Porro in Cardiff

Wonderful restaurant, with fabulous staff, who all made us feel right at home. Food, all three courses were excellent, and the service impeccable. On complimenting the chefs chilli sauce, I was gifted a jar to take away. Now that's going well above and beyond! Highly recommended, if not only for the Welsh whisky old fashioned! Will most definitely be back!

The restaurant was busy buzzing with happy people. We had a delicious dinner with very generous portions. Staff were all very efficient and friendly. A lovely night out for 4 of us.

Lovely meal at Poro at 3pm this afternoon after Cardiff Half Marathon. We were a table of 9 so a pre order was required. Enjoyed a local ale and Peroni Red to kick off then starters arrived promptly. Polpette meatball was spicy and delicious. Beautifully soft lamb with a good selection of vegetables washed down with a nice bottle of montepulciano red. Tiramisu for dessert and coffee completed a memorable meal. Service was excellent, staff were polite and accommodating. Would definitely return and recommend 👍

We popped in for a quick lunch over the weekend and really enjoyed our experience. One of the better restaurants in Cardiff where they take pride in their service and meals. A little pricey, but never had a bad meal.

Went out for dinner with friends. Lovely place with good ambience, food selection and service. Unfortunately the food wasn't great for the price. King prawn mussel pasta came with very little seafood and only a single king prawn. Good wine selection, but no draught beer.

We’ve been here often but my first time for Sunday lunch and it was a real treat. Great starter choice, most of us had prawn cocktail it was lovely but didn’t taste the alcohol it warned us of and needed more bread. Main lunch, was delicious, although the vegetarian choice needs a bit of imagination, a slab of butter nut squash with a bit of goats cheese crumbled over the top…. Could do better. Lovely venue and a great afternoon. Connor is a beautifully polite young man who added to the experience.

The food and service is so sub standard. This is the third time I’ve visited, and each time its got worse. Without the location of where the restaurant is, there would be no customers. I was over charged for 2 course when we only had 1 course, and charged extra for wine we didn’t. Need to work on the basics!

I was thinking during the evening about how to rate a restaurant, and if you're like me, it's 100% about the food and you know with that first mouthful. Porro did not disappoint. I had the monkfish and cod linguine. From that very first mouthful I knew I was going to be happy. My fellow diners appeared equally happy with their choices, and I honestly think I could have chosen anything from the menu and it would have been delicious. The lower floor was full and the atmosphere was very pleasant, air full of chatter. It looked like there was a wedding party in one of the upper rooms, altogether quite busy, but pleasantly so. Equally suited to couples and to family and friend gatherings. Easy access toilet on the ground floor as well as upper floor toilets. Service was good too, staff were attentive, pleasant and helpful, we had a thoroughly good evening and I would not hesitate to recommend Porro to others. We were lucky to find a parking spot close to the door, although there is a car park nearby. We had four main courses and 4 deserts. 2 of us had cider and I think we had a glass of white wine too. I assume with a fourth drink the bill (without a tip) would have been around £175.

Great service. Exceptionally fresh buratta! We were very lucky they were able to squeeze us in — do try to book, even on a weekday.

Lovely place to stop for coffee & sit outside in the sunshine. Haven't stopped for food but will be back to try as always very friendly staff and good vibe.

🇮🇹the best Italian restaurant in Cardiff so far 📝usually ate the set lunch which is 10/10 but decided to go for Sunday lunch and it was also incredible. 💯recommend to get pork belly for roast! it literally melted in my mouth and dare i say, the best pork belly roast i’ve ever eaten. 🕯️the atmosphere, service and seating are all nicely put together, there’s just no negativity.

We had our wedding meal at Porro in the private dining area and can't thank them enough for a fantastic afternoon. The service was exceptional, nothing was too much trouble and they went above and beyond to ensure ourselves and guests had a great time. The food was delicious and lots of it, everyone commented on how good it was! The terrace area was lovely for some pre and post meal drinks. It was Honestly flawless and we can't wait to go back, just the two us, for another meal.

Booked the private room for our wedding and porro went above and beyond to make it so smooth and comfortable. The food was amazing and the staff were wonderful

Organised a baby shower in one of the private rooms here and couldn’t recommend it more. Before the day, the team were very accommodating and made the organising so easy. On the day the food was lovely and staff were so welcoming! Would encourage anyone looking for a venue for a similar event to book!

We've stopped here for coffee so many times as the location is perfect to explore the local area & it's nice to sit out in the sunshine when the weather allows! Each time I salivate over the menu & the lovely aromas that come from the kitchen so we will be back to try the food!!

Service was excellent, so was the food and for the dish I had, monkfish and cod linguine, there was no scrimping on the fish.

