Having visited this branch a fair few times I’ve always been pleasantly surprised by the attentive staff, always busy doing something, good service, attentive, but sadly that all went out the window on my recent visit. Walking down the stairs I was met (not physically, I was stood waiting for a short time) with two members of the ‘team’ slouching against the counter chatting. Hmmm. Ok. A third team member greeted me, and she was very pleasant and friendly. The other two, 1 male, 1 female, still slouched against the counter. And not just slouched, but slouched with arms crossed (when not on their phones!). Not a great view having people’s butts sticking out when you look up. Not a great advert. What really bugged me was the manager (I’m assuming he was the manager as not in uniform) was in the vicinity and was even chatting with them. Sorry but having been in hospitality for numerous years with my own premises if staff had done that they would be given jobs to do. There is always something that can be done which doesn’t include slouching and chatting. Maybe it’s the norm here? Let’s get to the ordering, the young slouching female team member came to take my order ‘what can I get ya’. Ok so no ‘are you ready to order?’ or ‘can I take your order?’ Order given, back to slouching. I guess walking 20 feet and saying those few words took all your energy? They were that busy slouching the ‘manager’ brought my starter! Either that or I’m a privileged customer…… So onto the food…..well I can honestly say this was the worst I’ve had at any pizza express, and usually at this branch it has been pretty good. The pizza was undercooked, pretty much raw from about inch and half in (and as a romana base it should be pretty well cooked, crispy, across the whole base), about a dozen bits of meat, 5 onion rings, few little bits of green pepper, sauce was, well, non existent as was the cheese, maybe they were running out? On previous visits I have not been able to fault the pizzas, always well cooked and crispy with decent amount of toppings and enough cheese that it ‘strings’ when you pull a slice off. Did I complain or make anyone aware, no because no one came to see how my meal was as they were too busy slouching and not looking at any customers, nor did they ask when my plate was cleared with a fair amount left on it. Poor show, but in fairness it was the slouching female that cleared and I don’t think interacting with customers was her forte! And for those who will say they use phones for their orders, this server had one table, mine, so I can’t see what she was doing on the ordering phone with no other guests ordering with her! Lastly, the temperature in the restaurant was decidedly cold, I can’t see that any heating was on at all, luckily I had a thick jumper on but i was still cold throughout my visit. Dubious as to if I will return as this visit has put me off to be honest.

It is very very cold in this restaurant. We were all freezing the whole time we were in there, every single table had at least one person sat in their winter coat and/or a scarf. It doesn’t make for a particularly pleasant dining experience. I was actually cupping my hands over the candle on the table for warmth at one point. The staff were walking around in T-shirts, but I imagine that’s the uniform and they don’t have a lot of choice, plus when your moving you feel warmer, but for those of us seated and eating dinner it was a fairly arctic experience. There are a few heaters, but they don’t seem to be up to the job. Food was fine, exactly what you would expect from a Pizza Express. We had a full meal with starters, mains and desert. The servers were attentive and service was reasonably quick despite it being busy in there. Some of the deserts that were supposed to be served warm were served cold which was frustrating, but we didn’t bother to mention it because by that point we were all so chilled through that we wanted to get out and warm up. It’s a shame because it’s a nice restaurant with a lovely location, but it’s just so cold in there.

It’s just reminded me why I don’t come to such places. Food arrived cold, salad was rocket and spinach. Staff unhelpful and didn’t seem to care. No toilet facilities in the place as closed off. The shopping centres toilets were closed and we were told to go to Nandos. Big fat waste of time. Disappointing experience avoid and go to a decent pub instead!

Visited yesterday after booking my child’s 8th birthday party and it was brilliant! £12.95 a head and it included dough balls with garlic butter & veg, handmade pizza, ice cream and drinks. The pizzas were bigger than standard children’s sizes so many parents tucked in as well! We had a private party area which was accessible by stairs and lift and this was really appreciated. There was plenty of room for all the children and tables for the parents who stayed, plus a table for the birthday cake and party bags, and it overlooked the dock. The kids got activity colouring sets, chefs hats and aprons and had a brilliant pizza making session with one of the staff - who was fantastic with the kids who were all in hysterics. The kids (and parents!) got to have a go at dough flaring - the place was covered in flour and so glad I wasn’t cleaning up. I was told the party would be 1.5 hours but we were there well over 2 hours, there was no pressure from the staff who were all super helpful. I choose to start the party at 11am which was a great option as we pretty much had the restaurant to ourself for the first hour. Thank you - you really exceeded our expectations and I don’t think Pizza Express advertises these parties enough.

