Rakhang in West Dorset

Wonderfully efficient and helpful service. The food was pretty good too but would suggest the a la carte menu not the set menues which we found to be a bit too filling and the dishes a bit to similar to each other. However it was well cooked and delightfully presented. Well worth a second visit.

Firstly, the carpet needs a good old clean…that’s just the beginning. The bathrooms were in need of some love as was the rest of the place. We returned home yesterday all feeling sick, the food was average and we’ve had better from Waitrose. Overpriced and under delivered sad to say, although the front of house man was lovely.

We last visited this restaurant about a year ago. Portions were small then, but even smaller now ! I must have been served the smallest Thai fishcakes in history, about the size of a spoonful each ! The main course tasted fine, nothing wrong with the quality and flavour, but again quite a small portion. My wife enjoyed her Pad Thai. An extra item had appeared on our bill, but was gladly removed when we queried this. Still good, but too small ( for a grown man )

Lovely lunch time spot. Had the 3 course meal deal which is such good value. I had a delicious curry and really enjoyed the battered banana desert. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would come again

Worst Thai meal ever. I can't believe others have rated this place 4.6?????? Had a takeaway - Thai red curry, looked more green in colour, well grey dishwater colour. Tasted like dishwater also, no real depth of flavours. Pad Thai far too sweet. Rice smelt metallic. Sesame prawn toast was the only nice thing about the meal. Steer well clear if I was you.

Visited with my partner the other week and we had a lovely meal, we didn’t book but they had a table for us. The man that served us looked after us very well through the evening. All staff super friendly and it really made it a great experience. Would definitely recommend in bridport, the food was fantastic and I cannot wait to visit again!

The food was really tasty but the portion size was very small compared with other Thai restaurants we have been to. We eat out at various Thai restaurants a lot but hadn't tried Rakhang. We had been advised by friends of the small portion sizes so we ordered more. The food had good flavour but we felt there are better options around (the Thai restaurants in Dorchester or Lopen for example). Therefore on comparison with those we felt we could only give it 4 stars

Such a delight! Been coming here for dinner for years. Always delicious food and friendly service. Roast duck curry with pineapple is a must! Lots of tasty spicy salads too.

On a visit to Bridport and wanted a quick lunch. Have previously ate in this restaurant when in the Bridport area. So we choose it again. As it was lunch time there is a reduced menu. We both chose the two course lunch option. We were the only two customers. When looking at menu to select a drink we were offered a freshly made lime drink which we had and it was very refreshing I choose fish cakes. When they were served I was a bit taken back as they did not look like any fish cake I have ever had. On checking the menu they are described as deep-fried fish patties. They did not taste much of fish but dipping them into the Thai spiced dip they were fine. Phil had sesame toast which was chicken and prawn on toast deep fried which he enjoyed. For my main I had a prawn dish with stir fried Thai rice. It was lovely. Fresh vegetables that were crisp and tasty. Spiced but not too hot. For his main Phil had a chicken dish with stir fried rice. He enjoyed it. Chicken was tender. It was spiced but not too hot. We decided not to try a dessert. Our food was served quickly. Portions were not the most generous, but it was lunch time and the prices were lower than the full evening menu. We both left clean plates. Service was good, the male waiter did most of the work and hardy spoke as he served us, but not a problem. Well worth a visit just to try for yourself.

When I first looked the food looked really fresh and inviting however upon tasting it I found it really insipid. I got heat and some chicken flavour but no sweetness, sourness or salt. Cooked without tasting it I imagine.

Visited while in the area. Didn’t book but were given a table even though most tables were reserved. We chose the set meal for two and were not disappointed. The starters were fantastic- chicken skewers, prawn toast, spring rolls and tempura prawns with different dipping sauces- followed by fried rice and a beef dish, a pork dish and a chicken green curry. All three were amazing so fresh tasty and full of flavour. To finish off we both chose ice cream. It was very busy there with the staff literally run off their feet but our food came out promptly and was piping hot. Would definitely recommend this little gem of a restaurant.

