This place is loved by locals who live/work nearby; it is always crammed during lunchtime, but I have never waited more than 20 minutes. Sandwiches are tasty and come at a reasonable price, around 3-4 pounds. Mind you, I would not be coming here if I wasn't living in the same area; it is just an ok spot for fast takeaways in a neighbour where the remaining option for lunch would be the Co-op.

Have used Prego since its inception when sandwiches and onsite restaurant were in existence. There have been changes in ownership over the years which sadly have seen the personal touch disappear in my opinion. Restaurant now gone in favour of larger kitchen / preparation area - a real disappointment because Prego lunches were first class. Sandwiches today are varied - plenty choices. Long waiting times at the usual busy times. If you want coffees and food expect long waits ! Shop front is very cramped so if you are waiting with ten other people for food which can happen - it gets cramped - or you get wet waiting outside ----- which in Aberdeen is often Best sandwich options in Aberdeen

Stopped by for a quick sandwich at lucnhtime - ordered a calprese panini - well what I thought would have been a panini - it had hardly touched the bread so was not nice and crispy and the mozzarella hadn't even melted - only 2 slices of tomato - a waste of money for £3.85! Will not be back - used to be so much better than this - shame it got taken over.

Used to be a boutique restaurant and deli but now is limited to lunchtime sandwiches. The sandwiches are generally tasty and large and use interesting ingredients however the staff ark ways seem under a huge amount of stress and as a result can be rude with customers and to other staff members and get orders wrong. Overall tasty but a pale comparison of what it was before.

going to give a review giving a few good point and bad first of all i'll start with good: the staff are always lovely and friendly at busy time they always try serve as quickly as they can and can never fault them as they have never got my order wrong. There soup is delicious and the salads are a good size that always fill you up. A few bad points: Paninis are never cooked for long enough and I wouldn't say filled you up, definitely need something else with them. Prego is quite small would be nice if it was bigger and could sit in, or even had a few chairs outside. Hot drinks never taste that nice. All in all I think prego is a lovely place and very organised.

the last time i was here, i ordered a roast beef sandwich. The roast beef was drier than the Sahara desert, the sandwich was swimming in Horse radish and looked like it had been thrown together. I thought i would give them another go so i returned and ordered a BLT on brown bread. The service was dire, i don't think anyone in the place knows what service with a smile means. I got home to open the sandwich bag and with no surprise, the sandwich was swimming in mayonnaise. On top of this, i don't think i have ever seen as fatty bacon that was used, it was disgusting, the tomatoes were huge chunks, clearly no care in making the sandwich presentable. This is a real shame as the place could do so much better, it's a little gold mine. the owners need to bring in new staff that serve with smiles and improve the quality of the food. I WILL NOT be returning!

Recently I started to work just across the road from Prego so decided to take advantage and nip over to order a breakfast roll which is served till 11 am. When I was walking towards Prego, a male member of staff was standing right at the door smoking a cigarette which straight away made a really bad impression. Letting that slide I wandered in to stand at the counter for a good 30 seconds while the lady at the counter ignored me until she'd finished tinkering with the till. I've worked in customer service for 10 years and I've always been taught that if you're busy - at least acknowledge the customer. I had a sausage and black pudding roll once I eventually managed to order which was very tasty.I thought the bad service was maybe just a one time thing however, I went back 2 days later to order an egg and black pudding roll and was treated to the same lady ignoring me this time for 34 seconds (I counted.) Overall, the food is tasty but the counter service was terrible.

I have been coming to Prego since it opened a few years ago! However since September 2013 I have noticed a big decline in the quality of their lunches just little things like toasting panini/wraps too much they are burnt on top, not wrapping wraps properly so it just falls apart in your hands.. Also, if you have any special requests (e.g. No onion or similar) it's often ignored!I have only eaten in the restaurant once or twice and can't complain, however considering you only get a bit of salad and some crisps it's quite pricey when compared to the takeaway!

