Pizza Express in Leeds

Seated in an area that was far too cold. Was told we could order dessert after main meal but when we tried we were told it was too late and that they were closing soon so they wouldn’t let us order. Ended up going to McDonalds to get dessert. Some of the staff were very rude. Not friendly or helpful at all. Shan’t be going here again.

We came here late this evening after a very long day out at the safari park 5 hours from home. We couldn’t decide what to eat, glad we chose here. Staff were very friendly and food was delicious and piping hot! Something I’m not used to at our local pizza express. Big shout out to our server Liam, who was super kind and helpful. We appreciate the great service today :)

Arrived at 20:30 on Friday 26th July to be told that they weren't taking any more orders. Very disappointing as the website said open until 22:00

Food took ages to come out and was burned. They also forgot half of the order of the table next to us!

A miserable descent into one of the circles of hell. It started off ok, the place was very busy and loud but we got served at a reasonable time. We then waited close to 35 minutes for the food, when it arrived the pizza was heavily charrer making 25% of the crust inedible/coal. I didn't want to complain and risk a further 35 minute wait so i ate around it as best i could. While we were there another table complained that half their order had been served and the other half was missing, apparently there was a problem with the till... When we were finished we sat for a further 25-30 minutes trying to get a servers attention, i started to think i had died and was now an ephemeral spectre but when we finally got up to ask the server if we could pay and leave, she could in fact see me. Avoid and eat anywhere else.

Staff never checked whether the food was ok. They just stood and stuffed their face with food and was chatting.

First off, it's nice to see a proper "sit down" restaurant with table service in a motorway service area. The menu needs careful reading, as the usual terminology such as "napoli, pugliese, romana, quattro stagioni, quattro formaggi, salami piccante, etc." cannot be found. Anyway, we settled for the Pollo Fiesta and the Funghi di Bosco. Both very tasty and with a perfectly cooked crust. However, there were some issues, as staff training does not seem to be high on the agenda. Our waiter was unable to repeat the order, as he could not pronouce "funghi di bosco", and offered us large (660 ml) bottles of Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0, which were actually not available. Some staff when not busy were standing around the service counter doing up their hair and playing on their mobiles.

Food was nice but when it came to paying the waitress did not provide a simple custom which left us confused. When I pay the waitress should at least wait with me to confirm that the transaction has gone through ok and I can leave but instead I was just handed the machine and the waitress went off and never came back to us so we were just sat waiting there for quite some time so I just paid and left them my own cardholder receipt and then left. It was not even busy so I dont get why this happened. Will not be coming back

It was very quiet when I was there, but the food was excellent. This place makes these the best motorway services I've visited anywhere. I plan to make this a regular stop on my journeys North & South

We visit this restaurant often and the food is usually very good but tonight the whole experience was a disaster. The prawns starter was literally swimming in a very watery liquid, and all 4 pizzas ordered were soggy, the cheese and other toppings simply slid off the pizza when picking it up. Far far too much tomato sauce on the base - simply overpowering to the extent you couldn't taste anything else on the pizza. The pizza bread base of my Pollo Ad Astra had a faint taste of how bleach smells. This is the worst tasting pizza our family has ever had at pizza express. We used to rate pizza express highly and as our favourite pizza restaurant but will consider eating elsewhere in the future and will definitely not be visiting the Leeds service's one again. When one is paying over £100 on every visit one expects much better. This is the first time ever the whole family has each left over 50% of the pizza at the end of a meal. Girl who served us was very pleasant but the chef - they must have dragged in off the street tonight. I've had better frozen pizza from Sainsbury's for £1.50. Horrible and overpriced. Will be spending my £120+ elsewhere when taking the family out for a bite to eat.

