Porter and Sorter in Croydon

This was the second time we visited this pub. We spotted it from the platform in July. We were heading home to Uckfield after attending a concert in London and we had a long wait for our connecting train. The pub had a welcoming atmosphere, the staff were friendly, it certainly felt like it was a popular place. So again, last Monday (21st October)we found ourselves on the same platform , around lunchtime, our train had been delayed , No brainer!! We headed for Porter and Sorter. Again, it was welcoming , the staff were friendly and helpful .They had really gone to to town on the Halloween decorations, they were amazing ,and everywhere. We decided to miss the next train and get the later one. We had lunch. The steak was cooked to perfection, they had no problem swopping the peas for baked beans for my husband. We decided to have a dessert, the sundae was delicious. The draught beer was half price it was on a promotion . Altogether well worth a visit. Great pub, Great staff, Great food, Clean and Great decorations. All at a reasonable price. There is also a very nice outdoor seating area. Probably East Croydens Oasis .Highly recommended.

I'm a frequent visitor over the past year to this pub as its local to home and work. The atmosphere is always good. I've never been disappointed. There's always music or an event going on. We visited for most the euro football matches with a great atmosphere, very lively but nice polite, fun people. They are always welcoming to my children even though there's never many kids in there. They have events for all the holidays and even have days just for the kids like Halloween. The staff are mostly lovely! There is a young guy with dreads who is always polite, happy, accommodating and nice to talk too. Another young lad who is always polite and most recently I met the Manager who was very nice. He was funny and even gave the kids a free game of pool and a discount. Ofcourse there's always one that spoils it for the bunch but in general, most are lovely. I've tried different dishes over the year and most are good pub food with the occasional bad dish. They have a small outdoor seating area which is nice during the summer as it gets lots of sun, and even a partially covered outdoor area for the colder months if you're a smoker like me! Overall this is a nice pub. I pop in occasionally after work with colleagues, which seems to be a trend as its right next to the train station and I am never disappointed. When I bring the kids, they always have nice food and enjoy themselves. I like the pub so much, I've even booked my work Christmas Do here in December for 30 of us. I walked passed the pub many times last year over christmas time and the atmosphere, music and events looked really good so decided to book it this year. Oh another thing, they always go all out with the holidays or events. They dress the whole pub up for Halloween, Christmas, football etc which I love! They make it really aesthetically pleasing and much more enjoyable. Honestly, I couldn't fault it!

Recommendation from the wife’s brother whilst visiting for a few days! Reasonably priced drinks and great pub grub. Don’t usually leave reviews often but cool wee device in there to do them, not sure if you reply but would like one for my shop!?

Stopped in for a quick drink before catching a train.

Warm welcome on arrival, Samuel was really helpful with the drink options. Bar prices were reasonable and the bar was clean. Will definitely swing by next time I'm in Croydon.

Popped in every evening for a quick couple of drinks before making our way back to our hotel. Staff were really nice. Great selection of drinks and loads of seating.

Awful! No ale available. All hand pumps were off and only other option was Neck Oil and that was off as well. This was at 3.30pm on a Friday afternoon. Half the pub was cordoned off for a party so there was nowhere to sit. Then at 4pm they played really loud music and couldn't hear ourselves think of chat to friends so we left.

Cannot recommend this pub enough. I’ve lived all across London and it’s the first pub that feels like a comfy local. Staff are so genuine (shout out Sam, Liam, Cam, Brandon, Morgan and all the rest of the gorgeous crew) and get to know their customers. Thursdays are best for the wildest kareoke. Got a life long customer here x

Visited this week and it was fantastic, the staff were all friendly with great customer service and all with a smile. Danielle and Dan were amazing and very knowledgeable when I asked them some questions. Will definitely be returning soon.

Karaoke on Thursday nights is a banger - Morgan and her team are brilliant sports, always entertaining singing and and friendly service. Niko is a brilliant DJ and karaoke-king. Star of the show is Zak, absolute legend and always a friendly face in this crazy place.

The pub has a great atmosphere and the food is excellent. However, it took a while for our order to arrive, and the place could use a bit more attention to cleanliness.

A very nice place to go for a beer or a cider! We went on a Thursday, which is karaoke night! There seemed to be some regulars who love to belt out their favorite songs, altogether a lovely and casual atmosphere.

Visited for the football. Clean and tidy pub, decorated well for the game. Staff are fantastic and can’t be faulted. Great selection of drinks and reasonably priced.

Reall poor customer service from A guy working behind the bar yesterday (grey hair & beard)- I asked for a dash of lemonade in my wine as we ordered to the table and couldn't request on the app. He said "ill be charging you for that" and told me I had to pay £1 never in my life have I ever been told to pay £1 for a top of lemonade his attitude was bad and he was very rude. The other bar staff where very friendly and he was miserable.

I attended as part of a group of 10, organised from work. We had tables reserved and ready for us when we arrived at 5.40pm. Bar and food service was good all night and provided with a smile. We also enjoyed the karaoke - the DJ was excellent, welcoming and supportive of all the participants. I hope we return soon!

Morgan and Maygan and Sam are amazing they always make sure you are looked after, and never without smiles. 100 recommended going to the porter just for those guys

I’ve lived in Croydon for 8 years and never even popped in here before today. The vibe and ambience was fantastic and Catherine was great with the service.

Such an fantastic pub to be in right next to east Croydon station. The bar staffs and service were amazing. We were there on a Thursday karaoke night, had an amazing night with my lots. Definitely recommend this place

Great traditional pub! Comfortable bookable areas for groups,a pool table, great DJ,outside smoking beer garden and decent prices. And 2 minutes from all East Croydon great transport links. A real find!

Came into the Porter and Sorter with my friend on a beautiful sunny day and was able to grab a table in the beer garden in the sun! Food was delicious, and we even received table service which was lovely and very quick! Can’t recommend enough! Will be back soon! Thank you Cameron & Brandon!
