We live a few hundred yards from Ratchada. Looks like it's closed: fixtures removed, incoming post littering the floor etc. No signs of life at all. Bye bye.

The food tastes okay, however the food is mostly pre-cooked & microwaved which for the prices isn't good enough. Otherwise a friendly but disorganised service.

it's a kind of restaurant every neighborhood should have, but it isn't as inexpensive at it used to be.The food is good (it used to be great at pre-2014 price hike). The service and food are both good, plus the menu has enough choices.

if my eyes were closed I would have thought I am in the country itself. Genuinely authentic dishes, served in a friendly atmosphere. The ambiance is very much accented on the Thai Royal Family (much revered in Thailand, but a bit strange to me) and the traditional musical background may not appeal to unaccustomed ears. Good food though, would visit again.

Picked up a takeaway from here for the first time. The food was good ( I had the chicken with pumpkin curry) the owner had a chat with us and was a very friendly, smiley woman. The place was clean and the food didn't take long to appear, although we were the only people in there. I know it was only my first visit but I'm not sure all these bad reviews are warranted! It seemed absolutely fine to me and would definitely go there again.

We got takeaway. Mine was supposed to be a noodle dish with green vegetables. It was totally inedible, tasted disgusting, salty, with lots of unidentifiable bits of fried stuff (probably egg), around 2 small pieces of broccoli and ranks looking lettuce. My husbands chicken tasted off though the red curry sauce was okay. We will never ever be going back there again. £19 was a bit steep to begin with but basically wasted £20 and I'm still hungry as had to throw out the food.

There were just us and another table of dinners but it still took 20 minutes to take the order. This was despite 3 people serving. Madness. The waitress taking the order did not inspire confidence. The wine list looked reasonable, but when we ordered they only had a house red and white. We had the white which was horrible. They still charged £20 for it. After an hour wait we complained. They then brought our starter and main together which was infuriating. My starter cost £10 and was supposed to have crab claws. These turned out to be processed fish which was completely tasteless. The whole experience spoilt our evening. I can't think of being to a worse restaurant for quite sometime. They did apologise but I had to insist on a reduction to the bill.

Ate here for the first time today checking out a local Thai takeaway having just moved to the area. We were very disappointed. When I arrived (after half an hour as instructed) only part of the order was ready, I was actually told they had yet to cook one dish and I saw them put the spring roles out of the freezer into the deep fat fryer whilst I was waiting. The staff, to their credit, were very apologetic, I didn't come into contact with the legendary owner though. When all the food was together I was able to leave and continue being disappointed at home. I had ordered more than I would order at our old takeaway place but actually got less food than I would expect. The food, however, tasted 'alright' but certainly didn't make up for the lack of quantity.Overall, we won't be going back due to small portions, poor service, and high cost for what it was.

...or not. As most people say here, the wait is awful. There was 3 people waiting for their takeaway for 40 minutes, meanwhile we got prawn crackers after 30 minutes to keep us waiting. Then arrive these 2 women, friends with the owner. They sit down and 10 minutes later, their order arrive whilst people who had been waiting 20 minutes for their starters had still not been served. Obvious lack of respect towards the customer. How is this place still open, I'm not sure. Food was good though, staff are nice but the owner is obviously up her own pipe.

We have been eating at Ratchanda for years and always enjoy the food. It is true that the prices went up recently but this is Blackheath don’t forget, you’re hardly going to find a Mr Wu here!We are just as bemused by the reviews here, perhaps some of the diners expected Michelin star service on a budget! The food is authentic and very tasty; we often go for the milder Thai green curry which the chief is happy to make to order. We would recommend the Thai Banana Fritters as we found them some of the best outside Thailand.Go on give it a go as long as you dont expect the red carpet to be rolled out for you :)

