Where to start, we were seated at our pre booked table and left for 15 minutes before someone asked if we would like drinks. It was then that we were told of a 10 minute delay before we could place a food order, (they obviously had a staffing issue by now). I ordered scallops on a bed of spring onion mash with cheese as a starter, but what I received was one scallop sliced in two with mash and cremated cheese. In my book 'scallops' in the plural constitutes more than one! - surely a trading standards issue My main course of sea bass fillets was a joke, again massively overcooked, two slightly thicker than a razor blade fillets of fish that amounted to three maybe four forks of meat each. It has to be said that my companions meals were fine. When I confronted the rather young manageress she agreed to remove my meal from the bill. We used to enjoy coming to this pub but we won't be rushing back, sadly. I'm all for helping out the hospitality industry in these times of purse string tightening but don't rip me off.

Absolutely lovely evening celebrating a family Birthday. The food was excellent the atmosphere was relaxing friendly and perfect for a family meal out. The service was exceptional. The dining area was very busy but Martha our waitress was calm attentive and very personable. Be warned: my experience at this establishment last Sunday was nothing short of a culinary disaster. I had been looking forward to a hearty roast dinner, but when my meal arrived, it was a complete letdown. The vegetables were cold, the gravy resembled water, and the promised roasted apple and crackling were conspicuously absent. The pièce de résistance, a piece of belly pork, was disappointingly tiny—smaller than my car key, in fact. It was truly a far cry from the expected roast dinner. After expressing my displeasure to the lady behind the bar, she acknowledged that the meal fell short of their usual standards and graciously took it back, promising a refund. However, when I checked back 20 minutes later to receive my money, I was informed that the refund would take 24 hours to process. A bit perplexed, but willing to wait, I thought it was reasonable enough. Fast forward four days, and I found myself still waiting for that refund to materialize. I have called the pub numerous times, only to be met with a voicemail that allows me to leave my name and number for a callback that has yet to happen. Where is my refund? It’s frustrating and disappointing to feel ignored in this situation, and I'm left wondering if I will ever see my money again. If you value your hard-earned cash and expect decent service, consider this a cautionary tale about dining here.

I recently visited the Priory at Portbury, and unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. The staff seemed uninterested and were not welcoming, which set a poor tone for the visit. Additionally, the food served at the restaurant was underwhelming, The menu described the Roast belly pork with Crackling and Roasted Apple, neither of which were on the plate. A plate full of under-cooked cold vegetables was accompanied by the smallest piece of pork that I had originally mistaken for a small roast potato. The gravy had the viscosity of water. Other members of our family party had Sea Bass and it was “Good” with no complaint. but the roast was a complete waste of money. The staff didn’t seem to care about this and offered one of our party a refund but took the meal back leaving him with a packet of crisps. The overall ambiance felt neglected and not up to the standards one would expect for the price. I would not recommend the Priory at Portbury and suggest looking for alternatives in the area.

Food was decent, steak in the burger was a bit too well done. However the wait staff was dreadful. The utter attitude when the restaurant didn’t have half the drinks we wanted, and then we had to re-decide what we wanted. Because of this no tip was left which the waiter (will) made some rude remarks under his breath! And then had the audacity after such poor service to expect a tip and made an ordeal about it! When leaving he very sarcastically said “bye”. Utter shame of an employee.

Food was good witch is the one positive I’ll take away from my vist to the priory! The service was awful and the manger even worst! We booked a table a long time in advance we wanted to sit in the garden but manager clearly didn’t want us to turned out a nice sunny day but the manager was adamant that it was going to rain and they couldn’t keep our table for us if it did even though we pre booked! Very unwilling to work with us was her way or the highway very off putting and don’t think I’d bother going back again shame really because we always had good reports for other branches of the chain would 100% have preferred to drive the extra 15 miles ish to go to the globe same food if not better fair better service one of our party got so thirsty they had to go to the car to get a drink ! Completely unacceptable for the price you pay for food and drinks… Wondering how long the owners going to keep shrugging off the same reviews with out doing anything about it shame really places has great potential but I’m sure it’ll slowly die out !

