ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING the egg is pathetic

We had vouchers for another member of the chain, however that place was too busy, so we ventured down the road to the pontygwindy. The staff were friendly, great value and the food was fantastic.

After reading of new people taking over the pub and their plans, I was expecting an improvement to the last owners. Unfortunately my expectations fell flat! There was no discernable change to the tired décor or furniture, except for some chair covers on a few chairs. There is exposed copper pipes running down the walls, a burns hazard. We waited over 35 minutes for our food, the pub was not busy! The food itself was mediocre, when it arrived it looked as though it had been warmed up, though it only tasted okay! We won't be visiting again.

I've been a regular at the pontygwindy for a number of years and it's one of the best pubs...clean warm and team are welcoming and friendly. Good variety of choice for drinks and food at great prices defiantly staying at this establishment for the foreseeable future.

I personally cannot thank you both enough. Last week I was working away and unfortunately had to work late. I didn't fancy the hotels offerings and stopped in. Unfortunately I'd just missed the food service but I was given the option of a few easier meals to make. For a quick and easy meal, the steak and ale pie, chips and peas was not bad at all with a great pint of Guinness 👍 Thanks so much again and I'll be back if I m ever down your way again

We love this pub! Prices are reasonable, sports are shown regularly and the landlord is lovely. Paired with good food, we are lucky to have this pub in Caerphilly!

Really enjoyed my time at The Gwindy. Amazing friendly service and nice food! Prices are so reasonable. Staff go above and beyond to help. They show sports on multiple tv’s and did promotions for the six nations where there was free curry at half time!

Excellent staff and atmosphere. Fantastic for playing darts, having food and a nice night out.

Went for the rugby, plenty of screens to watch on and seating across the entire pub. Staff were great and the half time curry was amazing.

The food was pretty good, tbf. Also, the service. Really quite so able to have few games of darts. A few years ago used to be a really busy pub but not any more atmosphere is not great.

Absolutely dreadful. Booked Xmas day 2 -4. We had our starters just after 4 o’clock There were 18 of us and it was a nightmare. We were told tables down stairs were getting priority. When the food arrived it was really nice but it was also closer to 5pm. Several of our group left as desserts seemed to be far off. We were told the young server had to do them as the girl who was supposed to do them was refusing and throwing a paddy. Completely ruined Christmas Day we all ended up coming away without having desserts. We were also told we were being given what was left on our mains, some had Yorkshire some didn’t, some had good amount of turkey some very little. None of us had the extras we ordered..

Really friendly atmosphere, I really liked the interior of the pub. Amazing dog friendly place, even the dog had a meal with us! Beautiful food and very friendly and helpful staff. The best steak and ale pie I’ve ever had!! Our dog loved being made a fuss of by everyone. We’ll definitely be returning and we can’t wait to come back. :)

Went for christmas dinner. Average food. Waited ages between courses due to lack of staff. So disappointing & not worth the money.

Was OK surprised i couldn't order food as it stops at 7pm. Had a decent pint. sadly my table needed cleaning.

A quiet night in my van as it was near the garage i needed to use.. Free overnight stop in a level car park. 3 times I've had their fish, chips and mushy peas. Faultless

stayed here while travelling through S Wales on way back to Pembrokeshire. big flat carpark, stay at back away from road and it's nice and quiet. Under new management, great friendly laid back couple, good pub grub, good beer, great location for a 10 minute walk into town and Castle. ok about staying until afternoon enabling us to have a Wanda, I hope they do well, good luck to them, will use again and recommend to others.

Had a sirloin steak, came perfectly looked and good flavour, comes with side of chips, peas and onion rings all lovely. Atmosphere was calm and relaxing during the day, staff was excellent too, will be coming back!!

We chose the Pontygwindy as it was quite hard to find a genuinely dog friendly restaurant. The warm welcome, help offered and special treatment were fantastic. It really is a dog friendly venue. Both barlady and chef were brilliant, the food was fantastic, and prepared on great time. They were even able to provide a dish for the dog to eat his lunch too. A real gem if you want a friendly, clean, warm and welcoming dog friendly place to go.

Provides camper van space and allows overnight parking. Food is from Marstons menu and has good variety of meals. Good range of beers and well looked after. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Celebrated a special birthday here and they did not disappoint. Food lovely, staff lovely, atmosphere lovely. Even though it was a big party everones food came out one immediately after the other. No hanging around. Great service

We visited yesterday evening with friends, we all enjoyed our food and spent a lovely evening in the beer garden watching the kids play. The Pontygwindy is under new management, and they are both really welcoming and friendly. Good service, good food - we will definitely be returning customers. Thanks Tony, we will be back soon!