Pathetic service waited 10 minutes in the door way despite approaching staff for a table advised just wait until I have time to sort out dirty tables still not cleaned all the time we were there disgusting attitude of lazy couldn’t care less staff food wasn’t Partick Thor we could see the food on the serving table but nobody approached it to to serve chef seemed to fall out with waiter shouting and I think using obscenities towards him

Staff are a complete joke none idol stand around talking despite not taken our order for 30 minutes no drinks offered then waited over an hour for the food starters and this came out minus 1 item no apologies then arrived 10 minutes later then asked if we wanted mains at same time said no then when they did arrive all were Luke warm SERIOUSLY GIVE THIS PLACE A MISS

We had a very tiring day in York and arrived tired and hungry on our way back to Derbyshire. From start to finish this was one of the best experiences we ever had and we have been around the world

Walked in for a table just after 8pm, tried to sit at 9 different tables and each one was full of dirty crockery - it wasn’t even busy. There was only 3 tables with people on them!! Dough balls were burnt. Had to cover my wine as there were some kind of insects kept landing in it. A tray was on the floor for a good 15 mins and waitresses just stepped over it. It would’ve only taken 1 person to slip in it and who knows what would’ve happened.

Can’t comment on the food as I walked out after being seated, given a menu then being totally ignored for 25 minutes, not even a drink offered! The place wasn’t busy at all, maybe 3 couples, one table if 6 lads, & me. Goodness knows how long they’d been waiting before I got there but the lads had to call the waitress over and ask to order. Clearly just very short staffed with 1 waiter & 1 waitress (both very young with no manners!) but to not even make eye contact with customers or offer a drink is terrible; I walked past both of them when I left & they didn’t even acknowledge me!

Shocking experience, worst pizza I’ve ever had, meant to be the bbq burnt ends pizza, it came with no meat on it whatsoever, I asked the waiter about this and he tried to fob it off by saying the meat was mixed in the sauce? The worst was the attitude of the waiter, I’ve never experienced as bad customer as I have today. He definitely needs some training in customer services. I think his name was Jamahl.

Every time we go to this pizza express there’s a mistake. The waiting staff don’t write orders down and just remember them…the problem is they can’t remember them. So it’s always wrong! We’ve had wrong pizzas given, today a missing starter when I’d even mentioned about how it was for the 2 adults to share, separate from the kids’ menu starter. Then dessert is wrong. Service is slow despite it always being dead. Pizzas today were floppy and watery. We often go to pizza express on street lane and it’s nothing like this one, always a warm welcome, staff can’t do enough and it’s always decent (correct) food. Not sure what the problem is here.

worst restaurant ever. waiting at the table for 15 min for the stuff finaly came to take an order. pizza was from 50p shop sold for 11£...are you joking. at the and they charged me one sparkling watter too much...i mean. 22£ total and i leave hungry. better go to Burger King 10m away.

Came in for lunch, my second visit. Restaurant was not full. Service was terrible. Over an hour to get a pizza. Staff milling about bit dis interested. No offer of any more drinks, Pizzas were delicious when they finally arrived. We did fancy a pudding but didn’t risk it. Couldn’t afford the time . Shame, but this is beyond slow

The restaurant is a pleasant place to sit and eat and my wife I have previously enjoyed good meals there, but today's visit was disappointing. Service is always patchy with the waiters disappearing for long periods or standing talking by the till. Today, the food was not as hot as it should have been due to an inattentive young lady not keeping up with the chef. Less chat and more action would help. There was also far less topping on my pizza than usual.

Complete shambles. Sat for half an hour, only being served a drink and then completely ignored despite being given menus. Not understaffed just the worst service I have ever received. I could have and should have walked out but I’m a nice person and you deserve to know this is inadequate. I had to go up to the till at the front, despite being walked past and people restocking around us/in front of us, to pay and explain why I was leaving. I will never be using this pizza express again (Skelton Lake) which is a shame because I have never had a bad experience in any other branch of this chain before or using any other chains available (which have included sit down meals).

It’s called pizza express but for sure, it’s not express. Unfortunately, I arrived when it was a big table with many kids, looking at the « messy » table, had in mind that they eat already but not. I would have expected that the employee informed me about waiting time for delivering my food. Food was « ok », not amazing, quite expensive for this quality, pizza’s size.

Lovely staff, dough balls hot and the best Pizza Express salad I have had for many years. Very clean including the highchair we used. Not many people there but maybe because it was a Bank Holiday and mid afternoon. This restaurant is inside the motorway services.

Super grub, which was good because I was famished. The service was excellent. I just thought it I bit expensive.

