasant, it is obvious the staff have checked out. I shall not be returning.

Girls meal out all starters were enjoyable..2 mains weren't as described ..no cheese on the steak salad ..and the 2 skewers were very poor value for the price barely any size...should have come with dirty rice but was like a microwave golden rice with no spices ...not very nice waitress asked and came back with a small tub of sauce and a small pot of a new rice which was a little better.

Bit late in posting, came to the Retreat for a family gathering in June there was around 10 of us. Lois the Waitress is a real assett to the Restaurant. Chatty, friendly and attentive. Most of us had the £10 lunch deal I had the kebab and fries, can't fault it what a fab deal. The cocktails are good to, lovely decor. Thank you Retreat for making are family get together a success 🙌.

After it being a few years since my last visit, this was a related birthday meal with my son's friends. Having booked for 7pm, we were finally taken upstairs to our table @ 7.15 & even though we'd pre-booked our food, didn't start to receive it till 8pm. Drinks flowing (which is how these places make their money), we had our mains by 8.30 & puds eventually, for those who had room. Good food & staff who served us, thank-you. However for the high prices you pay, same old story, a bit of decorating wouldn't go amiss in the seating area & as for the ladies' toilets, lovely peacock on the wall, but serious consideration is needed inside, know you don't go have your meal in there, good job really, as they let the place down. Won't be rushing back, sorry.

Lovely pub, great food. Service could be improved. We had to push back our table by 30 mins as we were running late, which they were fine with, but when we arrived our table wasn't ready so we got drinks at the bar, then we were rushed off the table at the end for another booking a shed to eat dessert in under 5 minutes. The other party hasn't even arrived yet. Apart from that it was great, would definitely go back.

We have been to the retreat on many occasions, so this review reflects from the earlier times pre-2019 until now. The change in the food is the most obvious point of note. You are now served main meals on 'baby' plates. The content of the food is very poor. Tasty as it may be, you find your plate filled with items you are not going to eat. For £22.00 I received two small pieces of chicken, two small pieces of Monk fish, two small king prawns, and the rest were made up of chunks of chorizo and well burnt peppers. My wife's meal was the same. In the past, we have brought family and friends who have all complimented the retreat. But as I have said, this was pre-2019. The value for money now is very poor, and the menus are wipe clean affairs. It's not good for a resteraunt of this standing. The blame lies directly with the management and owners who are trying to claw money back from the Covid days. Unfortunately, you have now lost our business, and we were frequent customers. Arrived home having spent £76.00 for two main meals. Two small wines and two beers. Still hungry. This review is a very honest review from a local couple who are not best pleased not to have the Retreat in our list of local venues anymore.

We booked an outdoor pod for my husband’s 60th birthday to celebrate with friends and family. Beth was so helpful in organising the event and rang on the day offering us the bar instead as it may rain. We decided to stay outside and chose not to have the roof up as we didn’t anticipate rain. We didn’t think it would be so windy and cold though on the August Bank Holiday weekend and ended up moving inside after about an hour anyway. The staff could not have been more helpful all round including the bar staff who made it very easy to order drinks to be put on a tab. The pizzas were delicious. They cut up and served the birthday cake without prior notice. They let us stay after the finish time. All in all a great afternoon and Retreat made it very easy for us. Thank you.

Last came here when it first opened and really enjoyed the atmosphere. This time however it was dead on a Friday night. The menu has shrunk to a “summer menu” and everything had an oriental flavourings to it. Opted for a pizza which was nice but would have preferred something more interesting. Lack of vegan options. Just all a bit drab.

Saturday at 5.30pm Welcome service is great but all goes downhill from the moment you sit down. The service is rubbish. After 15 mins we finally got our drink order in and then the food. It took a long time to both order and be served. There was just the 2 of us. We ordered a garlic bread to share, a starter and burgers. They brought ALL the food to the table at the same time. It was ridiculous and way too much. I sent back the burgers so we could eat our garlic bread & starters first. When the burgers came back they had obviously just been under a hot plate. The buns were hard and roasted and considering it was the restaurant who brought everything to the table at once, and for the price, I would have thought they could’ve at least made some fresh fries. I had to ask for S&P and sauces. Nothing was offered. It was absolutely terrible. I had my very elderly mum with me and went to the Retreat as she doesn’t get out much. I just wanted her to have a nice time. So I just paid and left as I didn’t want her to be hearing any complaints.

The Retreat is very popular. There were many diners. We were sat for over 15 minutes before we were asked about drinks. I felt that was too long but my main complaint would be the very noisy 'music.' I personally felt it was too loud and with a heavy beat. I had trouble trying to converse with another in my party who was sat opposite me. Only a matter of a meter or so, but I had to cup my hand to my ear to hear what was being said. It was my first time and for me my last. Others clearly enjoy yhe Retreat, it just wasn't for me.