Went to pontygwyndy inn on Sunday,with my visitors from Kent ,had the most amazing time.the food was delicious and hot .lowrie and Tony are fantastic hosts .as was the bar staff and chef .so very helpful.was only staying for food and drink.but stayed for over 6 hours as we enjoyed it so much.was made to feel so welcome by everyone.thank you from the Kent visitors

Stayed the night in the car park in our campervans - need to be self contained. Very convenient spot and nice chats with the friendly owners☺️

Took my two autistic children there for some food , food was amazing asked for the one plate of chicken nuggets and chips not to be touching as my son won't eat it as none of his food can touch each other and that was no problem at all they really enjoyed themselves even had some games for the children to play with . The staff was very polite and very understanding definitely come again

We had a lovely time at the Pontygwindy, the owners were very welcoming when we arrived, we ordered the Thursday offer of an 8oz Rump and a pint for £11.75, both meals were served very quickly, and the steaks were cooked to perfection, and was piping hot, Josh, the trainee chef who cooked our food came out to see if everything was OK mid meal, which was a nice touch, a very polite, pleasant young man he was too. All in all, I can honestly say our experience was a very good one, if I had any negatives to say it would be the tables and chairs could do with updating.

Great welcoming pub,was meet by the new owners thay were friendly and welcoming,and who are Cardiff devil fans which is great to,the restaurant and bar was a nice size and very clean,the bar staff was very friendly,the food was lovely and the portions was good size,overall it was a lovely place would recommend this pub and definitely coming back,

Young lady who took our order and waited on us was very polite, courteous and friendly. Food although it took quite long as the restaurant was empty when we got there was worth the wait! I had the Cowboy Burger which was huge and the fries, there were plenty and they were good. My friend had the House Salad with chicken and bacon which was huge and she really enjoyed it. Overall a very pleasant evening and we'll definitely be coming back.

Surprised by the standard of the food being a Marston pub. Only judging that by the 2 local Maraton pubs which are awful. Food was good to be fair. Pub was empty hence lacking any atmosphere. Good seating area outside so thinking it'll be a good place to go on a summers day

No draught beers all the real ales were not available, it says on the signage ale house. The bar was very sticky as if it needed a clean.

The food, atmosphere and service is hard to beat. My wife and I so thoroughly enjoyed our initial visit that we've decided to make The Pontygwindy our local.

Good afternoon. I have no words to the experience we and others had today. 130 sit down. First order of drinks delivered at 1415. Order taken 1430 for food. No.roast dinners left at 1430. The opposite table we're complaining about their deserts. Another table next to them left. We ended up leaving. Food wasn't coming. We left at 1520. As we left there was another family that just finished food and as we were chatting said that was just horrible lucky you didn't order. That's 7 from our party. 4 left. 3 complained about deserts and the family who ate left disappointed. They were 4. That is 18 people you will not see again. I will not be going there ever. However as a business it needs to be let known to yourselves as it was the worst experience I have ever had. Thanks.

Ordered surf and turf again, have ordered many times before. This time it came covered in peppercorns. The steak and mushrooms were totally covered in peppercorns. This rendered it inedible to me. I was almost told off for being unable to eat it. It was eventually replaced but my wife meal was finished by then. Black pepper is an allergen that was not advertised or mentioned on the menu.

Went for a Sunday roast and the food was perfect, the two girls working were brilliant and even gave dumbo a treat (the dog). Will definitely be back again soon, thank you.

Great location, Only 1 member of staff on til doing drinks taking food orders fetching meals out and clearing tables was very unfair on valentine's night. Food was good Drinks not good experience ordered a moretti after an initial taste was like that's weird so tried a second sip was very fruity not what myself or my partner recognize as a fresh pint of moretti. The single member of staff explained noone else had problems maybe end of barrel but wouldn't repeat the moretti order refused to pull it off. But offered a substitute so we opted for peroni and that was even worse you could smell it before touching your lips I tried it and was nearly sick my partner spat it back into glass.

3.2.24 last Saturday. We were 9 people and had to order at the bar. Only 2 staff serving. Choice meals was limited to just 2 sirloin steaks only 1 mixed grill and all the burger meals were off. We had a long wait for our meals. The quality of the steaks was poor. One was inedible and the other not good. The 7 other meals were OK. Furniture is old a scruffy. Not up to usual Marstons standard. We won't go again.

We booked here for our Christmas Day meal and it was wonderful. The food was incredible. The staff were absolutely amazing despite pressures. Would definitely recommend.

