last Saturday night haven't had such delicious food in a long time, My friend ate "south Indian garlic chili chicken" and I have eaten New dish "katta mitta" chicken Which is tarmarin flavour with Naga ,we enjoyed the food with pleasure, the combination of spices and herbs was great, have eaten here before but never seen the preparation and serving, the change in the Chef is noticeable, hope to come again.

A nice restaurant but needs fine tuning. A family get together. Great. There were 9 of us. 18 yo 80 yo. We had a lovely evening however It was marred at the end. I paid nearly £300 for the meal and was happy to do so. However, just before we left my daughter had a hypo (diabetes) and needed a quick sugar intake. I asked the waiter for a can of coke which he brought to the table. We went to leave and the manger then asked for £3,50 for a can of coke! Hmm....maybe they could let that one slip...

Gone down hill. This place used to be great. We have had two ropey meals in here lately. There is no consistency in their cooking. Over spiced, under spiced. Prawn still hard with shells. Shame as we used to love the food here. Won’t bother visiting again.

This restaurant used to be amazing but after our recent visit I will never return. New owners have taken over and the food is awful! Undercooked chicken and frozen samosas just to name a few! I witnessed 4 different tables leaving tonight as they all had issues with there food. Avoid if you value your health.

Still great food, Miah is top waiter willing to advise customers on their selection. The new management had wisely decided to keep many of the best features (menu) unchanged and gradually introducing new option. Great night out.

Delicious food and loved every part of it, definitely recommend. Our waiter was so kind and friendly and couldn’t have asked for more.

Whilst this restaurant normally receives good reviews these have changed recently. My friends and I chose to ignore this 'downward trend' (well a few unhappy customers could all visit within a quick succession can't they) but we were wrong to ignore the signs. To be honest the starters were fine but the main courses were average at best and the paratha are best avoided (they weren't anything like the ones I've ever experienced in elsewhere and were pretty stodgy and thick). Don't get me wrong, the food is edible, you won't go hungry but there'll be nothing memorable either. However it didn't help that the staff were so surly. There was no shortage of waiters but we felt like an inconvenience (rather than paying guests) and one of them kept banging down the dishes on the table. It's quite rare for me to post a poor review and I am conscious that everyone needs to make a living. However I don't think that I'll be returning to this particular restaurant.

Visited Saturday evening, greeting from staff unwelcoming.We were shown to the table,it was very cramped the table to small to accommodate any dishes ordered.Food wasn't particularly as I'd imagined,keema naan was doughy and not pleasant.It was very busy but noisy and claustrophobic.

I have been using The Raj with a group of friends for over 15 years and sadly standards have slowly declined to the point that we question whether to go there or not. Last Friday I ordered a King Prawn Pasanda which arrived looking like a bowl of custard, which I questioned, but was assured it was pasanda "because they could see the rose water". The prawns were not cooked properly and the sauce tasted disgusting. After much ado and being told that it was a Korma (which I can assure anyone that it wasn't), they bought another dish to the table which tasted a little more like pasanda, but not a lot. When we got the bill, it was full price despite being assured by the "Manager" that I would not be charged for my dish. I questioned this and was told "you have had your meal so pay", so when I asked for the manager, the Gentleman told me he was the manager and the older man had gone home - how convenient that the managers change to suit. Frankly, I found the staff rude and couldn't care less about the customer and they were prepared to fob me off with a "dish" that they knew was not right. Unfortunately I do not know what was in the first "dish" but I was up several times in the night with sickness and diarrhoea. The whole experience spoiled an otherwise lovely evening out with friends and subsequently wiped out my weekend. We will not be returning, but judging by their attitude, I doubt they are particularly bothered.

Take away order not delivered. I rang The Raj and asked them if they could help and they said no, nothing to do with them, not interested. I advised that I have had a weekly delivery for at least 5 years but they repeated they were not interested. So disappointed - never using them again as they do not value regular customers.

Recommended by our cab driver, so gave it a try, vast array of dishes you name it they do it. Nice decor, and quite cheap for what we had. Set meal for 2 people £32, more than enough food, although the onion barges were overdone and just fell apart. Few people in there for a Wednesday night