The restaurant is beautiful and initially the staff were attentive but then the service seemed to tail off. We were left waiting a while to order, there were no follow up drinks orders. Our mains were okay, but we had to go and find a waiter to ask for the dessert menu as there just didn’t seem anyone to be anyone around. No one ever came back to take the dessert order so we just paid for our mains and left. It’s a shame as everything else was nice just the overall service let it down unfortunately.

This place has gone down hill over the last few years. We were here with friends recently and had a table booked for 6:15, we arrived slightly early so were told to get a drink at the bar while we wait for our table. We were stood at the bar for 15 minutes before we were served and were then told to take a seat and the drinks would be brought over. 10 minutes later we could see the drinks on the side of the bar but no one taking them, the beer got so flat the bar staff whirled straw in it to get the head back!! In the end I got up and collected the drinks myself. It got to 7pm and we had still been seated for our 6:15pm table so again we got up to ask when our table would be ready. 5 minutes later we were then shown to our table 50 minutes after our original booking time. The waitress who took our food order was lovely and the wait for drinks ordered through her didn’t take as long. The starters were fine, non of them blew us away you can get similar standard of starters in some good local pubs. The mains were a let down however, the meat on the kebabs were so dry and chewy we left most of it, the bun for the back and blue burger was not available and the tomahawk steak was overcooked slightly. For a bill that was £170 for 4 people this didn’t hit the spot to be honest. When you are charging that much for an evening meal I at least don’t expect barmen to adding gas back to beers using straws!!!

Modern and stylish dinning. The place was beautifully clean and the shift was well managed. The staff really are a credit to the restaurant, polite, professional and rock solid customer service standards. We opted for a selection of starters from the menu, which has both traditional and more modern options. The food was delicious, the chefs light handed approach allowed even the heavier dishes like pork belly swirls to feel lite and summery. Our recommendations are the tempura vegetables and the Korean wings. We’re looking forward to Our next visit.

Beautiful venue. Went with family for a birthday meal. Table was booked for 7.30, when we got there our table wasn't ready. We ordered drinks at the bar, the staff were apologetic and we were shown to our table at 8pm. Whist waiting for food we had to go and find staff to take our drink order as we were sat upstairs. Starters were okay, there was delay in getting our mains. 2 ordered sirloin, asked for medium well but had to send back as they were rare to medium at best. The fillet we ardered was dry. The peppercorn sauce was more like a gravy. 3 ordered salt and pepper ribs but they were pretty tasteless. The chips were lukewarm, so not much got eaten. We also compliance about a dirty glass. All in all pretty disappointed and £233 was not value for money.

We booked a table to eat here on NYE. We arrived a bit early so we were asked to wait by the bar because our table wasn’t ready yet. We thought “fair enough” and got drinks at the bar. There was no real waiting area to speak of so we just felt awkward and in people’s way. Our table wasn’t ready for about another 15 minutes after the time we booked and we had to ask for an update on it to get seated. We had to wait quite a while to order our food and drinks and then by the time our food arrived we had been there for an hour. It’s a very good job we got drinks before being seated because our drinks didn’t arrive until after I had finished my meal. We were told our drink order got lost so we had to order them again, then we got two of the same drinks each brought to the table. The staff member (unknowingly, to be fair) spilled a bit of one of the cocktails on my partner’s last pizza slice. We did get the second drinks for free at least. The drinks were nice and the food was alright, we both had pizza and it was fairly tasty, just nothing that special. I might have enjoyed it more if the service was a bit better. I understand it was a busy time and I’m not usually one to complain about service but it was quite bad and my partner had to keep chasing staff members up for updates. It made the meal out a little bit awkward and disappointing. The decor was nice and I had been told by a few people that this place is good so I have to admit I felt let down. I initially intended to stay for dessert or another drink but to be honest we wanted to leave and go elsewhere

The Christmas Day lunch was a very disappointing. The starter was very good but, the main meals were very hit & miss we also had to wait almost an hour between the starter being served & the main meal. When it eventually arrived the veg was undercooked my Turkey was dry, my Granddaughter's potatoes were bruised in parts. My daughter asked at least 3 times for her dessert, it eventually arrived & then they had the temerity to ask us to vacate the tables. This I might add is a very unusual as previously always had very good meals at The Retreat.