Went to Prego after numerous attempts to book a table (the restaurant basically has about 20 seats so this is partially understandable). Nice decor and ambience, very cosy - all looked promising for the perfect neighbourhood restaurant we'd been hoping for. But these hopes were dashed by the very average quality of the food. Being Dec 21st it was a "festive menu", but I chose what ought to have been pretty safe - chicken liver parfait, seared venison medallion with red cabbage. The starter was average - tasty enough but with an uneccessarily large portion of undressed salad. But the venison was terrible - nice-looking chunks of meat but cooked well-done, despite the menu saying "pan-seared". Who would cook this anything other than rare, and why wouldn't the waiter have asked what our preference was? Don't think it should be my job to ask the chef to cook the food as described on the menu. The food was served with school-dinners sprouts, semi-roast new potatoes and red cabbage. There were only two other diners in, so there was no excuse that the kitchen was busy.Desert was sticky toffee pudding, nice enough, and the coffee was OK. But at £60 for three courses it was really expensive. It is BYO so drinks were at least decent value. There are so many positive reviews (although many appear to be for the sandwich bar next door) we perhaps had a bad experience, but the food was so unimaginative and poorly cooked that I won't be giving Prego another chance.

I am a regular customer of Prego and would highly rate their sandwiches. In the past, I have regularly phoned in corporate orders for delivery and these have been duly delivered. Having recently begun maternity leave, I am a bit more restricted in being able to nip out for a sandwich but was pleased to see that the Prego website offers free delivery for orders over £10 within the city. With a group of friends, I made an order for approx. £20 and this was delivered to a city centre location (albeit by a grumpy delivery woman who apparently could not locate one of Aberdeen's main roads...). We decided to do this on a weekly basis, however, when we phoned the following week we were informed that this delivery service was only for "corporate" customers. As a group of professional women, we were disappointed that we were no longer deemed to be good enough to deliver to, despite paying above the stated amount and being in the city centre. I would suggest that Prego change their web menu to reflect their desire to deliver to an elite clientele only.

I love PregoAnd so does everyone else by all accounts. It can be difficult to get a table, so book in advance.Whether you visit for a romantic meal or to celebrate with colleagues, or just to hang out with friends, Prego has something to offer everyone. The restaurant itself is compact and bijoux, but perfectly laid out. On a summer’s evening it is light and airy, in the winter, it is cosy and the perfect place to drink some red wine and enjoy a (rather large) dinner. On my last visit I enjoyed the Pate, Veal Escalope with Tagliatelle and a huge Knickerbocker Glory made with some of the gorgeous ice-cream from the sandwich bar next door. I can’t lie, the food at Prego isn’t Michelin star, but it is great food. A lot of care and attention goes into flavour combinations and the quality of the produce is fantastic. The servings aren’t meagre and whilst you will never leave hungry, you will want to go back again and again. Prego is not only great for dinner, it is also fantastic value for lunch and breakfast. I can personally recommend the Triple Chicken Club, Classic Triple BLT [with cheese & egg!], and the Churchill. I also highly recommend the Warm Spiced Chicken Tikka Salad – a taste sensation. If you like a lazy breakfast on a Saturday morning – head to Prego. I warn you though, you will need to go for a walk afterwards…. If you can finish the full breakfast, do let me know.

I haven't visited Prego in a while, but would sum it up as very good bistro-style dining. I believe it has changed hands recently, but the food is still of a pretty good standard. One or two things to mention - Prego is small and very popular so booking is a must. Also, being small it's fairly space-constrained, so I wouldn't put it top of my list for a romantic dinner for two! That having been said, the service was friendly and efficient, the (slightly limited) menu was tempting and the corkage (it's byob) is not excessive. A couple of things stop it getting 5 stars. Firstly. I thought my starter of garlic mushrooms was a tad overpriced for the size of the portion and secondly my old bugbear of hot food on cold plates was in evidence.Overall then, an enjoyable experience, but not quite perfect.

