Pizza Express in Stockton-on-Tees

As soon as we arrived the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Also, the food was very good and good value. However, to no fault of the staff the wait times were quite long and there was quite a long time in between meal ordering and we eventually had to call them over for the bill. This was to no fault of the staff though as they were constantly busy and were in a rush and I believe it is extremely under staffed. Apart from this I will definately be returning and I would definately recommend the Tiramisu.

Hi I just wanted to leave you some feedback from tonight.Me and my partner visited and had a very disappointing visit. We orderedPolenta Chips and Garlic Bread with Mozzarella to start.Followed by Pollo ad Astra and Pollo Pesto.We waited approximately 10 mins for out starters to arrive so that was a great start only to find both of our starters were undercooked.The polenta chips could only be described as a floppy wabble of mash. Honestly I've seen melted cheese with a sturdier texture. I don't know how you cook these at pizza express but my guess is for too long on too low a heat or maybe in the microwave? I'm Going to guess its not a microwave as they had a taste of an unclean domestic oven.Our garlic bread was just a dough ball that hadn't even been needed after proofing and certainly wasn't cooked. It was slimey through out with no colour on it at all however you had managed to somehow heat this up enough to melt the 2 tablespoons of cheese that were on it, bringing me nicely onto the pizza that is yet to find any cheese. The dough was cooked this time so that was an improvement however I've seen thicker wafer thin ham than the base of the pizza. I love a thin crust but I'd prefer it if my main course had more food than my starter maybe the pizza cooks had mixed the doigh up from the starter as that defiantly had more weight to it than my main. It had no more than a single pinch of cheese and is yet to find any sweet pepper. It did have around 75g of chicken so I suppose that's somthing.The Pollo pesto was average at best for a restaurant that's trying to be Italian however it did have lots of hard penne pasta in it.Our drinks were spot on and the service was great although we didn't complain as I don't perticulaly want to go for a night out with my partner as a treat to upset someone who didn't cook the food.Also the music was so loud that the waiting staff who didn't have any ppe had to basicly shout in our ears to speak to us. Grabbed a kfc on the way home.Cheers

Look, had a nice meal last night, it’s not gourmet food but we enjoyed it. Nice ambience also.When looking at the bill though a glass of wine for £8.95 ? Eh ? Seriously Pizza Express this is an utter rip off. If you want positive reviews then charge people a reasonably fair price. We run a business and realise you have your overheads but £13 plus for a pizza each and then a Small peroni at £4.30 when the shops sell for a £1 and you guys will pay probably 50p bottle once again extortion.You can charge 4.50 for a glass of wine and still make a tidy profit and £3.50 for a peroni. Sadly, big chain and no local outward looking awareness of tuning into the community they are supposed to be serving can only mean an uncertain future for you. Surely won’t get a response to this review either. Experience reduced as you walk feeling robbed.

Absolutely awful service. Awful food and lack of regard for customers. My friends and I waited for over 30 minutes without anyone taking our order. We had to call someone over to ask for our order to be taken. Another 20 minutes passed before anyone bothered to come over to us. After almost 2 hours, and having to ask where it was, our food finally arrived. They'd clearly just thrown it together last minute after I'd asked where it was. No apologies, no napkins, no cutlery. Go across to Morrison's instead, get a frozen pizza, go home, cook it. Quicker, cheaper and the staff won't ignore you.

Waited 20 minutes for our drinks then another hour for our pizza. When the pizzas arrived it was burnt all around the side and stone cold in the middle. The only good thing about our visit was the pesto you get with the dough balls. This was my first visit to pizza express I will never return again.

I’m quite shocked to be writing this review. Historically I’ve been nothing but impressed with Pizza Express. This is the first time I’ve walked out lost for words. The restaurant wasn’t busy by any means and we waited over an hour for 2 pizzas. When they finally arrived the were burnt around the edges,, not only that,, they were cold. My guess it that they were sat for a good 5 if not 10 minutes before being brought to us. At the check back, I politely mentioned that we were far from impressed and the waitress did apologise and asked if they could re fire them for us. We had plans in the afternoon and I didn’t fancy waiting another 45+ minutes. She then said she would talk to her manager to see what they could do. We finished what we could, leaving the burnt edges, and asked for the bill. Oddly, we were asked if we had any discount codes or vouchers, before the manager offer any further discount,, we did as we are members of a gourmet club which offers 20-25% off numerous outlets. £2.98 was knocked off our final bill by the manager. To add insult to injury, we waited a further 10-15 minutes trying to pay. In the end I walked up to the counter with the bill and final payment. A waitress we hadn’t had any dealing with, sheepishly came over. As we were leaving 2 more tables were complaining of a similar experience. I hope this restaurant is having in house issues rather than it being a country wide fall in service and quality. It’ll be a good with before return here which is a real shame.

