A very upmarket dinning experience with excellent food and a great choice of menue for small or larger party dinning. Service is always very professional and they make you feel that you have dinned somewhere special.

Came here as a recommendation from family, lovely food, staff are very friendly and quick service, we came around 5.30pm and it was not overly busy. Prompt service and great atmosphere.

Last came here when it first opened and really enjoyed the atmosphere. This time however it was dead on a Friday night. The menu has shrunk to a “summer menu” and everything had an oriental flavourings to it. Opted for a pizza which was nice but would have preferred something more interesting. Lack of vegan options. Just all a bit drab.

Saturday at 5.30pm Welcome service is great but all goes downhill from the moment you sit down. The service is rubbish. After 15 mins we finally got our drink order in and then the food. It took a long time to both order and be served. There was just the 2 of us. We ordered a garlic bread to share, a starter and burgers. They brought ALL the food to the table at the same time. It was ridiculous and way too much. I sent back the burgers so we could eat our garlic bread & starters first. When the burgers came back they had obviously just been under a hot plate. The buns were hard and roasted and considering it was the restaurant who brought everything to the table at once, and for the price, I would have thought they could’ve at least made some fresh fries. I had to ask for S&P and sauces. Nothing was offered. It was absolutely terrible. I had my very elderly mum with me and went to the Retreat as she doesn’t get out much. I just wanted her to have a nice time. So I just paid and left as I didn’t want her to be hearing any complaints.

Of all the branches I've eaten at.. This was the worst. The service was so bad.. However the food was excellent. Despite the bad service we gave a 10% tip for the young lad.. He didn't even say thank you.. Very ungrateful. It was my birthday dinner, but the bad service spoilt my night. Staff were not friendly, or warm at all. Will not be going back to this branch. Never experienced such bad service.

Fantastic place to have lunch or an evening meal with family. Courteous staff and pleasant. The biggest issue for myself was that they have stopped serving Pheasant plucker etc ales... But that's just a personal opinion! 😋

It was a very special birthday for me. My daughter and her boyfriend took me and my husband. We had a lovely meal, the staff were very friendly and attentive. We highly recommend.

Called in for an early tea (4pm) wasn't very busy which suited us. Was able to have one of the light meals which was delicious and didn't have to wait too long for it to be served. Staff very helpful and friendly and the meal wasn't over priced. Will be going again.

Fantastic selection of gluten-free food. The fish and chips were amazing! Will definitely be going back for more.

The Retreat is very popular. There were many diners. We were sat for over 15 minutes before we were asked about drinks. I felt that was too long but my main complaint would be the very noisy 'music.' I personally felt it was too loud and with a heavy beat. I had trouble trying to converse with another in my party who was sat opposite me. Only a matter of a meter or so, but I had to cup my hand to my ear to hear what was being said. It was my first time and for me my last. Others clearly enjoy yhe Retreat, it just wasn't for me.

The restaurant is beautiful and initially the staff were attentive but then the service seemed to tail off. We were left waiting a while to order, there were no follow up drinks orders. Our mains were okay, but we had to go and find a waiter to ask for the dessert menu as there just didn’t seem anyone to be anyone around. No one ever came back to take the dessert order so we just paid for our mains and left. It’s a shame as everything else was nice just the overall service let it down unfortunately.

4 meals out of 7 where sent back not good.

The food was lovely and they managed to tweak the menu to accommodate my food intolerances. I would recommend double checking that the meal is as described as on the menu for GF and Vegan as I came across a few mistakes/depends what is delivers that week. The food is a little expensive for what it is!