Popped In for lunch with my daughter. There were 6 people in the bar area and about the same in the restaurant part. Loads of tables had empty plates on them as not cleaned away. Not a good look.Ordered sausage and mash, was told sorry we have any sausage or mash. So, I ordered gammon and chips. We also ordered lasagne, which comes with salad and garlic bread. You can also order a side of chips, which i ordered. Then, I asked for sparkling water and lemonade to be told sorry we don't have sparkling water, but you can have tap water. Food came very quickly and looked really good to the eye. We had to ask for cutlery as there wasn't any on the table. After several minutes, I asked for my garlic bread to be told I hadn't ordered garlic bread. I explained that I ordered the chips as an extra as the lasagne comes with garlic bread as per the menu. Only to be told I ordered the wrong lasagne it's the other one. Totally baffled me that one. Food was excellent, and I really enjoyed it. Lasagne was tasty and chips cooked as they should be crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Same for the gammon tasty and perfectly cooked. Would recommend the food, but not the pub. I remember when it was the original pontygwindy and then the beefeater. This could be a jewel with the restaurant area they have there.

Good pub, does not always have a full menu, but it's a pub and the beers good and the service is excellent

Booked a table for 3pm arrived around 2.40pm our table was pointed out to us ordered food at 2.50pm at the bar was told there was a wait but not how long food arrived after 50 mins wait only to discover we had been given the wrong order ..Young boy apologised for the mix up ..food was very nice and plentiful..would go again but hopefully quicker service next time

After waiting for an hour and they still hadn't cleared away our starters untill I got up to ask. We even pre order and the place is empty. Women's toilets were disgusting lock was destroyed on two of the doors and un unspeakable mess in the third. We also have only booked for 9 people and they couldn't even put us on the same table so we have peoples back facing us. The steak had obviously been cooked from frozen and they didn't even put lettuce in my burger. Towards the end of out meal the chefs started blaring their music which we loudly heard as we were next to the kitchen.

Good choice of food, and sirloin steak cooked just right. All food was prepared well, and service was very good. Would definitely go there again if in the area, and recommend it to anyone passing by.

What a lovely evening we had last Saturday for our son-in-law's birthday. Hannah and Kate looked after us well. Such pleasant ladies, pleasant surroundings and delicious food. Thank you, guys.

Reasonably priced food with great service

I called in today. The bar service was dreadfully slow. A young lady on her own struggling to cope. I only stayed for 1 pint because I couldn't go through the process of another long wait. The beer pipes are in desperate need of a clean.

Had a wonderful evening at "The Pontygwindy" in Caerphilly yesterday, where we decided to go to celebrate my husband's Birthday. The evening exceeded all my expectations with delicious food and exemplary service. Our group ordered a variety of meals and drinks and everything arrived in a timely fashion with no errors made on our orders. All the staff were wonderful and welcoming but Katie and Hannah went above and beyond to make sure that we didn't want for anything. All in all a wonderful night was had by all and I would not hesitate to recommend the establishment if you are looking for an enjoyable and reasonably priced family night out.

Lovely food, but not good service or atmosphere. Our order was wrong , even though I double checked, yet the food that came was wrong. This was quickly rectified though. Despite being almost empty nobody asked us at point were our meals okay. When we left the bar was deserted even by the staff member. It felt like nobody cared about customers being there or their experience. Sadly the service is letting this place down. Not sure we would return.

It's not too often i put negative reviews on here but this one is completely deserved. Took my family for Sunday lunch and waited over an hour for our food to arrive after we had ordered it. In that hour we witnessed people from 3 of the 6 occupied tables complaining about the food. I was just about to go and ask for a refund and leave when a very apologetic waitress came with our food. Now i really don't mind waiting for service if the food is worth the wait but everything was frozen and i could have knocked that microwaved lunch up in 20 minutes at home. We were given an extra bowl of frozen roast potatoes as an apology for the wait but I can assure you I'll never wait there again.

Dispite being empty, we Waited over 30 minutes for starter then the Starters were wrong and had to be returned. No one came to clear any glasses from the table the whole time we were there, we had to ask for them to be cleared medium rare steak was overcooked. Plain burger did not arrive plain... No table service, had to get up and go to order drinks even in the middle of eating. Not at all as good as the place used to be.

Arrived and shown tot the table promptly, left with a menu but not the one for Sunday lunch. Fetched the Sunday menu and waited to be served as we were not told any different (last time it was table service in the restaurant). After a while we went to the bar to order and told no beef left, only chicken or turkey, ordered one of each and then told only turkey left. Ordered 2 and extra roasted potatoes, food arrived 30 min later and was cold/lukewarm with no roasted potatoes, told the server and said they would be 10 minutes. They turned up hot on the outside and still frozen in the middle. We paid the bill and left.

Visited here a few times over past month with friends. Sometimes for food and others just for a drink. Best beer garden in Caerphilly! Kids play area keeps the little ones entertained! Food has always been lush each time!! No complaints there! Beer was ice cold and refreshing. Couldn’t fault anything and then new land lady was lovely and welcoming with a smile! Will defo be back, probably make it our new local AGAIN, like it was before covid! Keep up the good work.