We have been looking forward to eating an evening meal at Prego for a while having only been there for lunch before. I have written many positive reviews on eating out in Aberdeen, unfortunately this will not be one.The restaurant is a small, intimate venue that looks very good and has a warm feel that should make for a good night. It is also BYOB and charges a corkage fee. However, this is no cheap and cheerful family owned have some pasta with Mama place and the prices charges need a level of quality and service to match. This was sadly lacking when we visited. The service was friendly but untrained, provided by two teenage girls who really need more support on serving and hosting tables. The menu is small and straightforward, has a mediterranean feel with Antipasti, Salami and Bruschetta among the starters. We had antipasti to start, which was very good. The mains we chose were the Salmon and Veal, which we all thought were average at best. There are some very nice ice creams and sorbets. The problem is that the prices are at the level of fine dining and what we experienced was more an average BYOB cafe and definitely not that. People throw 5* around trip adviser and it should be deserved. I have scored three restaurants at this level in Aberdeen to date and Prego is pushing it with a score of 3.

We chose to eat early on a Friday night and happened to be the first people to arrive at the Restaurant. The very friendly waitress told us that other people had booked which was good as the restaurant is very small inside and I didn't fancy being the only couple there for dinner. Its bring your own wine, so we had a drink and looked at the menu which was lovely. We ordered starters and main courses and the food duly arrived. The starters were fantastic, nice big portions and beautifully presented. The mains arrived and they were just as large and perfectly cooked and presented. We weren't going to have dessert but the waitress recited a great long list of delicious sounding ice creams and we just couldn't resist! Sticky toffee and caramel shortcake icecream are to die for. Not the cheapest of meals but great quality and I didn't grudge a penny. I am looking forward to going back, perhaps at lunchtime as the menu looks fantastic too. PS - you need to book!

Had a table reservation there for an early dinner date an old girlfriend of mine. Was initially un-enthused because having lived in the Rosemount area for a while, this was my first visit since the restaurant changed hands. Well my doubts were put to shame! Firstly the waiter was friendly, polite and knowledgeable without being overly present which is often common in smaller venues. Secondly the food was generous, tasty (the antipasti platter is divine and huge, chicken piccatta(sp?) was perfectly cooked and my friends veal was "spot-on") and we were not rushed to finish our wine. Thirdly although small, the atmosphere was intimate, and perfect for a romantic meal, or as in my case, a catch up with a friend. I loved it so much that I suggested a lunchtime meeting a week later. Well oh my word what a choice- I recommend studying the lunchtime options before arriving! I could of eaten the entire menu if I wasn't worried about my waistline (We settled for a sizzling chicken wrap - delicious and a surprisingly good classic beef sandwich)! The only issue, which did not bother us, was that there were a few customers wondering why they weren't serving an all day breakfast. Have booked to go back and would (have) recommend to friends. In an area where there are few places to eat out, this place is an absolute treat (and I'm not just talking about the ice-cream!)

Wow - what a great evening! I'd visited Prego for lunchtime sandwiches several years ago (which, incidentally, I really enjoyed too) but had never been for dinner until last month (Wednesday 26th June). I honestly wasn't expecting it to be anything special (hence the midweek visit) but was so impressed by everything we experienced.I always liked the look of it as it's very much European in style, like an intimate Parisian cafe. We were served by Helen who was delightful and cheery the whole evening and really went all out to look after us. She was so friendly throughout and went ensured the meal was delivered impeccably. My partner started with the prawns and I went for antipasti, which for starters were very generous and presented beautifully. She then went on to have the salmon, which she thoroughly enjoyed. I decided to be simple with a fillet steak. I was sceptical as it was quite expensive but it really was perfectly cooked and I couldn't have been happier with the taste. It is a little bit further away from Union St than some restaurants but closer than Queen's Road and definitely worth the visit. Recommend to anyone who is looking for a pleasant, quiet restaurant with a bit of character, excellent service and food to match.