Our waitress was lovely, shame I didn't get her name

This place has gone down hill over the last few years. We were here with friends recently and had a table booked for 6:15, we arrived slightly early so were told to get a drink at the bar while we wait for our table. We were stood at the bar for 15 minutes before we were served and were then told to take a seat and the drinks would be brought over. 10 minutes later we could see the drinks on the side of the bar but no one taking them, the beer got so flat the bar staff whirled straw in it to get the head back!! In the end I got up and collected the drinks myself. It got to 7pm and we had still been seated for our 6:15pm table so again we got up to ask when our table would be ready. 5 minutes later we were then shown to our table 50 minutes after our original booking time. The waitress who took our food order was lovely and the wait for drinks ordered through her didn’t take as long. The starters were fine, non of them blew us away you can get similar standard of starters in some good local pubs. The mains were a let down however, the meat on the kebabs were so dry and chewy we left most of it, the bun for the back and blue burger was not available and the tomahawk steak was overcooked slightly. For a bill that was £170 for 4 people this didn’t hit the spot to be honest. When you are charging that much for an evening meal I at least don’t expect barmen to adding gas back to beers using straws!!!

Came in here on Valentine's Day with my partner for lunch. Staff were friendly and the lady who took our order pointed out to us the lunch deal which we both decided to choose I had the seabass and my partner had a burger. Our food was very nice and we were both happy with the £10 lunch deal for food and a drink

So, so slow when it comes to service. Been multiple times and it's always painfully slow. Food is decent but honestly probably don't return now as sick of having to wait 1+ hours just to get a main.

Had a lovely 2 course Sunday dinner , the staff was brilliant especially a young girl with blond hair who had to deal with a difficult couple that was sat at side of us , moaning over a bowl of mushrooms, the woman was rude towards the staff but didn't moan about the complimentary drinks they was given , we will definitely come back soon

Took my daughter for her 18th birthday. Service was dire, slow to take orders, very slow to bring food, only asked once for drinks order, staff all over the place. Had to ask them to bring cake out, no plates or knife and they didnt even say happy birthday to her. Very disappointed. She had ro leave before desserts were served. They took 40 mins!

Modern and stylish dinning. The place was beautifully clean and the shift was well managed. The staff really are a credit to the restaurant, polite, professional and rock solid customer service standards. We opted for a selection of starters from the menu, which has both traditional and more modern options. The food was delicious, the chefs light handed approach allowed even the heavier dishes like pork belly swirls to feel lite and summery. Our recommendations are the tempura vegetables and the Korean wings. We’re looking forward to Our next visit.

I was extremely disappointed, the service was slow, I was told my menu choice wasn't available after ordering it then was told it was available but last portion, i would say half of our party of 7 adults 2 children enjoyed their meal half didn't but all agreed poor value portion sizes for £20 meals, picture of tagine example, also was having difficulty swallowing and ended up having a coughing fit, I went to the bar and said could ipleaee have glass of water as wife coughing / choking fit and he said bring one over..5 mins later it arrived with my wife now in the toilet ..knocked of my list for now..

Beautiful venue. Went with family for a birthday meal. Table was booked for 7.30, when we got there our table wasn't ready. We ordered drinks at the bar, the staff were apologetic and we were shown to our table at 8pm. Whist waiting for food we had to go and find staff to take our drink order as we were sat upstairs. Starters were okay, there was delay in getting our mains. 2 ordered sirloin, asked for medium well but had to send back as they were rare to medium at best. The fillet we ardered was dry. The peppercorn sauce was more like a gravy. 3 ordered salt and pepper ribs but they were pretty tasteless. The chips were lukewarm, so not much got eaten. We also compliance about a dirty glass. All in all pretty disappointed and £233 was not value for money.

We booked a table to eat here on NYE. We arrived a bit early so we were asked to wait by the bar because our table wasn’t ready yet. We thought “fair enough” and got drinks at the bar. There was no real waiting area to speak of so we just felt awkward and in people’s way. Our table wasn’t ready for about another 15 minutes after the time we booked and we had to ask for an update on it to get seated. We had to wait quite a while to order our food and drinks and then by the time our food arrived we had been there for an hour. It’s a very good job we got drinks before being seated because our drinks didn’t arrive until after I had finished my meal. We were told our drink order got lost so we had to order them again, then we got two of the same drinks each brought to the table. The staff member (unknowingly, to be fair) spilled a bit of one of the cocktails on my partner’s last pizza slice. We did get the second drinks for free at least. The drinks were nice and the food was alright, we both had pizza and it was fairly tasty, just nothing that special. I might have enjoyed it more if the service was a bit better. I understand it was a busy time and I’m not usually one to complain about service but it was quite bad and my partner had to keep chasing staff members up for updates. It made the meal out a little bit awkward and disappointing. The decor was nice and I had been told by a few people that this place is good so I have to admit I felt let down. I initially intended to stay for dessert or another drink but to be honest we wanted to leave and go elsewhere

