Had a sirloin steak, came perfectly looked and good flavour, comes with side of chips, peas and onion rings all lovely. Atmosphere was calm and relaxing during the day, staff was excellent too, will be coming back!!

We chose the Pontygwindy as it was quite hard to find a genuinely dog friendly restaurant. The warm welcome, help offered and special treatment were fantastic. It really is a dog friendly venue. Both barlady and chef were brilliant, the food was fantastic, and prepared on great time. They were even able to provide a dish for the dog to eat his lunch too. A real gem if you want a friendly, clean, warm and welcoming dog friendly place to go.

Fabulous meal at the Pontygwyndy this-evening. Everything cooked to perfection. Fabulous positive atmosphere. Very welcoming homely vibe. Staff couldn’t do enough for you. We will most defiantly be returning. Thank you gyes.

Provides camper van space and allows overnight parking. Food is from Marstons menu and has good variety of meals. Good range of beers and well looked after. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Celebrated a special birthday here and they did not disappoint. Food lovely, staff lovely, atmosphere lovely. Even though it was a big party everones food came out one immediately after the other. No hanging around. Great service

Went to pontygwyndy inn on Sunday,with my visitors from Kent ,had the most amazing time.the food was delicious and hot .lowrie and Tony are fantastic hosts .as was the bar staff and chef .so very helpful.was only staying for food and drink.but stayed for over 6 hours as we enjoyed it so much.was made to feel so welcome by everyone.thank you from the Kent visitors

We visited yesterday evening with friends, we all enjoyed our food and spent a lovely evening in the beer garden watching the kids play. The Pontygwindy is under new management, and they are both really welcoming and friendly. Good service, good food - we will definitely be returning customers. Thanks Tony, we will be back soon!

Stayed the night in the car park in our campervans - need to be self contained. Very convenient spot and nice chats with the friendly owners☺️

Took my two autistic children there for some food , food was amazing asked for the one plate of chicken nuggets and chips not to be touching as my son won't eat it as none of his food can touch each other and that was no problem at all they really enjoyed themselves even had some games for the children to play with . The staff was very polite and very understanding definitely come again

We had a lovely time at the Pontygwindy, the owners were very welcoming when we arrived, we ordered the Thursday offer of an 8oz Rump and a pint for £11.75, both meals were served very quickly, and the steaks were cooked to perfection, and was piping hot, Josh, the trainee chef who cooked our food came out to see if everything was OK mid meal, which was a nice touch, a very polite, pleasant young man he was too. All in all, I can honestly say our experience was a very good one, if I had any negatives to say it would be the tables and chairs could do with updating.

Great welcoming pub,was meet by the new owners thay were friendly and welcoming,and who are Cardiff devil fans which is great to,the restaurant and bar was a nice size and very clean,the bar staff was very friendly,the food was lovely and the portions was good size,overall it was a lovely place would recommend this pub and definitely coming back,

Young lady who took our order and waited on us was very polite, courteous and friendly. Food although it took quite long as the restaurant was empty when we got there was worth the wait! I had the Cowboy Burger which was huge and the fries, there were plenty and they were good. My friend had the House Salad with chicken and bacon which was huge and she really enjoyed it. Overall a very pleasant evening and we'll definitely be coming back.

Surprised by the standard of the food being a Marston pub. Only judging that by the 2 local Maraton pubs which are awful. Food was good to be fair. Pub was empty hence lacking any atmosphere. Good seating area outside so thinking it'll be a good place to go on a summers day

No draught beers all the real ales were not available, it says on the signage ale house. The bar was very sticky as if it needed a clean.

The food, atmosphere and service is hard to beat. My wife and I so thoroughly enjoyed our initial visit that we've decided to make The Pontygwindy our local.

Good afternoon. I have no words to the experience we and others had today. 130 sit down. First order of drinks delivered at 1415. Order taken 1430 for food. No.roast dinners left at 1430. The opposite table we're complaining about their deserts. Another table next to them left. We ended up leaving. Food wasn't coming. We left at 1520. As we left there was another family that just finished food and as we were chatting said that was just horrible lucky you didn't order. That's 7 from our party. 4 left. 3 complained about deserts and the family who ate left disappointed. They were 4. That is 18 people you will not see again. I will not be going there ever. However as a business it needs to be let known to yourselves as it was the worst experience I have ever had. Thanks.