Popped in for lunch on Saturday, had the prawn cocktail -delicious, followed by mushroom ravioli - absolutely gorgeous, so much so I didnt take photos as I was enjoying the food so much! We also managed to try desserts, I am ruined for sticky toffee pudding now, it was fantastic. Great service, lovely relaxed atmosphere....a perfect taste of Italy. Highly recommend the place

Overpriced and food average and not that tasty. Avoid if you don’t want to have to argue about the bill as although advertised as set menu in reality you will be charged individually for items and add 10 percent service charge to that and spend hours trying to mitigate with the owner why this is now the case - good service but avoid this place due to the experience of calculating the bill fairly and in a reasonable way. That said I thoroughly enjoyed my meals in other establishments in Llandaff so it is possible to eat elsewhere.

Once again, excellent food, lovely welcome by the owner, I like the fact that 'porro' is Italian for 'leek' - very clever.). Usually easy to park in the car park up the road. Nice wine.

I came for brunch with a friend. It wasn't as busy as other local cafes, however, the food and drinks were lovely. The prices felt competitive when checking out the other menus nearby too, considering it had a more upmarket feel and hot food compared to some of the other options. The staff were both friendly, my friend's latte was missed off the bill, when I pointed this out the manager was kind enough to say it was on them. Excellent customer service. Would recommend food and service. They have a small courtyard upstairs which I can imagine would be enjoyable on a sunny day.

Called in for breakfast on the off chance,glad we did breakfast great full English with an Italian twist,and caramel lattes. WOW if you find somewhere that makes a better one I will pay for it,coffee is superb

A family meal with 9 adults and 2 small children and everything was perfect. Starters, mains and puds were all delicious and the service was fantastic. Can't wait for our next visit.

My children moved in the area and this was one of the first house visits. We decided to go for food but ‘no booking’, rather as ‘walk-in’ in Llandaff. The restaurant looked very inviting and we were so pleased that we were accommodated and cannot praise enough the quality of each meal and the welcoming atmosphere!

Visited this restaurant recently with friends and had a such a lovely experience. A previous visit during December had been very disappointing due to customer service not being as good as it normally is. The food in this restaurant is possibly the best you will taste in the area and the customer service this time was exceptional. We were made to feel very welcome and we must give compliments to the chef for another amazing experience. We can’t wait to support this small independent restaurant by visiting again soon.

The food was outstanding, the staff were really friendly and the restaurant is a little gem on Llandaff High Street. We enjoyed our anniversary meal and we will definitely be back there soon.

Amazing. Super friendly staff. Restaurant very clean, nicely decorated, somewhat understated - and here comes the food. Absolutely delightful. Great selection and value for the set menu. Staff very attentive, super fast service and very supportive to parents with young children in particular. We had a fantastic time and my son loved all of his food and ours too - there is no better testimony than this. The sticky toffee pudding is out of this world, as is ox ragu tagliatelle. We loved it so much we will definitely return, a gem of a place for Cardiff. Well done Porro, keep up the great work!

Myself, and my husband brought my daughter, and her boyfriend here for the first time, as they were visiting us. It was quite busy but we were made to feel very welcome straight away, the service was great, a big thank you to Lee, had a fantastic knowledge of the food, and recommended both my starter, and main. That's when things got even better, the food was incredible, all 4 of us were so blown away, my prawn cocktail was the best I've ever had, my daughter said it was the best arancini she's ever had too. The trio of desserts was unbelievably good, so a big thank you to the chefs Dan, and Cath, and of course our server Lee, and all the team. We will be back 100%

We eat at Porro regularly because the food is of a consistently high standard and the service attentive. We particularly enjoy the service provided by Sim and Katalina and were very pleased to see that it has been commended by Cardiff Bay Rotary - high commendation indeed!

So this is not cheap. But every mouthful was delicious.

Welcoming and informal the staff were friendly but still very professional. The food was superb. I had the special Beetroot Raviolt starter, the Pork Belly and the Orange and Lemon Posset. The ravioli was amazing and nothing could be faulted. We had a wonderful time which was no surprise as we have been here many times and never been disappointed. Definitely our go to restaurant in Cardiff for any meal during the day or evening.

Always have a lovely breakfast here. OK very occasionally the sourdough toast may be a little bit harder than usual as it can be anywhere but I just ask for a steak knife lol! and still enjoy it. All the team are wonderful, very accomodating and fun to be around. Whether it's just a coffee, breakfast, lunch or dinner I love it here.