I absolutely love this venue with it’s waterside location and, today, as a solo lunchtime visitor, I was not disappointed. The service was beyond excellent and the quality of the food was, as always, divine. As a lady who enjoys a vegan lifestyle, I am always confident that Pizza Express understands what that actually means and the vegan options are excellent; absolutely the best.

Came here yesterday as a group of four for a quick bite to eat. A younger waitress promptly greeted us and took us to our table. She took our drinks and food order (complicated order too) very efficiently. Neither herself or the kitchen got anything wrong. Food came out in a timely manor and was lovely. The reason for the down grade in stars is due to the fact there was 4 floor staff from what I observed. Only 2 (the one looking after us, and another younger girl) who were actually actively working. The other two, one who I assume some form of management due to being dressed in a colourful jumper and a lad with curly hair. They were more interested in gossiping, turning their nose up at people and leaning on services with a 0 customer facing attitude. What annoyed me the most about them was, when our waitress was busy we asked for a refill to the two lazy staff and then it appeared like they were eye rolling our waitress as if she wasn’t good enough, which I can assure you she was. It may be worth looking top down rather than bottom up and start acting like you want to work in that role.

Came on a quiet friday, midday. Place was half full, with plenty of staff. First impression lots of dirty tables, tried to sit 3 of us around a table for 2, despite plenty of big empty tables that just hadn't been cleaned. Said we'd happily wait for a better table but was just left to stand for 10 minutes before anyone bothered to start setting a table. Sat for a further 15 minutes before we got an order and only because we had asked the waiter on expo to get a waitress over to us. Food was great, two very competent chefs in the kitchen, and had a short wait!No check back on the table until one of us had already finished, and only because they had overheard me mention it to my partner. (We are both management in another restaurant).Waited a long time for the table to be cleared after finishing, thankfully one of the chefs shouted over for someone to come clear our plates away otherwise we'd have been waiting a very long time, much like all the tables we could see surrounding us!On the way out noticed the same dirty plates stacked by the stairs that had been put there just as we came in. In over an hour nobody had thought to move them out the site of customers and to the KP who I could see moving faster than any of the floor staff whenever he came through to the restaurant!I was embarrassed by the service as had brought family out for a nice meal, and had never had a bad experience in PizzaExpress sites anywhere else. Overall experience was saved by the food, but certainly won't be coming back

My son and I had tickets to see Al Murray at Hull City Hall this evening, but that's another story...We decided to have a meal and a drink before the show and opted for Pizza Express in Hull's Prince's Quay. We were shown politely to our table and our waitress was pleasant and attentive. The restaurant was well lit and just under half full - not bad for a damp Sunday November night in Yorkshire's premier maritime city. We ordered, the food came quickly and was well presented and piping hot. We each had the Nduja Calzone and it was excellent. The dough, the filling, the size of the pizza - all generous and cooked to perfection.I caused a bit of confusion when it came to pay the bill, having either a 40% discount voucher or the O2 'two mains for £10' offer. The staff weren't flustered, did the sums and charged me the lesser of the two amounts. The restaurant is a really nice dining experience. I'll definitely go back to explore the rest of the menu.

We came as a result of a deal with escape rooms and paid up front for a 2 course meal plus drink. When we asked what we could have we were told anything except those in the centre. However, when we came to pay, we were charged extra for a pizza 'that was more'. Had not been told at any time. Feel cheated and had to pay extra when we thought all had been covered. Left a really bad taste and will never go again. Was not worth the money. Make sure you double check.