I ordered from this restaurant on line through takeaway.com. After an hour wait I contacted them as nothing had been received. I was advised that orders through takeaway.com had just been dispatched and were with the delivery driver for delivery in 5-10 minutes. After 20 minutes I rang back and was advised that they hadn't completed my order as they "don't check their e-mails very often" I was told my food would be ready in 20 minutes If I wanted it or they could cancel it. I asked why they had signed up to Takeaway.com if they were not going to check their e-mails to which they responded that I should have rang them directly. The woman then said that I should call Takeaway.com if I wanted to complain She then hung up. I then chose to email Takeaway.com and explain the situation to them. They contacted the restaurant and were advised that this had been an ongoing dispute with me and that they would not be delivering me anything.I only noticed the restaurant yesterday whilst driving past it and have never been to or had any contact with them before. Not only was I lied to by the staff they also claimed that I had been the one at fault!! Please avoid. I wish I had read these reviews before ordering a takeaway which took two hours to recieve from the time I ordered but I also had to go and collect! Apparently the delivery driver had had a car accident so no orders could be delivered but the waiters did not seem to know any details of this when another customer enquired further. The owner did not make any effort to make an apology to myself despite stating that my order would be ready to be collected in twenty further minutes (one hour after it had been initially ordered!) which then proceded to be ready a further forty minutes after I arrived at the restautant! I paid when I first arrived to collect my takeaway and then wasn't even offered my change. Upon my food finally being ready I anticipated some kind of refund or prawn crackers at the very least but neither were offered and not even an apology was made by the owner. One of the waiters (possibly her son) offered a very sheepish and quiet apology which I presume he did not want her to hear. Despite feeling quite sorry for him I cannot feel sorry for an owner that does not know the meaning of customer service. The kitchen was caotic (despite only two tables dining in the restaurant they still managed to get the orders muddled up), looked dirty and I even saw rice being heated up in microwaves as I finally received my food. The food was alright, it was nothing special but wasn't too bad in fairness. It was however ridiculously expensive (£27 for a quick Saturday night takeaway) and certainly not worth waiting two hours for. If the owner had any sort of customer service I could forgive that but unfortunately it seems like an all to common experience based on the reviews on this site already.I would suggest you all avoid this place if you want a good experience!

My wife and I visited this little gem three times over the 2 months we have lived in this neighbourhood. I tried different curry dishes each time and were blown away every time by how tasty the food was. It is simply one of the best tasting Thai restaurant we have ever been to in London. We ordered Tom Kha soup with mixed mushroom every time we were there as a starter and just couldn't get enough of it.We find the staff very friendly and the hygiene standard extremely high. The kitchen is open to the dining area and nothing seems more appetising than smelling the delicious aroma coming from the kitchen while you wait for your food. The kitchen seems busy every time we were there because it also does delivery so it can sometimes take longer to get your food. But I've got nothing to complain about as the food was always excellent. I am bemused by all the angry reviews below because we had totally different experiences there. In summary : we ordered takeaway, after waiting an hour and a half we tried to cancel the order, they said 'no refund' but offered us free prawn crackers, when after 2 hours it finally arrived the food was good, but there were no prawn crackers. When we first ordered they told us delivery would be in an hour. We waited an hour. Then we phoned them to ask when it would be delivered - they said wait another hour. We asked for a discount - the guy on the phone went off to ask, and we heard the owner in the background screaming 'No discount! No discount!'. They said it would be with us soon and offered some prawn crackers. We waited another half an hour, then got totally sick of waiting and called to cancel the order, poor guy on the phone asked again and we got the distant screams of 'No refund! No refund!'. We had paid on card with the order - big mistake - so we just had to wait. When the food arrived it was actually pretty good, but not worth waiting two hours and having to fight with the restaurant to get it at all.

Tonight was my brother-in-laws birthday so me and the family headed out to what we believed would be a nice meal. Looking at their website they appear a clean, friendly, welcoming restaurant....how wrong could that be!The service was shockingly poor. Our waiter forgot our orders, he brought us other peoples meals, he didn't know the dishes or know the difference between duck and beef. He made my mother-in-law wait over an hour for a pot of tea despite several reminders and then forgot the milk and spoon. When asking him to change a couple of dishes, a women from the kitchen came out to ask why we would change it in a rather aggressive manner. The food then came in dries 'n' drabs so we didn't get to eat together and my fiancés meal (fish platter at £22.50) which took the longest to cook was then over cooked - the squid could have been used as tread on a tyre he was chewing for ages. The prawns were tasteless and still had the poo stream despite being butterflied and the fish looked like it had seen better days. The only positive we're the mussels, but then they had no sauce on them. My 'chicken' green curry only had 2 pieces of chicken in, my mother-in-laws veggie rice had chicken in so I managed to steal that to make up for the lack of it in my meal. Basically you get the picture.....poor quality service and food. My partner ordered a wine, it was corked, when asking for a fresh one, we didn't see a new glass being pored so they probably just sieved it out. When our sweet but rather incompetent waiter asked how our meal was, we explained the issues and he kindly asked us not to complain as he couldn't take anymore conflict!!!! We asked to see the manager, he whimpered but reluctantly went and fetched them. When we explained we were less than impressed, she said well I didn't charge you service! yes you read that correctly - we were lucky folks. We said we didn't feel the bill reflected the food and service and would like my partners fish platter taken off at least. Suddenly the manager started to shout at us telling us that was the cost, we must pay. We refused so she locked us in and starting to shout at her staff the call the police. No customer could come in or out, it was lock down. My father-in-law didn't want the stress for his elderly mother so paid the bill in full, however, if she hadn't been there, we would have quite happily waited for the police. This establishment is a joke...whatever you do, AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAQUE.....