The Christmas Day lunch was a very disappointing. The starter was very good but, the main meals were very hit & miss we also had to wait almost an hour between the starter being served & the main meal. When it eventually arrived the veg was undercooked my Turkey was dry, my Granddaughter's potatoes were bruised in parts. My daughter asked at least 3 times for her dessert, it eventually arrived & then they had the temerity to ask us to vacate the tables. This I might add is a very unusual as previously always had very good meals at The Retreat.

I came for a new year's eve dinner with family, it was busy obviously but very much under staffed. We had to wait a long time like 15 mins for a table we booked and another 20 mins to receive menus. A lot of the food was overly spicy for everyone at the table, in addition my main course (bbq ribs large plates) was very bland and when compared to my partners order of ribs was very different. Not sure about returning considering the overall experience.

Food ok although ribs a little dry. Not a fan of the beans Service slow as staff chatting a lot. Table not checked, never asked if I wanted another drink Emmerdale on the tv is not conducive to creating a positive atmosphere.

I was disappointed with the Christmas meal we had at the Retreat. It was look warm. Small amount of turkey. Roast potatoes not roasted properly veg seemed raw. Child’s meal was forgotten.Had to ask where it was when we were half way through our main course! then had to wait longer for it to arrive. . One person’s Cheese and biscuits was removed before they had finished. We have enjoyed meals here before and been very pleased.Also Christmas dinner last year. Perhaps to much for the staff to cope with at such a busy time. I won’t be going next Christmas.

We had arranged a family Christmas meal at Retreat as this was the only opportunity we would have to get all of us together before Christmas. I had never been there before, but thought it was worth a try. Based on this experience, I won't ever return. When we arrived, we were waiting to make a drinks order, however nobody came to the table to take it, in fact, there were no staff in sight. As a result, we ended up going to the bar to be served. While we were stood at the bar ordering there were two young lads behind the bar serving and they were just plain rude. When we returned to the table, it took 30 minutes to receive the starters, as the restaurant was empty apart from us, this was unacceptable. It then took them 20 minutes after the starters had been finished to clear the dishes and a further 30 minutes for us to receive the main. The mains were small with undercooked vegetables, not particularly impressive. Finally, it took 45 minutes after the mains were cleared to receive the desserts. The service was slow and the staff were completely ignorant. We spent more time waiting for service than actually eating, we even had to chase up our own bill. The only positive was that the desserts weren't too bad (hence the 2 star rating).

Lovely setting but the festive food was very under par. The vegetables were so hard none of us eight in all could even cut into them, Brussels, parsnip and potatoes were very under cooked. We did mention this and we were brought some more 20 minutes after receiving our meal so we had eaten what we could of the meal. No apology or deduction in the bill. Hope they get it right tomorrow Christmas Day as I certainly would not be happy paying for a Christmas dinner of that standard.

Had our Annual Christmas WI meal at Retreat on Tuesday. Sadly the food was dreadful, the service was poor, no drinks were offered. We were put on a large table upstairs and forgotten about. It wasn’t busy.I was shocked. Won’t be in a hurry to go back!

The Christmas menu dishes were served lukewarm and under par, falling below the usual standard we've come to expect as regulars. Despite acceptable service, there's certainly room for improvement in both food quality and the overall experience, especially when the bill is just shy of £400!. The gesture of removing the children’s' meal and offering a bottle of Prosecco was appreciated, yet it would have been preferable to receive the standard of service and food that has kept us returning in the past. Unfortunately, this experience leaves doubt about our future visits. There are much nicer places to visit locally, for similar cost.

