We visited The Prince of India for a weekday evening meal whilst on holiday to Peebles with our young daughter. We were seated opposite the bar and promptly given the menu. Drink orders were taken and delivered fast and once we ordered our food the service was snappy there too. Unfortunately as we began our meal we started to feel very uncomfortable, the waiter stood Infront of The bar watching us, at first we thought it was just to make we were enjoying everything but slowly we realised we were being closely monitored. In fact it became very obvious when the waiter had to run out for an errand and got the chef to take his place beside the bar monitoring us. We thought it to be rather over the top behaviour considering the fact there was a CCTV camera also pointing at us the entire time. Altogether very off-putting and we really didn't relax to enjoy the meal, which was not too bad but on the next downside we found it to be very overpriced for the portion sizes and quality. The meal for 2 adults sharing with a little one came to 75 pounds, and that included the cola and large beer. It was quite an eye watering price just for an informal weekday meal out, and we left feeling quite sorry that we had chosen to eat there as we were basically treated like criminals and had to pay through the nose for the privilege, definitely would not return and we were actually kicking ourselves that we didn't go to Francos Italian just a few doors down.

Sneaky overpring for very average food. When we ordered soft drinks, we expected standard bottles or cans were given pints of cola and lemonade and charged £5.50 for each. one starter, one main course, single naan, a japati, popodams and rice came to £64. On paying the bill an extra 10% service charge was added " when I questioned this and asked where on the menu it said this I was told this is standard. !!!! I was then told cash only as card machine not working. ( probably don't like paying merchant fees) I said I don't have cash and suddenly card machine was working again. Would never go back again as I felt totally ripped off.

I’ve been here previously when visiting the area so thought I’d stop again. Didn’t need to book as it was a week night and quiet. We were one of two couples. Menus given and drinks order taken. We asked for diet cokes and were surprised to receive pints of coke mmmm £4.90 each. We would have been happy with half pints but weren’t given that option. The popadoms and pickle tray was lacking the mint sauce pot. Only three pots: onions, chutney and pickle. We don’t eat the pickle so wasted on us and that left us with some runny chutney and onions that looked old. On to mains. The chicken tikka main was about 5 cubes of chicken for about £16 on a sizzler plate. The Rougan Josh was bland and the texture was bity. Just not great all round. The male toilets are downstairs and are not pleasant compared to most restaurants and don’t touch the hand rail on the way down as it’s sticky and not clean.

The restaurant itself was lovely and the staff very friendly but…….that’s where it ends. We have experienced Indian cuisine in many places in the uk from Cornwall to Birmingham and in between for many years. This was ludicrously overpriced and the portions were very small. We had king prawn dansak, king prawn jalfrezi and tarka Dahl (couple of spoonfuls) and pilau rice. The rice tasted stale, as if it had been left over from a few days before and reheated. The dansak had a tinned pineapple ring in it! The flavours didn’t reflect the prices. Underwhelmed and not recommended.

We are from the US and make frequent visits to the UK. When in a small town where we do not know where to eat, we have always defaulted to the Indian Food on High Street. Our one visit and we found traditional food that was average but not great. Shrimp dish was sizable but no tastes impressed me as they oftern do. A perfectly okay meal but not exceptional. Service was good.

Initially thought it was nice, table at the back window, authentic decor etc. Had a bottle of overpriced Cobra each, 2 poppadoms each with bland accompaniments. Ordered chicken chat and prawn puri to start & after that we were stuffed so asked for the bill. The very rude man said we had to go to the till to pay & when we got there he started lecturing us on how we should have had a main course, we misled him, you cant just have starters??? How rude. We were full & had no room for mains, it's surely our choice? Anyway he slapped a £3.50 service charge on the bill taking it to £35, he continued to have a go at us - so I informed him we would never be back & he needs to brush up on his customer service skills. Rude rude man. He should have been grateful cos the place was empty on a Thursday night, can't think why. Avoid.