Let me start off with the staff ,really friendly and accommodating,we’ve tried most of the indians in Brentwood and for ages have been wanting to try here,we were sat quickly just before our booked table time, on sitting down they laid the table the tablecloth was clearly stained and had a hole in it,popadums came and to be honest was nice with the mint sauce onion salad etc Ordered King prawn on puri and chicken chat for starters when it arrived there was 4 prawns with I’d say 3 spoonfuls of sauce,a really poor serving my chicken chat on puri was ok but the edges were crispy as if it was under a heat light for a while,the table to our right had their mains delivered only to hear them asked the waitier to take a dish b ack as it had hairs in it The table to our left had their mains delivered but some onion Bhaji turned up for them and they said they didn’t order them,the waiter checked and said it was for another table,well as the time was getting on and we were most likely the only table that had not had their mains I guessed it was ours,but seeing as we were just having our starters it would be a while b3fore we was wanting ours Mains turned up low and behold the onion Bhajis reappeared on cutting one open it was Luke warm at best so sent them back as I knew what they had done,our chicken dansak was really nice but our lamb aloo dish wasn’t very good and it certainly didn’t taste like a nice bit of meat I’m glad we tried here but won’t be rushing back as it’s our least favourite in the area

Have to say that after eating curry’s all over Essex for 30 years this is up there with the best take away curry I have had ! … recently moved to Brentwood and I’ve ordered 3 times from here and last night was so good I was recommended it to everyone in the whats app group . I was pleasantly surprised ! Me and the mrs order a set meal for 2 which is very reasonable and add on a few things but the food is always fresh and not that greasy. One of the best take away curry’s I’ve had . I don’t do reviews but I thought it was so good I’d come on here to recommend it …. Spot on 👌🏻

Food was cold, no taste it felt like we was eating yesterday’s dinner. So disappointed and won’t be ordering again!

We have had a few take aways from the raj in the past and they have been good. However on this occasion we were not impressed, we placed an order which had an expected delivery time of 20-25 minutes, however we were still waiting over an hour later. I contacted the restaurant who said they would be with us soon, when they turned up it was in a taxi?! When we eventually had our food it was quite cold and my mum also had a bit of plastic in the curry. I won’t be ordering from here again any time soon following this experience, really disappointing.

We ordered a takeaway because friends always rave about how good the Raj is and feeling lazy felt like giving it a try. However, we were very dissappointed with the lack of taste and quality of food. It was bland and the main meat dishes were just full of runny sauce and big onions, peppers and tomatoes thrown in with lack of meat. Been Indian myself I know a good curry and this was far from that trust me. Also, it wasn't cheap a waste of over £70 on a Friday night treat. I do not recommend and suggest you order from elsewhere.

As always great food and service from The areas best Indian restaurant. The family that run this restaurant are warm friendly and welcoming and more importantly genuine ! They really go the extra mile to accommodate their customers. The food is faultless, interesting and very very tasty. It’s everything you want from an Indian whether a curry expert or a casual diner !

I have used the Raj for many years. I have taken the sales team to the restaurant for meals and on the last ocassion the team were all moaning of the quality. Since then i have been using the Pilgrims Korai and trust me they take some beating. This evening the Pilgrims korai not deliver because the restaurant was so busy. No suprise there!!!! I called the Raj to see if they could put things right and privide a great service with amazing food. Unfortunatley they failed!!! Onion bahgi was missing from the order when delivered. I called to bring it to there attention. A driver then delivered them after we had finished the meal. They were as hard and as small as golf balls. Good news im going to the golf range in the morning and will be taking them with me as not fit to eat. Unless you want to lose a tooth or two. I will update you all to confirm how far i hit these bhagi balls. Sorry will never return ton the Raj. Pilgrims korai if you cant deliver i will come and collect in the future.

We walked in off the street to find a busy restaurant but they found a table for us. The service was efficient and we were served good portions of hot fresh food and the bill at the end was very reasonable. A lucky find.

I am not normally one to write reviews and must say when I read reviews of some places I think you can’t please everyone but I cannot believe the service I experienced this evening.If you are looking for good service or for feeling accommodated in a restaurant, DO NOT go to The Raj.We, as a group of 4 adults and 1 child, made a booking 5 days in advance via Qandoo. The booking was accepted and confirmed however when we arrived at the restaurant this evening we were told they didn’t have the booking and do not accept Quandoo bookings for Friday and Saturday evenings and they had turned it off for this weekend due to the Christmas light switch on! After much discussion amongst each other they decided they could squeeze us in but only for 1.5 hours as they were fully booked and would require the table - what a warm, lovely welcome!We were shown to a small table of 4 even though there were 5 of us at the end of the bar which we all had to cram around. They did not have any highchairs (I have now read other negative reviews of this place that say they are not accommodating of children) so perhaps this is the reason for the unwelcome reception.I was forced to play bar maid all evening having to pass drinks from the bar to the table.The food was ok! Although I will say that even if the service had been better I wouldn’t rush back for the food alone.As the 1.5 time limit on the table was nearing we had staff coming nearby the table, making eye contact and tapping on their watch to remind us of the time. We stated we had 12 minutes left but were told they also needed to clear the table in that time so we upped and left.It is also worth pointing out and mentioning that at least half the tables at the restaurant remained empty during our strict 1.5 hour time limit there.We didn’t receive hot towels or chocolates - I don’t even feel like my curry experience is complete without either of these!It goes without saying we will not be returning!