We used to enjoy this Pizza Express but it seems to be going down hill in its quality of service.We were seated quickly and our order was taken quickly but that’s when the trouble started. An Italian Restaurant which had run out of Cannelloni at 5.00 pm on a Sunday afternoon 10 days before Christmas.I was given my starter 15 minutes before my Wife’s Starter and My King Prawn Starter only had 5 Prawns. When my Wife’s starter was delivered the Waitress said that she didn't know it was ready for serving.We ordered a 1 Litre bottle of still water which was £4.45 and we’ve were amazed to find that one of the glasses had a hair in it that was at least 8 inches long.Some people seemed to be waiting a long time for a Pizza to delivered and the restaurant was only 1/3 full.

Coffee machine not working - this was due to bosses insisting it be turned off overnight despite staff telling them that it won’t power up in time - you should listen to your staff! When we arrived at 11.55 there was only one other table occupied yet after half an hour of waiting (after we placed order) we still had no food (despite stating on our booking that we were having a quick bite before cinema). The waitress checked for us and we were told our order “was just about to be put in the oven”. Considering we were the second table to be occupied there was no reason whatsoever for this lengthy wait. Two friends had salad and thought the leaves looked and tasted off. My friend who had salad with her pizza therefore didn’t eat the salad leaves, however, my other friend only had a salad so continued eating. She told me today she spent all last night in the bathroom being very ill. As we paid cash and split the bill we don’t have the receipt so can’t go back to complain about this unfortunately. Oh, and the place was freezing cold - it’s December but no heating was on - people were eating with their coats on! If you are trying to close this branch then you are going about it the right way.

Firstly the pizzas here are lovely. The Diavolo I think it’s called is delicious. Downside is the service. Went the other day with my daughter at about 6.30pm and it was nearly full and I counted 3 staff serving which is poor. We got drinks quick and waited 25 mins for food, worth the wait. We actually sat down after another table with 6 people on and by time we left they’d only just got there food. You can see why these places go bust because of things like this. Poor management.

Not sure what is happening with Pizza Express at Teesside Park. I n the past we've always enjoyed our visits but recently the service has been slow and the pizzas overdone around the edges (today parts were black)...I didn't like to complain today as we were heading to the cinema afterwards and wouldn't have had time to wait...especially considering the fact that we waited approx 45 minutes for the pizza to arrive (and the place wasn't busy)..my daughter and I were actually in there for approximately 1hour 20 and we only ordered dough balls and a pizza to share...don't think we'll be rushing back any time soon..

Visited here with family, special occasion. We were promptly seated and we Were asked about drinks, menus given. Food ordered promptly. Great start! However we waited an hour for our food in a very quiet restaurant. One lady was clearing tables avoiding eye contact. I noticed another table who came in around the same time were also waiting and trying to gain attention from staff. Our food came and one of the parties meals did not arrive we were told the chef had made a mistake with the meal he had burnt it! He was putting more food in. My daughter sat, we had eaten our meals before hers arrived without her full order. Dough balls missing. The rest of the party sat while she ate her meal, not fair!! The waiter eventually brought dough balls over. I felt this had completely ruined our meal. We ordered desert to be told they did not have our choices. The waitress did apologise however at this stage the whole table was disappointed and sullen! What a waste of our time and money. We would never return!!

We had lasagne which was very good, but came with nothing else, we ordered garlic bread, tiny for £4.55 and vanilla cheese cake for afters which was really poor, probably the worst cheese cake I have ever eaten. The service was ok and the place was clean but a little cold, but my main gripe was the price, totally overpriced for what was on offer. We definitely won't be going back which is a shame because the Lasagne was very good.

