Fantastic evening at Zaika. We haven’t been since pre Covid and were so impressed. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We like our curries and this was the best we've had in a long time. The poppadoms and pakora were perfection. The nan bread so tasty and light, the curries full of flavour and delicious. very very reasonable prices, so much so we checked we hadn't been undercharged. I cannot recommend Zaika more highly, we’ll be back!

Have been here twice. The staff are friendly, helpful and most accommodating. The food experience was out of this world. The portions were elephant sufficiency and well presented. Great variety and every taste bud carefully catered to. Great family centred cuisine. Tasted like real authentic home cooked indian food.

Food was very, very bland. I ordered a curry with “fresh green chilli” in the ingredients expecting some heat, zing, nuttin’, jus’ a bland, tasteless sauce. Booker cash and carry frozen king prawns in the Tiger Prawn Puri (I was expecting nice fresh prawns in the shell) Not a lot of lamb in the curry, 4 large pieces and a wee piece. The keema nan was brilliant though AND the food came out hot, which is always good. Waitress was great, very good service, but she was let down by the kitchen :0( Place was cold too, the mobile heater was in reception. No heat in restaurant. Not a great experience.

Lovely food and reasonably priced only thing stopping the 5th star was the restaurant was cold. Appreciate the cost of heating but sitting eating with your coat until the spices heated you up is a bit much.

Late lunch, 4 pm. Since moving to the Borders last year, we've been searching for a good Indian restaurant. Usually, we end up going up to Dishoom in Edinburgh just for a good curry. Then today, we discovered Zaika Tandoori and finally we've found a local Indian restaurant we love. Food & service were fabulous. Thoroughly recommend

This is our go to when we want something a bit special The food is fresh and full of flavour Plenty of options on the menu Chicken Patia was tangy with a bit of heat - amazing!! You must try the coconut rice! Delivery driver really friendly and arrived early!

We went for the three course meal and it was superb, each dish was authentic. I took the plunge and went for a lamb jaipur, I wasn't disappointed I'm going back this week for more delicious tastes thank you just lovely.

Awesome food wverytime and a fab atmosphere

Really great food, all fresh and made exactly how we asked for it. Couldn’t spit butter chicken on the menu but they made it up for me anyway. Have to say despite being really busy they managed to fit us in. Service was simply great and they kept us updated on when the food would be ready. Top!

We regularly use this restaurant for eat in and take away. Quality of take away is exactly same as in restaurant Gorgeous Indian food, lovely helpful staff, have never been disappointed

Service was poor had to ask numerous times for glasses of water and ice. The only time you saw any staff was when they were serving a table which took forever. It took 2 hours from ordering our meal to be served. Obviously take - away food was the priority. Very disappointing.

Disgusted ordered food 630 pm tonight hasnt even been made yet shouldnt take orders if your that busy ruined our night never mind blaming just eat either!!!!!

Ordered a takeaway early in the day to get the 6pm delivery slot as we had guests but the food didnt arrive untill 6.55pm which isnt the best service, the food was great as always maybe could have been hotter bjt still tasty

Am here now stater not hot enough as indoor heat awaiting main course but am not expecting anything mind blowing very disappointed after review s were good convincing frust vist don't think I'll be coming back got main course not impressed dont know where other people eat but it couldn't of been here definitely wouldn't recommend it .

I was in with my friend george tonight 14th october 2021 and the young lady and young man who served us were brilliant friendly nice youngsters.garlic mushrooms starter was superb.my prawn saag was amazing. All washed down with cobra zero beer and lime. Came all the way from hawick and again not dissapointed. My friend george said fantastic grub and hell yeah we will be back. Im trying 2 convince george to visit at least once a month.thank you zaika xx

Been to Zaika Galashiels a few times now. The staff are first class and provide a very very good service. ziaka is by far the best all round Indian restaurant we have ate in. The mixed grill is Delilah… Never left disappointed and all very worthy of 5 stars + review.

Lovely dishes, It's not always that you can actually see the individual ingredients and experience each flavour as they come together in your mouth. Good portion sizes and prompt service. Highly recommend. We will definitely see you again when we back up this end.