Absolutely fantastic. Pizza Express masterclass. Usually I rarely order chicken in a restaurant but I thought I would try it for a change. My Pollo Ad Astra was amazing, loads of fantastic flavours & nothing less than I would have expected. Thank you Rio & Jack for our fantastic food & service PS, the Pizza Express app is fantastic. I have been dinning at Pizza Express for over thirty years & have watched the menu grow. 😍🍕🍕🍕🌶️🌶️🧄🧅🍄🍽️🍻🍷👍

Ordered the Cannelloni. Was literally all sauce. Really really soupy and little care by staff. Shame really as pizza express one of my favourite places to eat

They don’t staff this place properly. Only 2 people working. 1 chief and 1 serving no joke. When they go for a break it’s the chief doing it all. Nuts. I feel sorry for the people working here. Avoid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They don’t deserve your money. Waiting a full hour for food.

It's a chain pizza restaurant so we didn't expect much, but it was over 16 pounds for a small drink and a tiny pizza which was literally just plain dough, passata, some plain sliced mushrooms and a drizzle of vegan cheese. Best avoided if you don't want to be ripped off.

Not worth the money at all. Pica had almost nothing on it with plain areas. Staff not nice. Asked to cut it for me in takeaway box. When opened wasnt cut trough at all, no worries: came back asked waiter to slice it properly, in return was instructed where things are by the chefs working table and asked to do it by myself. The resraurant wasnt busy at all. Also mentioned that pica has almost noting on it and been told that ingridients are murshrooms cheese and dry spices. If that would say on menu, would not bought it. It looked half stuffed. I also asked for the metal fork as i had chunky cabbage salad, was told to get wooden forks in cafe next door! Wooden fork didnt help chynky calesaw anyway. Even when i said i will be sat there by the entrance and could return the fork, had to queue next door cafe for the fork. If you order gluten free, they will freshly spray the oven picca shovel with D10! It was quite concentrated and had intense pink colour and foaming well. Same if they would clean cutlery and dishes with it. The chemical shouldn't be indigested and used in food handling instruments. Its should be used on kitchen surfaces instead. The gluten is the protein and there is no reason to use antibacterial detergent on food handling crockery!! Two tbspoons of calesaw- £4to £5 My picca -£14!!

As pizza express doing buy one get one free pizza, Booked to dine at this place last Saturday. Booked online for 1800 as there is no availability after that time. Arrived and there were only 2 families of 3 dining and also a table of 11 arriving at the same time. A bit confused why there is no availability after 1800 but we soon found out why this is the case. For the whole night, there were 4 staff members. There was 1 chef and 1 waitress went in the kitchen to help the chef out. Another waitress doing drinks and another one that took our order. The one that took our order basically just vanished and the whole restaurant with 2 tables of 11 and us was left with this 1 poor waitress. I have also seen her rejecting any walk ins and there were a fair few disappointed and angry customer. When our pizza were ready, no one was here to serve as she was serving other customer. The pizza itself was not too bad but it turned cold quickly as we were sat near an air con blowing cold air. We did asked for this to be turned off and we were told the manager will sort this which didn’t happen. No one cleaned the tables after customer left as the only 1 waitress simply didn’t care. In conclusion, very poor experience and appalling management with just one front of house for a Saturday night. Although this is at a service station, there is a hotel next to it and this restaurant is not too far from the local area.

I have visited this restaurant a few times over last 3 months. First time round I liked the food and service however after that I noticed a significant drop in quality of the service especially rude waitresses who do not smile just place cutlery bang on table not on napkins, do not ask if I need anything else and are very reluctant to return when called back. Compared to other Pizza Express outlets food quality is mediocre. Not the same standard at all. It Coffee is more like strong tea. This is both frustrating and disappointing.

Visited this place when it opened it was a disaster then and unfortunately still no improvement. Where do I start arrived at restaurant stood at guest service for five min until a chef of some sort seen me and ushered a waitress over, bear in mind there was only 8 guests there including myself, anyways seated at a table asked could I have a drink, guess what forgot about me, anyways order my drink & food fairly simple carbonara, my drink arrived with a filthy glass, I complained to waitress and here response was it only water stains that she would have no problem drinking out of it! Got a reasonable clean glass and waited 1hr 15 for my food as they chefs was no more than there early twenties, eventually received my meal no enjoy your meal nothing from waitress just thrown there to me, even during my meal I was never asked is everything ok, disgraceful, there was couple there with kids sat for 2 hours. Management please have some people there with experience to offer support to inexperienced staff, I will never stand foot in this place again, even when it came to pay I was ignored and the chef came out in his apron to take payment, disgraceful pizza express, If there was a score below one I would have given it. Please take a minute to check out Nando’s there always packed and you wonder why no one goes in your restaurant!