We arrived at Pizza Express and were seated immediately. After 10 minutes of not being asked if we’d like to order drinks, I approached the member of staff who seated us, who was more interested in cleaning tables, and asked if we could order drinks and her response was “Rachel will be with you shortly!” She returned to faffing around laying out napkins!!! Rachel was already pouring & serving other tables with drinks and needed help! I sat back down and after another few minutes, whilst Rachel was serving drinks and taking an order, I went back to find the lady who had seated us but she was nowhere to be seen! The chefs asked me if everything was ok and I replied no! The bell dinged to alert Rachel, whilst she was taking an order, that another tables food was ready and that she’d obviously have to serve that, then ask us if we’d like a drink (I assume?). There were two chefs on duty, two other members of staff in striped tops, the lady who seated us and Rachel. Why couldn’t the other staff see that Rachel needed help and customers needed serving ? Don’t they realise that without customers they won’t have a job!!! Disgusting service, we voted with our feet & walked out and went to TGI’s opposite, where we were treated as valuable customers, with friendly staff & tasty food!

Food was over priced and over cooked; lasagne was good, but burnt penne pasta with far too much chilli making it inedible!

Really disappointed with my meal for the price it was robbery with hardly any toppings on my pizza Dont bother. If I had bought a cheap supermarket pizza and cooked it myself I would have been better off and more satisfied Will not be returning

Terrible. Waited for an hour and a half and still no pizza. Had to leave without eating. Didn’t apologise or give a goodwill gesture. And the kitchen is filthy

We visit quite often as we like the food, but the last 3 or 4 times the service has been poor. We came a few weeks ago and explained we were in a little bit of a rush so wanted the starters and mains for 10.95 bringing at the same time, and ordered two Diaviola pizzas. The pizzas come with a choice of three hot peppers and we asked for no peppers. The starters arrived after about 40 minutes and when we asked about the pizzas, we were told by the waiter that he would go and get them. 20 minutes later he had not returned with them so we assumed they forgot. A waitress then came over and apologised that the chefs hadn’t noticed that they were to brought with the pizzas, and when the pizzas arrived, both pizzas had all three extra hot peppers! The pizza is already very spicy and we couldn’t believe that they had not thought to check whether we wanted all three peppers, despite asking for none at all. They were so hot/spicy that we were coughing after one bite and had to leave. In fairness, they did not charge us for the food and they were apologetic. We decided to visit again the next week as we do like the food, but on this visit after waiting about 45 minutes we were told they didn’t have the ingredients to make the pizzas we asked for, so had to change our order. These pizzas were really tasty, but all the little mistakes does spoil the experience. Looking at all the other comments on here it looks as if they are struggling, which is a shame.

I enjoy Pizza Express food so it’s such a shame that this is my local branch. I’ve visited multiple times and it’s so hit and miss but unfortunately the misses are too terrible to make up for the ok visits.

I’m sorry to say as we usually like Pizza Express, but we should have listened to the recent reviews of this place.

Very friendly and efficient with excellent customer service, waitress Michelle could not do enough for us, Dairy Free menu was extremely tasty..

To be honest this is pretty average "Italian" food. My bruschetta was ok but pretty thin tomatoes wise and was somewhat bland. My main course pizza was fine but a little soggy and piled with rocket , the tiramisu was lovely though.

Having visited a large number of Pizza Express restaurants in the past, I would say this was one of the best so far in terms of food quality. All of our pizzas were cooked to perfection. Service was slow and a bit chaotic but it was very busy, hence my 4 rating. We visited during the school holidays on a Tuesday evening at 6.30pm. We paid using Tesco vouchers which made it very good value. Would visit again if in the area.

Visited. 2 adults, 4 children. Service was excellent. Food yummy. One child is gluten and diary intolerant. They have a full range that can cater for this. Used Tesco vouchers. Made it excellent value.

Nice friendly atmosphere clean and food was hot and nice to eat ,staff were really good to us especially Damion and Abbie would recommend to anyone intend to go again sometime.

Overpirced and £6.50 for Kopparberg - ive had better food at Iceland Freezer Shop. The food £15 for a pizza is a disgrace its not massive and i have had better elsewhere i.e. Sambucca do a 3 course lunch and early bird for £5.99 - i would never ever eat in a Pizza Express again.

Went with my two young grandsons and my daughter. Food was great as usual. The thin pizzas were super thin and very crispy round the edge - excellent. If you have a sweet tooth the Passion Fruit and Orange Meringue tart is a must try - gorgeous, but be quick I think its only on the menu till September. Our waitress was lovely, really pleasant and helpful and I then had the manager phone me to tell me that I had dropped my credit card under the table even before I had realised that I had lost it. Great service.