Ate here for the first time with friends last Saturday night (15th June) and we had a fantastic time. The food was absolutely delicious and the presentation was fantastic. My boyfriend and I shared an antipasti for our starter and it was soooo good. Other members of the group had the prawn starter and the soup of the day and they all said it was gorgeous. The main courses were even better! I had the Prego Vitello (veal) which was cooked to perfection and so tasty, and other had the Honey Chilli Chicken and a parmesan chicken dish with pasta (can't remember the name). All of the meals looked beautiful and tasted fantastic. The 2 waitresses were lovely: so helpful and friendly and the girl who served us was really knowledgeable (she had memorised all of the ice cream flavours - which is impressive considering the amazing selection!). After a great visit last time (Dec 2012) we really looked forward to an evening meal in May. Unfortunately, it did not lie up to expectation. No problems - friendly enough staff and the food was fine, but nothing stood out. One of the party ordered the steak which had to be put back due to being overcooked - this split up the meal a bit. Steak was replaced by a much better cut - but was obviously rush cooked. Pity - as i really used to like this place. Wont be back in a hurry.

We often have lunch at Prego, this is a very small bistro which serves excellent food. It;s always hot and the service is spot on. The take away sandwiches are fantastic. A really good place to eat.

Went there for dinner because it was so highly rated in Tripadvisor. While the service staff were nice to accommodate us at short notice, and chatty, this place in no way lives up to a five star or top ten rating. Note it looks like it's a sandwich bar most of the time, perhaps the lunch sandwiches are something special, but dinner was worse than average. We paid through the roof for some pasta which was at least five minutes too overcooked, not enough sauce and needed salt. Basic, basic stuff no one should get wrong. Felt like we would have got a better meal at any number of chain Italians for a third of the price.

We stopped here for a quick lunch on a busy day. It was cosy inside, a welcome respite from the rain. The soup of the day was chicken broth, perfect to warm the cockles as well as the soggy feet. The service was quick and friendly but the star of the show was the soup, full of chicken meat, with a deep comforting taste. My partner had the same but accompanied by a chicken bill sandwich. Soup alone would have been sufficient given the large portion sizes of both, but he managed to polish it off whist enthusing about the chicken dressing. With a total spend of £20 it was certainly worth paying a visit, we left feeling like we were walking in sunshine, until we needed to put the brolly up!

I went here for dinner one mid-week evening, we were unable to get a weekend booking as it was fully booked for some time, and I’m not surprised! Me and partner both enjoyed very tasty and well-presented started. For main I had the veal escallops and my partner had mango chicken. Both were very tasty and it was a pleasant surprise that the portions were large. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable and the surroundings pleasant. This restaurant located away from the city centre is certainly a hidden gem.

I came here for a sit in lunch. My friend and I shared the fish board, which was exceptionally delicious! I'm not usually a fan of smoked salmon but theirs was so nice, I had more than my fair share. I then had the sliced roast beef salad which was HUGE, it would've been a filling lunch on it's own without the starter. Not being a big fan of raw onions and pepper, my only issue was that there was too much of both of these components, however the roast beef and cous cous made up for it. My friend ordered the double bill sandwich which he found to be very filling as well. The service was fast, helpful and very perky. Recommended.

Every Friday our company order in rolls as a treat and we usually get them from another reliable source. We fancied a change and decided to order from Prego for the 2nd time (the first time we called we couldn't get through and when we finally did, we were rudely told that it was too late - 10.30am). The selection of rolls on offer is a bit more varied and includes black pudding as one of the options. I called this time and asked to order some rolls for delivery. The girl on the phone didn't even know if they did deliveries and I felt a bit silly for asking. It states clearly on the menu that they deliver for a minimum order of £10. I heard some shouting back and forth and was passed onto another lady (not with the best phone manner may I add) and was told that they didn't think they delivered that far and that the driver was already out for deliveries (9.30am). They took my order anyway and said that they would call back to confirm. It was all a bit strange. They called back about 15 minutes later and was told that they don't deliver that far. May I note that when one of my colleges went in to pick up a menu he was told that it would be no problem to deliver to our workplace. The customer service of this pace on the phone is shocking. We will NOT be calling again. It doesn't take much to say a little 'thanks' or 'sorry'. But then that's Aberdeen for you.

I stop here fairly regularly for a sandwich at lunchtime. So many options and so far have only worked my way through a handful of them. The bread is always so fresh and tasty, and the fillings are good quality, particularly the meat - it is never rubbery or tasteless, always seems nice and fresh. Have still to try the evening bistro, but have heard brilliant things about it and that fact it is fully booked most weekends speaks volumes.