It’s a shame there isn’t a 0 star option...Rude, rude, rude! Had a table booked since Tuesday 26th, for 6 people.Arrived on the day of booking (today - Saturday 30th) to be told “we haven’t been accepting quando bookings” - even though we had a confirmation.We were reluctantly put into the back end of the restaurant with a 1.5 hour time limit, the other side of the bar, and the service got worse from then.My wife was basically a bar tender, with drinks passed over the bar for her to distribute.Food was ok.At 19:18 (12 minutes before our “time limit”) we had the manager standing above us, tapping his watch? Then later denying he was rude about it.Arrogant, rude, horrendous, the list could go on. Seemingly a relatively good place for dining in the area, but one id seriously reconsider booking, if you are looking for good service and polite staff.

This was my first visit to The Raj for a long while and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent and the service was good. All dishes are reasonably priced. It was busy and many were clearly repeat customers. I will definitely revisit the Raj soon.

Went to the Raj after a gig at the Brentwood Centre based on Trip Advisor reviews. It's not the food was poor, nor the service, which was very brisk, I think they wanted to serve the party of locals that had come in lol. Its just that over the last ten years Indian / Bangladesh food in the UK has changed and developed so much, at The Raj the only thing that has kept pace is the prices. As I said if you fancy a bog standard Ruby to finish a night out then fine it's good enough but there must be better curry restaurants in Brentwood.

Our favourite local Indian restaurant. Always a friendly welcome, food is good and great service. The only reason they didn't get five stars is because the last time we went the poppadoms were a bit stale, but they're not normally!

Can't believe I chose this restaurant because it had nice lights!!! Well of course I did look at the reviews first! But going out for an Indian meal in Brentwood for the first time and had no recommendations so had no clue as to which restaurant to choose! However, I was not disappointed. A little smaller than I expected, but it felt cosy and warm. Nice water feature in here too, reminded me of my absolute favourite Indian restaurant Headley Spice in Warley Brentwood, very sadly no longer there! Sold up to Felix fish restaurant! Anyway, food was good, service good too, nothing to complain about! Just good for your average night out when you fancy delicious Indian food.

Spent a nice evening at the raj was greeted by a friendly team it was busy so as we had not booked they sent to the local pub until the table was ready which was nice. When we returned table was waiting and served quickly food was excellent and service was great and friendly will certainly make it our regular

Me and my girlfriend decided to go in indian restaurant....but we were confused that we didn't find the best restaurant... I called my friend tom, he told me about the raj....time was approximately 7.15 pm...A gentleman gave us a nice table. My girlfriend had butter chicken and i ordered garlic chicken tikka chilli mossalla for my self.. Both of were fantastic when we enjoyed to eat....we naver forget there hospitality.. Thanks to the raj.....

One of my favourites long paragraphs not needed favourite in brentwood always will be loyal to the raj.

If the kitchen, which the paying customer doesn’t get to see, is half as filthy as the toilets which the paying customer can see then there is a massive hygiene issue. Staff were ok, food was fine but will never go back and would recommend against anyone else doing so. An inspection from the relevant local authority department might be in order. Disgusting. Photos of sink and soap dish attached which proves that they haven’t been cleaned in months. Absolute disgrace.

Four of us pre-ordered the Kursi Lamb and it was fabulous. There was so much to eat we probably could have had two other people with us. The lamb on the bone was so tender and tasty, this was complemented with Keema Peas, lovely rice, Indian mash potato a nice masala sauce. The presentation of the lamb was superb, on a bed of rice and salad, with hard boiled eggs. This really was excellent, we will 100% be pre-ordering again, ideally a few days before as the longer the lamb is cooked the more tender and tasty it becomes. Just to warn, this dish is not available to pre-order at weekends which is perfectly understandable due to the kitchen being too busy. The Kursi Lamb was £74.95, such good value between the four of us. I cannot praise this highly enough. Many thanks to everyone involved in the preparation of this meal.

Meeting the latest member of the family a baby girl we needed to find a good local Indian and that’s exactly what we found at The Raj in Brentwood. Great food & service local to the Premier Inn Brentwood opposite the railway station. Fantastic we will definitely return.