To call your this business Pizza Express is a joke. My wife and I went for a pizza before our planned visit to the cinema. When we entered the waitress told it was going to be half an hour for food which we thought was fine as we had an hour before the movie started. We waited 40 minutes for a starter then we were told with 5 minutes before our film was to start the pizza wasn’t ready. The waitress then said the pizzas were in the oven when you could see the chefs making them. We couldn’t wait any longer and had to go. The waitress refunded our starter, we then went to the cinema and our film had just sold out. So Pizza Express thanks for ruining our evening!!! How long does it take to make a pizza? Asda do there’s in 5 minutes!! Crap service from over priced pizza company!!!

Having eaten at Pizza Express in various locations around the country and have always been very happy with the service and quality of the food, it was sad and surprising when we visited Teeside Park PE yesterday. After waiting for about 5 mins for a table to become free we were seated, the restaurant didn't feel over busy and the staff weren't over stretched. After waiting for 15 minutes we asked a waitress if she could take our order. (No apology from her for our wait!). Eventually our drinks arrived. I had to ask the waitress again how long our starters would be, 20 minutes later our dough balls arrived. Same wait again for our main course.

We like Pizza Express so thought we would give the one on Teesside Park a go whilst we were in the area. (Visiting from West Sussex).

I will preface this with saying it was a friday evening at 5.30 so I know the restaurant was getting sorted for a busy evening.

Service is inadequate, it took 20 mins before drinks order taken and we were stuck in there for nearly 1:45 for a 2 course meal. Seemed there were too few staff to cope. We did complain about the slow service and little done to rectify. Food was okay but overall it's overpriced with a poor level of customer service.

Enjoyed the balls of weird fishy rice that we had. Good discounts with student ID. Pizza is nice. Have previously received bonus plastic in pizza previously though not on the last visit unfortunately.

We visited for lunch during a quiet time. There weren’t many staff working and they seemed rushed even for the few covers. It took ages from placing our order to get drinks , then starters. Our main took at least 40 mins to arrive , a little too long despite everything being handmade . The kitchen were repeatedly yelling service across the restaurant stressing the staff out.

Normally normally reasonable service had vanished, 3/4 of an hour to deliver our order which when it came consisted of two tepid pizzas, one pasta that had been under a hot lamp for so long that it had developed a crust and one hot pizza. I think the kitchen was in meltdown. Told the waitress who said sorry and did nothing. Told the manager as we left. Probably the worst pizzas ever

This is normally a regular favourite for a reasonably priced good quality pizza and service to match. My last two visits have seen a progressive deterioration in both service and food quality. On the last occasion waited 45 minutes for main course (no starter) and when it arrived one pizza was cold and one pasta dish "crisp" on top and only semi edible. Complaints met with an indifferent "sorry" If not eating with friends would have sent two dishes back. One pizza was OK but this is not good enough!

Telephone twice to check if voucher could be used on Saturday. It was confirmed that I could. When we were sat having coffee was informed I could not use the voucher. It was disappointing and embarrassing. When I checked the details on my phone it stated the voucher could be used 7 days a week.

Ordered calamari starter which took 20 mins then waited for our 2 pizzas. No pizzas an hour after we arrived then when I queried it was told they had forgotten to order them! Excuses about the difficult ordering system and also how busy they were. No one came over to apologise or explain, I had to get up and question the staff about our order. Really terrible service. We left then as couldn’t bear waiting any longer for food. Got our bottle of water on the house but still had to pay for the calamari. What an awful experience and I will never go back.

My husband and I visited for lunch. We ordered the 2 course lunch. My starter of garlic bread was a small chunk of dough with a bit of cheese on. My pizza was nice as usual, however why are they always served on cold plates .

2.00pm on a Wednesday. Plenty of tables, no staff. Once we were seated it took 15 minutes for anyone to take our order. Another 30 minutes for our starters to arrive, they were brought to us by the pizza chef after they sat on the side for what seems like ages. We had just finished our starters, which were very nice, when our main courses arrived, brought once again by the pizza chef, however, our starter plates were still in front of us so we had to move them to one side and find some clean cutlery from another table. At 4.15 we asked for the bill, at 4.30 we were still waiting to pay. The food was very nice, the service was shocking!

Always liked visiting here with the family, arrived 4.15 and starters didn’t arrive until 5.10 (one olives and one children’s dough balls!) can’t imagine how it takes that long to serve two simple starters!!?? Ended up having to ask for the bill and walked out hungry. Left at 5.40 without pizzas arriving to the table still? - no idea when they were eventually going to turn up!!! Always been a favourite of ours but think will have to give it a miss now! To wait an hour for starters alone is a joke!

