We enjoyed very good times at Platos and have been disappointed that there has now been a lack of any activity or responses for a long long time but today we were delighted to discover that the unique (for Plymouth) premises have been taken over by the Knead Pizzas business who have managed to survived and emerged through the Covid years first in The Market and then at the Lord High Admiral but have now blossomed into the perfect space here at the top of Finewell St. We shall be down here again and again.

Seemingly unknown gem! Fantastic tapas options- some really interesting and alternative choices along some all time favourites. The halloumi was great and loved the croquettes. Just wish they had another place in London.

Friendly service from waiters & even shown around & had the history of the building explained, and friendly chat over the bar before a theatre trip too. It isn't 'cheap' but me & my partner agreed it was very good value for the quality - the cauliflower, iberico pork, & halloumi were our stand out dishes. Cocktails were well made & reasonably priced, some good wines on offer (small menu and two unavailable but our second choice was cheaper and still delicious) All in all, well worth it, go & give these guys a try.

Delicious small plates in a beautiful, atmospheric setting. Service was excellent. Every plate exceeded expectations, I particularly recommend the potato dishes and churros. The outside courtyard was really pleasant to sit in, and the surrounding building is very impressive. Can't wait to come back for another occasion!

We popped in for a drink and asked to book a table for later that week. We were told to book online... booking app is called Dish Cult which is a but confusing. We sent an email to cancel via email as no phone number available either to be able to call them and were charged £20. Just really disappointed as a complicated way to book or change or cancel booking. Also, bank payment is charged to another company name so more hassle searching for and realising who this payment was for!

There is little doubt this could be the go to place for a lovely evening out. I'm not quite sure whether the restaurant is trying to be authentic or a more trendy place to eat. The building itself is beautiful but could do with some nice touches to finish it off. The green walls didn't work for me and would be far better off a neutral colour. The food was lovely but just not enough. I had 3 tapas and a sweet. The bread and potatoes are recommended in whichever combination you choose. I was disappointed with the sweet which was a almond pastry with raspberries. It was very nice, but again ever so small.

Visited Platos with a group of friends to celebrate and found that their booking system does not work commented on the fact it would help if they had a phone number and was given short shrift by the co owner Frankie who said they do not need a phone, it is not for you it is for the customers who you need. That attitude seems to permeate,. The drinks menu is limited - not available on the website - and overpriced. After drinks were served by staff who seem to be there under sufference. With a table of 8 the menu ordered was varied but as the dishes were served a realisation was that many were overpriced and poor in quality. The Bread from the grill at £5 based on the toasted 4 slices of braed that appeared makes the loaf cost about £100, then the Lobster croquetas, which was all croquetas and a lobster flavoured mayo, The platos potatoes were ok but and the scotch egg is a sad excuse of poor cooking, small over cooked and tasteless as were the meatballs and pork rib, finally the scallop with a pea mash which was ok but at £7.50 for one farmed frozen scallop cut in half and over cooked is a demonstration of the lack of care and quality as the peas were the star of the dish. Sorry this is pretentious, like the attitude of the owners and to add a service charge for mediocre service is wrong. This place will not last, it will not be here a year from now and if it is I will donate what I spent last night to charity, be gone this house of horrors

A massive step down from the previous Tanners and Greedy Goose. The staff were lovely but the food average and overpriced, and the atmosphere all wrong. If you were expecting tapas you'll get just that but expect to pay through the nose for it (£7.50 for a single scallop!!). If you are expecting an upmarket evening like Tanners or Goose expect to pay for it but not receive the goods. Won't be going back.