Only my second visit and my initial delight in getting a last minute table for lunch quickly disappeared after the waiter dropped on the floor the half of my garlic bread I had saved to take home for my tea. He apologised but made no offer of replacement food or a free drink (which is normal in my experience). I chose a main course from the lunch menu and the portion size was VERY small. All our food took a long time to come, which I understood at first as the restaurant was full when we arrived but by the time we had eaten our main course hardly anyone was left. We waited a very long time for someone to come to ask for our dessert order - even hanging over the balcony didn't attract any attention ! By the time someone came, my chosen dessert had sold out so I left feeling as hungry as when I arrived. At no point did anyone ask if everything was OK, so no chance for me to feed back or for them to make amends.

Amazing food and the staff are always frendly only thing is the light bulbs upstairs are too low and can some times get in the way.All in all would recomend.Lovely little place :) :) :) :) :) :)

Had a visit with friends today for lunch. My starter came very cold like it had just been sat there but I thought I’d let that slide and see how the main course was ( I was looking forward to this as I never usually have ribs) Unfortunately 2 meals out of 4 adult meals weren’t edible in my opinion (the meat anyways which we both left, full of fat & full of thick heavy old grease that’s all I can explain the taste like) never before had a bad meal here but this has really put me off. The deal of 2 courses for 12.50 has really been compromised by the quality of the food which is such a shame

The Place looks amazing. We sat upstairs on table for two near the balcony. There was 2 Light bulbs dangling at eye level on every table they blinding. Needs raising about 16 inches so you can see the person opposite you. Service started off well but half way through there was no one around to serve for more drinks had to go downs stairs twice to get drinks and give up in the end and left. aslo had to pay on the way out as no around to get the bill . It was also about 30% full not really busy. food was pricey good quality but also more like pub food options.

The food was amazing, and not too expensive either. Drinks and selection was very good. Service was fast and everything was as expected.

We were there to celebrate a birthday and they couldn't do enough for us. The food was lovely and there was plenty of it. Will definitely be back.

We dined outside in one of the tents but the seats were wet. We waited 50 minutes for desserts and when mine arrived the waffle was cold and the ice cream came 5 minutes later.

Nice staff and nice atmosphere and nice food if you don’t mind adult prices for kids size portions. Simply for that I wouldn’t come again

Fabulous refurbishment of an old church with stylish decor & comfortable seating indoors & outside. Casual dining & cocktails, our leisurely lunch was very tasty. Special mention to the lovely Lois, our friendly, smiley & attentive waitress. Thank you xx

Our waitress Lois was attentive, friendly, smart, humorous, 80 yrs old(!) and more efficient than some 20yr old restaurant staff I've come across!! Tasteful decor throughout....love the giant peacock in the loo!

I went to retreat as a surprise meal for my 18th birthday. The staff made my day perfect, from decorating the outside booth to bringing out my cake, I was served by Joe, he was very personable and polite, thank you for a great birthday meal🩷

Had a lovely lunch. The seabass was delicious and can also recommend the treacle tart with ice cream. Atmosphere was very pleasant. Music wasn't too loud as it can be sometimes in the evenings. The staff were very friendly. One of my favourite restaurants in the area.

Visited for lunch 4th September. The lady serving us was great, very helpful, polite & friendly, so good to be served by someone with such a pleasant nature. Enjoyed skewers & caprese salad. Both beef teriyaki & chilli prawn skewers were good, skin on fries best I’ve had in a while. The decor is lovely too. A very enjoyable lunch & we will definitely return soon Thankyou

We absolutely love this place, have. had several memorable meals here including a brilliant Christmas lunch not long after it opened. Good disabled access and dog friendly. Food always good and the friendly staff will go out of their way to accommodate any special requests even to the extent of providing a candle adorned cup cake in lieu of a birthday cake on one occasion!

Great restaurant with a buzzy atmosphere. The service was fantastic as was the food and the drinks. Sharalyn was superb at looking after our group, having a great sense of humour and making sure that everyone had a fantastic experience. Would definitely recommend visiting.

