Without a doubt, it was one of the best meals I've ever had. Each plate is well thought out with interesting combinations of flavours. Great ingredients, great venue and service. Although mains might seem expansive compared to typical high street restaurants, for what you get, it's good value. There is an excellent wine list with a bottle to suit all budgets. The venue itself is comfortable and relaxed, and not stuffy or pretentious.

Wonderful food and service. Everything we had was super flavorful and yummy. The restaurant has a great mix of standards and innovative dishes. As expected the wine list is also filled with standards and unique finds.

Excellent. Been a while since I visited last but this was really very good. Excellent charcuterie and an excellent steak with a lovely bottle of red. Nice ambiance - couples and a table of eight or nine too. And the crème brûlée is worth going back for.

Without doubt our favourite restaurant in Exeter. Consistently excellent food across the board, from vegetarian to seafood to steak, a terrific wine selection and, to cap it all, a wonderful atmosphere with excellent service.

I don't live in Exeter but was visiting to a dance class. If I did live closer it's the type of place I would visit regularly. This wine bar stye restaurant (I think). We didn't eat just had coffee but looked really well laid out. Hidden in a basement in Southernhay.

Lovely little place for wine. I've been here before for a works Xmas Doo and it was great and wanted to show my partner how cute it was. We only sat at the bar for wine so can't comment on food, but it was lovely! Staff are great and the wine list was good too!

One of the few independents remaining in Exeter. It's always been of a consistently high standard and still is. Classic dishes done to fine dining quality which never disappoint and of course an amazing wine list!

Finally made it to Rendezvous and it was so worth the wait. Absolutely excellent food. We had mackerel starter and duck starter, followed by lamb main and cod main, everything was perfect and delicious. To quote my husband: 'DauphinWOW' potatoes with the lamb were particularly good. Excellent service and cosy, romantic atmosphere. We'll come back!! Thanks for looking after us.

Great food, great service and knowledge every time!

Been here twice and it's become my favourite restaurant in Exeter! First off, I have to say that the food here is really professional and the quality has been consistent so far. The bread board in the nibbles section was a good start to my meals. The sourdoughs was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside with a balsamic vinegar and olive oil dip, seeds and butter. For starters I had the goat cheese pie and the chicken liver parfait with apple, both looked and tasted amazing. I had the parfait at The Ivy but I could clearly tell the one here was higher quality. Then came on to the mains, I had the steak and the duck breast. Both meats were cooked pink and tender, with thoughtful choices of sides and sauces. The meats were basically Michelin level. I had the dessert of the cheese board last time and they used a perfect combination of 4 cheeses sourced from Devon, with a generous helping of fruit, crackers and bread. As for the wine, there were a lot of choices and unfortunately I don't know my wines so I can't tell you what I had exactly but trust me, you're in good hands here. The only downside here is the lack of staff. When I first got here, it took the host quite a few minutes to notice me.

Cosy wine bar with a well curated selection of excellent wines located in the basement of a historic building. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and, although we didn't eat here, the food looked good too.

Cosy wine bar/restaurant with a great selection of wines and beers. The menu was also interesting, original and adventurous without being too fussy. A few of us had the fish which was done to perfection. Lovely desserts too. The service was excellent, friendly and welcoming. Happy to recommend

The food here is so good! Prices are high but it's definitely worth it. I started with scallops, which were the best I'd ever eaten. I had duck confit for the main, which was spectacular! And to finish I had a pineapple tarte tatan which was dreamy, followed by a nightcap of Talisker. Staff are genuine and friendly and clearly love their jobs. I found that they have perfected the art of when to approach and attend to us and when we were ok. There is a wide selection on wines to suit your various tastes and meal choices! Will definitely keep returning here!

Simply amazing. Everything about Rendezvous is perfect. An amazing wine selection, great menu catering for all tastes, wonderful staff who are friendly and accommodating. If i could rate higher i would. A true gem of a venue.

Best place I've been In Exeter with one caveat , allowing dogs in a cosy wine bar on an evening sitting is not acceptable in my eyes.

Secluded wine bar and restaurant with a very extensive wine menu and changing food menu from 6.00. The fish dishes are worth a special mention. Excellent service overseen by Gemma the owner. We were there on a Tuesday evening, and it was buzzing. A good sign of any establishment. A real culinary diamond in Exeter.

