Quality pub grub. Served quick. Friendly staff. Sunday carvery is the best!

Food piping hot and well cooked, though battered fish slightly overcooked for our taste. Tea made from a boiler so water not boiling & only 1 size cup which is quite large - my elderly mother found the tea went cold too quickly as a result, the pot was also only lukewarm when she poured second cup. Other than that a lovely experience & would recommend & have returned.

A simple but delicious lunch! Went to the Otter for lunch on saturday and had a jacket potato with chilli. It came with a delicious side salad. Would definitely have it again. The restaurant was busy but the staff were still attentive. Top marks for a lovely lunch. Thank you

As always we were made to feel very welcome by all of the staff, nothing is ever too much trouble and our food was lovely.

The previous time a few years ago, the pub was dark, the service slow and the food was never right. Now after a time away it's like a completely different place. The menu could use some work for non meat eaters but the pints where lovely and the food quality , which is more important was really good! Also the staff where friendly and quick / attentive. I chose a great time to visit and had a very welcome experience. I had previously put off going there. Great job team!

It was for a 50th birthday meal. My husband hardly ever dines out but thoroughly enjoyed the meal as did everyone else. The service is second to none. Please pass our gratitude the staff were amazing even when arriving making sure we had plenty of room to manoeuvre with the wheelchair. I highly recommend your establishment and the food was amazing thank you all for a fantastic evening.

An outstanding pub/restaurant with staff that go above and beyond. The facilities are immaculate as is the service. A fantastic selection of drinks with one of the nicest beer gardens in the area. All in all, a wonderful place to visit with the family, meet up with friends or enjoy to a solo pint served by an incredibly accommodating team. Top class.

Lovely meal and staff are on top of there game

The pub looks run down with sticky menus, broken lights and chunks of paint missing on the walls. Not enough staff, nobody came and asked if our meals were ok or if we were happy with them. When we arrived other tables were full of empty plates and glasses as they needed to be cleared after the last guests and they were not cleared by the time we left which was about an hour. Food is average for the price and it was a disappointment coming out…. Plates were worn and needed to be replaced and there was no garnish or side salad on the plates. I had hunters chicken which had hardly any cheese or bbq sauce so wasn’t as expected. My partner had the steak and ale pie…. Hardly any filling in the pie… there were only 2 chunks of meat in the whole thing. Drinks are also very expensive

I ordered a beer which had been contaminated by cleaning fluid. Once you've got that taste in your mouth that's all you can taste. Was given a replacement but it just tasted of fluid also, so I just left.

The chilli con carne or should I say excuse for it was so small and unappetising I sent it back! Literally looked like a cat's dinner but smaller!

The restaurant was lovely and clean, we was told the wait on food was 45mins, the food arrived well before 45mins which was a positive. We stayed for drinks after and didn't feel rushed from our table. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Popped in for a quick pint to kill some time, great warming atmosphere with friendly staff. Will definitely come back with the family for food as this looked and smelt delicious. Ensure to enter your reg on entry to avoid any parking tickets.

will never go again, thanks to the useless staff at this place, I got a parking ticket when i came here for a meal, they did not inform me I had to give my reg, and the signage is very small, so because of my poor eyesight I could not read the small signs, it appears this company discriminates against people with disabilities, and just wants to make as much money out of people as possible, the place is a joke.

Everything was great. Food was tasty, cooked well. Service was great, plenty of staff of hand and much better experience than the bumble bee in Blackwood

Service was slow to start took 5 mins to be greeted When we were served it was "average" When the food arrived the pulled pork with the nachos was so small it was literally a dollop. The sauces were ice cold as they've just come from the fridge. The prawn cocktail was no better. Just lettuce and prawn now cucumber or tomato. When the mains arrived the burger was burnt and very dry and tasteless. The macaroni wasn't much better very greasy and tasteless. It all seemed as if it was all prepared earlier that day and just microwaved to serve. No atmosphere very cold and drab

Load of crap had better meals at McDonald's couldn't even be bothered to put a bit of salad with my garlic mushrooms starter and my wife's chicken wings l. The I've had better chips from aldis spent over £60 never again second 1 star review

We were seated very quickly at our table and the staff were lovely. I asked about a cracker as our 5 year old had seen them on another table and a cracker, treat bag and straw was brought over which was lovely. The food was lovely although we had to remind them we were waiting on garlic bread which came quickly after that. I would remark that your app needs updating as not all food items on the menu and available were in the app.

