I booked this as a pre shoot stay. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. I arrived after a 2 hour drive to be told that I couldn't eat in as there was a wake happening, and the bar closes at 8pm... I was directed to a decent food pub 5 minutes away, which was helpful. I would have liked to have just checked in, had a few beers and a simple meal without having to go out. Otherwise, it's comfortable.

We returned to this restaurant after having very good experiences in the past. We arrived for a 12pm sitting. Our drinks orders were taken and did not arrive til staff was prompted after 20-30 mins. We had already noticed what resembled our order at the bar sat for much of this period, which became apparent when it was brought over after this prompting. That should have been a warning. By 1.50 our food still had not arrived. We asked when our food was coming as we had very hungry children and was assured ours was next out. This was a lie, as a table before us continued to be served, then another table which ordered after us (but took the initiative and complained sooner), and then ANOTHER table. At this point it we had been seated for over 2 hours and had enough and informed staff we were leaving. They were apologetic but only when approached. No one came to us to reassure us, or apologise or even offer us drinks for our extreme wait. But the staff were perfect happy to SELL us more drinks. Even after approaching who appeared to be a senior member of staff this was delegated to someone more junior who could only apologise. After leaving it was clear no where else would be available for mothers day at such short notice. A real shame and an absolute disappointment of a ruined day. Even though they were clearly over their head with the 12pm sitting the road both sides were backed up with cars arriving for the 2pm sitting. People were stood around in any available space to try and get seated for tables that were clearly unavailable. Cars could not get in and out of the car park! Due to the slow service it looked like they had the entirety of 2 sittings at once! I'm not sure how prepared they were for this day but it appeared they had grossly overbooked and greatly underestimated the task

We were very pleased indeed with this booking; very professional and family friendly from start to finish. Our table was thoughtfully placed to accommodate our large family party of 16 including 5 children and our Christmas Lunch table looked fabulous! Our food was served quickly and efficiently by very polite staff and was absolutely beautiful. We had preordered our food and provision for the children's meals and a wheat/ dairy free diet requirement was well catered for. All courses were very well presented, plentiful and delicious! We very much enjoyed our visit and would book immediately for next year given the opportunity. Great food, service and atmosphere - a job very well done by all involved. All areas of the restaurant, bar, toilets etc were beautifully decorated, furnished, clean and welcoming. So lovely to have such a wonderful hotel on our doorstep!

My husband and I decided to try the early birds menu Wednesday evening. Firstly we had a problem with deciphering what were starters and what were the main meal on the chalked blackboard, they were all mixed up.Secondly were seated under a speaker where the music was blaring out and we could not hear ourselves speak although the pub was reasonably emptyThirdly the Spare Ribs I ordered were burnt within a inch of their lives and then covered with a thick brown sauce which tasted foul. I spent most of the meal spitting out burnt bits of meat. On pointing this out to the "Matra Disinterested" she said she would tell the chef!!!Rubbish food/rubbish response to a disastrous meal. Shall not be returning.

Been here a couple of times in the past three weeks. The service is good and friendly. The food is better than average, with a varied specials board, so there appears to be a good choice. Tonight they had pheasant, duck and sea bass, all very well cooked with some thought gone into presentation and cooking.Whilst not to Michelin standard or fine dining, it is a good halfway between standard pub fare and more formal dining, this reflects in the price. Worth giving it a go.

my partner and i first came to the poachers for a meal a year ago, our aim was to establish weather or not the poachers would be suitable to hold our civil partnership... i can confirm it was, our first visit was to inspect the surroundings, taste the fine dining and experience the service and friendliness of the staff. well they exceeded our expectations. the food was awesome, all local produce that was cooked to perfection. service was professional and nothing was too much trouble(i needed a cushion as i am disabled and a little on the short side). was treated with utmost respect and made to feel welcome.the poachers was like a tardis looked small on the outside..once inside the place was full of hidden gems, the snug for example was comfy and private, the area where the ceremonies take place absolutely beautiful. then we arranged to see the wedding organizer she was very easy to talk to, we discussed options, got answers to questions and set our mind at ease with any worries we had.from this we decided this was to be the place we pledged our love.this year we went back for another meal the eve b4 our big day and so did most of my family.. we all enjoyed the early bird menu... there were at least 12 of us and with drinks the bill was extremely reasonable..in fact i was shocked it didn't cost more than what it did.(that was a surprise). :) the hotel rooms were lovely, the beds comfortable and all my guests stated they were impressed with the poachers and had a wonderful stay. the celebrations were well planned which meant the day ran smoothly and certainly will be a day to remember for a long time to come.we have fell in love with the place and the staff there so are planning to return for another taste of the menu very soon. To start the wedding was a beautiful occassion, with Sally the planner helping my sister to together make it so special. The food was absolutely perfect, the pate is the best I've ever had, fresh local veg and gorgeous desserts. Evening buffet excellent, none of the usual sausage rolls but fresh and proper cooking, absolutely fantastic could not fault it. Full of flavour and perfect portions that leave you full but not sickly bloated. The bar was very reasonably priced, when they could have charged extortionate prices. The accomodation is excellent too, breakfast the next day made to order with plentiful juices and cereal. I couldn't fault anything about this place as a hotel, restaurant, bar or wedding location. Perfect.

