Raj Mahal in Stevenage

First order they sent was completely wrong and then we asked for a reorder they said they were closing soon. Managed to eventually get them to send a new one in the end that turned up all smashed in the bag and all the contents everywhere. Saved some for the next day to reheat though and found plastic from some sort of packaging inside. Do not go to or order from here!!!

Found this little gem as it was available on 2 for 1 through Tastecard… Best. Onion. Bhajis. Ever. And everything else was top tier, too. Service was amazing despite being short staffed. Friendly. Attentive. Yummy. Will definitely be back!

Can’t even eat the food such a waste of money don’t order hygiene should be better with everything going on but apparently not

Two mouthfuls into our dish and we find hair in our food. After ringing straight away they tell us that they want the food back and then we will get a refund. We all was instantly disgusted by the hair anyway so we agreed that the delivery driver would come back and swap us back our money ( which didn't make sense and we generally feel like they had planned to "Re-sell" it to other customers. After waiting over 24 hours of constant ringing them being hung up on, screamed at by the manager, had insults thrown at our race we still have not received our money back and still have there disgusting, vile, foul grissely food bagged up stinkin my kitchen out. I litterally feel to hand out leaflets warning people away from this pathetic time wasting, money robbing business. BE WARNED PEOPLE. I 100% recommend spice rouge. We gave this place the benifit of the doubt because our favourite spice rouge was closed. What an absolute huge regret that was. Me and my sister were eating peices of bone, grissel and hair. So yourself the favour and do not go here.

(online order) They updated the just eat app to say "Out for delivery", I waited 30 minutes, they are 2 miles away. I called them to ask where the food was, they said that it isn't out for delivery and that just eat must had selected out for delivery not them, yeah right! I asked the guy to be honest with me, he said why would he lie, then he said he's cancelling the order and that I'm to call just eat then he put the phone down on me! Worst customer service is have ever received

Table was booked for 17.00 moved for 18.00 and then when I airved they inform me that Chef is stil not in the kitchen. I go to the different place.

I went in person to order a takeaway. Spent over £40 even with their promotion. Waited over an hour for food to be prepared. Got home. All of the different curries that I ordered looked bright red and tasted the same. Mixed grill was a joke. No King Prawns included, as per the menu. Food tins Were half full with minimal amount of meat. We were promised some free beers with the food, for our inconvenience, as we waited so long. Subsequently, no beers included. Total rip off........NEVER AGAIN

Evening meal, had the usual poppadoms and pickles to start followed by a lamb tikka biriyani with peshawari naan. Excellent quality food and good prices.

Went to this lovely restaurant for an evening meal once again. Service was good , staff very friendly, not rushed, food was excellent , would definitely reccomend this restaurant And added bonus still 50% off food Mon Tue Wed through September. Well with a visit

On arrival to Raj Mahal Stevenage Old Town,we felt very welcomed by the friendly staff with their customer care. Food was Excellent and worth the wait ,Chicken Tikka starter was very good and the Peshwari naan was light in texture and excellent . Mains of vegetable Kurma and also Chicken Kurma are the best I have tasted in Stevenage, the same with the lemon rice and mushroom rice .Would highly recommended to anyone in Stevenage and surrounding areas wanting a excellent Indian meal ,5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just had a delivery the food was disgusting it looked as if it had been reheated it was very greasy. The popadoms where stale . Called the restaurant to complain to the manager not available tried calling later and it was shut. They even put service charge on when they say delivery was free . Please stay away

We got here pretty late and found that most restaurants had closed for the night so were pretty lucky they served us. We were welcomed in regardless of the time and were given plenty of time to choose our meal. We went straight for mains, lamb bhuna, tarka dhal, chicken tikka jalfrezi, plain naan, pilau rice and lemon rice. The food was delicious and had some rich flavour to it, the lamb bhuna was exceptional, flavoursome and good portion sizes too. A hidden gem I’d say, give it a try in the little old town in Stevenage.

