First time visiting Pot and Rice. Our server Li was friendly and helpful. A good selection of food to choose from. We arrived just before the end of Happy Hour - bonus! Our Pork Patty & Bamboo Shoots pot rice was delicious. We also had tobiko & prawn cheung fun which was different to dim sum cheung fun. Will definitely return for more

After trundling all over London town on our first day of our week long break, we decided to pop into Pot & Rice. This venue gets a lot of attention on Chinese Social Media, so we "had" to go. With no reservation, they were able to seat us immediately, and on perusing the menu I was astounded at the prices. Still, we were on holiday, it's London, blah, blah. We ordered a Soft Shell Summer Roll, which was a crispy soft-shell crab and salad, pomegranate wrapped in Vietnamese rice paper with mango sauce, and also a Chinese Salami & Chicken pot rice. We also ordered drinks as well as some tap water, the waitress seemed deeply annoyed and upset that we had dared to ask for tap water... Anyway, we were advised that the pot rice can take 15 to 20 minutes but we were fine with that. The Summer Roll came out, and it was, well, it was a bitter, bitter disappointed, completely devoid of anything remotely close to taste. It was pure expensive rubbish. There was probably more flavour in the napkin. This didn't bode well for the pot rice, but, luckily, the pot rice helped save the meal. It was large, it was tasty, and it was packed with tender meat (chicken and slivers of laap cheurng sausage). The waitress ended up being very nice, despite the initial look of contempt, and she wished us a great stay in London. Now, 3/5 may seem harsh, I really want to go 3.5 but it doesn't let me, and 4 is way too high for the place - marks were dropped due to the horrific summer roll. This is a nice place, food (if you choose correctly) is nice, but, daaaaamn that summer roll needs to be removed from the menu.

Hard to get overexcited about this place. Very basic dishes served in a pot. Tasted just ok. Cocktails were nice enough. Service efficient. Atmosphere dead. Instantly forgettable meal at an ok price.

UPDATE: We became regulars here until 2020 and were very sad indeed to dscover that it has closed its doors. A real loss to anyone who enjoys first quality Japanese food! This is one of the best Japanese restaurants in London but it is so authentic that you need a guide. The sushi is good, the usual menu items are very good but if you really want to eat well you need to choose from the blackboard with the day's dishes chalked up in Japanese. Marinated squid guts and tuna cheek are delicious and so genuine: you could be in a very good local restaurant in Japan. These kind of dishes are not found in most London Japanese restaurants and this is why Sakana Tei is special. Grab a Japanese or literate Chinese friend and treat them in return for choosing the delicious surprises you would normally miss!