Totally agree with cassiopeia87 and joan222, wish i'd seen these before we visited this dreadful place. seafood dish (£22.50) was overcooked and tasted like rubber. wine was corkled, i ordered vegetable rice and got chicken, waited an hour for a pot of tea which came with a cup no saucer or teaspoon, none of the dishes came together, chicken was overcooked, rice was boil in a bag not authentic thai rice, we politely asked for the seafood dish to be removed from the bill, our waiter said there had been many complaints and didn't really want to speak to the owner/manager. After he told her that we wanted some money taken off the bill, this screaming banshee stormed over to our table and refused to take anything off the bill or acknowledge there was anything wrong with the food or service. She demanded full payment, then barred the front door threatening to call the police. I wanted to wait for the police but because we had my elderely mother with us my husband was worried about causing her stress so much to everyone s annoyance, he paid. This womans behaviour is disgraceful, this restaurant is awful, awful food and no customer service. this was my son's birthday which was totally ruined. I BEG EVERYONE, PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. Our bill came to £130, which included one glass of corked wine which was given back to us after some of the cork had been removed. Firstly, i'd just like to say a big THANK YOU to Joan222 for her review, as it was myself and my partner who had to experience the wrath of Ratchada. Often you you leave somewhere and on reflection think that you might have overreacted, or thought that what happened might not have been as bad as you remembered. But that review has just completely confirmed my feelings, and my right to have felt shaken up by the situation for two days after this happened.Secondly i'd like to explain a bit more about the most horrendous and scary restaurant visit of my life.Customer loyalty means absolutely NOTHING to this woman, as we too have eaten at this restaurant on numerous occasions, as well as the rest of my family including my twin sister and her boyfriend with whom she swoons all over whenever he goes in. The point is, she knows our faces, has taken hundreds of pounds of our money, yet none of this seemed to matter when our bill was thrown onto our table at a stonking £90 for two people, consisting of 3 small beers and many dishes having been up-sold by our waiter! As you walk by and into the small restaurant, you can't miss the sign on the window that says 'enjoy our special offer of £16.95 per adult, all you can eat' or words to that effect. Nowhere does it say on this big sign that you need to see the back of the menu, or speak to the staff about it. Like I have said, we've been into the restaurant so many times, and we've never had to explain that we were doing the special deal - it's always just a given. So of course, we disputed (calmly and politely) this huge sum we were being asked to pay.One waiter comes over and tells us that some of the dishes are not on the special deal, so we said that's fine, we're happy to pay for any of the additionals. He leaves our table and comes back moments later to say that no, that wasn't the case actually, we weren't allowed to have the deal because we didn't ask for it in the first place. We pointed out that we'd been in many times before and NEVER had to ask or point out that we were doing the deal, as well as the fact that the sign does not stipulate any terms and conditions. He goes away, and with that 'Ratchada' comes storming over, PDQ machine in hand, demanding very loudly and very aggressively that we pay the bill. So we then explained to her that we were under the impression we were doing the deal, we've been here before, never had to explain before and could she please adjust the bill accordingly. I can't stress enough how civil we were being throughout this whole ordeal. 'Ratchada' then launches into this screaming attack on us both, she'd never seen us before, her place wasn't a toy shop (?!) calling ALL of her restaurant staff over to surround us, one locking the front door, another, phone in hand shouting at us telling us he was calling the police.'Ratchada' stood millimeters from my partner's face, spitting 'we asked you 10 times, we asked you 10 times' if we wanted to do the deal, to which we replied, hang on, if we were asked about the deal - there's no doubt we would have agreed to it! We WERE NOT asked if we wanted to do the deal. Then, she picked up the menu, thrust that in my partner's face and screamed look, the rules are in the back of the menu, you needed to tell us, picking up my partner's sunglasses, shaking them in his face, asking him if he needed glasses to read, and then throwing them back down onto table. At this point, it all gets a bit too much for me and I start to cry, and shake a bit, my heart is pounding with all the commotion that's going on. She then turns to me and shouts 'look at you, you think you're special because you're crying? Who do you think you are?' I can't describe how intimidating it is being sat down with 5 men and one demonic woman standing, surrounding you, screaming at you.The customer was NOT right in her evil eyes, she had absolutely no care for any of her other customers in the restaurant at that time either (like Joan2222 has said), and she just kept demanding and shouting that we paid the bill. Whilst my partner was prepared to wait for the police to arrive, I was increasingly more hysterical and just wanted to get out of there. I paid the bill after she snatched my card from me, and I apologised to all other patrons around us for the disorder, and ruining their nights. I could not however drive home after this, I was just too distraught, and feeling guilty about spoiling it for the other couples and families. My partner drove us home, and I called my sister as soon as I got in, in floods of tears telling her about the experience and pleading with her to never go back. My sister, as she knows 'Ratchada' somewhat personally because of the frequency of their visits, sent her a Facebook message, expressing how disappointed and upset she was that she'd reduced her sister (me) to tears, and that she won't be returning to the restaurant herself ESPECIALLY after being charged £42 for a take away for one, that very same night. Ratchada then swiftly replied saying it was my partner's fault. This woman has a SERIOUSLY warped mind. It sounds utterly stupid, but I was so affected by this uproar that I couldn't sleep that Friday night, and it made me feel so desperately low for the rest of the weekend. PLEASE - DON'T go here. PLEASE don't give them your money. It was so clear that this act of theirs was rehearsed. They'd so clearly had people dispute the bill before, and they knew exactly what to do to ensure they could get as much money out of you as possible. They wanted you, like we had, to just give in and pay the full bill. Moreover, having spoken to friends about her since, we've learned that others have had similar experiences of her. So again, please all, don't allow yourselves to get into this situation. Thank you!

