Poppies in City of London, Westminster

A bit disappointing. While the restaurant had great reviews for the fish and chips, the chicken was very dry and not tasty at all. Also had ordered an appetizer which ended up being served after our meals were served. Frankly, w have e seen much better prices for fish and chips in terms of quality and quantity while in London.

We booked for a group of 14 students , staff were brilliant , couldn’t have done any more to help. Food was really good too.

Funda and the Team was AMAZING! They were so kind and helpful! Love them and would totally come again!!! The food was delicious and so was the dessert!

Siamo andati con la famiglia a cena. Servizio con tempistica veloce, buon cibo apprezzato soprattutto da nostra figlia. Camerieri gentili, bagni puliti. Buona esperienza. Prezzi nella norma per la collocazione del locale.

Siamo stati da Poppies guidati dalle recensioni ed è stata una giusta idea visto che siamo stati benissimo. Personale accogliente e scherzoso, ambiente molto carino stile anni 50. Il menù offre tanti tipi di fish & Chips con tanti diversi abbinamenti. Noi siamo andati sul classico e i piatti erano davvero tutti ottimi. Il piatto viene accompagnato da una maionese al prezzemolo molto gustosa e servita in piccoli barattolini monodose. Lo consiglio sia per la qualità dei piatti sia per il personale.

The place is quite famous, a bit small and sometimes crowded, the food could be considered good and reasonable but nothing spectacular, I have had better in other else.

Posto molto caratteristico, soffitti bassi sale strette, tavoli molto vicini, una bella atmosfera. Da segnalare la gentilezza dello staff. Fish & Chips molto buono.

Prise en charge rapide pour avoir une table malheureusement le reste du service n'a pas été à la hauteur. Première fois pour ma part que je goûtais le fameux " fish & chips " de Londres, je m'attendais donc a quelque chose d'incontournable et suis donc arrivée au restaurant avec beaucoup d'attente. Eh bien, j'ai été très déçue. Très peu de frites, le poisson était froid au centre et avait un arrière goût de surgelé très fort en bouche. Les petits pois étaient certes bon, mais vraiment rien d'exceptionnel. Seul point positif ? La sauce tartare mais difficile de faire un repas qu'avec ça... Finalement, je n'ai pas fini mon assiette, mon amie non plus ( je précise que c'est une habituée de la nourriture anglaise et quelle avait plusieurs fois testé ce plat a différents endroits ). Pour une chaîne de restaurant qui revendique sur sa carte avoir des critères de qualités très précis, j'avoue ne pas comprendre. Je ne recommande pas cette chaîne de restaurant si vous voulez un vrai fish & chips privilégier plutôt les pubs traditionnelles qui font souvent des tarifs intéressants.

Ci hanno fatto pagare 7.1 pounds come mancia extra per il servizio, ma nessuno l’aveva richiesto, purtroppo l’ho notato tardi. Evitate questo ristorante !

Delicious. There are other items on the menu apart from Fish and Chips but go for the Fish and Chips as this is what they are known for. I had the regular cod. All meals come with chips and homemade tartare sauce. Portions are huge and filling. Food comes out quickly after ordering. I got seated immediately but went for an early dinner. They were busy. Nice place, like a USA diner type feel. Clean. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Also love the Black Jack sweets they give at the end when you pay. A trip down memory lane! Would recommend. Not cheap but worth a treat.

Une référence depuis 1952 On avait réservé mais celle ci a été perdue mais cela s est arrangé Fish & chips traditionnels. Ils sont excellents, services rapides et efficaces. Rien à redire, je conseille sans hésiter

Poppy’s fish and chips are the best we ever had excellent excellent excellent. The staff was very good and helpful. I’ve been dreaming about those fish and chips since we got back home. I wish it was around the corner from my house.

Had high hopes for Poppies. Sadly it didn't live up to the hype. For some reason they had no large Cod or Haddock so we ordered Standard size. Then 20 mins later the table full of blokes next to us magically ordered and received large cod !!??(after smoozing the giggling waitress). Our portion sizes were very small, where we come from it would be classed as a kids meal. The service was poor, the surroundings overcrowded and two noisy. They had the cheek to charge service charge, which we refused to pay. We left still hungry. I've included a picture of the small portion.

A decoração é colorida, onde se destacam os sofás azuis e o chão de azulejos laranjas e brancos. A carta apresenta o clássico britânico Fish & Chips, sendo a melhor e mais tradicional a opção de bacalhau. Este prato é maravilhoso, o bacalhau é fresco e macio, na fritura perfeita que lhe confere uma textura crocante. As batatas fritas também são maravilhosas, em corte grosso e com pouca gordura. O tradicional molho tártaro compõe o prato. Para além disso, tem também outras opções como frango. Bons vinhos e cervejas fazem parte da carta de bebidas. O serviço é rápido e eficiente. Recomendo!