I didn't realise when I booked that Platos was in such a lovely building. It was a pleasant surprise to arrive and be walked through the beautiful old fashioned place. This was contrasted immediately by the loud music though, which felt more like an Ibiza beach front house music party than classy Spanish tapas bar, which was a bit of a disappointment. The branding overall was one of the reasons I decided to book this place. As a designer, I love the logo and the orange / black colour combinations, but it was a little overdone once inside the restaurant. The curtains are full bright velvet orange, and the tables a glossy painted black which shines and feels a bit tacky. I ordered a gin martini, which was excellent. I definitely recommend giving it a try if you're in the market for a martini. The dried lemon garnish was a nice touch too. I really enjoyed the drink. The food was okay. Not all singing all dancing tapas small plates that you'd expect in a Spanish town, but good for a small Plymouth restaurant. I asked my partner what their favourite dish was as we left and they said the olives, which probably says a lot about their experience. We ordered 5 plates in total, and that was just a little bit too much food for 2 people, but would be enough if you're starving. The lobster croquettes were more croquette than lobster, as we struggled to taste it inside. The mayo on top was the dominant lobster flavour. The deep fried aubergine with molasses and yoghurt was an interesting combination, but didn't work for me. The molasses was so overpowering that I had to each the aubergine with something else to tone it down. It was ultimately a bit too strong and you couldn't taste the aubergine or the light batter. The deep fried baby squid was also not its best, with them being left in the fryer just a touch too long, meaning that it mostly tasted of fry rather than the squid. The bread was fantastic. It came with the hummus and chorizo dish, but it was light and fresh. The service was okay, with the young waiter not having that much passion about the job and seemed a bit lost most of the time. When we were given the bill we waited for a while until I asked if we pay at the bar and he explained that we needed to because "obviously there's no signal inside". I'm being critical, but word choice is important.

A word of warning to anyone who thinks this will be the food experience that was the Greedy Goose. Obviously a different concept, I would say it is aimed at a much younger customer by the decor and very loud music. Such a beautiful old building , now with bright yellow high metal tables and chairs as you enter the restaurant. ( what were they thinking!) The tapas was ok, but slightly overpriced compared to other restaurants in the area. I won't be returning, that said I wish you well with your new venture.

This used to be the Greedy Goose, which was a ‘fine dining’ restaurant. They have kept the dining bit in its new iteration of ‘Plato’s’. It is now a posh tapas bar serving ‘small plates’. Ooh the wit …..Plate- o’s ….geddit? Actually, the allegory of the cave might just work given the dark stone interior of the ancient building. The tapas themselves were OK, no better or worse than other tapas bars. The potato croquettes were light and fluffy and a curried cauliflower and spinach dish intriguing in a good way. We ordered olives to nibble whilst we waited, but they arrived after all of the other dishes. They have only three desserts, we tried one, an alleged cheesecake. The cheese was marscaponi, the cake had gone missing and was replaced by a few crumbs of Amarreti biscuits. It was said to be drizzled with Pedro Ximenez sherry, but managed to taste only of honey. The wine, a cuveé Cotes du Rhone, at £28, was adequate and perhaps nearly as good as Sainsbury’s ‘House’ Cotes du Rhone. However, the thing about the Greedy Goose and Tanners before it, was that it felt like fine dining. This had more the feel of fast food. Bare tables, no candles (surely a must) in the Prysten House) and loud music to get you marching through your food and out of the door. The staff were also polite and efficient, but sadly like the rest of the atmosphere, a little bit cold. Apart from the building – which is magnificent, the only thing that is left of its previous iterations, are the net curtains, which have taken on a Miss Havisham appearance.

I came here with my sister for her birthday and the whole evening was delightful from start to finish. We were greeted by very friendly and welcoming staff, taken to our seats and promptly provided with bread and olives and some water whilst we chose from the menu. Choosing was the hardest part and I shall have to return as there were no mussels available! I am impressed by the scrummy little plates of delightfulness!

Outstanding service from start to finish, wine was great and the food was even better. Helpful staff who go above and beyond to make you happy. Guy serving the food was happy to discuss ingredients of a dish I was keen to try and replicate. I’ve had a lot of Tapas here and in Spain and this probably tops the lot. Oh and don’t listen to Stevo he’s a massive chopper . Get yourself booked in and enjoy

We’d been to The Geedy Goose in the past and loved it and we were fascinated to see a transformation to an up-market Spanish tapas style restaurant. Well we LOVED it. It was our wedding anniversary meal and Platos stepped up to the plate (sorry!) and delivered. And then some. We ordered a variety of dishes between us from fried chicken to lobster croquettes, crispy squid and ribs. It was a beautifully cooked selection of dishes served by a friendly but busy team in a classic old Plymouth building full of character. I applaud the courage of those in the challenged hospitality industry right now to change things up and make it work. Ben Palmer and team - well done. We’ll be back. Thank you!

Over a year since our last visit and I’m pleased to say everything is as we remember. Although some staff may have fledged the nest the quality of food and standards of service have not altered. Once again, a beautiful atmosphere accompanied by beautiful food, drink, service and views. Please accept our gratitude in accommodating us once again. I’m so pleased to see the passion is still in abundance. Highly recommended.