Have been coming here for a few years, curry has always been lovely, never had many people n there but it’s gone rapidly downhill. we went in October with 6 friends, they got some meals wrong - we waited ages for our drinks - just generally bad service. Went again last month - three of us - only two other people in there - waited 40 minutes for our mains - our drinks we had to ask twice for - my snide dish came out but not my mains then when it did arrive - tandoori mixed grill - it was burnt and my side dish was now cold. We saw the owner and told him we were not happy to pay the full price which he adjusted and apologised and said they would do better. Tonight we went we were the only ones there - half the restaurant was in darkness as the lights didn’t work - the heating wasn’t working so they had a small fan heater, it was freezing I sat with my coat on - another couple cans in and they also kept their coats on. Got the order wrong again - such a shame as we put up with the bad decor and few customers as the food was so nice but this is the last time we will visit

It's a carbon copy of any high street 'curry house' in the UK. Doesn't bear any resemblance to actual Indian food of course and is too focused on huge portions of brightly coloured food. Everything is average in every way. Shame really as it would be great to have a more authentic Indian style (I know that's a rather broad remit!) option in Stevenage. The success of the nice Thai place shows there's a appetite (pardon the pun) for decent restaurants so perhaps think about being different to the handful of other curry houses in the town and do something a bit special.

New to Stevenage & I love a takeaway curry so tried here. Okra raw and chewy, aubergine (brinjal) barely cooked either; it tasted as if both were briefly stirred into the identical bland sauce. Paneer dansak tasted of chilli only, naan bread tasted like a supermarket value brand. Maybe it was a bad night for them, maybe they were too busy, I dunno. What I do know is that Raj Mahal won’t be our regular Indian restaurant & we’ll never go there again. Lesson learnt.

this restaurant has gone down hill since the management and cook before, i used to love the old cook, the food taste the same what ever you order

Really quite disappointed with the food quality and the fact that they do not give mint sauce with their onion bargees or kids meals. I only know this because they left out the naan bread & I also mentioned that we were 2 mint sauces missing, one with the chicken tikka kids meal & the other with the OB. When the driver turned up with the naan bread that was missed I asked about the mint sauce and they didn’t give him any!!! I mean really?? Mint sauce is a standard accompaniment to both onion barghee & chicken tikka!!! Food was lacking flavour and will not be ordering from here again!

Popped in randomly as it's next door to my favorite pub the red lion. Tasted fantastic and really good value for money. Very friendly staff. Had the lamb shank and it just melted in my mouth. Will definitely visit again.

Always a good curry and service. Small place so book in advance. House red wine nice too. See you soon.

My second time at the Raj Mahal, and although it can take a little while to arrive, it is worth the wait as the food is excellent and good value for money. The staff are very friendly and helpful, so overall had a very enjoyable experience.

My friend and I visited this restaurant expecting to have a lovely evening and an enjoyable meal...Instead we had a terrible experience. The restaurant was near enough empty and very cold. The waiters were not very pleasant and the service cold and unhelpful. The music was loud and the waiters sat around in the restaurant in a group, chatting to eachother while we dined, which was very unproffesional. The were also very curt and unhelpful - and when I made a request for a dip, they said that the chef couldn't make a dip nor did they have it (I know that all Indian restaurants offer a spicy dip). The food was a big let down...We saw the hygeine rating upon leaving the restaurant and to our shock but expectation due to the food served, the rating was a 3! The food was cold, congealed, bland, the meat was horrible and tough and what was advertised as lamb was actually very tough and tasteless mutton. The rice was oily and the naan tasteless. This restaurant should really be closed down and sorted out. I haven't ever been so shocked by the experience that we had at that restaurant. I highly recommend that you do not visit the Raj Mahal.

Ordered take away by phone. If you collect you get 10% off. Staff is friendly. The main restaurant is on the first floor. There is off street parking. Restaurant was busy. Food was ready at the time I ordered it for. Presentation is nice. Food was ok. Not bad but not that amazing either. We found it slightly on th band side. Price is very reasonable so in context it is very good but I rather pay a bit more for better quality.

Been using this curry house in the old town Stevenage for several years. Never lets me down staff always helpful and polite. Always enjoyed our meals there portion sizes very generous always take leftovers home. Food 10/10 staff 10/10. Can’t wait to visit again

Food was unimpressive and also, this restaurant only has a Hygiene Rating of 2. That's disgusting. Do you know how bad you have to be to have a rating like that?

I went here with a friend and was pleasantly surprised at the small friendly cosy restaurant. It had ample room between tables. The food was of good quality and tasty. It was also reasonably priced.

We, a group of 8, visited this place for dinner. As soon as we arrived there, the staff told us, we can only stay there if we order atleast one main each. We confirmed from him, "we should* or "we have to* . He said, we have to. This rule was only told to Indian looking crowd.

This is the first Indian restaurant i have visited since moving to Stevenage a few years ago. All four members of our party agreed that it was the tastiest Indian food we had experienced in quite some time. We went on a Tuesday and took advantage of the Gourmet meal deal which was good value.

Decided to pop in here due to the aroma whilst walking past. We shared a curry between us. The food was exceptional, the nan bread was the best I have ever tasted. Try this place it needs more support.