We booked a table at The Poachers as we had heard good things...what a total let down! The service was appalling from start to finish, lots of staff but no one, including the lady who I assume was the manager knew what on earth they were doing. The place is lovely inside but we had to ask to move into the bar snug area next to fire because the restraunt was so cold...on a Friday evening. We were taken to our table and then waited a furher 35 minutes before our starter arrived, which was bazarr. No drinks or a wine menu were offered to us throughout the meal, I did manage to get the attention of a rather flustered waitress who brought one on request. The white wine list was very limited and the Sauvignon blanc I orderd was awful! The starters of Mussels and mushrooms were very nice when they did arrive but the mains were a again a let down. My husbands chicken was dry and my beef, although beautifully tender but over seasoned with salt, which was a real shame. The problems just continued, when we were brought the wrong dessret menu which had a choice of 3 desserts? Another waitress came to table seconds after we had ordered and stated we had been given the 'early bird' menu by mistake but instead of telling our waitress, she just let her bring the chocolate brownie 10 minutes later...which had been microwaved for that long it actually resembled and tasted like HOT chocolate sponge cake. The evening ended with an overcharge of £10 on the bill....I never really check a bill in a restaurant but felt the need due to the complete disorganisation!!! In our opinion The Poachers has nothing on The Barley Mow or The Ball House, both of which are closer for us. It was a night to remember but for all the wrong reasons, an expensive lesson in sticking with what you know is excellent and one not to ever be repeated..!!!!!

This applies both to the pub and the food,This was the second in the Green Welly group conversations, which has been completed to a very high standard but looks (to my eye) a little too over the top, all rebuilt exposed bricks and new exposed beams. However it’s very practical and extremely clean, with good space around the tables. One would have thought that being part of a group they would offer 'pretty' much the same menu and prices, and indeed beer selections, but no, which in this particular instance was a disappointment as I had a really good venison meal at the Red Lion in Bicker, and a 'pretty' good beer selection. The menu was augmented by several specials that the hostess related whilst taking the order, without these the menu was 'pretty' standard a designed for black pudding eaters. Once shown to a table the starters arrived quite speedily and really looked nice on the plates, not only that, but they were well proportioned. The main course arrived a short time later, everything was very hot and again the portion size good. My wife’s lamb was, she noted done beautifully and fell from the bone, but without the thick, dark sauce (it would have suited my dreamed of venison) and the mint sauce tasted of ... well ... meat in general rather than Lamb in particular. It was presented without vegetables, and with a portion of ratatouille, one might say, an inspired choice, others might simply shrug the shoulders and question this; we fell into the second group! My salmon looked wonderful, was very well sized, had no bones and was both hot and fell into flakes at the slightest touch of the fork ... wonderful, but NO, again if you were to close your eyes and be asked to guess what you were easting it was simply fish, and even this didn't taste practically fishy, quiet surprising.I personally dislike my meal arriving in bits (side plate of veg, bucket of chips, salad etc) and at different times, it seems to me like taking a car for a service and on collection getting back the four wheels and later the body and then the steeering wheels and being told 'put it together yourself !!Probably a further visit is required; it is unfair to judge just on one ‘pretty’ busy night. The price for two starters and two main with drinks (enough only to allow me to drive home) was at £47 steepish, for what is only marginally better than good pub grub, but very well presented in nice surroundings; but in these times perhaps quite a common price point.Good sized, well maintained car park and is also a hotel, perhaps to support the banqueting hall for what has become something of note for those marrying. The hall itself and the well laid tables looked beautiful as it lay ready for the events of the following day.

