Nice popular place for a bite to eat

Stopped by on a quiet weeknight - parking is effectively free in the market square right outside after 4pm (2hrs free, and also free after 6pm). Nicely decorated with mix of modern and history being in the old town hall. Kids ordered off the kids pizza menu - they were happy enough at £7 a pizza. Adult pizzas range from £8-14 sort of prices, I thought it was pretty good. Not world beating, but good.

It's not as good as it used to be.

Way over priced for poor quality food and uninterested service. What a pity the location has great potential. Let’s start by training your employees and serving food sustainable plates. As a notice in the bar says ‘no service here ‘

Took over an hour to get our pizzas and we only ordered a margarita. Unbelievably expensive for a cheese on toast pizza as well.

The atmosphere is good, the food is ok I have good and bad. The drinks are not so great. The lager on draught is dreadful and cocktails not much better so unless your drinking from a bottle with a pizza don’t bother

Fantastic, attended with the wife and three kids, pizza was superb and the chips/onion rings. Staff very friendly and polite, even sitting talking with our youngest.

We’ve been here quite a few times now and I think the pizza is pretty good and all fairly priced. I had a glass of Malbec which was nice although the glass was a bit basic and didn’t look very clean. The building is nice but the interior is starting to look shabby and everywhere looks like it needs a good clean.

We arrived in Malton on our way home from Flamborough, we liked the look of this place so called in, we'd had lunch and just wanted coffee, the young lady and guy that looked after us were very pleasant and polite, they gave us some good info' about Malton enough to make us decide to spend a weekend there. Nice to have people interact with us oldies in a polite but not condescending manner

Another fab visit with tasty pizza 🍕 We visited to have a nice, laid back lunch on a Sunday. It was absolutely packed when we arrived, but we still got a table and were able to order quickly. There was a wait for food, but we didn't mind as we had nowhere else to be! Drinks are very reasonably priced, as is the pizza. Their vegan cheese is also very tasty, for anyone who needs the option. We'll definitely be back!

I've not eaten here, but friends have and said the pizzas are lovely. A good selection of beers etc. A nice relaxed atmosphere over two levels in this old building, which has a modern relaxed interior. Great location for a catch up with friends!!

Stopped off for pizza with a friend who stays locally. Nice pizza deal, kid and dog friendly in a beautiful location.

We visited for the second time and the service was outstanding. I informed staff that my son is anaphylaxis to all nuts sesame and coconut and I could not have asked for a better response! They explained that food may take a little longer due to them cleaning an area especially to prep his food in… then stopped any sale of nuts during the time we were in the restaurant.. what an amazing place! Thank you!

Great concept. Simple, and high quality with excellent service and pizzas. Family friendly (Can feel a bit rowdy on a Saturday night, but certainly no feelings of being unwelcome). Great value and a great option for families or groups.

Called in there for a drink, the drink wasn't up to much, definitely tasted a lot better elsewhere. We were gonna have something to eat but nothing appealed us. Won't be going back there.

Was hoping for far better. Great location and nice views out of the windows. Food was average and service not great. Asked for a coffee and hour and a half before closing and was told no as he had started shutting the coffee machine down.

The pizza was okay, but not the best. My wife said the exact same about her pizza. The beer was nice. Salts brewery.

We had tried to eat somewhere else but chef had gone, so we walked in here, about 6:30 Monday. Very glad we did. This place has nice seating, calm atmosphere, good views and excellent pizza and beer!

I had a surprise family visit yesterday and tried this place for the first time. We both enjoyed sharing the large, very thin crust pepperoni pizza between us and enjoyed a refreshing lemon & lime drink on a lovely sunny afternoon. Friendly helpful staff and would visit again.

We visited here with my family from Canada and pre ordered our food as we were a larger group. Our table was reserved and we got our drinks, then pretty quickly our food was served. The pizzas are amazing and very tasty and nice and hot. The club sandwiches tasted great and were very filling with chips and salad. The staff were very attentive and very helpful. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant out, you will not be disappointed.

Disappointed again, Osset beers not on, no one knew what was coming on next, young barman couldn’t change the barrel or remove the sparkler. When he asked for help the ‘manager’ ignored him 4 separate times to deliver some important portions of ketchup and mayo to a table while I waited. Christ, I nearly reached over and took the sparkler off myself Great result though, as I left and went and spent £50 in the ‘Omni Bar’. Great beer and the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Will someone please get a grip of a venue that has the best view in the town!! Not very clean and waiting time to long.No organise at all

Not the first time we have been....won't go again.....no coffee today....45 minutes to get food....I understand if it was busy, but it wasn't....so they could have cleaned the place....filthy....I am not a visitor...I'm local....not good for visitors.....we walked out as we couldn't get what we wanted....such a shame lovely building....dont normally pass comments everybody has bad days....but it was very bad

Cannot begin to tell you how fantastic this place is. The pizzas are out of this world, the dough is absolutely delicious. The toppings are high quality and the flavour pairings are spot on! Ignore the review about the tomato sauce… our pizzas had just the right amount and were perfectly cooked, who wants a pizza swimming in red sauce?! On top of the divine pizzas, the service was second to none. The staff were super welcoming, really friendly and went above and beyond to accommodate our hangry toddler. Couldn’t have asked for a better meal. Thank you so much!