Amazing food! We came here for lunch after a day at Bridport market and it did not disappoint. We had the sweetcorn cakes (SO good - light and crispy, not greasy, and the sauce was fab) and the tom kha soup to start, which was also very tasty and just the right level of spice. Then we had the pad Thai (sweet, aromatic and packed with ingredients) and the red curry which was again not too hot but a really nice spice level. Nothing was remotely greasy or oily and we were full but not feeling gross which is great after such a big meal and speaks to the quality of ingredients (loads of fresh vegetables in the curry!). Then we split the fried banana and this was a really good end to the meal. Service was great, it was very fast despite them being busy, and the lunch deal was great value. We will definitely come back.

Well how disappointing our takeaway was. The worst most greasy Thai green curry we've ever had. Absolutely gutted to be honest.

Highly recommended ... amazing food, amazing staff .. we were really well looked after ... Our family of 4 (inc 2 children) visited with 2 friends on the Tuesday during half term week. We had out little puppy with us and was aloes to bring him in, in his carrier. We were treated so well and had such a good supper that we rebooked for the Thursday of the same week as we just loved the food and service. At the end of out second visit we chatted to our friends elderly father and the owner (?) Gave us a gift to give to him so he didn't feel left out ... a truly amazing thing to do. We wish we lived closer as we would imagine we'd visit a couple of times a month.Highly recommended and I hope they can survive lockdown 2 and we will look forward to visiting again just as soon as we can.Thank you for a wonderful 2 evening suppers.

We were rushing to revisit this Thai restaurant on our way see family in Dorset.And we braved enough to try some new dishes this time as our last visit was very nice. And this time, we tried Lamb Mussamun and Spicy Prawns with basil, both were great. Highly recommened.

We pop in for quick lunch, as craving for noodles, then we walked pass after walked around Saturday street market, and presently surprised with the Pad Thai at Rakhang. Nothing more to say, but very good. We both enjoyed our lunch very much.

This is so much improved from my last visit which was quite a while ago. Lovely welcoming staff. Menu choices are good. My friend and I shared a starter platter which was extremely generous as were the main course portions.

Cute simple little restaurant on the high street. We ordered the spicy noodle dish and beef massaman. Both were exceptional, the beef was so fragrant and the noodle dish had so much depth and flavour. I’d go as far as to say some of the best Thai food we’ve ever had in the UK and easily competes with the London restaurant scene. The food was so great, we decided to go a second night.The owner is super friendly and kind. The first night we had to wait outside for our table and the owner kindly brought out a chair for me to sit on whilst we waited (even though it was only for 5 minutes!) and the second time we returned he treated us like old friends, it was really lovely. He gave great recommendations, and when we ordered 2 dishes that were similar on the second night he suggested we try a different second dish so that we could try a variety of flavours. In the end we went with a pad Thai and a chilli duck dish (that wasn’t even on the menu)! Once again we were not disappointment. Would definitely return if I was in the area again.

I visited Thailand in 2018, and we miss the foods there the most of everything elseThen we came to Dorset for a weekend the weather was not on our side and I thought I preferred Tom Yum for a treat then RAKHANG Bridport was not disappointing me. We had the set lunch and could not believe the quality over the price they asked foods were fantastic. I have been eating Tom Yum everywhere and at RAKHANG it was the closest memory I had back two years agoSo I thought I should share my experience here. Great food.

So good we had to go back! We went twice when visiting family nearby and can say it is fab tasting food, lots of choice for everyone. We had takeaway and it was still a great service. They were so helpful and were very good with food allergies. Seriously recommend, wish this was our local!

Me and my boyfriend visited last night for our 2 year anniversary. We were greeted at the door and shown to our table. The staff were wearing visors which made us feel very comfortable given the current situation. The food arrived very quickly and was beautifully presented. The flavours were amazing and we were very happy with our choices. The restaurant had a really lovely atmosphere and was beautifully decorated. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. We are sad that we aren’t local and can’t visit more regularly, but will definitely be returning when we are next in Bridport.