We had arranged a family Christmas meal at Retreat as this was the only opportunity we would have to get all of us together before Christmas. I had never been there before, but thought it was worth a try. Based on this experience, I won't ever return. When we arrived, we were waiting to make a drinks order, however nobody came to the table to take it, in fact, there were no staff in sight. As a result, we ended up going to the bar to be served. While we were stood at the bar ordering there were two young lads behind the bar serving and they were just plain rude. When we returned to the table, it took 30 minutes to receive the starters, as the restaurant was empty apart from us, this was unacceptable. It then took them 20 minutes after the starters had been finished to clear the dishes and a further 30 minutes for us to receive the main. The mains were small with undercooked vegetables, not particularly impressive. Finally, it took 45 minutes after the mains were cleared to receive the desserts. The service was slow and the staff were completely ignorant. We spent more time waiting for service than actually eating, we even had to chase up our own bill. The only positive was that the desserts weren't too bad (hence the 2 star rating).

Lovely setting but the festive food was very under par. The vegetables were so hard none of us eight in all could even cut into them, Brussels, parsnip and potatoes were very under cooked. We did mention this and we were brought some more 20 minutes after receiving our meal so we had eaten what we could of the meal. No apology or deduction in the bill. Hope they get it right tomorrow Christmas Day as I certainly would not be happy paying for a Christmas dinner of that standard.

A disappointing experience during our recent family visit with a party of 8. Unfortunately, our evening was marred by a significant oversight: our daughter's meal, requested to arrive with our starters, but it was forgotten. It arrived 1.5 hours after ordering, post-mains, due to an initial error from the kitchen order. When it did arrive at 9.10pm she was too tired to eat it. The Christmas menu dishes were served lukewarm and under par, falling below the usual standard we've come to expect as regulars. Despite acceptable service, there's certainly room for improvement in both food quality and the overall experience, especially when the bill is just shy of £400!. The gesture of removing the children’s' meal and offering a bottle of Prosecco was appreciated, yet it would have been preferable to receive the standard of service and food that has kept us returning in the past. Unfortunately, this experience leaves doubt about our future visits. There are much nicer places to visit locally, for similar cost.

Only my second visit and my initial delight in getting a last minute table for lunch quickly disappeared after the waiter dropped on the floor the half of my garlic bread I had saved to take home for my tea. He apologised but made no offer of replacement food or a free drink (which is normal in my experience). I chose a main course from the lunch menu and the portion size was VERY small. All our food took a long time to come, which I understood at first as the restaurant was full when we arrived but by the time we had eaten our main course hardly anyone was left. We waited a very long time for someone to come to ask for our dessert order - even hanging over the balcony didn't attract any attention ! By the time someone came, my chosen dessert had sold out so I left feeling as hungry as when I arrived. At no point did anyone ask if everything was OK, so no chance for me to feed back or for them to make amends.

Visited for lunch, very impressed when first entering this converted church, really stylish. Food and staff were excellent and the price was reasonable too for the standard off food presented. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Had a visit with friends today for lunch. My starter came very cold like it had just been sat there but I thought I’d let that slide and see how the main course was ( I was looking forward to this as I never usually have ribs) Unfortunately 2 meals out of 4 adult meals weren’t edible in my opinion (the meat anyways which we both left, full of fat & full of thick heavy old grease that’s all I can explain the taste like) never before had a bad meal here but this has really put me off. The deal of 2 courses for 12.50 has really been compromised by the quality of the food which is such a shame

The Place looks amazing. We sat upstairs on table for two near the balcony. There was 2 Light bulbs dangling at eye level on every table they blinding. Needs raising about 16 inches so you can see the person opposite you. Service started off well but half way through there was no one around to serve for more drinks had to go downs stairs twice to get drinks and give up in the end and left. aslo had to pay on the way out as no around to get the bill . It was also about 30% full not really busy. food was pricey good quality but also more like pub food options.

We dined outside in one of the tents but the seats were wet. We waited 50 minutes for desserts and when mine arrived the waffle was cold and the ice cream came 5 minutes later.

Nice staff and nice atmosphere and nice food if you don’t mind adult prices for kids size portions. Simply for that I wouldn’t come again

Fabulous refurbishment of an old church with stylish decor & comfortable seating indoors & outside. Casual dining & cocktails, our leisurely lunch was very tasty. Special mention to the lovely Lois, our friendly, smiley & attentive waitress. Thank you xx

First time having breakfast here. Had the large breakfast and it didn’t disappoint. Everything perfectly cooked and presented. Smiley, pleasant staff too. Highly recommend and I will be back.

Paul is undoubtedly the pie king of Chorley, offering excellent pies that you won't regret trying. The friendly staff, as always, adds to the overall experience. I highly recommend this place over Greggs.