I've eaten here twice now and really enjoyed the food the second time around. Everything we ate was fresh and very tasty. The atmosphere is lacking as there have only been a few other diners while I've been there. My visits have been out of season, which may explain it. I refused the 10% service charge the first time but accepted it the second. Remember, you don't have to pay it!

I can honestly say one of the worst Indians I have had. The food was well below regular high street standard. Extortionate prices for the tiniest portion. They advertise a tandoori mixed grill online with all the trimmings, going into the shop to order they say it’s all paid seperate. The mixed grill had a horrible dry bit of boned chicken and a tiny piece of the rest. And the Naan, if you could call it that, was so small it was almost not worth having. For the cost and quality. Avoid Service wasn’t that great either and we were taking away!!!

Very mediocre…decor is very dated and was obviously very nice back in the day, could do with modernizing! Service very average and food absolutely nothing to write home about at all! Meat not marinaded, wished we’d got a take away from Shukria just around the corner! Watch out for the service charge that gets slapped on the bill which, if anybody does that to us, I request for it to be taken off! I’ll tip depending on service level not because you feel like adding another £10 onto already very overpriced food! I pay good money for good food, not good money for poor quality food! Won’t be returning, not a great experience for us!

I ordered a £35 order of King prawn biriyani, sag dall & vegetables. The prawns were rubbery and had very little taste and neither did the rice or sauces. I then stupidly ordered again from them this evening. Chicken pakora (which I don't actually like and meant to order vegetable pakora, but that was my mistake, so decided to eat it anyway as I'd paid for it and didn't want to have to call again to complain). The batter was soft not crispy as you would expect the batter to be. The chicken was as dry as old leather boots and completely tasteless. The salad tub had very little salad in it and the cucumber did not taste very fresh and had a funny taste. The sauce with the pakora was about 4 teaspoons in the tub and hardly enough to feed a pigeon. The garlic nan was also not dry cooked enough and was very pale and doughie & like cardboard round the edges I could hardly bite a mouthful from the bread as it was like eating cardboard. I'm so disappointed in the whole 2 orders costing in total £50 and a complete waste of money and will never order from them again in the future as the last 3 previous times I've ordered, there have been issues with the orders being wrong when they arrived. I gave them so many chances to get the food orders right and to provide me with food that has taste, texture and fresh tasting food and they just don't come up to par with other Indian cuisine I've ordered from other places in the past and being the only restaurant on just eat where I live; next time I will drive to the next village to a more reputable Indian restaurant who can cook Indian food authentically. I don't know how this restaurant survives as I've had so many issues I'm surprised they are even still in business. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant if you are looking for well cooked authentic and tasty Indian cuisine as it doesn't come up to standard and is the worst I have ever tasted.

Quite the worst meal I’ve had for some years. Was celebrating a new job with a takeaway, and was so totally disappointed- both meals were filled with half cooked cauliflower and cabbage, watery sauce that seared my tastebuds. I usually support local business but this was something else. Phoned to let them know and they could not have cared less. Don’t bother unless you like getting ripped off. Shukria in the old town is 400% better.

We eat Indian food regularly. We shared a starter of pakora which was plenty for the both of us. We each had a different main course. Both were great. Will certainly be back next time we are in Peebles. Certainly social distancing when we were there

The food is the best Indian food I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a few! Fresh and delicious and reasonably priced. The waiting staff are a little reserved but it was outweighed by the quality of the food. We were served in good time. No desserts on offer though.

Firstly, have to commend the owner/manager who fitted us in with little notice when everywhere else was booked up. He was friendly and helpful (although kept wandering off through taking order as clearly short staffed). The restaurant itself lacks atmosphere and soft furnishings to make it feel less like a large room in a converted house. Pickle tray and poppadoms average, and uninspiring. Mains ok, but short on meat for £9 for standard curries, rice ok but naans heavy and not great. If in Coldstream its ok for a visit or takeaway but certainly wouldn't travel.