We stay in Bridport every year and always visit this lovely restaurant. From the warm welcome from the friendly staff the whole experience is so lovely. The food is delicious and always consistent. Thai is my favourite food so a visit to Rakhang is first on our list. The staff are so friendly and helpful too.

since we could not travel abroad and I always want to see Dorset Summer, we took off for a road trip. Everything was great, the weather was nice and enjoy everything we could throughout the journey. We both a big fan of Asian foods, and Thai is of course one of our favorites. did not expect much but foods at Rakhang was great. We asked for authentic flavours,and we got what we asked for. One additional compliment is their beer were ice cold after a hot afternoon, was perfect. It was very refreshing. the staff were very nice, we did not book, as we looked from outside they were full, but took our chances and decided to ask for a table for us, we were lucky with a little wait and a beer each.

Been visiting to Bridport for about 5 years but never ventured across the road to eat at Rakhang until now and it did not disappoint. We visited on a Sunday evening and it was packed - booking essential. 'Usual' Thai menu but the execution was excellent and without doubt the star of the evening was the chicken larb salad which packed punch and that authentic Thai umami. Brilliant. The wine list was, and somewhat surprisingly, excellent and less than half the price of an identical bottle in 'normal' restaurant. Next time we are in Bridport we will be popping back.

My husband and I arrived in Dorset one Saturday in August having not booked anywhere for dinner that night. We decided to head in to Bridport in the hope of finding somewhere but everywhere was fully booked. Then we stumbled upon this restaurant and they said they could seat us outside which was fine. I am so happy we stumbled upon this restaurant! The food is so so so good, the beer is ice cold, and the service is fantastic!! We liked it so much we booked for the following Saturday evening (our last night in Dorset). The food and service were just as good again! Everything we ate on both occasions was fantastic! I only wish we lived closer!

We went for lunch on Monday with my husband and our 6 year old daughter.They perfectly catered for our dietary requirements (gluten-free, dairy-free, no MSG). The food was fresh, perfectly flavoured and outstanding quality. The service was wonderful, the ladies were very helpful, attentive and friendly but not overbearing. Everything was just perfect and we enjoyed a very high quality, beautiful meal. Thank you so much!

We arrived to the restaurant from a friend recommendation, and she was right. Great evening, Thai foods tasted like Thai foods we had in Thailand. We love cooking and we know all the tricks, but this place smashed it. The Satay Sauce was one of the best we had for a long time. That combination of three lead flavours were well balanced, of course we are a big Satay Fan and tried to cook the satay sauce which we often get it wrong, but trust me, Rakhang satay sauce is good. Our main courses were nice presented as well. We went to Thailand and had an opportunity to attend a Thai cooking classes in Hyatt Bangkok, and both of us agreed that the foods here were as good as those we learnt and cooked, and obviously tasted in Thailand. Our main courses were, Thai Green Prawns curry and Seabass. So, Thank you very much for a lovely evening.

In these days post-lockdown, it was wonderful to feel so safe in Rakhang with distancing etc managed well. They found us a table late in the evening with great flexibility, and all four of us had great meals. Will be returning soon. So glad that Bridport has Rakhang.

Came here as a first meal out since lockdown and couldnt have wanted any more from the evening. Super covid friendly with hand sanitiser upon arrival, staff wearing face masks and a good distance between the tables. The food was absolutely amazing, high recommend the vegetarian starter for two and the vegetable Thai green curry! However it was the staff that made the whole evening. Lovely service and so kind and engaging, they made the night for us! Would recommend to anyone, we can’t wait to come back :)

Family run restaurant with great food especially the Pad Thai Gai. The menu was extensive & all reasonably priced. The family are lovely, made us feel very welcome, were very attentive & had a great sense of humour. We went twice during our stay & we will visit again next we are in Bridport.