Very little tomato sauce on the pizza. No pepper offered or on the table. They were out of Italian wine and I was offered Spanish or Australian as a substitute. And when the pizza arrived it was on paper plates 🙄. Cheeses tasted good though.

Lunched here today first visit had 2 pizzas with fries & beer battered onion rings all washed down with some great drinks larger , cider , and wine in house very tasty meal in a great & relaxing setting with great atmosphere and plenty of room to spread out in will be going again eat and try there cocktails next time well impressed

Been trying to get in touch with this pizza place unsuccessfully answerphone says call back later tried 5 times morning and early evening absolutely hopeless no website, trying to find out about what gluten free food they serve! No information available! Don’t bother 😡

Great pizza (sourdough base) and great price! The wine and beer were fantastic too, and it's a nice cosy vibe in the building.

Stopped here absolutely frozen stiff after a couple of hundred miles on the motorbike in the wet. Like trundling into a warm embrace. Big steaming mugs of hot chocolate to warm us, Aspall cider on draft, and enormous ploughmans and deli sandwiches, which were totally lush and very filling. I'd definitely stop here again. They need to change their taps though because someone had flooded the toilets by not turning one off, I had to paddle to go to the loo

Don’t let the few negative reviews fool you - this is an awesome relaxed pub-pizza-place hybrid and it’s always buzzing in the evening. There are some great beers on tap and the sourdough pizza is generous in terms of size and topping. The chips are fresh and the portion the last few times we’ve been was enormous! We always end up taking some pizza away. No, it’s not fancy - you order at the bar and the food comes on disposable (but compostable) plates. However there are always plenty of staff and they’re super friendly. If you’re looking for a chilled out place to go with friends or family, this is a good choice in Malton.

Had a late lunch here today and loved it. Atmosphere was not great but we were the only ones in along with the staff so saying that, it was still a nice place to eat. Full of people talking and laughing i bet is great. Pizza excellent and a good price. I love the paper plates, great idea.

Lovely pizzas. Very flavoursome. Fab choice of alcohol drinks. Could do with more non alcoholic…. May be a non alcoholic cocktail or increase choice on still drinks. Staff friendly and helpful

The pizzas are very nice here! The dough was soft and pillowy and the added truffle garlic was delicious. The truffle Parmesan fries were scrumptious too!!

We went here with friends whilst Malton Food Festival was on. The building is wonderful, the pizzas were really tasty and well cooked. The service was great and the staff very friendly and helpful

We called in today whilst visiting the Food Lovers Festival. This was our 1st visit and definately will revisit next time we in Malton. The pizzas we had were perfect and bonus was that they can cater Gluten Free. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Went here to do flower arrangement with All In Bloom and got a pizza. The pizza was really nice and thought price was good too. Bar staff seemed like they didn't want to be there though.

A lovely spot and building - but spoiled by all empty tables outside being unclean and covered with used glasses/crockery/uneaten pizzas and items being blown off the table in the wind - not a good first impression.. Drinks were good.

Called in for a coffee, quite disappointing. Coffee tasted as if it had been scalded with boiling water or if the filter hadn't been cleaned. Staff were polite and courteous though. Sadly, probably won't go back.

We visited Pizza on the Square twice during a recent stay in Malton. The first time was for food and drinks and the second time just for drinks. The pizzas are really good, we really enjoyed them. They have a good selection of beers, wine and cocktails on offer. The staff were efficient and friendly. I would definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

Maybe it is on a night. But not during the daytime. We ordered and waited. Then before they started on our order, they were serving someone else. At least we were refunded and received an apology.

We stopped here for lunch while our car was changing. What a great location! And the building itself is really nice too. I'm not sure what it used to be, maybe a council building? Lots of character! They had plenty of tables available and more seating upstairs, also the menu looked great, who doesn't like pizza! Plus VEGAN cheese options!! It's order at the bar, and they have a large variety of drinks on offer. We unfortunately got charged extra for our meals but that was sorted out because of miscommunication from the staff. The food was about 20mins wait which wasn't too bad. Nice fresh ingredients, the sauce on the pizza was excellent too. The chips were really hot and crispy too. I would recommend this place if you're in and around Malton.

This is a classy pizza joint. Great food and great beer!

We were in Malton and wanted a decent drink and quick bite to eat. Saw this place and opted for 2 cocktails for 12 quid and a pizza to share. The drinks were good with an unhealthy measure of alcohol and the pizza equally good and tasty. Yes it came on a paper plate, yes we had to go to the bar to order, but it was all delivered in good time and fulfilled it's purpose of feeding us and making us slightly squiffy!

Best pizza I’ve had in ages and the staff were lovely and friendly. Really nice atmosphere in the bar. I’d say the food is fairly priced too. I’m not a massive fan of the paper plates but I wouldn’t let it ruin my night :) All in all I’d say give it a try (Oh and get some fries with truffle oil..delish).