Went on Sunday 4th February @16.45 not busy at all ordered the 2 course £10.95 waited for ever for the starter which was tomato and mozzarella easy to do, then waited a further 40 minutes for 2 pizzas in the mean time more People arrived at the table behind got served drinks 10 minutes later they got there's, hence still waiting for ours said 10 minutes ok waited 10 said 10 minutes again, eventually came cold burnt hard was left on the pass forget about, my friend couldn't eat it replaced but was discusting complained said the meal was free what meal it was horrible hence stopping on way home for food. Waiting for a reply from customer service won't hold my breath.

Downloaded an offer of 2 for the price of 1 main and ordered different pizzas.

Arrived at 6pm as booked, not too busy, waited 5 mins for a table to be prepared for us. After being seated we then waited 25 minutes, without drinks, for someone to take our order. They didn’t, we had to go and ask. We explained we’d booked for 6pm in order to be finished by 7.30. Starters eventually arrived 50 minutes after we sat down. We then waited for mains. And waited. Reminded staff at 7.15 we had been there over an hour. About to walk out when food finally arrived so we ate it quickly in order to leave by 7.30. Then had to find someone to get a bill. Will never return, utter waste of time and money.

Worse Pizza Express we have been to, only started using them a few months ago as we travel about a bit, this is our local one and it is rubbish, I should have got a savers range from the supermarket, had to send the Bolognaise back as the Pasta was hard and the pizzas were the most pitiful offerings. We shall definitely not be going back, the hierarchy need to get some staff who know what they are doing and understand Customer Service!!

Very poor and slow service despite being nearly empty. Eventually had to look for staff after waiting for half an hour. Food poor, cold and uninspiring. Not a patch on other Pizza Exoress’s. Will not be returning.

Really poor and slow service. Ordered a prawn dish as a starter - about 20 minutes later I was advised they had no prawns. The pizza had a pale soggy base. The sweet I had was tiny, and cost over £6. Received a liquer coffee which was cold and had to be sent back. Only positive was that we paid with Tesco vouchers - otherwise the price of the food would have been extortionate. They don't seem to have enough staff on an afternoon. This branch of pizza express really needs to gets its act together.

Booked this for a family meal and we were looking forward to a 'get together'.

The wait time gets longer each time. Having made an online booking we arrived and were advised of an hour long wait for starters as some staff hadn’t arrived for their shifts. Had Tesco vouchers to use so chose to wait. Waited approx 10 mins with no further contact from a staff member.

On arrival advised of 40min wait for food. Order taken 10 minutes after arriving. Starters appeared after another 35 mins. Pizza a full hour after ordering. Not acceptable

The whole dinning area is freezing . We waited a while for our starter and then well over a hour for our main .my daughter was so hungry . It arrived eventually and was cold !! Sent it back and it was sent back cold basic food hygiene esp with chicken ?? The plate was stone cold , The waitress questioned if I was ok to which I replied no it’s still cold her reply well we warm it up it over . obviously this oven must have been off ! And then she did nothing ,, I’m glad I had the 241 and even this I begrudged paying 25 for a cold meal and my daughter left her s as was cold n pasta was hard . A lot of people complaining on waiting time and food . Was supposed to returning this week for staff party meal but have changed venue . Sad as food is normally nice

We visited today as a group of 2 adults and 5 children (daughters birthday treat) and had booked for 2pm. We arrived at 1.40pm and apologised for being early but we were promptly sat down at our table. We were offered drinks after about 10 minutes and placed our food order about 5 minutes afterwards. We were waiting for around 45 minutes after ordering food when the waitress came over to tell us that there was no prawn starter available so we had to choose an alternative. The kids were getting bored and hungry by now and we hadn’t been offered the activity packs that came with the kids meal deal. We ended up taking the pots of pens and packs from the next table that the previous customers had left behind. Our starters came, I asked for new activity packs for the kids, then the substituted starter arrived another 5 minutes after the others. Food was ok. We were just finishing off our starters when the waitress arrived with our mains! We had barely put our cutlery down and our table hadn’t even been cleared yet! The mains were ok.... We had our order taken for puddings. By this time I think we were the only customers left in the restaurant. 4 out of 7 puddings arrived, shortly followed by the 2 adults puddings. The final child’s pudding came a few minutes later. It was only an ice lolly so why it couldn’t be brought out with the others is beyond me. We still hadn’t been given the kids bambichinnos that were supposed to come with the puddings, so I went over to a waitress and asked for them and also the bill. She looked blankly at me as if I’d spoken in a foreign language. Another waitress then came to he table and asked if everything was ok. I said we were just waiting for the bambichinnos but had been assured by the previous waitress that they were on their way. They did arrive about 5 minutes later. All in all the whole visit was a shambles from start to finish. Such a shame as our local pizza express (Northallerton) has always had brilliant service. We will not be visiting this particular restaurant again.