I'd heard really great things about this little place and wanted to try it out. So one lunch a friend and I tried it out. I just had a take out panini as I was in a bit of a rush - the place was busy but unfortunately it was almost cold and the cheese hadn't even melted, apart from that it was fine - but nothing special. It was good value however - I would try this place again but only because I seem to be the only person with a bad word to say. The sit in place looked quite nice.

Visited Saturday. Its a small dining room with room only for 20 or so diners, however its size helps create an excellent atmosphere. The lady in charge was charming and fully aware for how a resturant should be run. That all said the high point was the food. We had all the 3 dishes from the Daily Specials - Soup, Baked Haddock and Pork & Black pudding with a pepper sauce, plus a lemony delicious prawn on toast starter. All fresh, well cooked, well presented, tasty and decent sized portions. The sweets too looked delicious but ..... Oh and thank you Prego for being BYO. So much nicer than being ripped off in most other places!

Prego has something for everyone. If you need a sit down meal, or a sandwich. They offer a delivery service so if you need a home or office delivery - they do all - i have used on many occasions and would recommend them.Restaurant has limited amount of tables so booking often required at peak times. No license for booze but you can take your own for a fee.Food consistently good, service excellent, you never get rushed - many of the so called higher end establishments could learn a lot from the Prego teamSandwiches always fresh and a large list of options - have tried many apart from anything with egg!Reasonably priced. I've been to Prego a couple of times now for an evening sitting - once with work and then a few weeks later with my wife. Both times we have been treated to a fantastic meal and great service. The menu has plenty of choice; everything I've had has been well presented and delicious!Anyone looking for good food in a relaxed and friendly venue should check out Prego. As an additional point, they also do sandwiches / salad boxes etc for lunches, which I've also sampled. I recommend checking out the lunch time menu if you're looking for something filling and yummy!

A couple of people have said I must try this cafe so I did, although it's taken a while to submit my review. Like the reviewer a couple of entries down, I found the 2 members of staff (and it sounds like the same 2) aloof and unfriendly. After working out how to order (there's no indication nor a hurry from staff to advise the system), the coffee I had was good and the cake (though not from a big choice) was lovely. An attempt to praise said cake was met with indifference. Haven't been in the evening but not sure if I'll hurry along now.

Not happy about it, no need.Wrap was good though, no qualms about food. Ill spend my hard earned at more appreciative establishments, the monopoly they have on local area wont last forever. This has put me off going back.

This place is very close to Queens Cross in the West End of Aberdeen and is a very small venue so booking is a must for weekend dining.I'd booked a table about 2 months in advance for a friday night and we were not disappointed.Great friendly service as we were greeted and given our table, its a Bring your own drink place so had dropped a couple of bottles of wine off the day before, it was flowing well all through the evening as the staff topped up the glasses non stop. Now the food, well it was sensational, starters were so well presented, I had a 'special' prawn, smoked salmon & avacado pate which was great, even with the extra bread to be able to eat it all, but the main course, now it was superb. We both had chicken porcellini, it was phenominal in taste, texture, flavours. This place really is a hidden gem in Aberdeen and not surprised it is full every weekend, it is a must for any food loving person

Having both been here with their respective partners, my two best friends both suggested coming here for my birthday meal...so it must be good I thought. No, its actually great. I've been to Prego before for morning coffee and lunch but this was my first visit in the evening. Its not a huge place, but there is a fantastic atmosphere. I feel that the fact it doesn't have a drinks licence is good, because it means you can actually keep the costs down when you go out for a meal. There is a corkage charge and a wine shop practically next door so its no problem. Because of Prego's size, the service is personal & attentive, without suffocating you. Glasses were refilled without being asked and always with the correct wine that each of us was drinking. And the waiter/maitre 'd remembered everyone's order so we didn't have any "now who was the fish???". The food was superb and lots of it too. The antipasti platter for two had enough for all six of us. Main courses were delicious...possibly could have been a little hotter & two of our plates were quite cold, but to be honest, it tasted so damn nice that we didn't care. I even managed to force down a huge portion of sticky toffee pudding which didn't disappoint either. I think for a Friday/Saturday night booking is essential. We had to book our table for 6 about six weeks earlier, so I wouldn't expect to be able to just walk in off the street. I haven't seen that much advertising for Prego, but word of mouth recommendation has ensured that this wee gem is always busy with repeat clientele and I can see why. They've just added me to that long list too. I'd highly recommend a visit...or two.