Es un restaurante que pertenece a la cadena Poppies, muy famosa y con muy buena fama en Fish & Chips. Fuimos dos adultos y dos niñas sin reserva y nos tocó esperar en la cola pero a los 5/10 minutos entramos. La comida está muy buena y el precio es razonable. El personal fue muy amable.

Grosse déception. Tassés les uns sur les autres. Une salle sombre. Un personnel qui pousse vers la sortie et surtout un fish and chips avec un poisson sec et peu gouteux. Alors qu'il existe des Fishs and chips superbes, si vous pouvez éviter cela la, je vous le conseille.

Vraiment le meilleur fish and chips de Londres. Pour notre cinquième visite, nous avons laissé notre appli préférée nous guider. Excellent choix. Poisson frais et frites fondantes. Le personnel est sympathique même s'il est omniprésent pendant le repas. Expérience à refaire.

Stavamo cercando un posto proprio specializzato in Fish and Chips zona Soho e ci siamo imbattuti in Poppies. Una buonissima scoperta. Appena entrati si viene catapultati in un locale dallo stile vintage. Ci viene assegnato un tavolo molto piccolo per tre e dunque chiediamo di essere spostati e ci accontentano senza ribattere. La scelta menu è varia incentrata su pesce etc. Veloce il servizio e il cibo (con cucina a vista) ottimo davvero. Il costo un po' alto ma per il locale, la bontà e la posizione è corretto. Unico punto debole: i tavoli davvero troppo stretti e ravvicinati tra loro e non ci si ferma molto a chiacchiere dopo il pasto poiché è sempre pieno.

Tasty, pricy! We shared a plate of whitebait to start, the cheapest most abundant fish there are. For £6.95 we thought there’d be a big pile of them, but no exactly 10 tiny little fish. Gherkins and pickled onions £1.75 each! Food tasty though, nice decor too.

Really enjoyed the food, but the drinks were poor (watery beer and not Camden Hells as advertised, wine very poor). Biggest issue for me dining in was the expensive service charge of top of already high prices, not what I expect in a British Chippy. Stick to takeaway and you’ll be happy.

Bom fish and chips, gostávamos de ter experimentado a tarte, mas chegámos um pouco tarde e já não havia. Não é barato, mas é uma boa experiência.

We have been here before and will be back as the location and food are very good however on this occasion it was let down by the service. We pre-booked and were seated quickly. After we had all made our choices the waitress came back and at this point told us they had no cod. Now I don’t have a problem with them running out, it’s a good indication that it’s fresh but in a fish and chip restaurant tell us that when we are seated, it’s probably the most popular choice!! Some of us changed our selection and food arrived promptly and well presented. However, they were clearly over staffed and they were hovering and then cleared as people finished, while others were still eating!! Just don’t, it’s so rude, clear when EVERYONE has finished.

Locale che si sviluppa in lunghezza, sempre molto affollato e con coda all'ingresso, che comunque scorre velocemente. Buono il loro fish and chips, proposto con vari tipi di pesce e comunque apprezzato anche da chi, come me, non ama questa tipologia di piatto. Personale veloce e simpatico, buona anche la birra proposta; da provare almeno una volta!

Buon fish and chips ma tavoli attaccati da non riuscire nemmeno a passare. Confronto al numero di tavoli, troppo personale che va avanti e indietro ed appena appoggi la forchetta ti portano via il piatto per farti lasciare il tavolo. Per 18,50 sterline avrei preferito più pulizia e più tempo. Avendo letto un'altra recensione, mi sono ricordata della mancia che includono già nel conto ma non obbligatoria.

We went here to this supposed to be famous place. What a mistake. I had the fish and chips, and it was terrible, totally overcooked and dry fish with a very oily batter. The chunky chips were anything but crispy. The younger kid had the kids fish bite and it was same as mine. He almost didn’t tough it after trying one bite. And he eats a lot. Even the refill ketchup in the funny tomato shaped bottle on the table was bad, came out a lot of water first. Well, needed to shake it to get out some kind of ketchup. The older kid had 1/8 chicken, and I wonder, is a chicken leg 1/8 of a chicken? Anyhow it was dry, overcooked, tasteless too. So he also did not like his food. The lemonade the kids had was very good. My beer mediocre, tried the two drafts. Drinkable though.

As a place I like Poppies in Old Compton street, It has a good history and the slightly run-down feel of the place adds to the charm. Plus it's hellped by the Old Compton Street vibe. However the food is just ok, I love an old fashioned cod and chips and this just about did the job. Portions are smaller than your local chippy and that makes the price seem very expensive - which comparitively it is. And I'd defintely avoid the bread and butter - I was given stale loaf ends with what seemed like greasy margerine. Staff were friendly though and service was timely. One of those places you maybe just to once ina blue moon but for decent, fairly priced cod and chips, I'd stick to your local chippy!