Very friendly, nice atmosphere and good food. Was as good as Balti in Birmingham! Large portions struggled to manage a starter, popidums and main course. All our meals were high quality. Nice to be able to bring our own beer. Handy to eat here before going to the cinema across the road.

Visited the best Indian restaurant in the area again tonight with friends from Edinburgh. The quality of the meal was excellent and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Our friends were also very impressed and thoroughly enjoy their meals. The restuarant was busy, a sign that the locals also believe it is good and keep returning. If your in the area, this is where to eat, you won’t be disappointed

We went to the Zaika Tandoori for a family birthday meal. The staff were very friendly and welcoming when we arrived. The order was taken efficiently and the food arrived without a huge wait. The food was hot and very tasty.

Had such a lovely experience here. The staff are all really friendly and accommodating. I have to avoid dairy due to breastfeeding an allergy baby and they were amazing about altering my meal to suit my needs. The food was absolutely delicious too. So many little touches like real flowers on the tables and the woman serving us brought warm cloths for after our meal. Was a perfect evening out, thank you!

Excellent Indian food here before but now thought we would try a takeaway and phoned the order through - picked it up right on the dot and so much food for two of us! - the Special Banquet for Two was really enough for four with even extra rice thrown in for free!Still very very good and so reasonable -£22.00 - no wonder the place was packed on a Friday night. These people deserve to succeed and rightly so - we will definitely return again.

My wife and six kids travelled all the way from Blackpool as zaika was highly recommended by our friends and family. We did not expect such an amazing atmosphere. Never have we been in a restaurant where we felt at home. Everyone was extremely friendly and caring. This makes it such a special restaurant in the borders. The food was cooked to perfection. Chicken tikka and lamb bhuna was absolutely gorgeous. Our mango lacee was freshly made and was a tasty side. The hot towels at the end just made the night insane. Never have we been to an Indian restaurant where we were provided with real hot towels. We will definitely be back next month. You guys are amazing.

A big thank you to Zaika who managed to squeeze our big party in on a busy weekday! The food was absolutely delicious. We are all very happy with our curries and the fish curry was beautiful. We are regular visitors every month and I'm glad its bring your own alcohol. No charge for use of glasses or service. The staff amaze me every time. We all had the chicken tikka main course with our choice if sauce and pilau rice. Ghe sauces were all nice but the chicken tikka isn't chicken tikka at all. It just diced chicken that they've dyed a red colour. Its completely tasteless. We won't be going back here but will go to gala Tandoori instead

This is the best curry that I have ever had! The amount of flavour as well as the cooking of the vegetables was perfect. The naan bread was a great size and the portions of both the curry and the rice were giant! I have had multiple takeaways from this restaurant and each time both the food and the service has been excellent. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for good Indian cuisine in the area!

This is Galashiels folks and not exactly the gourmet capital of the Western world - but this place was just oh so good! It used to be called The Spice of India and now revisited by us a couple of years later on a wet dreich ( that’s Scottish!) night after a visit to the cinema to see the latest Tarantino film.Just excellent Indian food at such a good price from the pakoras to the Rogan Josh - and a special inclusive price on a Thursday but we were too full for pudding and coffee - and then: HOT HAND TOWELS at the end of the meal which was a nice touch and what BA used to do on flights in those far off days.Real napkins as well with lime slices in the iced water.It is really a real gem of a little place and you can take your own booze without a surcharge which is even better. Full and happy we walked slowly homewards through a darkening and wet night wondering why we hadn’t found this before now.

In August 2018 my family ate here and it was the best Indian I have had and still remember it a year later. Everything we ordered was cooked so well. I met the owner afterwards who was very friendly and told him how much we had enjoyed the meal. If this restaurant wasn't 280 miles away I would be a frequent customer. It really is very very good. (I've said the date of my visit was sept 2018 because that the closest date trip advisor will allow but I suppose very few people write a review of a restaurant after 12 months)

Hearing good reviews for this restaurant, so eventually got round to paying a visit early on a Friday night. Pleasantly surprised, busy for early evening with people with young families. Food every bit as good as reported. Pleasant staff and management. Comfortably set up and quick service. Lamb and Chicken Tikka and sauces very good.Only thing holding this back would be the other excellent Indian Restaurants in town, but not a single complaint. Unlicensed, so take your own favorite beverage.