Apart from presenting some of the best soup I've ever had - their chicken and sweetcorn soup is incredibly delicious - the proprietors' attention to detail takes Prego to a different level. Their deli boxed salads are very generous, and come with your dressing of choice in a wee container, cutlery beautifully wrapped in a napkin and tucked inside the napkin, some salt and pepper to use as you see fit. It's always the freshest and best quality ingredients. We've sat in the Bistro for lunch occassionally too and it's always been presented swiftly and piping hot. They make every effort to provide a service suited to the community - local office workers taking a break for some fresh air and a quality lunch, and residents wanting a place to meet and chat. Top notch service and food.

Prego is a small, intimate restaurant in the west end of Aberdeen. The menu gave a good choice for all 3 courses, with additional specials. The food was very good indeed (the only slight negative was that my very enjoyable steak could have been hotter - a common gripe) and the service excellent. We were somewhat slow in making our choices but at no point were we made to feel that this was a problem, nor were we rushed out at the end of the evening. The restaurant is BYOB which is an additional big plus: this is relatively unusual in Aberdeen. All of us felt we would be very happy to return.

Prego is just down the street from where we live and it always has excellent food with great service. It is not a "drop in" sort of restaurant though. We usually have to book a week in advance and if it is an important date you should call two weeks ahead. They only have a few tables and they are in high demand. Do me a favor.. even if it's not on the menu, ask for the Chicken Picatta. They took it off the menu a few months ago and I think they should put it back.

Pregos food is quite good, nothing special, but good. I have to comment on their ice cream though as that was amazing. If you're coming here for dinner, save room for a few scoops as it is the best I've tried. However we were quite disappointed when the bill came. The restaurant came out to about the same as any good restaurant in Aberdeen (including wine) but as this place is a bring your own booze it is actually quite expensive. Part of the attraction of bring your own drink is that you can have a great meal and not have to fork out extortionate prices for wine. Unfortunately it seems they've added a few quid here and there to their dishes that this attraction isn't there.I would probably try this place again but for lunch, they may have a cheaper menu then.

I had heard a lot of good things about prego and popped in for lunch to be disappointed that menu reverts to soup, wraps, panninis and baked potatoes. Well prepared dishes but nothing special. I would prefer if it was licenced as all we really wanted was a glass of wine with our food and not a bottlle. I do appreciate that if you want to bring your own wine the BYOB is good value.Friendly service in a small, tight environment. The table next to us joined in our conversation a couple of times, which can be fun as it was this time. However, not a place for private chat.I hear it has a good atmosphere and menu in the evening when it reverts to being a restaurant and I will try it out soon as it looks the type of place a group of 10+ can take over for a fun evening. At lunch however Prego is very much a nice soup and wrap type of place for 'ladies who like to do lunch'.

We stayed at 8 different hotels and guest houses during our last 2-week visit to Scotland. Unfortunately, this was our least favorite. We liked that there is plenty of onsite parking, restaurant, and bar. Check-in was quick; but the layout has you walking through the bar and restaurant to get to the check-in desk. Rather awkward for those walking through; and mildly distracting for those enjoying a drink or meal. The room itself was spacious and I liked the trouser press. However, signage in the room requests you keep the bathroom door closed when showering to prevent the fire alarm from going off. This turns the bathroom literally into a steam room. Everything; and I mean everything gets wet/damp, and stays that way. The hallways are very narrow and have a moldy smell. The bar downstairs is well stocked; but the bartenders are unable to mix a drink. I don't mean they lack the skills - but refuse. I love a good Scotch; but my wife occasionally prefers a mixed cocktail. Not possible here.