All very average - first time in there, pizzas were expensive for what they were £12 for a pepperoni on a bloody paper plate! and the staff weren’t very attentive, all in the bar chatting rather than clearing up/ serving. £30 for 2 pizzas and 2 pints in what is essentially a pub, that serves pizzas hasn’t inspired me. How many pizza places do you need in Malton? I won’t hurry back for food, beer was nice, but overall felt I had my leg lifted a bit.

What a stunning space, this is, and right in the centre of Malton. The food is delicious and reasonably priced coupled with excellent service. The building is stunning with high ceilings, large windows. wooden and stone slab flooring. There is also the option of eating Al Fresco along with what I think may be free parking, with a council disc, right outside. A great menu selection for both food and drinks.

Really, really good pizza - much better than I was expecting. Good range of beers on tap too. Will be back.

Pizza's are not good with some inedible. Beer is reasonable. Hygiene, for a place serving food, is poor - tables left uncleaned, food waste on floor, even when place almost empty and staff/manager just sitting around.

Unbelievable pizza for the price

We went for lunch today and to be honest we weren’t expecting a lot having read the few reviews there are on here. However, we had a really lovely time. The staff were really friendly and very engaged, the food came quickly and was very tasty-especially the Parmesan truffle fries! I saw they do an offer of any 2 pizzas plus either a bottle of Prosecco or 4 pints for £35, which we are looking forward to doing soon!

We had the pepperoni pizza and truffle Parmesan fries which were fab! Good selection of cocktails but lemon a little overpowering.

Some of the best Pizza i have ever tasted. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was lovely. Visited Monday the 5th at around 6pm. The American sounding dude makes an amazing cocktail. ( Sorry if your not American, im terrible with accents :p) Thank you for a fantastic experiance.

Visited Monday evening lovely service recommended the bramble cocktail, pollo pizza with honey (forgot the name doh) was amazing! Onion rings so light and you can just tell they have use clean oil in the fryers. Thank you very much chefs and FOH!

We went here one Saturday lunch time. It was busy but the restaurant wasn't noisy. We sat in the window looking out over the market Square. I chose a vegan n'duja pizza. My partner chose the four cheese pizza. We both thought they were absolutely delicious. Mine was probably the most intricately flavoured pizza I have tried. Noticeably 'artisan'. We'll definitely return. Service was fine - it's bar service not table. We found the owners to be friendly and helpful. I really don't think new places deserve such scathing negative reviews. Were you perfect when you started your new job? Please give local independent businesses a chance to find their feet. Don't be put off by other peoples dissatisfaction. I'd recommend the pizzas here 100%. Try them for yourself 🙂.

Popped in just for a beer in the evening. Great selection of beers and as a bonus there was live music on. Really nice place and atmosphere

Wednesday evening . Quite busy but even the bar staff admitted they were grossly understaffed. We were told there would be a wait for food which was ok as we were meeting for a catch up. I guess only one person cooking. The order came in two lots . We had to ask where the second lot was ,as people who came in long after us were being served before us. The food was good when it came but a little disappointing that we had to hassle the staff. I would go again in the hope that staffing issues are resolved soon. Take note SALT or you will lose local custom when you are up agains long established , good Italian restaurants in the same town.

The food was amazing, definitely the best pizza I’ve had in Malton. The reason I have given a review of 3 stars is the service. Whilst the staff are generally friendly, they just don’t seem to pay attention to the customers, they just hang around...

First visit and it won't be our last. Real ale on pump which is quite unusual for a cafe. Had a gorgeous ploughman's sandwich including chips. We are not pizza people but they did look nice. Will return .

Fabulous pizza's, and I'm not o lover of them but the service is dreadful , and paper plates are a bit naf. 4 girls behind the bar did only the bare minimum . There were 8 of us upstairs and not one of them offered to help carry drinks upstairs when we bought a round. Also told us we couldn't have coffee after the meal as they didn't want to clean the coffee machine again . It is such a shame for that chef that his team let him down

Mediocre food served on paper plates! Poor service - staff stood talking at the bar, not paying attention to customers. I thought I'd give it a go but won't be returning, at least not for food anyway.

Not gonna lie to you the sandwiches are not winning any prizes. £8 for a sandwich and they were so skimpy with the hummus you would have thought it was liquid gold. Sandwich was the driest I've had in my working memory and they tried to compensate with excessive oil? Make Britain obese again I guess (I ordered a vegetable sandwich?). Just add some hummus and mayo or something?? Mind boggling just had to say something because I can't believe this is what is replacing the Stew and Oyster. 🙁 2 stars because the pizzas are Ok and the environment is nice. Bathrooms are a bit underwhelming also.

Really nice place and great atmosphere. We went for lunch and had two really nice pizza’s. Shame that I was driving as the beer selection was huge and looked very nice. My only improvement would be to include a dip of the pizza base along with you pizza, this would then allow you to dip the crusts in the sauce.

Well when the food finally arrives I may be able to comment but half an hour in no sign of our pizza. Several couples have arrived after us and left as the signs telling you no table service is provided are tiny … update… 50...