Simple lunch menu but very tasty

Good authentic Indian food. Excellent service. Excellent choice and good prices. NOT licensed so you have to take your own alcohol but they have a range of soft drinks. Really enjoyed my visit

Ordered over Just Eat on probably one of the busiest nights of the year for the restaurant, the delivery arrived early, piping hot and of the highest quality. We had Chicken Madras 11/10 Chicken Masala 10/10 North Bengal Masala with Green Chillies 10/10. Seriously the best carry out so far this year!

Had the Thursday special meal deal, was a great meal with starters and desert included for around £12.50 but we were too full to finish. Quick service and pompadoms served while you decide what you're getting.

We came here on saturday with my daughter and wife. We were extremely surprised by how busy the restaurant was, absolutely packed . Service was excellent , food delicious and price reasonable. Will be back

Firstly would like to say we have used Zaika for a while now and never had an issue until tonight and I will NEVER be back again....Ordered food for a family get together at around 7pm. We were told it would be around 45 minutes for it to be ready. I turned up maybe 10 mins earlier than I should because in the past they have been very efficient however this was far from the opposite. They took a while to even acknowledge or serve me. After I finally paid I took a seat and just waited. The customers around me were very agitated and explained that they had been waiting for over an hour extra for their food. I would say there was maybe a back log of around 5 takeaway customers orders. After around 20 minutes of waiting I asked why there was such a hold up. The girl took my name so she could find out where our order had gotten to. She went through to the kitchen and then came back through, completely ignored me and then proceeded to do other tasks and duties. I then asked again and again she took my name. I felt unwell due to sitting so long in the eat so went outside for air in which in this time it came to light they had ‘misplaced our order’ as I was informed by other customers when I came back in. I then asked again could they explain what was going on. In this time a few takeaway orders had been given out and even some people who had come in after us had gotten theirs. This young lass kept saying it’ll be another 10 mins. In this time a over heard several eating in customer ask for a manager as they hadn’t received their food or it wasn’t the correct order. There is obviously a severe communication issue in this place which needs sorted ASAP. This young lass that I had dealt with I could see was getting stressed but at the end of the day the way she was acting was far from professional. As a paying customer I do not wish to be lied to how I was tonight. I got told at least 3 times it would only be another 10minutes they are just finishing up the last dish. Each time I asked I was getting delayed and understandably getting very annoyed. I approached the girl and explained I did not appreciate being lied to and that I needed an honest answer as to where our food was as waiting almost 2 hours was getting beyond a joke. She said she would speak to the kitchen and come straight back to me. Again I had to go up and ask her the story as she again came back through and just completely ignored me. One of the others girls kindly explained that our order had gone out to a delivery by accident so they had had to redo the whole order. I understand this is a mistake that can happen in a busy restaurant but I would of preferred being told the truth straight away. So finally after waiting a grand total of around 2 hours our food came and with so many apologies. The girl that I could not be arsed with frankly then turned round and said ‘The foods really good you know’. Well love if I got my food when I was told I would and have my whole order given to me aye it might be good but the food itself although it was good did not outweigh the shocking levels of dishonestly in the place. I then of course asked if there was going to be any refund of some sorts for the issues I occurred and they looked at me as if to say you ain’t getting nothing back. I would say they reluctantly gave me back half my money and then I took the order home. I would of thought that it would have been nice to offer us at least something in the time that we waited such as a complementary drink or little bite to eat such as a poppadom but no we just got left to felt like a nuisance to them. Once I was home I unpacked it all to discover that once again they had f****d up. They had forgot to give us any rice. We ordered 3 pilau rice and did not receive one of them. I then phoned them as soon as I realised and the girl yet again apologised and said she would send out the rice for us. That was fine but considering all the food we had already was hot we weren’t going to wait another 20mins for some rice before we started eating. I then waited around 40mins and still no rice had appeared. I tried calling then back but the line was constantly engaged. Decided I would try a different phone in which it went straight. Not sure if this was just a simple misunderstanding but it seemed to me that they had blocked my other number. She explained the driver was having difficulty finding our address even though he hadn’t according to her made it in to Selkir yet. It appeared 10mins later so almost an hour in total just for some rice. The delivery driver was extremely apologetic but I said to him at the end of the day it wasn’t his fault so i wasn’t going to getting angry at him. The last comments I would like to make is that;1. Don’t lie to your customers or ignore them 2. Don’t make excuses for your poor standards saying you are a chef done - how is this my fault as the customer, it is your priority to make sure you have the right staff in order to run the place properly 3. ALL of your front of house staff need serious training in customer service as they were rude, ignorant and unaccepting of their own mistakes