Stopped to look at the menu and decided to give it a try. Even though they were about to close the manager said it was no problem. We had several dishes to share including the red and green curries with chicken and beef.I have to say it was all really delicious, best Thai food I’ve had, lovely subtle flavours and light sauces with fresh vegetables. Service was great and I can’t wait to return!

Two of us called in for dinner on Monday. The menu is packed with Thai favourites and our only problem was deciding what to order. We opted for Thai fish cakes and Chicken Larb to start, followed by a Red Thai curry, and a Pad Thai. Everything was well cooked and beautifully presented. The food tasted fresh and zingy, spicy and delicious. Everything was cooked to order so we had a short wait but the delightful waitress ensured that our glasses were topped up, and served the food very efficiently. We know Thailand well and at the end of the meal the Manager, a charming man, was happy to chat about his home country. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Rakhang and will certainly visit again next time we are in Bridport. We would have no hesitation in recommending this delightful restaurant.

They are also part of the Dine App. So we have 25% off our meal.Only thing Id like to mention is with the crapoy weather. They had no coat hooks. So we everyone had to hang their wet coats on the back of there chairs.

We visited this Thai restaurant for the first time during a half term break near Bridford. It is a well presented place with warm and welcoming staff. The menu is extensive and reasonably priced, and the food was delicious. Thoroughly recommended.

Our second visit here. We arrived late and the staff were really charming and told us it was no problem and to take our time with our meal. Food came quickly and was tasty and well-presented. Good value and an altogether very pleasant place to dine.

We have visited Rakhang at least 4 times in the past few months and we always receive a warm welcome! We haven’t had a bad meal yet and the new manager and waiting staff can’t do enough for you. The set menu is excellent value for money and we end up struggling to finish it all. We will definitely be back many more times in the future.

Our T20 Cricket Match at Taunton was called off so we were looking for somewhere to spend £60 ticket refund. The restaurant was welcoming and comfortable the food delicious, fresh and varied. We ordered a set meal which with a couple of drinks used up our refund exactly. We’ve lived in Bridport for 5 years and this was our first visit, it won’t be our last.

I have gone there once a week because I enjoy the food so much. It is very quick and the woman who served me is always very kind and smiley. I love it there and I am not hesitant to go back again. It is so cheap too so I can afford it.

Lovely service from two assumedly Thai ladies who were sadly loudly chit-chatting in Thai in the middle of the uncomfortably small dining room, but then the main food I had arrived, and it looked promising. It was piping hot, and well-presented. The prawn toast on the mixed starter was light and all cooked in clean oil, portion for the starter generous, but I had had a concern when they had already bought the Chinese-style free prawn crackers on arrival, with a sweet chilli dip that I swear contained water and tomato ketchup, and was nowhere near a good sweet chilli sauce, easily outdone by any as bottled one. When the dips came with the were all spice free, and terribly bland. If anything they had an off-key taste. It was quite a rookie mistake for a Thai, which is actually my favourite cuisine to eat our. I was shocked they were all poorly executed and had no flavour to lift or compliment any of the fried mixed starter dishes. I really struggled with it. The Satay was insipid and needed a different dimension, the pickled carrot and cucumber had no heat and the other dip just tasted vile. I was truly disappointed for them because that extra bit of authenticity could see them far less divisive than they appear to me. I’d order very selectively if I go again. I’d probably just take a bottle of sweet chilli, order the prawn toast and ask for a lot more spice. Worth noting that the tempura prawns were actually panko breadcrumbed and the noodles at the table next door we’re drowning in the aforementioned tomato water. Such a great shame!

Ordered a takeaway and when we got it home we realised there were several missing and incorrect dishes. Also the food that we did have was barely warm and needed heating again. Definitely would not recommend!

I had been here once and managed to get back for the second visit. Still great, and worth the efforts. Musamun was as good as I remember. Thai Fish Cake and Pad Thai is also very good.