Ordered margarita pizza think the worker stole the cheese, tasted like a supermarket frozen pizza

1.5 hrs for a pizza - crazy at 3pm. The slowest experience at pizza express ever. No chilli oil - and lie that plain oil is chilli version. Don’t go here - drive to the next pizza express. This one is totally rubbish !!!!!!

Never had such a shocking meal at Pizza Express before. Most of the pizzas were black and burnt. Service was dreadful. They obviously cannot cope when the restaurant is busy. The kids pizzas were so burnt, they shouldn’t have been served to the table like that. Wait time for food unacceptable. On tonight’s service it didn’t even warrant 1 star.

The food was nice but the service was poor. Restaurant was practically empty and it took 20 minutes to get the bill. The staff were just sat on their phones, paying little attention to anything. Once I asked for the bill, the waitress just bought over the card machine and presented no bill, so we could check the amount. She clearly didn't want to be there.

Express it isn't. Being located at a motorway services you'd think they'd appreciate people had places to go. But the service here is painfully slow and just generally poor. Never before have I had such dreadful service in a Pizza Express.

Sunning pizza, recommendation from the young chef, Pollo Forza on a Romana base. Sensational. Got in a take away box with a Sicilian strawberry lemonade 🍓 and sat in the sunshine at the back of the services. Best pizza express experience I’ve had in ages. Thank you 🙏🏼

Me and my other half visited here on a very quiet Sunday evening, having visited a variety of pizza expresses its safe to say this one is below standard. The food was cold, took ages to arrive and the service was mediocre at best, lovely staff; but didn’t seem to know what they were doing. Had to constantly ask and track down the waiters for ordering, cutlery and 45 minutes for tap water, would not recommend and won’t be visiting here again

Food and service was great just a little overpriced for the portions you get.

5 star for a well staffed up restaurant to say how quiet they are multiple cooks plenty staff on shift fast service well done 😁

The first time I went here, they burnt my pizza and took ages to do everything. The second time, all the cutlery was dirty and I had to send it back. The third time, the cutlery was dirty again so we left before ordering. I won’t bother trying this place again. I dread to think what food hygiene standards are like here if they can’t even distinguish a clean knife from one blatantly covered in food before putting it out on the table.

Service terrible. Took 40 mins for our drinks and an hour and 40 for our food. There was only 4 other tables taken in the place! Took them 50 minutes to tell us one of our dishes was not available! These thin pizzas should only take a couple of minutes to cook! You don't even get what you pay for. £15 pizzas that taste like they should be half that. Haven't been to pizza express in years and I don't think we'll ever go back.

I've been to a lot of Pizza Expresses, but found this one was not up to the normally high standard. Perhaps because it is a newer restaurant.

Thought we'd try pizza express for a change instead of Nandos or Burger King. Unfortunately when the food came was quite shock at the meal, not spaghetti like long strands nor was there any beef as seen. Luckily the manager was very understanding and sorted us out with what we would consider what we ordered well partially. The price your paying is quite steep for the size of the portion and quality, but your choice is limited here so you gotta do what you gotta do. The waitress was also very nice n happy need more waiters like this.

Great customer service from Alisha, Miya and Luke, the Calamari, pizza and dough balls were faultless and made with perfection.

Date of visit 10/7/21 We went here as a party of 5 with 2 young children. There was 3 staff on all of whom were welcoming when we arrived. The chef did a great job and the food was excellent and he was a good laugh to. All the staff were good humoured tbf. They got the kids colouring pens and pictures to colour. They also got them a balloon each which they were very happy with. The staff all work well together here and help out with each others work even having the manger jump into help the chef and the chef helping serve tables whenever they could. A good experience and I'd definitely go again Thanks to the team there for a welcoming meal.

2nd visit. Food and service 5 out of 5. Will go back and recommend a visit, still a restaurant feel not just a place at the services. Well done to all, thanks again