OMG they had fish finger sandwiches with chips on the menu....myself and a friend really enjoyed these. Lovely place, possibly busy at certain times, we did manage to park, make sure to log your car reg when you go in. The take blue light discount cards too.

Very friendly staff. I ordered off the Festive Menu, Turkey dinner and Christmas Pudding. It was very tasty and hot. The only down side was the parsnips were burnt, but apart from that it was very nice

Been to this pub for the second time in a week,first time was told there was no coffee no mixed grill settled for another meal which was quite nice, so decided to go back this week looked at the menu and chose fish and chips only to be told that was;t available wont be back.

We came here Saturday afternoon we had gammon the price was £11.99 and it came with Pineapple and an egg, peas and the most beautiful tasting Chips we have ever had they were so tasty they had like a crispiness in them. I even asked the lady who served us how they cooked them but she didn't know so I said ok and to say a thank you to the chef I was hoping she would have asked the chef but im sure she was busy and didn't have time to go and ask . Anyway the food was so tasty we didn't want to come to the end it was that lovely the gammon was thick and goergous. We had a beautiful meal in a very clean place with exceptionally clean toilets . If you read my reviews you know i say clean toilets, clean kitchens so honestly you won't be disappointed give them ago. Thank you to the Chef and staff at the Otter x

Given that this was pub grub on a busy Saturday evening we were most impressed.

The food came out quick, hot and very tasty. The staff was friendly and pleasant.

Haven't been for 3 years due to how bad it was last time and realised today why. Ordered mega mixed grill to be told we don't have that but you can have a normal one. (The mega is exactly the same just more on it) Food came out and it was Luke warm except the chicken breast which was stone cold to the point I couldn't eat it. The piece of steak was better served in a stew it was that small and dry. Chips and peas were decent but everything was cold even though it wasn't busy. Don't bother going here it's shocking go to the pottery in nantgarw instead much much better food and cheaper.

Parking was easy, don’t forget to put your car reg on the screen as you walk in, when me and my friends walked in we was greeted by staff at the bar who was very welcoming, we sat outside in the sun it was beautiful after they had redecorated as well, they even had blankets if it got chilly, the menu looked amazing and I wanted more than one thing and good prices too!, the food was stunning I like the idea of fries instead of chips with some meals!, it was clean, tidy, friendly, food was lovely and it was a really nice birthday meal for my 29th! Second review as we visited again 😄 - went with my family, staff were lovely and friendly, food came out at the same time piping hot and tasty! The Manager Cae is brilliant and excellent customer service, I would highly recommend this place, I am yet to try a roast dinner on Sunday 😋….

You would expect better at busier trading times. Limited menu is something we have come to expect but having to chase down drinks orders at an empty bar and Luke warm food is just unacceptable at an established place like this. My last 2 visits have been the same and we have left unsatisfied and reluctant to return. If it were busy or late I could understand but it was not.

Genuinely welcomed by lovely friendly team when you arrive. Great choice of drinks. Very varied menu. Food was tasty and good value for money. Definitely going here again, shame it's too far to be a regular place for us.

Sunday carvery The meal in it self was OK but the roast vegetables were very hard (under cooked)also the stuffing was like rock we do eat here on a regular basis and the meals are excellent may think twice about carvery though

lovely food mixed grill cooked just as I liked it

Greasy sausages dripping with fat, overcooked corn on the cob, tiny burger, cold fries, over cooked fish fingers and chicken strips. Plus Mac and cheese was a tiny bowl for £14! Turned my stomach!