This review was originally posted on my blog. If you have found it useful or enjoyed reading it then please check the blog out and let me know. Pizza Express. Synonymous with jazz and pizzas. The Pizza Express in Hull is tucked away on a sub-mezzanine level (if that's even a word) of Princes Quay Shopping Centre in Hull. You can enter from the outside via a walkway from Princes Dock Street, or you can enter from the shopping centre itself. The meet and greet happens at the foot of the stairs from the shopping centre. The decor is typical of a lot of Pizza Express stores. There are big plate glass windows looking out onto the Princes Dock, which can be a great view in nice weather, or thoroughly depressing in bad weather. The size of the plate glass windows means that the restaurant can be quite chilly, something which is exacerbated by the fact that they insist on running the air con in the restaurant, even when it isn't needed. On this occasion, we had booked ahead, and were greeted promptly and shown to our seats. We weren't sat near to the windows this time, which made the experience a little less chilly. We were given our menus and left to decide what we wanted. To be honest, it often doesn't take too long. There is a fair choice of pizza toppings served on a couple of different bases. There are some other dishes as well as well as a kid's menu. The waitress returned quite quickly and we ordered food and drinks. There was a little wait for food, but nothing excessive.Since we'd been recently, we'd completed a feedback survey and were able to get out free doughballs to start. I mean, who doesn't like free doughballs?!As always, we had no complaints about the food. It was just what we expected. The bases were crisp on the pizzas and there were plenty of toppings. The waiter came back and did a meal check about halfway through the meal and we had no complaints. At the end of the meal, we asked for the check. There was a little confusion about who was now waiting on the table and who needed to produce the bill on the system, but it was soon sorted.Overall, it was another nice meal at this Pizza Express. We will be back.

We arrived here about 2.30pm on a cold wet and windy Thursday afternoon to find only a few people dining. However it still felt warm and welcoming. We were greeted almost immediately and taken to a nice little table with a quay side view. I was pleased to find a few Vegetarian/Vegan choices for a change. My husband chose the new Porchetta pizza . I am unused to actually being given a choice of dishes and I couldn't decide whether to select the new Mushroom and Truffle or the Padana pizza. I asked the waiter, a pleasant young guy named David which out of the two he would choose and he said his personal choice would be the Padana. A small thing but I appreciated that he actually gave me an answer instead of sitting on the fence... I then asked him why he would make this choice and straight away he honestly answered that he didn't like truffle oil...… I thought that was a very logical and helpful answer. I didn't actually know what truffle oil was like and if I found that I also didn't like it, it would have ruined my meal. That immediately made my mind up. Padana it was. Both pizzas were hot and large in size. The bases were, as stated on the menu, thin but they weren't soggy. Just right. They were packed with flavour and toppings. We both thoroughly enjoyed them.We did think for a lunchtime they were quite highly priced at just under £15 each but as I have a Tastecard which is accepted at Pizza Express, we only had to pay for one of the meals. The drinks however are very over priced and although we would have loved a beer we settled for a soft drink plus a jug of iced water.David continued to check all was good with our meal, and promptly brought our bill when requested. He didnt even need to be reminded that we had a Tastecard. We found the restaurant to be a pleasant branch of Pizza Express . It is set on two levels with an internal lift so that those with reduced mobility can have easy access for dining also. To finalise, the toilet areas were also extremely clean. All in all we enjoyed our dining experience, so thank you David and co.

The main chef explained us the entire process of how to make pizza and later we were offered various toppings and sauces to bake ours. The place was clean and with good ambience. We had a private area booked facing the riverfront. The staff was kind, hospitable and very quick in their service. When I entered, I was given a choice for the drinks and for starters we had a sharing portion of famous Dough Balls, served with a trio of dips: pesto, garlic butter and pestorissa and a harissa spiced tomato dip and also Marinated Olives. We booked a table on a Saturday evening before going out, and were met with a friendly welcome. The pizza's themselves were really good and tasty, and the leggera pizza in particular was very light, so there's the option of a light meal or plenty of room for sides and deserts. We wished we had ordered sides, but the tiramisu more than made up for it.We did have a nice table by the large windows overlooking the dock side, and thoughtfully there was a blanket type of cover over the pvc seat, which may have been a little cold otherwise. What detracted from the visit was the bill - £54 for two pizzas, two deserts and three drinks seemed on the expensive side - the staff were all great, but the décor etc doesn't really match up to some of the other choices at that price point. We'd only be back if we had some sort of offer/voucher to offset the prices.