We stayed in Brentwood just down the road from the restaurant and to be fair the food was soo good we were more than happy with the overall experience we had there worth every penny will be returning when we go back to essex

Went Sunday 07/01/2018 just after opening at 6.00pm, ordered drinks with papadums then ordered main course, which when finally served the two side dishes rice and saag paneer were cold sent back while waiting our main courses were getting cold when side dishes were returned told it was because they had not switched on heaters in kitchen!!!! We were not even offered any form of real apology i.e. complimentary drinks, we will not return

While visiting Brentwood for one night, we decided to eat out. While there weren't many eat-in restaurants to choose from,...

I told my boyfriend I did NOT like curries and he took me here anyway. Turned out I was wrong!!! I had a Malaysian lamp curry and absolutely loved it. Had a bite from all the dishes on the table, they were all great. There is a lot of choice on the menu and the papadums for starters are really good. Already came back here three times and there will be many more to come.

Arrived here having seen a review from this website. The food is great. Freshly produced curries, great value for money and just right portions. We shared a rice and one was just ample between us along with twoGreat curries. The butter chicken was really authentic.Highly recommended and will be returning!

I have been eating curries from the Raj for over 8 years both eating in and take away I have always found, the service quality and freshness and delicious flavours within a variety of their curries to be consistently top quality!!! I now live some distance away and have tried many other Indian restaurants in my locality and Brentwood and have not found anywhere even close to the amazing curries I have tasted within the Raj and I shall continue to travel to experience both Take always and eating in the restaurant....you can always rely on a fresh flavoursome curry with great service to boot!!

Had a Thursday night evening meal here and this restaurant never fails to impress. It was quite busy considering it was a weekday, but the food and service was excellent as always. Can particularly recommend the Chick Pea Puree starter, which is lovely and also the house wine is such good quality that I normally stick with that, if only having a glass or two. The staff make you feel so welcome and I it is hard to find fault. I am happy to travel to this restaurant and it is always worth it.

An unassuming yet very well located restaurant. Upon entering and requesting a table that we hadn't booked we were accommodated and seated within minutes. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and inviting. And the staff are all incredibly polite and attentive. I was very impressed by the service we received. Food was fabulous and plentiful. The menu offers a great deal of choice without being swamped. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Came here because it was the best ranked curry house near the premier inn. Very good service, food was very tasty, well presented, price was very reasonable, so couldn't fault it. The only reason for not giving a 5 is because I reserve my 5's for a meal that blows me away, this one didn't quite do that... But all in all very good.

One of best Indian restaurants I've ever been to. My fave is chicken Tikka Massala!And also atmosphere - quiet, nothing is too much trouble for those guys!

Have visited many Indian restaurants in Brentwood and can honestly say this is one of the best. We went on a Tuesday night expecting it to be fairly quiet yet it was very busy..steady stream of customers coming in for takeaways and the restaurant was full. Good attentive service..great food..good value...well worth a visit...we will Definately be going back.

I am an avid lover of indian food. I've tried indian in many countries and for some reason everything indian just tastes different and sub par in England.I always eat the same menu and try out the foods of my dining partners. My typical indian menu is:Vegetable SamosaChicken Tikka MasalaPlain NaanMango LassiSome kind of indian beerThe vegetable samosa is small here and the sauce for it isn't as pronounced as in other restaurants.The chicken tikka masala was sweet, which was quite unusual.There was no Mango Lassi. That was very strange and sad.The naan was a bit too puffy.Now the interesting thing is that we went to the Juboraj a different day which is up the same street and it was almost entirely the same. Maybe it's the same owner or maybe all indian food tastes the same in England. Either way we were not content.The service was good.

Visited this place in the month of november with office team and found the place to be really good .The food was good and ambience was very comforting.Have ordered sag paneer and naan and sabji was quiet spicy suiting to my taste

I'm not a massive fan of Indian food. Really need to fancy it. Definitely chose the right place to go. The food was divine. Without doubt would go again. Venue is quite small and the tables are quite closely packed so prob not a romantic venue but lovely none the less. Have a booze licence so can drink. Never used the loos whilst there (was all over them after obviously!) so can't really let u know what they were like. Would deffo go again..... flavours were lovely. Atmosphere was nice. All around.... place was a winner!

I love my Indian food, so I was really excited to try a London restaurant as I'd heard they have the best ones in the West...The Raj (although technically Essex) did NOT disappoint. The staff were so friendly and they went out of their way to ensure we were happy. The food was gorgeous and portions big - the restaurant spotless. Decor was slightly old fashioned but in my opinion that totally added to the charm. Every dish we had: the Shashlik Grill, the Tikka Masala, the Dhansak, the Garlic Chicken Tikka...was superb, completely unique, and flavourful. The Naan was fab and completely NON greasy. The house wine was lovely and got a nice generous glass. There was a lovely informal fun atmosphere - if you spilt a bit of curry on the tablecloth you didn't feel ashamed!