Ordered surf and turf again, have ordered many times before. This time it came covered in peppercorns. The steak and mushrooms were totally covered in peppercorns. This rendered it inedible to me. I was almost told off for being unable to eat it. It was eventually replaced but my wife meal was finished by then. Black pepper is an allergen that was not advertised or mentioned on the menu.

Went for a Sunday roast and the food was perfect, the two girls working were brilliant and even gave dumbo a treat (the dog). Will definitely be back again soon, thank you.

Great location, Only 1 member of staff on til doing drinks taking food orders fetching meals out and clearing tables was very unfair on valentine's night. Food was good Drinks not good experience ordered a moretti after an initial taste was like that's weird so tried a second sip was very fruity not what myself or my partner recognize as a fresh pint of moretti. The single member of staff explained noone else had problems maybe end of barrel but wouldn't repeat the moretti order refused to pull it off. But offered a substitute so we opted for peroni and that was even worse you could smell it before touching your lips I tried it and was nearly sick my partner spat it back into glass.

3.2.24 last Saturday. We were 9 people and had to order at the bar. Only 2 staff serving. Choice meals was limited to just 2 sirloin steaks only 1 mixed grill and all the burger meals were off. We had a long wait for our meals. The quality of the steaks was poor. One was inedible and the other not good. The 7 other meals were OK. Furniture is old a scruffy. Not up to usual Marstons standard. We won't go again.

We booked here for our Christmas Day meal and it was wonderful. The food was incredible. The staff were absolutely amazing despite pressures. Would definitely recommend.

Popped In for lunch with my daughter. There were 6 people in the bar area and about the same in the restaurant part. Loads of tables had empty plates on them as not cleaned away. Not a good look.Ordered sausage and mash, was told sorry we have any sausage or mash. So, I ordered gammon and chips. We also ordered lasagne, which comes with salad and garlic bread. You can also order a side of chips, which i ordered. Then, I asked for sparkling water and lemonade to be told sorry we don't have sparkling water, but you can have tap water. Food came very quickly and looked really good to the eye. We had to ask for cutlery as there wasn't any on the table. After several minutes, I asked for my garlic bread to be told I hadn't ordered garlic bread. I explained that I ordered the chips as an extra as the lasagne comes with garlic bread as per the menu. Only to be told I ordered the wrong lasagne it's the other one. Totally baffled me that one. Food was excellent, and I really enjoyed it. Lasagne was tasty and chips cooked as they should be crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Same for the gammon tasty and perfectly cooked. Would recommend the food, but not the pub. I remember when it was the original pontygwindy and then the beefeater. This could be a jewel with the restaurant area they have there.

Good pub, does not always have a full menu, but it's a pub and the beers good and the service is excellent

Booked a table for 3pm arrived around 2.40pm our table was pointed out to us ordered food at 2.50pm at the bar was told there was a wait but not how long food arrived after 50 mins wait only to discover we had been given the wrong order ..Young boy apologised for the mix up ..food was very nice and plentiful..would go again but hopefully quicker service next time

After waiting for an hour and they still hadn't cleared away our starters untill I got up to ask. We even pre order and the place is empty. Women's toilets were disgusting lock was destroyed on two of the doors and un unspeakable mess in the third. We also have only booked for 9 people and they couldn't even put us on the same table so we have peoples back facing us. The steak had obviously been cooked from frozen and they didn't even put lettuce in my burger. Towards the end of out meal the chefs started blaring their music which we loudly heard as we were next to the kitchen.

Good choice of food, and sirloin steak cooked just right. All food was prepared well, and service was very good. Would definitely go there again if in the area, and recommend it to anyone passing by.

What a lovely evening we had last Saturday for our son-in-law's birthday. Hannah and Kate looked after us well. Such pleasant ladies, pleasant surroundings and delicious food. Thank you, guys.

Reasonably priced food with great service

I called in today. The bar service was dreadfully slow. A young lady on her own struggling to cope. I only stayed for 1 pint because I couldn't go through the process of another long wait. The beer pipes are in desperate need of a clean.

Had a wonderful evening at "The Pontygwindy" in Caerphilly yesterday, where we decided to go to celebrate my husband's Birthday. The evening exceeded all my expectations with delicious food and exemplary service. Our group ordered a variety of meals and drinks and everything arrived in a timely fashion with no errors made on our orders. All the staff were wonderful and welcoming but Katie and Hannah went above and beyond to make sure that we didn't want for anything. All in all a wonderful night was had by all and I would not hesitate to recommend the establishment if you are looking for an enjoyable and reasonably priced family night out.