We ordered a pizza each, a soft drink each, then we all had a dessert with a coffee and it came to £61, a little expensive but we all had a lovely time and the waitress was really friendly. She also got some hot water to warm my babies milk, although it does have to stay on the counter for H&S reasons but I really don't mind as a lot of places won't even do that. The baby changing facilities are very clean and they even supply a soft changing mat which is nice, The toilets were clean too. I would definitely eat here again. My friend who lives in Hull said it can get very busy on a weekend with it being in princess quay and having a Vue cinema nearby. In short, took ages for food to arrive and the bases on 5 pizzas were burnt. Poor value when, for £2 more than one pizza, you can go to chamas in Beverly and eat unlimited fresh salad and good quality meat.

Came here with my family during a busy weekend in Hull, had no problems getting a seat and with a choice of indoor or outdoor on the quay. Servers a bit uninterested but not rude. Food came quickly and was very tasty. All three of us ordered a pizza off the classic menu but there was quite a bit of discrepancy in size differences? Otherwise not a bad pizza place for a fair price.

The food is exactly what you expect from Pizza Express, good pizzas and decent beer. The reason I’m writing this review for a chain restaurant is because of the server who was the first who has ever apologies before asking how the food is. We both appreciated the acknowledgment.

Friendly staff, sat us in the window in what was a quiet time. The restaurant filled up quickly we ordered our drinks which were quite pricey at £6.95 each.I downloaded a voucher for a starter and main £11.95, to which the waitress explained whst we could have. The food was good as always, we didn't save much with the voucher about £1.50.The place filled up quite quickly and had a nice atmosphere about it.

Very nice staff, very nice food! Always good vouchers online. Decent layout convenient location. Shame they don’t do pineapple or bbq pizza! When they say spicy pizza they mean spicy pizza. Haha

Great service! Staff were very polite and the food was very nice and delivered fast to the table. Only down side was that there were a couple of rips on the seat which took away from the otherwise nice decor and layout of the restaurant. Overall would definitely recommend going.

It’s a very difficult one ! I did not read the reviews before I won’t in. The place looked empty and it was freezing in there had to eat with a down coat on. Staff were polite and food was ok but the whole place had that ( could not care less ) feel to it. Team members on their phones did not help.

Sunday, early evening. Decided to eat out and headed for Pizza Express, as we've eaten in lots of them round the country. To be frank, wish we hadn't bothered. Arrived home feeling that it was a waste of time and money. My wife had a ball of mozzarella with enough tomatoes to make anyone ill as a starter (she left many of the tomatoes) and I had uninspiring Arancini. For mains, we both had Romana style pizzas. Mine had a soggy base. We didn't feel drawn into eating a sweet.

Visited this restaurant as my partner had a 2 for 1 main course voucher which he was keen to spend. On entering the the restaurant we were shown to a table where the banquette seat was so torn and cracked I wouldn't have wanted to sit there. So, we got up and moved. I know it was a bitterly cold day outside, but the temperature inside was absolutely freezing. In fact, during our entire meal I sat with my coat on.

First visit was good, had a nice waitress named Katie, so decided to come back another day. The food was ok, the service however is very lacking to say the least. Was sat down on dirty but set table, read the whole menu twice and sat on my phone for a good while before someone thought to come and take my order. Having worked in the restaurant business for a while now I would think half of the staff are working their first week or two.

Visited today with my daughter at lunch time. Restaurant was very clean and not too busy. Was greeted and seated by a very friendly, welcoming waitress. Our food arrived quickly and was all really tasty. We really enjoyed our visit. Pizza Express is a little more expensive than some other places, if you are on a budget i would definitely recommend it as a treat or for a special occasion. You can also use Tesco Club card vouchers to pay against your food, which we did and they were accepted with no problems. I have noticed on some other reviews that people have complained about the choice of pizzas available. It clearly states on the menu that they will happily try to cater for everyone's needs so just ask for the toppings you would like, if they have them they will make the pizza of your choice. We will definitely be going back.

Popped in after seeing 'Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri' (Brilliant film) at 'Vue Cinema' upstairs, very convenient. Very fresh ingredients, shared a superfood salad and a ring Pizza. Great to see so many healthy options and a non- alcoholic selection of drinks for the driver. The meal was made by great service from a young Latvian trainee restaurant manager. Interested and interesting. We wish her well and speedy promotion.