Well this is my second visit to this establishment, the food is wonderful and with generous portions, you wait quite a while for your order but i suspect that is because it is cooked from fresh. The outstanding dish......Chicken Tikka Garlic, best tikka meal i have ever had.

Not a lot to say other that the curry was tasteless and the toilets are in need of repair. My party of 4 were each disappointed with their dish.

Amazing service, 5* every time, fantastic food. Never had a bad meal. Staff are always welcoming, helpful and friendly. The boss always recommends the best dishes, remembers what we enjoy and always accommodates us even when's it's busy. No other Indian comes close to how good this one is.

Good food, tiny bit oily but tasted good. Service was prompt and price reasonable. I would definately come back to the restaurant although there are slightly better Indian restaurants in the area to try. This one is still worth the visit.

Visited The Raj last night with my daughter and two of her friends.On entering the restaurant I noticed how busy it was with every table occupied which shows how popular the restaurant is.Unfortunately the area inside is on the small side and I think they have crammed too many tables in.However the decor is pleasant.We all had papadoms which were crisp and four sauces delicious. We only had main courses .I had Chicken Tikka Masala which is a favourite of mine and I could not fault together with vegetable rice which was first class. The others on my table all had a varied course and all agreed that the food was delicious. Having washed the meal down with 3 bottles of wine we all agreed it was a good night out.

Having read the reviews I was keen to try The Raj, reserved a table for a Friday night and arrived a couple of minutes early. There was an empty table available but we were told to wait at the bar - although by wait at the bar this meant 'stand in the busy portering area by the food hatch'. After 20 minutes uncomfortable wait, dodging and jostling with the waiters, throughout which time the window table remained empty, we questioned the senior waiter as to when we could sit, he assured us no problem and offered to cover the first beers. Finally we were seated and assigned disappointingly unfriendly service from our waiter, naans that arrived cold, and which we had to send back, food that was more warm than hot, dishes with a lack of spice, fairly bland mild curries - such a shame. My impression of this restaurant remains that they are keen to cram in more guests than they could really cope with on a Friday night, over stretching themselves, leaving us disappointed and unlikely to return.

Fancied a curry and decided to give the Raj a try as it always looks busy when I go by.The service was very good from the moment I entered, without being overpowering.Ordered two mains and a few sides. The food wasn't as spicy as I like it, and I don't mean just 'chilli'. It have the usual mix of tastes and spices that you get.The vegetable samosas seemed to be filled almost entirely with potato, and the peshwari nan wasn't particularly sweet.I wouldn't go back, not that it was a bad experience, and of course I could ask them to add more spices now I've been there once.

Really really delicious food, very friendly staff and a nicely decorated restaurant. This is the best Indian i have had. The meat was so tender and the cheese nan and sag aloo was great too. I went for the lamb dansak and my girlfriend had garlic chicken and it was all amazing. Would definitely come back here if i visited Brentwood again

This is the best Indian restaurant in Brentwood by far, service is excellent. Enjoyed every visit, the food has always been excellent, and children are made very welcome.

I discovered this place after moving to Brentwood a couple of years ago and it's by far the best in town.I switched my favourite dish from the Lamb Madras to the Tandoori mixed grill but I've not had a bad dish since I've been going.It's a small place and the staff are very friendly. Only small problem I have is that they pour their soft drinks from a plastic bottle and it's often flat and warm. Stick to the beer and problem solved!

My family and I have visited the Raj many times since it first opened and we have always been impressed by the food and the friendliness of the staff.On a number of occasions they have taken time out to fully explain a dish and were it comes from, also during one visit they explained to one of the children how best to eat a very hot curry they had bravely ordered. I would recommend them to anyone.

Beautiful food! I had the lamb saag, partner had chicken tikka masala and they put together a very, very mild chicken dish for our toddler which went down very well :) staff were very friendly and when I realised a week later that I'd left my daughters coat in there I called and they said they'd been keeping it safe waiting for us to call or come back. Loved it.

Been here a few times it was introduced to me by a family member who has been coming for years , the food is excellent good service and worth a visit and will keep returning .

Probably the best Indian Restaurant in Brentwood! But that is my own personal opinion as the food and welcome are excellent. The Spinach Bhaji is simply delicious

I went here on a Friday night I felt like i walked in to the best curry house ever.I was seated very quickly and drinks and poppadoms came quick as well.I had a fantastic curry I never heard of it was garlic chili chicken tikka masala it was absolutely astonishing.Keep Up The Good Work
