Rainbow Chinese in Derry

My family had a night out, 13 of us went to Rainbow. The young girl who took the order done her best but there were too many extra sides and 2 main meals too many. It was the next day I realised that I had been seriously over charged for mains and sides that we didn't order. I called in to the restaurant when it was quiet and approached staff to discuss the order (in a pleasant appraoch) and was quite rudely told by a middle aged female member of staff that the extra food was left on the table and so it must be paid for. My wife ordered an extra "portion of chicken" which they charged us for "a chicken curry with no veg or curry sauce" (most expensive side I've ever paid for), they also brought out an extra chicken fried rice main meal which nobody ordered and supposedly left it on the table. I explained that we ordered 8 main adult meals and there were 10 main meals on the order. The lady was dismissive and rude and basically told me that the food order on the reciept was provided and she fully supported that the "extra portion of dry chicken" was okay to be charged as "A chicken Curry with no Veg or curry sauce" (shocking) . There was also extra portions of chips and 2 extra portions of curry to the table that we didn't order which they kindly added to my bill.. there was loads of extra food left (that we didn't order).. The ladies attitude was terrible and after getting nowhere talking I said that I will not be back and she replied smartly "OKAY - BYE".. As for the food, it was greasy as hell. the floor was slippy with grease. Lesson learned - Neither me or my family will ever step foot in the place again. As for the owners, have a word with the staff about customer service, maybe teach the older lady member of staff some customer care. Advice - stand clear.

Ordered food from here last night as we were staying in Sheriff mountain lodge in Derry and the food was absolutely delicious and the portions were huge, we had ordered food for 5 people and could easily have fed 7/8 people, from the chicken and beef dishes to the rice and noodles nothing could be faulted- we will definitely be back next time we are in Derry.

Very nice place to visit for the first time, nice place staff very pleasant and helpful the food was very nice

I had spring rolls for the starter and chicken satay for the main course. It was a lovely dinner. The place is a hidden gem.

Very Tasty Dinner, sweet and sour pork, Beef and Blackbean. Decent sized portions. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Opens at 4pm so ideal for a teatime meal. They will oblige with a particular meal if required. The staff seem helpful and friendly. The music being played was unsuitable for children (bad language).

My wife stopped in for a late afternoon meal and were seated quickly as we were the only people dining in. The menu had a variety of typical Chinese meals and side dishes to choose from in addition to a fixed price 3 or 4 course meal. We first ordered a bowl of Hot & Sour soup which was a perfect fit for this cold and rainy day and was delicious. We also ordered a plate of spring rolls which were about twice as large as a normal roll. I had the Kung Po Chicken with which was made in a non traditional way, yet delicious and came with a large bowl of fried rice. My wife ordered the prawns, however she was served fried calamari by mistake. She ate it anyway and thought it was very tasty. We thought it was strange to be served chips with our meal with rap and hip hop music playing in the background, but then again we are in the UK. The service was friendly and attentive and the prices were reasonable as they provided a generous amount of food. I would not hesitate to come back here again.

Slow service from start to finish young girl working didnt want to be bothered. Ordered food which was nice we where looking something else and she just walked off husband threw the head up left his meal paid bill and worked out leaving all the food what a waste better service needed

Tried this Chinese as close to my accommodation and good reviews. Pleasant area to sit upstairs and watch the street below. Friendly staff. Good value food as I had the 3 course set meal which is choice of starter, main & rice, tea/coffee for £11.95. 2 spring rolls are huge, my main of beef with peppers in black bean sauce was large as was rice for 1 person. Not refined Chinese food but great value, tasty meal.

Wouldn't eat Chinese food from anywhere else! Nicest so far! Salt and chilli chicken, beef and black bean, chicken fried rice some of my favourites

I've been here now 4 times I think it's better than most Chinese restaurants in Derry it's now moved to Foyle street The service is quick and friendly food is excellent at The take away service is fast aswell

On a visit to Derry we had no idea where to eat, we read a few local guides on good places to eat but stumbled across this hidden restaurant and what a treat. First impressions, it was very clean and modern. I'll be honest as we walked up the stairs it was obvious it was a popular take away but nobody was seated for a meal. Felt a little awkward asking for a table, I think we even surprised the staff at first but for a Friday night take away was clearly the local choice. We were invited to choose a table. Offered a welcoming hand towel which was refreshing and soon presented with menus and asked if we wanted drinks. 3 courses for £11 or £12 was our choice, 3rd course being coffee. At first we thought it may have been a mistake as my husband and I were fairly hungry and wanted to have a good meal. Well we didn't need to worry, the starters were a good size but the mains were even too much for both of us. Although a slightly limited choice of dishes, this was one of the nicest and tastiest Chinese we have had in a while. Lovely flavours and portions, more than enough, we could eat it all. Staff very friendly, didn't bother us but made sure we were looked after. A small thing but not often offered, a jug of water was offered as well as our alcohol so no pressure to keep drinking in between courses. Well worth trying if I'm the area.

We actually got a take away and for very little expense we were all full up with food over. Would highly recommend

Lovely restaurant great food.The staff were pleasant and efficient. Very good value for money.I would definitely go back .They also do early bird menu.

Salt and chilli chicken starter was great and portions are big . The outside of the restaurant didn't look the best but inside was good , staff were great and price was average

this is a very late review but have meant to leave it on a few occassions. My wife and i went in during the run up to Christmas after it was highly recommended by members of my family.

Amazing Chinese, so much better than a very popular over rated Chinese also in Derry. Very fresh and flavoursome, with friendly staff. Will definitely be back

I got takeaway from here for some sustenance before the Halloween parade and fireworks. Reasonable prices and large portions. A bonus was that the beef with ginger and broccoli had fresh slivers of ginger in it, which gave it a nice extra bite. Convenient location right up a set of stairs off Foyle St.

The best Chinese food in the city, Highly recommend staff are great food amazing great value for the money

Unbelievable Chinese, moved in to our new house in Stoneypath and was highly recommended this Chinese, WOW!!! what can I say 5 star rating from me, food, service, and customer service, super fast delivery and I highly recommend the chicken curry, and chicken pepper and black bean, thank god for a very good Chinese in derry

Such a hidden gem. Whilst in Derry for shopping & kids were hungry( admittedly it was after 7!!) we asked a passerby if they knew of any Chinese restaurants. They recommended Rainbow chinese. So off we dandered down the street. It is upstairs but inside is nicely decorated. Staff were really helpful especially in choosing the right amount of food for us & 3 kids. We ended up with evening menu 4 course for 2 people. There was plenty of food for us all. It was really tasty including homemade desserts. We were the only ones in the restaurant but that certainly didn't detract from such a pleasant evening. Definitely would recommend & next time in Derry we'll b back !

I have ordered from the takeaway and also had a sit-in meal here at the restaurant and it was brilliant. The food is amazing, the restaurant is Morden and the staff are attentive. Would definitely order from here again !