What to say about Porro! My husband and I found this gem of a restaurant shortly after moving to Cardiff. This is, by far, the best restaurant I have ever been at in my life. The location is incredible, the service is great and the food... is just superb. We come to Porro on every important occasion even after our elopement! My favourite dish is the Welsh lamb. It is incredible, it melts in the mouth. My mum does not like meat, but she had the Welsh lamb shoulder and she cleaned her plate within minutes! My husband adores the pork belly in the menu and last night I tried the pizza for the first time and again, Porro does not disappoint! The pizza tasted like a proper Italian pizza. With every dish, you can tell that products are of prime quality. Porro is delicious, whether you go for pasta, pizza or fish and meat, you always feel like you will have to go back one more time to try something else! Semplicemente meraviglioso! (Just Excellent!)

Came here for breakfast- what a disappointment…. Cold breakfast ( for me) most of it was cold the egg and sausage were luke warm, sourdough toast was rock hard.. My sister didn’t enjoy her breakfast at all. Husband and rest of group said food was ok but not great on the plus side my chai latte was one of the best I’ve ever had. I really love it here as it’s close to where I work and I adore the evening menu. Today however ,was a major disappointment will not return for breakfast again,

Incredibly uncomfortable upon entry. Popped in hopefully for a hot drink and dessert, the folically challenged gentlemen told us they were fully booked with hostility, whilst one table was sat and the entire place was empty otherwise. Felt incredibly uncomfortable. Not a welcoming place at all.

Visited here with my wife, granddaughter and her partner for Friday night meal. Excellent food and service. Will definitely come again.

Bruschetta for starters and lamb shoulder for main. The lamb was the most tender I've ever had. I had 3 meals over the weekend in Cardiff and they all took the plate away before I'd finished chewing the final mouthfull, speedy but odd.

Starters so far fantasic stsy tuned for mains and pudding.. Apprenty, you need to write hunderd letters to make a review, so im writing this piece as i can't think of anything to say.

Came here for an impromptu meal the week before Christmas. We hadn't pre-booked but were warmly welcomed and shown to a table upstairs straightaway. Service was great all throughout and the food was fantastic. The lamb was melt-in-the-mouth. Partner says the ox ragu was delicious too and the desserts left everyone satisfied. Will be returning

Excellent food in a lovely environment with attentive service. I recommend asking for a window table upstairs on making a reservation - Llandaff is such a pretty area and the outlook from this premises lovely. I definitely will be eating at Porro again.

A warm welcome awaited for us and our quiet table was just perfect for our Golden Wedding Anniversary Lunch. Our family had pre-ordered bubbly for us which was enjoyable. The GF menu for my wife was very well presented and easy to choose from. Her main was Pork Belly which I tasted - delicious. I chose a prawn cocktail which, with two king prawns on top, was probably the best prawn cocktail I’d ever experienced. My main was fresh sea bass from the market in Cardiff. I’d asked for the new potatoes to be changed for chips but both came which wasn’t a problem. I wasn’t charged any extra. After mains I enjoyed a very tasty Irish Coffee before our ice cream desserts and I finished off with a Sambuka, without coffee beans set slight though. All in all, a great lunchtime experience to be highly recommended.

The experience of dining at Porro is truly ‘personal service luxury’ though one feels like it is dining at a friends. It strikes the perfect balance between intimate service : high quality food, wine, and decor. The proprietor is an expert in quality. I would recommend taking all of the chiefs’ recommendations!

Visited here for the third time as always had good experience. Early Christmas celebrations but unfortunately not the evening we hoped for. Male staff member welcomed us in rudely with “close the door it’s getting cold in here”. Our waitress was delightful and food outstanding....

Went here never having visited before found it was a very cosy place seating not too squashed, we ordered the sea bream and the pork meal was extremely tasty i really enjoyed it and great portions, for dessert we both had the tiramisu was one of the nicest ones that i have had,would definitely return here

From the moment we arrived we were rushed and the male waiters were rude and made demands for us to get a move on. They had us off the table without a desert. The starters were fine but baby portion of bread, stale. The pasta...

Recently celebrated my fiance's 30th in the upstairs space at Porro. As per when visiting this gem of the community - we had a blast - Food was served quickly and was delicious and such good quality. Service was superb - Karolina and Becky were brilliant and help set up all th decorative bits and supplier fantastic service thought-out. Highly recommended for intimate party or a celebration dinner! Diolch Porro

starter & main courses for both of us were not very good, not even average. My main, Mushroom Ravioli was way to salty. We both enjoyed the desserts. The service at the table was very good. Atmosphere was okay? Pity, as we both had heard that Porro was above average but this was not our experience so I would not return.

We spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon at this gem of a restaurant celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary with 30 family and friends. The food and service were first class and the staff couldn’t do enough for us especially the charming Simone. So glad we chose...

Cannot fault the service in this place! It was amazing , waitress was really friendly and professional and amazing with our 5 year old. The food was just delicious, the 2 course lunch menu is excellent value for money! The wild mushroom ravioli was superb!!! I will be recommending this place 100%.