We've been going to Zaika for quite some time now and I just felt I needed to write a review. We mainly go at lunchtimes but have been on the odd evening too.We visited for lunch the other day and I ordered the Vegetable Pakora. You always get 2, whereas in the evening you get 3. They used to be tennis ball sized, now they are golf ball sized. The 2 that arrived on my plate as my starter were tiny and were way overcooked. I had chicked tikka madras for my main course but ended up having to leave all of the sauce as it was inedible. The spices were so harsh that it tasetd disgusting. When the waiter came to clear our table. He took my full plate and din;t even ask if everything was okay. I was too embarrased to say anything as I am not one to make a scene or to complain.I will not be going back here.

The food was very tasty well cooked and clearly with love.It arrived in a reasonable time and the staff who sever us was friendly, polite and very helpful in recommending dishes.Will be going again.

Back for another visit, this time I booked a table for 12 to celebrate a colleagues retirement.I dropped off some table decorations the day before, on our arrival table was set and the decorations were up.There was a short speech given by another colleague and a few gifts were presented, whilst all this was going on, popadoms, dips and drinks were served by the ever tentative staff.All the food was ordered, all brought out in a timely fashion and all as ordered.There were another few tables seated and they appeared to be getting just as good a service as we got!I cannot understand some of the negative comments that have been left by other dinners, I use this restaurant regularly for both sit in meals and take always, always a great service and delicious food. I have once had to make comment on, not complain about how different a dish was, this was explained as a new chef and was sorted on my very next visit. To clarify the meal was still very nice, just different than usual!No one will every get everything right 100% of the time, these guys and girls get pretty damn close though.Keep up the great service.

We’ve eaten here on a number of occasions and the food has always been pretty good as has the service and the actual restaurant itself.We went for dinner last night and for some reason there were no table cloths on any of the tables as there has always been. It was just bare tables as you would expect in a cafe, not a restaurant. On every other occasion that we’ve eaten here our main dishes have been placed onto the small heater trays that they put in the centre of the table to keep your curry etc warm while you eat and chat. Not on this occasion! The plates and dishes were just dropped onto the table and it was left with us to sort things out. The owner gave us our curry sauces but didn’t even know which was which!I watched the male waiter come into the restaurant with food and every time he was at a loss as to which table the food was for. He seemed to be unable to get a hang of any table numbering system if if there even was one.A somewhat disorganised night as it was pretty busy. I had the feeling that the reason for the missing table cloths and food warmers was so that people would eat their food quickly to stop it getting cold and leave. Meaning that they could have a higher turnover of paying customers and would not have enough clean table cloths for all of their bookings.Very disappointed with our evening at Zaika.There’s a distinct lack of customer care and attention here now. Especially when they are busy.

Was dissapointed after reading positive reviews and having such a bad experience. Ordered for delivery, which arrived late. On the menu it told us to put which naan we wanted in the comments, comments were clearly ignored as the naan wasn't sent with the order. Onion bhajis were overcooked and dry. I had the vegi korma and towards the end of my meal I noticed something hard and unchewable in a mouthful, turns out it was some packaging, seems to be cardboard with foil, maybe the edge of a milk carton? I Attached a picture, your guess is as good as mine.

Came here with my family to celebrate one of our little ones birthday and we really enjoyed the food. The service was absolutely amazing and the staff were very attentive. Food is top class.