I live near Bradford, so I’m spoilt when it comes to good curry houses and unfortunately many in the south east of England disappoint as they’re bland (Brick Lane is the exception).

In a world where Indian dishes seem to be getting smaller the portion sizes at this place are Huge . Service is relaxed yet attentive. Mango lassie is again big and tasty . Food is of very good standard I would say easily the best I've had in Stevenage. Have been twice in last few weeks and another bonus is there not tight on the heater nice and warm up stairs . Well worth a visit

A top Indian, great find on the high street. Good portions and lovely rice with plenty of mushrooms. Nice service although waiting staff should ensure they are fresh and free from smelling of smoke. The restaurant was busy but not so noisy and food served in good time. We would return again

Went there for a meal just me & my wife but ended up leaving after about 1 hr 30mins as were still waiting for our main meal! Asked 3 times how long the meal would be the only answer we got was that they were very busy! No apologies very bad customer service & they were very rude! Lots of other customers seemed to be having the same problem! If you can’t cope with the amount of people in the restaurant tell customers there will be a long wait for food or get more staff! Will not be going back!!

Not the easiest place to find the entrance as it’s down an alley but it’s well worth it. The staff are friendly and the food is excellent. They also taken American Express which is handy. The opening times are confusing online so here are the correct times. Monday to Thursday 1800-2330hrs. Friday and Saturday 1800-midnight. Sunday 1300hrs to 2200 hrs. We had onion bhajis 3 to a portion. They were very good. I had chicken Byriani which was great although they have cashew nuts in it which I am not a fan of. My wife had chicken tikka main. All seemed fresh and tasted lovely and a very reasonable £31 for both of us with drinks.

Great food. Great service. No complaints at all. Haven't been to a better Indian restaurant and competition is high.

Visited after reading reviews. Friendly waiter, food was superb, full of flavour and very tasty. Chicken was high quality. Just had a main course but was very filling. Very enjoyable evening and thank you for the complimentary alcohol.

Found this place on trip advisor after a truly horrible afternoon watching our football team get hammered by the local side in FA Cup.

Our family of 4 visited this restaurant based on the trip advisor reviews. Amongst our party were 2 meat eaters and 2 vegetarians. There was plenty to choose from and the portions are large and tasty. Our only issue was the service was very slow

Visited Saturday night, nice and cosy resturant makes for a great atmoshere. The food was delicious the staff offered an excellent service, we had a really good night here and would definately return

Hi there I had just visited last evening on Saturday with the lads. It was a super atmosphere there, spur of the moment and was a very good choice. I had the house best Manchurian chicken one of the very popular dish. Really a flavoured and fairly hot curry. Overall the food was lovely and amazing. Would highly recommend to others and the manager and stuff were really lovely and friendly too. Should come back again.

I came with my family on a Saturday afternoon when it was very busy and had the best customer service from staffs and the food had a very authentic taste which was very delicious! Definitely would come back here again and would recommend this place!

I work in the local theatre and we always come here for many meals with Touring shows and in house productions. anyone who asks where is good to eat are sure to be told to come to the Raj Mahal!!

I came here last Friday with my partner and had the shammi Kebab as starter with the chicken Jalfrazi as a main. Both were superb, the chicken was tender with just the right amount of spice and the staff were welcoming and great hosts.

Excusite food, absolutely scrumptious. Service is excellent with great attention to detail and staff and management are very friendly. Don't be deterred by the off-street location. Came back 2 days in a row. We are of Indian decent and have travelled the world. This is as good as any I have been to. Don't walk past if in Stevenage.

As I was working and staying local I went for a walk around the Old Town of Stevenage can across this restaurant which is slight hidden from the main high street.

Delicious food and great service. We had chicken pakora and onion bhajis to start and they were lovely. Then I had Korai Ckicken Tikka and my daughter had Chicken Tikka Masala. Both of these were gorgeous and had just the right amount of spice. Fantastic food. Thank you.

A friend took us here as we wanted something to eat but didn't want the normal large and loud,steak house or Chinese all you can eat with the get them In and out as fast as we can type of restaurants, I have to say this was just what we were looking for, tucked away from the high street this little curry house is great the food was cooked perfectly and plenty of it too, the staff were very helpful in guiding us through the menu, this how now become our favourite local Indian restaurant

Lovely well cooked meal. Staff really helpful with advise on menu and what to choose. Nice atmosphere. Although restaurant busy, no rush with time between courses if needed. Would definitely recommend and will take friends back next time we are in the are. Well priced.