Run by Thai, I was pleasantly surprised by the tasty dishes: Tom Yum Goong with fresh prawn, Paenang Gai (Chicken Curry), stir fry beef, Mixed veg with cashew nuts, & complimentary Prawn crackers.. plus Singha beer the perfect complement.. I asked for Thai chilli flakes and spicy cut chillis to satisfy my higher spicy craving after a few days of pub food. Mid Priced in this part of the town and takes only Cash.

The food was delicious! For starter I had the chicken satay and or was very tasty, even without the sauce. My husband had the mince pork salad and it was delicious, but very spicy! For main I had chicken massamam and I asked for it to be a little spicy, it was just like the one I had in Thailand! We also had desert, egg custard and banana crepes, both nice. And the service was great, very prompt and polite. I would go back.

On holiday in Charmouth we decided to check out Chinese or other oriental restaurants in the area, Rakhang in Bridport had reasonable reviews so we made a visit. The place was small and could do with a make over, how ever we gave it a try. The service was good and our starters we excellent, my spare ribs and my wife's king prawns in filo pastry with a sweet dip hit the spot! My wife had a mild chicken curry and I had a duck , ginger and spring onions, sadly not enough duck! Egg fried rice with peas was ok.

We purposely visited Bridport to eat at Rakhang yesterday as we have always enjoyed our previous visits.As usual the service was swift, polite and friendly. The food was lovely. There is a large selection of authentic Thai dishes to suit all tastes. I was delighted with my spicy pork which had lots of flavour. We will definitely be returning soon.

We went here as a couple as it the place was recommended by a dear lady that is no longer with us. She loved the food so this was a reason to celebrate her life. We only had two mains but they were excellent. The masaman was truly delicious, lots of flavour and possibly the best I have ever tasted. Go give it a try , plus they do a takeaway menu.

His Shirt was hanging out she had jogging bottoms white trainers and a hoody! come on guys this is supposed to be a restaurant if we can make the effort to dress for the occasion then at least you can do likewise as it’s your business. shame because it only requires a little effort

We needed somewhere to treat ourselves for our wedding anniversary and have visited this restaurant when it was Montien, so thought we would try it under the change of ownership. We arrived without a booking on the Saturday before Christmas and we're surprised to find there were tables free.Being braver this time, we opted for six of dishes rather than the set menu. We like hot, spicy food with flavour and our choices did not disappoint. I would recommend the green curry, minced chicken salad (amazing kick for a salad!) and the duck was just perfect. We both opted for plain tap water which was a bit boring but free refills all evening! It also meant we could savour our food properly! I finished off my meal with the steamed banana in sweet coconut milk. For a 3 course meal this came to under £60. I cannot fault it. Thank you.

My fam8ly and I had our first experience of Rakhang on Saturday night and we weren’t disappointed, the service, atmosphere and of course the food were all very good.We definitely will be back.

You don't expect to find quality Asian cuisine in a small West Dorset town so this place is an absolute treat.Comprehensive menu, well priced (lunch is a selection of prix-fixe by courses).Quality, to my taste, very good indeed and I've lived in areas well served by Thai restaurants from jumped-up street food to haute cuisine.Service (father/daughter?) exceptionally friendly. While there on last visit he was handing holiday cards to regulars. I think this restaurant has a loyal in-the-know following.

First time st this restaurant, took two friends to try it out. We were all very glad I did! Friendly staff, great menu and reasonable prices. The service was prompt, friendly without being subservient and attentive without being annoying - sadly not so common in other places. We all had a starter and a main and had to resist the desserts - no room! All the dishes were served hot, beautifully presented and delicious. Particularly recommend the duck dishes.We went in relatively early on a Friday evening and it steadily filled up. Booking might be advisable for a large group and/or at the weekend.Highly recommended and good news for me when I move here in the new year!

Fantastic food, great staff and good price. Would recommend highly! Really good for vegetarians as well