Lovely food, but not good service or atmosphere. Our order was wrong , even though I double checked, yet the food that came was wrong. This was quickly rectified though. Despite being almost empty nobody asked us at point were our meals okay. When we left the bar was deserted even by the staff member. It felt like nobody cared about customers being there or their experience. Sadly the service is letting this place down. Not sure we would return.

It's not too often i put negative reviews on here but this one is completely deserved. Took my family for Sunday lunch and waited over an hour for our food to arrive after we had ordered it. In that hour we witnessed people from 3 of the 6 occupied tables complaining about the food. I was just about to go and ask for a refund and leave when a very apologetic waitress came with our food. Now i really don't mind waiting for service if the food is worth the wait but everything was frozen and i could have knocked that microwaved lunch up in 20 minutes at home. We were given an extra bowl of frozen roast potatoes as an apology for the wait but I can assure you I'll never wait there again.

Dispite being empty, we Waited over 30 minutes for starter then the Starters were wrong and had to be returned. No one came to clear any glasses from the table the whole time we were there, we had to ask for them to be cleared medium rare steak was overcooked. Plain burger did not arrive plain... No table service, had to get up and go to order drinks even in the middle of eating. Not at all as good as the place used to be.

Arrived and shown tot the table promptly, left with a menu but not the one for Sunday lunch. Fetched the Sunday menu and waited to be served as we were not told any different (last time it was table service in the restaurant). After a while we went to the bar to order and told no beef left, only chicken or turkey, ordered one of each and then told only turkey left. Ordered 2 and extra roasted potatoes, food arrived 30 min later and was cold/lukewarm with no roasted potatoes, told the server and said they would be 10 minutes. They turned up hot on the outside and still frozen in the middle. We paid the bill and left.

Just popped in for a drink while waiting for the car to be cleaned. We didn't eat but the food did look delicious

Visited here a few times over past month with friends. Sometimes for food and others just for a drink. Best beer garden in Caerphilly! Kids play area keeps the little ones entertained! Food has always been lush each time!! No complaints there! Beer was ice cold and refreshing. Couldn’t fault anything and then new land lady was lovely and welcoming with a smile! Will defo be back, probably make it our new local AGAIN, like it was before covid! Keep up the good work.

Hadn't been in for a while and came back around 6 weeks ago for some food. Food is so much better and have even made it a weekly thing with the work lot to pop in for burger Tuesdays. Couldn't recommend enough.

just been here for food and had the worst experience I've had in a long time. We ordered a burger meal and a mixed grill, the waitress brought out the food which was a chicken burger and mixed grill which we accepted. What we didn't notice is that the burger meal was a chicken burger and nit beef and the mixed grill was a large. After starting to eat our food the bar staff came out and said sorry but we gave you the wrong food. We thought OK no problem mistakes happen. We asked should we stop eating it she said no it's OK il sort it out. She then came back out and said we had to pay the difference which of course we wasn't happy to do as it was your mistake. The manager then came out and said were not cooking your sides now until you pay the difference. When we tried to have our say and that we wasn't happy they made out we was being rude and asked us to leave. All that over what was £7 in total. £1 extra for the chicken burger meal and £6 for the mixed grill. We'll done girls, bad review for £7 at your own fault. Very rare i leave a bad review but i dont think ive ever been asked to pay for a restaurants mistske, unheard of! The female manager and her female bar staff were extremely rude about the situation. Would not recommend this place and won't go there again. No wonder it was empty!

Decided to pop out for some lunch today, and my gosh what a lovely friendly environment. Service was excellent, All staff were smiling and polite no matter the customer!! Despite our lovely afternoon, it was such a shame to see two men shout and be so rude to the young girls at the bar. We were sat near to where everything was being said, and were very impressed with how the management team handled the situation, especially with how abrupt these men were being. It was such a shame to see the staff intimidated when all they were doing was being friendly and trying to resolve a situation. Overall lovely experience, hope those two are banned and cause no further issues.

The Staff were really friendly and accommodated our large party of 12 and 1 puppy. The food was delicious. Couldn't fault the evening.

