If you haven’t tried the new cafe next door to The Rose and Crown on the bypass then give it a try. Great food and nice place. The music and decor is chilled. 5 stars from me. We will be back ! Support local businesses if you can. They need it more than the big boys.

Bit disappointed - opens at 10.00am on Saturday - we arrived 10.30am, coffee machine had only just been turned on ans was advised it will be a "long" wait Place was freezing cold, the have a fire place for display only i think. Food Had to ask for a Bacon and Egg sandwich as its not on the menu {but its a cafe}, that came quite quick BUT on stale bread /served with rocket / crisps and hummus ? No selection of pastries Coffee came after an 3/4 hour I had eaten and that was very nice, strong and well made Would I return maybe - in approx 6months when they are more organised but only for a coffee

Great to see Portway House open and working again after watching the premises dilapidate over recent years. Met a colleague for a breakfast meeting there and enjoyed a really decent full English breakfast. Only yards from Junction 3 of the M42 too.

Being a regular at Portway House Cafe has its perks, especially when the Full English breakfast is involved. Each visit solidifies my love for their hearty, home-cooked meals. The atmosphere is always welcoming, the staff friendly, and the coffee just how I like it. It’s the consistency that keeps me coming back; the quality never wavers. A five-star experience that has become a staple of my routine.

The inside is nicely set out and the staff were pleasant, however the food was mixed. Some of the food was fine but other food wasn't eg the scrambled egg resembled boiled egg "cut-up" and was cold.

So far after two visits the full English breakfasts have been excellent. Hot, well cooked and plenty of it. Nice coffee and very welcoming pleasant staff. This is fast becoming a regular breakfast haunt for us. Highly recommended.

Discovering the new Portway House Cafe in the shell of the old Italian restaurant felt like a warm reacquaintance with a cherished past. In my conversations with the staff, I learned of the cafe’s recent inception and the respectful nod to heritage through the incorporation of the restaurant’s reclaimed woodwork. As a child, I was a regular here with my family, and it delights me to see the spirit of the old space lovingly maintained. During my visit, a full English breakfast and a classic fish and chips were thoroughly enjoyed, culminating in a delectable Victoria sponge accompanied by a pot of English tea — all offered at surprisingly reasonable prices. The setting is an ideal refuge for both reflection and literary escape. The owners have brought this venue to life with integrity and care. With the anticipation of a fireplace to add to the ambiance, I am eager to return. Portway House Cafe is truly a gem reborn, connecting the community to its roots in the most welcoming of ways.

This place has been closed for a few years now due to the owner sadly passing away unexpectedly. She was a lovely lady and in the short time that she owned the place, she transformed it.

The cafe is closed, this is now just a petrol station with a garage forecourt. Lorry park still open, charges £20 to park on a litter strewn yard, no showers and only one toilet in the garage which was dirty and had no paper when I called there. Owner rude and arrogant. Avoid unless you're absolutely desperate. There is space for a good thirty trucks there , there were about six when I visited which tells you everything you need to know.