I was really disappointed with the manager on shift today. Firstly my husband asked if there was a certain ale on draft, and the young man at the bar said no. The female manager interjected and said its never been on tap, which my husband explained it was on when we came in the past. She said "well we have not had it on tap since forever". He didn't reply and we had our food. Which was lovely. However towards the end of our food the waitress was serving the table next to us their meals. There was an issue with one of their meals, and the female customer explained she'd asked for different sides. We saw the lady pass the plate back to the waitress. A few moments later, the manager came over and said that she had unacceptably been rude to the waitress, who was crying, and asked her to finish her food and leave immediately. The customer explained she wasn't rude, and she's upset if the waitress is upset. But the manager insisted that she must have done something wrong to make her cry. The atmosphere for the surrounding tables was really uncomfortable for atleast 10 mins whilst the manager continued to speak over the customer. The customer asked if we witnessed her shout at the waitress. To which I explained she certainly didn't shout. I then explained to the manager that it was poor customer service to tell someone to leave only hearing one side of the story. She tried to explain that the staff member was not crying for no reason. To which I said, even if the customer was shouting, it's poor management to not ask her what happened before effectively kicking her out. The manager huffed and turned her back on me. In the 10 to 15 min loud, uncomfortable discussion, the customers food went cold... her family had finished their food, so she asked for trays to take her meal away and then left. I have never witnessed a manager treat a customer so appallingly as I did tonight. The customer, luckily, didn't get upset or irate. She just packed her food up, grabbed her crutch and left. Yes, your manager was totally unprofessional towards a disabled customer, and made multiple patrons uncomfortable with her abrupt, argumentative and condescending attitude. I really hope if this woman gets in touch that you rightly refund her for her meal (the manager offered to replace her meal, but not refund). I also hope this member of your team is spoken to about her behaviour. It was unreasonably handled and certainly ruined my evening. I was out celebrating my 40th birthday with my children and husband, and it was such a shame. Please, do better.

Didn't visit for a long time as I'd had a few unsatisfactory experiences. A friend recommended trying it since the new management and I'm so glad i did. I've been several times since and I've never been disappointed. The food is great value for the money and the staff are some of the friendliest and most welcoming people I've ever met. Looking forward to the next visit already.

Really enjoyed my food here and the service from the staff was top notch also! You can definitely tell this place is well run as they take pride in there work. I live a 40 minute drive from Newbridge and it's definitely worth the tine travelling. I will be recommending this pub to everyone.

Recently visited for Sunday carvery.Good selection of meat and vegetables available.Food was very good quality. The bar staff and serving staff particularly the chef at the carvery were all very friendly and attentive.I would certainly recommend this venue for a Sunday roast and will be visiting again soon

Had an amazing time at The Otter! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the staff is super friendly, and the drinks are top-notch. Perfect spot for a nice meal or a fun drinks out. Definitely a 5-star experience—can't wait to come back!

On this particular visit the meat was of poor quality. The beef was fatty with sinews throughout and was difficult to cut and chew. This wasn't helped by the fact that it was served in slabs rather than slices. It was a little easier to cut when we requested steak knives to help with the process. The pork was also very fatty, even for pork and only half of the chunk of meat served was not fat. I also found that the vegetables on this visit were also a little bland but this was not a big issue in itself as there was salt and pepper available. This visit won't stop me coming again as the previous 2 visits over the last 6 weeks were exceptionally good and I had recommended a visit to friends. I just hope they did not attend on this Sunday. I will visit for a carvery again but if thefood is of of same poor quality I would be reluctant to consider visiting after that.

Can't recommend this place highly enough. Food is delicious service is fantastic. The staff couldn't do enough for us and were extremely welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is warm and welcome and we will be return soon.

Beware. Had popped in and had food with the family. Usually come here as it's a great local. Bit had a parking ticket come theough. Even though i put my details in the computer. I've contested it and spoke to the staff but they said it's nothing they can do. The parking company are scaremongering in taking us to court.