Had rump steak with handful chips 2 onion rings and over cooked mushrooms was OK just warm couldn't find any mayonnaise that had any in won't be returning

Overall our experience wasn’t the best, we had to change tables 4 times as they were filthy, full of sauce, drinks, salt and loads of crumbs and loads of food on the floor so we moved somewhere else but still had the same issue - we only need a handful of people there and it was pretty early in the afternoon. Couldn’t drink out of the glasses as mine had lip marks/food stuck to the glass, were really misty and didn’t look clean - same goes for the cutlery. My food (hunters chicken was very dry) However the staff were lovely and friendly, and food was cheap.

The first week of the new landlord, the food was very good. I just hope he gets local support to survive in this present-day financial environment

Meet my daughter there every Christmas Eve for lunch. Always decent pub food and good atmosphere

My partner and I called in today for lunch. The lady that served us was really friendly and polite. Unfortunately the meal I order which was sausage and mash was of extreme poor quality. The sausages looked liked they’d been cooked three or four times over, basically shrivelled and dry. The mash I believe was smash accompanied with a small amount of gravy that apparently contained red onion. There was no sign of the onion. I really struggled to eat any of this meal today. We won’t be returning to this pub.

Really disappointed with our meal on Christmas day. Soup was luke warm, the butter placed on the plate had melted and the bread was swimming in it. Had clearly been under a hotplate. Not sure why anyone thought that was acceptable to serve. 6 x soups all the same. Main was just OK. Dessert was a heap of mess. Service was slow and poor despite hardly anyone being there.Asked for an Irish coffee to be told they don't sell Irish coffee?!! Good job we have a sense of humour. Eaten out at Christmas every year for the last 30 years or so. Worst we've ever had I'm afraid.

Went for a evening meal and drinks , all our food was superbly cooked, and served excellently, the drinks range is wide and something for everyone. Spoke to the staff and landlord Shaun who were all extremely polite and courteous. The pub is very clean with rustic feel and perfect atmosphere. Best place for a nice meal and drink in Caerphilly. Brilliant place food and service is excellent

Went here for my birthday. To say a disappointment was an understatement. Ordered 10 meals, 4 were unavailable, then ordered other meals, some items on them were unavailable. Had food. Was ok, ordered deserts, not available. I know its the xmas period but it was 7:00pm on a Saturday, pub was not full, and a group of 30 was due in after us?

We had our work team Christmas meal at the Pontygwindy this year and we could not have asked for anything more. Staff and manager were great, food was amazing and all at such reasonable prices. Thank you for a great meal. We'll definitely be back.

No heating on only electric heaters here and there, gorgeous fish and chips and good beers, needs the brewery to invest more for the future, don't want to lose the pub, also Christmas lunch is one of the priciest in Caerphilly!!

Come here often and always have good food and service,but unfortunately the last two times have been disappointing. Service has been disapointing. slow and when orders have been taken the food has come back wrong. 4 meals ordered and 2 of them came back unsatisfactory missing the scampi on the surf and turf which came 20 minutes after the meal itself. Plain burger ordered which came with cheese and resulted in a further 30 minute wait. By the time it came the other person's had finished there meal. Not good enough when your out for a family meal. Sat there for a further 30 minutes and no staff came to offer dessert as they usually do. Very disappointing visit again as I know they can, and have done so much better in the past.

Went here today for a Family Christmas Festive 3 course meal and what can I say it was absolutely amazing. The food was cooked to perfection. The service was amazing the staff are just so friendly as they are always. Was a pleasure to take all my family here as they are not from the area and they all went home very happy. Looking forward now to my works Christmas meal here now soon 😍😍😍

Walked in and we were welcomed with a trio at a table that were staring at us like we were the entertainment. Seriously rude and even leaned back and forced the fact they were doing it. Some people can be amusing and pathetic. Ordered food a week in advance. Some couple of dishes they did not have and gave a lasagna when Hunters chicken was ordered (on the night). 3 streaks, 2 sirloin and 1 rump were very over done and like leather. Sweet potato fries were ordered by a 2 of is and they aren't given. Steak was left to go cold and then taken back to kitchen to bring it sweet potato fries. Only reason did not send did back was it was not worth the hassle after everything was messed up at service. I did mention at the bar that it was Advil but nothing was said or done. Never again or not a place to be visited.

Just come back from here the food was lovely and the staff very professional too will be back next week to try the Xmas lunch