This was the second time we have visited in the winter and both times we have been cold-I remained in my coat until halfway through the meal. We were seated in the same section on both visits so maybe it is a particularly draughty spot; uncomfortable.Food was well presented and flavoursome but the vegetable portions were meagre. Considering this restaurant is in the middle of 'vegetable growing country' I would have expected more than a teaspoon of each selection.

First visit with friends who have eaten here on a number of occasions. First impressions were impressive - very welcoming, friendly staff and nice surroundings. Table by the fire and tables nicely spaced so not on top of each other. Good choice of food and I would say something for everyone's taste. Not cheap but not over priced either - you pay for what you get and here you do get good quality food. We passed on starters - my wife had sea bass and I opted for the blade of beef which was fantastic, simply melted in your mouth - both served with lovely fresh veg selection. Had puddings but really shouldn't as already full. We ordered a bottle of wine of the wine list which was not available but they offered an alternative - what they didn't say was that the alternative ended up £5 more expensive than our chosen one, and it would have been nice for them to have pointed out at the time. Overall the bill for 4 of us, 2 courses, 2 bottles of wine, brandy's, coffee came to £125 - but food and service was really good - will go back

I last visited the Poachers about a year ago and couldn't fault it. Unfortunately, I couldn't say the same again after our last visit.Pro's: The restaurant was busy. Always a good sign of satisfied customers.Plenty of local specials on chalkboards. Menu had a wide variety to suit most people. The bar area has a good feel about it with a flagstone floor and chunky wooden furniture. The venue was spotlessly clean and tables were cleared of empty glasses and the bar was clean and inviting.Con's: The restaurant area is very echoey although quite tastefully decorated. The problem with the restaurant is that the wonderful array of specials cannot be seen and just a sample are given to you on the table. Service is slow. We had to get our own drinks from the bar, ask for our order to be taken, ask for the bill etc. Not enough staff to cope with the busy service. Presumable everybody had booked so they knew the numbers!Food was good for the area. The dessert I had wasn't homemade despite me asking if it was! Coffees were requested with puddings. Didn't come. Had to chase.Dinner for 4 adults with all drinks = £150. Don't mind paying that but would expect much better service. We will probably return but ONLY if we can eat in the bar area as you are not forgotten there!

We have now visited The Poachers on a number of occasions since my last written review. It has to be reported that each time the same degree of high quality food, cooked perfectly and presented equally well has been observed. The atmosphere of the bar is relaxed but with standards - this may not be the place for you if you want a pint dressed in trainers and vest. The staff are charming. The Bar and Bar/Restaurant Manageress who will take your meal order is a professional at her job and gives an aura of quiet calm and control. The young waitresses that bring your meal are that rare thing - apparently happy in their work, willing and able to assist in order to make your experience enjoyable. I tried the hare in mustard broth and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of both the dish and its presentation. My friend had the pigeon and was equally pleased with his meal. I cannot rate this bar/restaurant too highly and have no hesitation in recommending you visit for an entirely satisfactory and pleasant meal experience.

A selective menu not over large with a good selection of dishes. The entire bill of fare on one page was a good sign. I got the impression that there was little if anything that might be catering packs. We were offerred fresh mussels either as a starter or main, the variation in size suggested that they were fresh and not of the uniform farmed variety. It was a good choice they were delicious. I had the Bourginon absolutely melt in the mouth. A memorable meal in all respects great staff and attractive pricing. Three starters, four mains, two coffees,Two bottles of wine,Three pints and a couple of wines to start and still a little bit of change out of £100 (excluding gratuities). Pencil it in before they all hear about it.

First time I tried here since it re-opened and my girlfriend only had been here once for lunch, it was my birthday so thought we would try the resturant menu. When we got there everyone started to look at us like we were from out of space, but thats is typical for locals to behave like that. The woman was a bit short with us but pleasant enough. We wasnt rushed for our menu choices, and that was nice but a little too long. They need to find the right medium but cant really complain. We were taken to the resturant and I was suprised on the amazing work they have done on it, The last owners let it run to the ground so well down on turning it around. The food was very nice. The girlfriend had the aspargus pancake and the goujons which looked great and the goujouns were homemade and very big. I had the spicey sausage on caramalised onions and the mussls which was very nice. Overall a good experience. They need to work on customer care...talk to us we wont bite..but apart from that we would go again!