Visited with family before going to the theatre. It wasn't the best dining experience that I've ever had, wine was served in a dirty glass and a hair was found in one of the kids dishes. Staff were good and offered to replace and not charge for the kids meal.

Popped in for lunch, cold outside and not knowing Hull's restaurant scene well and not wanting to drag the kids about to find a place it was an easy choice. Calamari and dough ball starters were very good, all the pizza very nice but polenta fries were over cooked.

Food ok but choice poor, won't be hurrying back unless there is a more comprehensive menu. We used to eat regularly in the Edinburgh Pizza Express where there was a much better choice of food. You need to raise your game there are a lot of good Italian restaurants about and at more reasonable prices.

Went last week for a family meal and food was awful I got a thin pizza and it was burned right through and just loads of tomato purée dumped on it and I asked for extra chicken and hardly got any. They don’t do. Kemal proper chips instead u get 6 chip like things in a glass with a horrible dip. Won’t be going again as it was my first time and I’ve had better pizzas cooked by my own kids at home.

Visited for lunch while christmas shopping. Pizzas were nice however felt thr price of 45 quid for 2 adults and 1 child for pizza and one drink each (1 was a childs meal) was a bit much really. Also unless you want a pizza covered in peppers/onions or olives thw chouce us very limited. Could do with more varied meat options. Wouldnt rush back

Been here for lunch a few times now as a family with a 6 & 8 year old and the food has always been delicious. TIP - there is a "lunch time special" menu that is not on the table, they only give it to you if you ask for it. This is a much cheaper option than the main menu, just slightly smaller portion but great for a lunch time. Also has a special price for 2 & 3 courses so definitely worth asking for this menu if you are visiting at lunch time. Set in a great waterside location, gets very busy so maybe worth booking a table. Very clean restaurant, excellent toilet facilities, and friendly staff who don't rush you out of the door.

You can usually rely on Pizza Express for reasonable food at a reasonable price and this branch is no exception. You have to access the restaurant through a soulless shopping mall but the view from the window over the old dock is good. The menu is standard Pizza Express and the service I experienced was prompt and very good, they were nice people. They catered for a large group of us without any fuss.

Went to the hull branch of Pizza Express , was seated at a good table overlooking the dock. The waitress came over with the menus, she asked what we would like. I asked the the set menu, two courses for a tenner I think. We had been very pleased with our set menu lunch in the Scarborough branch the week before. She said " We don't do a set menu" I asked to speak to her supervisor who also denied they do a set menu, that was until I showed them it on my phone.

This was a perfect experience from start to finish. When we arrived about 5.30pm we were met immediately and escorted to a table. Within seconds a waitress had taken drinks orders and when she returned took our food order. This was our first visit to this branch and it was delightful. The decor is lovely, it is clean and above all the staff were happy and friendly. It was not possible to view the whole restaurant from one place. It was about two thirds full and I counted 6 waitresses, one supervisor and three chefs. The food was served promptly, hot ( a particular issue of mine) and was very tasty and excellent quality. Service was also very fast.

The restaurant itself is in a great location overlooking the water with fountains andbridges illuminated at the night time. Modern decor and a pleasant atmosphere acompanied by pleasant and attentive staff. The Soave itallian wine was great and reasonably priced around £16 a bottle that myself and my partner opted for. When deciding on the antipasto for one and calmari for starters it was a quick decision that caught are eye having recently been in the Italian Alps region of Livigno. The Antipasto was good quality and a variety that treated the taste buds for the price we paid for around £6.50. However, the calmari came burned and seemed to have been pan fried and lacked that authentic Italian wow factor you would expect from a basic starter dish. For our mains we had one la reine pizza and one veneziana with the added anchovies. Both were of decent size considering we had already had starters and felt authentic enough all be it we were in Hull city centre. The ingredients tasted fresh and of good quality and we would return to try other dishes in the future. One small minus was that one of our wine glasses was dirty but we politely swapped it with the glass on the other table rather than cause a scene. A nice meal out for a change and would reccomend to others!