Small and tucked out of the way down some stairs but well worth a visit. A great selection of wines and also a good pint in here as well. Have never eaten in here as we tend to pop in for a drink before heading elsewhere but the food always looks amazing.

Cosy downstairs in winter and cheery in the summer in the garden. Privately owned by someone who cares, you will be treated well at the Rendezvous. Good proper bistro food, great wine list. The legal people of Exeter go here for after work drinks which can be interesting. I’ve been coming here for years and highly recommend it. Last week I had a very satisfying steak cooked exactly medium rare as I asked. The desserts were very popular on my table too.

What an amazing restaurant! It has become one of my favourite in Exeter after my second visit there! The atmosphere, the food, the service, everything is outstanding. And their home made bread will always make come back for more! The wine selection is very good also. Thank you for making every guest feeling so special and pampered!

Expensive, but nice. Until we knocked the picture off the wall. Very quiet though, expected it to be full of overpaid lawyers that we could quietly laugh about, so were denied that bit of fun, which, tbh, is the only reason that we go there once a year.

This is a general review - we have eaten at Rendezvous numerous times over the last year and every time it has been fantastic. This is far and away the best restaurant in Exeter, it has a menu that is impossible to choose from, but you know whichever dish you go for will be perfectly executed. Anyone who is thinking of going to the Ivy or similar should be going here instead.

We had an excellent meal here. The menu choice was very good - I could have eaten here several nights running choosing different dishes easily. The food tasted great and the service was very good. We all enjoyed the ambience. We could see why it is popular!

Enjoyed a lovely evening with my husband and son! The staff were attentive and very friendly. The food was locally sourced and excellently executed from the chicken liver parfait to the lime and clotted cream cheesecake. There was an wide range of wine and we drank a smooth bold Shiraz from Babylostoren in South Africa. Would highly recommend!!

My favourite restaurant after a 6-day stay in Exeter. Very good food, and a fantastic selection of wines including lots by the glass so you can try matching to the food. Service could perhaps have been a little faster but there seemed to be only 2 waiting staff. Would definitely like to go back

Incredible food, wide selection of wines and excellent service.

Visited in 15th April for an anniversary meal and I’m pleased to say it was fantastic. My wife is a vegetarian and this unfortunately can sometimes lead to an excellently described dish on a menu being disappointingly bland when served, this was absolutely not the case in Rendezvous. The Bubble & Squeak was delicious and the accompanying veg were amazing. I opted for the Rib Eye Steak and it was right up there with the best steak I’ve had in any restaurant, so tender and perfectly cooked. The deserts were delicious too and all this topped off with friendly attentive staff. If you’re reading this and still not sure, then we can sure you, you will not be disappointed. Thanks Rendezvous for a fantastic evening and next time we’re in Exeter we will definitely return.

What an absolutely great find! Cannot recommend highly enough. Lovely atmosphere, independent, food is out of this world and the service makes you feel special - nothing was too much trouble (and we were a picky group). Will 100% be returning next time in Exeter.

Went here for my last date night with the wife before we move up to Scotland and we made the perfect choice! Food was out of this world, wine was incredible and the staff couldn't do enough for you. Loved it

Loved the ambiance of the cellar bar and restaurant. Food and service was excellent. I found the noise of the heavy chairs being moved on the stone floor to be seated and getting up a bit annoying. It won't put us off visiting again though,thanks for a wonderful meal.

It is impossible to enter this place without a wheelchair, and very difficult on crutches. Whilst the food is lovely, it is very pretentious and expensive.

We went for a drink and did not use the restaurant. There is a good wine list with many wines at a reasonable price (for a bar). The rooms are all exposed brickwork and beams. A bit of a cacophony of happy diners chatting but overall very pleasant.

The food, absolutely amazing! Haven't tasted a better meal in Exeter before. A huge shout out to the amazing waitress, Gemma, who gave us excellent tips on which wines to pair with our meal and delivered above and beyond smiley service despite awkward questions about the menu! Bravo, 5 stars. Would definitely recommend!

Cellar bar with good selection of wine.

After eating here I understand why Exeter is voted the best place to eat out. The food was seasonal, with incredible flavours. The wine was excellent and the service was friendly and super accomodating to all our dietary needs. The owner even recommended some local walks for our stay in Exeter. Will definitely eat here again if I’m ever back in Exeter.