I have been to the Ratchada many times and the food has always been good; however I visited with my husband and son one evening and was shocked by the way another couple were treated by the staff in particular the owner. There was a disagreement about the deal of £16.95 when the couple went to pay and although it does say at the back of the menu that you must state when you are ordering that you want the special offer the reaction of the staff to the couple was horrible to witness. At one stage there were five staff standing round the couples table several shouting at them to the point that my son got up and suggested they all calm down. The lady in the couple was in tears and the manager almost seemed to find this amusing. The couple in the end just paid and left. I was in shock by what had taken place, we quickly ate our food and left all vowing never to return.

Ordered prawn tom yum ... £7.95 for just a small bowl,. Button mushrooms and 5 prawns in a strangely sweet brown liquor. Tasted like it had a squirt of tomato puree in it. Pleasing chilli punch but I left the last few spoonfuls cos too sweet. Prawn crackers OK at £2, but £3.99 for a small Chang??! I don't feel inclined to return.

Went to celebrate a special birthday, and the unlimited offer for £16.95 was very appealing. However, though the food was very tasty, for 2 people we only managed 1 bowl of soup, a few starters and a couple of main courses in 2 hours. When we tried to order more we were told there was not enough time to cook the food. There were only 2 other people in the place, but the staff were all very busy on takeaway and collection orders. Even the carryout customers were appalled by the slow service. If they cannot be bothered to serve diners, they should not call themselves a restaurant. We heartily recommend that this place is given a miss.

This Thai restaurant has only been open for a short while. The main dining room is tiny, with only space for about 6 tables. However, there is a larger room at the back of the restaurant, although I've never seen customers in there. It may be used at lunch times, I guess. So there isn't a huge amount of space. But what it lacks in dimensions, it more than makes up for in food and customer service. Let's start with the menu. It has all the usual suspects - Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai and so on, but also offers some more unusual dishes.and the dishes on offer have not been adulterated with common or garden Chinese dishes.Really beautifully cooked and presented, the food is served by helpful, friendly Thai staff. Nothing is too much trouble for them. On our first visit, my sister found herself struggling with a particularly hot dish, which she enjoyed, but which needed a great deal of tap water to help her. The waiter, having noted the situation, kept the jugs of water coming without being asked! This little restaurant is definitely worth a visit and would like some genuine Thai food.

Tiny "shop-front" of a Thai restaurant in deepest, darkest Lee Green. Nice food, reasonable prices, though rather cramped surroundings if you ask me. The area was crying out for another Thai for several years, so props to Ratchada for giving Laicram some competition.