My sister-in-law would say it's worth going just for the Malteaser Cheesecake, but all of the food that I have tasted is exceptional, a well cooked and well presented seasonal menu. Several steps up from good pub grub. The hostess was also very friendly and attentive.

My wife and I booked fairly late here after hearing a couple of good reports. We were offered a table in the bar (as opposed to the restaurant) and took it not knowing what to expect. The venue has recently undergone a major facelift by new owners and they have sympathetically modernised an excellent place to eat and stay. The bar area is spacious and the tables were generous with a comfortable amount of space. The drinks on offer are ideal. Nice beers and wines. One page menu plus a specials board. Perfect!!!All fresh and local. Unfortunately I ordered a strange starter of Asparagus with coconut in a crepe with a sweet chilli sauce and boiled egg! It didn't work and I didn't know why I thought it would! Anyway, my wife had the more sensible and seasonal Pumpkin and Red Pepper soup which was excellent.Mains were a blackened sirloin steak and lamp chop ragu. Both were very tasty and excellent value with very generous sides. Puddings were sublime and more importantly homemade. Overall, a very welcoming experience with tasty food and decent beverages. Would definitely return.

Brought up to date from a tired and 'cheap and cheerful' eating place. Pleasant new decor. Staff friendly and knowledgeable about the decent menu. Priced well with a good choice of food. Car parking facilities are very good with plenty of space even for a larger car - I hate being shoehorned into tiny allotted spaces! An all round pleasant experience, and certainly an improvement on the other local pub-grub establishments in the immediate area.

Recently reopened restaurant and local pub with some thing for everyone, good beer, bar snacks and an excellent restaurant with large food portions. Fish dishes particularly good with plenty of choice for even the most discerning. The Thursday night we went was quite busy but the staff were attentive and friendly. The starters were almost a meal in themselves but we persevered and weren't disappointed with the main courses which were well judged and well presented. Nice selection of desserts which all seemed to be home made, some thing not always seen round Boston. Priced about right for such fresh quality food in this area. Best recommendation I can give is that we will now be regulars at a food haven in what has been a food desert for far too long. Go, you won't be disappointed!

The Venue itself is fabulous, olde worlde, very clean with lovely little lights in the celilings. The menu was varied and reasonable in price, sirloin steak was only £12.95, chicken in a sauce £8.95, no extras incurred for veg or potatoes. All the portions were generous, we couldn't fault the service. We are now looking forward tio returning, the function room looked ideal for a wedding or even a New Year's Eve Party.

Went to a Ball here on Saturday 25 June and Stayed the night. Staf very helpful and friendly, food was very nice and the room was clean and light with all the usual amenities. My only complaint would be the drinks prices in the bar were a little steep.Would definately recommend this place either just to eat or to stay the night. WIll definatley go back again.

Sandra’s Kitchen is a hidden Gem in Boston. Blink and you might miss it! From appearances, it looks like a café you could just walk by. Even step inside you may wonder? Never mind the TV on a Portuguese channel, or how few people inside. Sandra’s cooking is amazing beyond what you can imagine for the value and cheap prices on the menu. She’s Portuguese and it’s Portugues cuisine. But order any steak and it’ll be cooked exactly as you might hope. The seafood is also excellent. The food is all fresh and freshly cooked. while you wait, and you expect to be very pleasantly surprised not just in taste by portion and price far too cheap! I don’t know how she does it. I’m American, but been in England 30 years. I’m quite critical when it comes to steaks, especially in the UK! But the best T-bone steak I ever had was in this restaurant, and it was huge! I was shocked it was fraction of the price anywhere else! I’ve paid 2- 3 times as much in fine restaurants and been very disappointed, not here. so if you wanna incredible meal and amazing price and don’t need a fancy restaurant to eat in, then this is the place you must try in Boston!

Firstly, the guy on the services counter (think his name was Mark iirc) really needs retraining on customer service and how he speaks to customers. Secondly, you need to train the staff on the Paypoint services you provide. I had an Imovo voucher I wished to redeem and was just told that they dont do them (with an attitude), later followed by that you can chose which transactions you want to do in store (a breach of Paypoints T&C's which i'm aware of having previously been a Paypoint retailer myself) . I have no trouble usually at the Asda at the Arnison Centre which I usually visit. It's a basic Paypoint transaction, but I was refused and argued with over it. Appalling service received, not just for not providing the service, but for the manner inwhich I was spoken to. I was made to feel like I was trying to defraud them, all for the sake of a £24 imovo voucher.