The Priory is a massive missed opportunity. By far the best food, decor and building of all the local pubs, but ruined by uniformly slow and surly service. The service briefly improved after a post-pandemic refurbishment, but is now back to a poor standard. The impression we get is that the staff are poorly trained and managed.

Based on this review/visit alone. I've been invited here previously for a couple of PR visits, and the food and service have been excellent. However, my last visit was a complete contrast. Unfortunately, it was probably the worst roast I've ever had (and again, a complete contrast to the one I had here last year) It was very bland, cold, partyly cooked veg and just way below average. I've had a better toby carvery!! My wife's lamb rack was mostly fat, and they completely forgot the roast potatoes on two dishes. They were most like partly cooked new potatoes, nothing roasty about them. To top it off, the service was shocking and unprofessional. Imagine a waiter who shruggs their sholuders when they didn't have mint sauce for the lamb when asked, didn't bother to let us know that they had run out of flapjacks which accompanied the coffees, (another eye roll when asked where they were) and got our drinks wrong... When it came to paying, we didn't tip for obvious reasons. The waiting rolled his eyes again, offered a sarky comment, and even slammed my receipt down before turning away and walking off, not even a thank you. The table next door was complaining as they had brought out two of four dishes and then gave the other two to another table. The original two dishes had to be returned. There was also a large table in the private cove area who were massively unhappy, too. It's such a shame.

Came here hungry for some food and a drink with family after a weekend bluebell walk in Priors wood. Spent a while at the bar in earshot of staff deciding on which small plates to order and share. At point of ordering was told there were no small plates or any other food available, including no bar snacks, crisps, nuts etc. the staff member seemed stressed, unhappy, unhelpful, not bothered, just said it was busy with walkers and had run out. Left and went somewhere much nicer and helpful nearby.

The worst lunch I’ve eaten in a long time!! A tasteless unseasoned chicken and avocado salad Serves without a dressing When the dressing arrived it was sugar water … 3 tiny slithers of avocado and 2 strips of unfresh burnt bacon It was over chilled and unfresh I seriously think that if a salad is that difficult to produce then this chef really wasn’t trying I left most of it because of the awful dressing Sadly I felt that I couldn’t complain because I wasn’t being treated to lunch by a friend … the waitress didn’t ask why I’d barely touched it which is always a bad sign ☹️

Just been for Mother’s Day meal, 6 people at £30.50 each set menu, 2 starters of mushrooms and soup of the day were off the menu as they had run out, mains had run out of beef and pork Sunday lunch, in our party we had 2 non meat eaters we were told there was only one fish dish left and the other was a aubergine dish which was very bland as it tasted like soggy vegetables in a tomato sauce (this was not eaten) 5 of our main meals came out and the fish dish came out 10 minutes later??? I felt very sorry for the waiter as he had to keep saying “sorry” I do believe that if you reserve a table (as everyone we spoke to had to do) then there should have been enough food to cover. Very disappointed. Disappointed with reply from owner, not sure why if meat and fish dishes on main menu are not available you didn’t reduce set menu price when taking our money

No apology for not telling us of items not on the menu on our arrival , no apology for not attending to our table . Food was ok . Poor showing from the Priory. Decided to take advantage of their food vouchers for January. Food quality was excellent as always but the service just wasn’t on par. Friendly enough staff but we felt like we were waiting too long once finished and being ignored. Long wait to clear the table. Staff walking past and not attending the table, no-one asked how the food was or if any further drinks were needed. After another wait we were given desert menus but then proceeded to serve tables around us and again revert back to ignoring us. Some tables had been served food before we had be asked for ours: started to grate on us considering the restaurant was empty when we arrived. We decided to leave without any deserts or further drinks and opted to finish off the Christmas cake back home. The restaurant wasn’t busy but the basic cycle of service was missing with limited interaction. Happy to go elsewhere and leave in a good mood. Such a shame.