This was a last minute decision to come here on a bank holiday and were very lucky to get in short notice. We have been here twice now and on both occasions had a lovely meal. I had the sea bass and my husband the fish and chips, both from the lunch menu. A glass of wine each and then he had the lemon meringue and we both had a lovely coffee, There was a few thing on the menu that I would have enjoyed so we will definitely return. Very pleasant staff and amazing surroundings, very modern and stylish. The only draw back is we have a forty minute drive from our house but it is worth it !!

Disappointing Visit to the Retreat. We have been here loads in the past few years and have always had a great time, but sadly not tonight. We waited an hour for our food to be served, of which two meals were not great at all. One meal came 20 minutes into our visit which we sent back as we hadn’t ordered it to come as a starter? Very strange. One curry with a burnt Naan, one pizza without cheese, and a rock hard base and a £17 pie which wouldn’t fill a toddler. A couple of meals were lovely, however most not to the price, which wow! Compared to previous visits it’s a lot lot more expensive, sadly we will not be returning.

The food is good. Service could have been better. Drinks didn't exactly flow quite a long wait between drinks. Beautiful surroundings. Lovely outside dining area if the weather is good.

My daughter and I had lunch to celebrate her birthday. Location great, beautiful building, plenty of car parking spaces. We were shown to our table promptly. We ordered our drinks (eventually), twice they missed my soda water but it was delivered after a prompt. I ordered a gluten free pizza and halloumi bites, my daughter the steak sandwich and garlic bread. The food was delicious, could maybe have been a little hotter but the American Hot pizza was delicious. It seemed to take ages for us to attract someone’s attention to pay the bill, however it wouldn’t put me off eating again, throughly enjoyed it

Visited on a Saturday evening, a group of five of us, first the positives....... Very beautiful setting, lovely area both upstairs and downstairs, nicely decorated and comfortable seating. Good choice on the menu, although less so for the two vegetarian guests. Great choice of drinks and cocktails. Staff were friendly and helpful. Now the not so good and why I've given 3 stars ......... Had to wait absolutely ages for our drinks, restaurant was not overly busy, and staff seemed to be standing around chatting. Food was nicely presented, but the ribs I ordered had alot of small grisly bits in the meat, which I had to keep pulling out my mouth, I've had ribs many times and not had this issue before. Waiting times between courses were verging on being way too long. We sat upstairs, and although outside temperature was around 18°c it was uncomfortably warm, which all of our party agreed on. Had we realised this straight away we probably would have asked to move downstairs which seemed cooler. Over all good, but improvements needed.

Went for a quick lunch midweek. Really nice place inside, good table layout. Service was prompt and the food was excellent. Really good menu choices. Highly recommend the salt and pepper broccoli as a side 😋. Prices are very reasonable. Will definitely go again.

A few of us were visiting bars in the areas so this was an obvious choice. We’ve been there many times over the years and always had a great time and that was certainly the case again this time. As a converted church, the building is very impressive indeed. Also impressive, is the fact that it has been developed in an excellent way and has a real touch of class. Sitting inside is lovely, but this was a really sunny summer afternoon so we took a table outside. This proved a great idea and we had a really good time there.

I have visited three times now. The first time was lovely me and my partner really enjoyed it then we went for a 21st birthday and there was 10 of us and the food was not nice at all the steak was so fatty we couldn’t eat it and over cooked but the chips under cooked ? We though this was because there was so many of us. when we visited on Sunday for Father’s Day it wasn’t particularly busy and we didn’t have a table check at all we had to wait a while to get a member of staffs attention. The steak was the same nothing has changed and the burger was disgusting I informed a member of staff and nothing was done. We will not be returning!

Really amazing setting, lovely looking place. Service was good when we got it, staff were friendly but as soon as we got sat at a table in the back corner we had to walk to the waitress every time we wanted services as she didn’t come near our table at all. Food was massively disappointing. I ordered rotisserie chicken for lunch which was £19. It was half a very small chicken, frozen chips, corn with bottle bbq sauce and salad with no dressing. Such a shame as it’s a lovely place and I would have loved to come back again but unfortunately I won’t be as I wouldn’t justify paying the prices for below average pub food.