Big mistake choosing the superfood salad. Was basically lettuce leaves with French dressing and charged £12.50!!!!!

Don't get me wrong the pizza looks and tastes very nice but not worth the money.

In the last 6 weeks we have visited Pizza Express and been turned away 4 times. Twice because of 'staff' issues, once it was just randomly closed and then today they said they were too busy (even though it was only 2/3rds full). I would love to give them my business but just can't seem to get a table...the senior management need a serious review of how the store is being managed. We do not have this issue at any other pizza express.

Quite simply the worst service ever.

After ordering the ‘bolognese rigatoni’ frequently I was sad to see it had been removed from the menu. In it’s place, a penne bolognese, I decided to give it a try all the same and was disappointed. Very bog standard bolognese sauce that was not to the same

Three of us went to spend £50 of vouchers received as a gift - it wasn't enough!! Pizzas are very very overpriced, service is incredibly slow. The food quite honestly is bland, not a patch on another pizza outlet at Teesside park. Whatever you do, do NOT go for the thinnest base pizza - it looked more like a wrap or taco than a pizza base. Even the thickest one was wafer thin and sparse with the toppings. We would have been better off with a supermarket offering, which we considered collecting on the way home to fill us up.

Having eaten here several times now I have never yet had a bad experience, and tonight was no exception. We were greeted promptly and although the restaurant was fully booked, the waitress suggested we book a table for half an hour's time, which we did, and popped off for a drink across the road before coming back.

We ate here on Saturday, and spent 2 hrs 20 minutes in total. We had to ask for an initial drinks order, ask for food order, one starter was missed and served after the other members had finished. ( it wasn’t worth waiting for) Main courses took an age and with three hungry children it wasn’t easy. Main meals were ok but the chicken in the salad was extremely chewy in parts. We didn’t complain as there didn’t seem to be a manager around, plenty of staff around but none seemed to be interested in our area.

My family and I visited Pizza Express, Teesside Park on a Saturday lunchtime. The restaurant was not particularly busy but the service was extremely slow. We were there for a total of 2 hours and 40 minutes. A lot of items on the menu were unavailable We complained and the manager explained that they were short of staff and had supply issues that were beyond her control. She apologised and we had our bill discounted.

Visited here at lunch time. We were pleasantly shown to our table and ordered drinks. Didn’t particularly fancy pizza but picked out the Bolognese Rigatoni to order and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, a few minutes later the waitress returned to tell me they were going through a menu change and didn’t have what I’d ordered. I then had to choose something else however there was only a couple of other pasta dishes to choose from. I ended up going for the chicken pollo pesto which ended up being pretty tasty. My mother really enjoyed her lasagne as she has done before. Service was good and almost felt sorry for the waitress but still felt a bit let down. The 2 for 1 on mains voucher did help it feel a bit better however.

Visited here with my boyfriend with a voucher for 2 courses for £10.95 which was great value. We shared dough-balls and garlic bread which were lovely. My leggera American hot pizza was also delicious and I would order again. Would not visit without a voucher though as pizzas are expensive for what you get.

What a terrible Pizza Express! And such a pity a location is great and brand is best in this high traffic location. Staff are the problem and the area manager needs to get involved fast here.

I came here with work colleagues and my friend and I got pizzas, a pandana and a barbacoa. We cut them both in half and exchanged half each, it was a great way to get to try two different fab pizzas! Fresh, flavoursome and a great place to eat!

No chef managers maned kitchens-good job done and waiter and waitresses well done under the circumstances.good costomer service. You have all done a good job.

Looking for somewhere to go on a Friday and decided to try Pizza Express. The food was ok but nothing to shout about. The drinks were very expensive and the cheescake I had was definitely not worth over £6. The girl that served us was friendly but I don't think it made any difference that we booked on line. Don't think we will be going back.

Im amazed how a restaurant can not serve hot food. Still awaiting apology. Food was reheated and when i received my replacement i asked why it was a small portion the waitress rudely replied well it comes in set portions all the food at pizza express is bought in and reheated. Nothing is fresh in this restaurant. With expensive prices, appaling food and service I'm not surprised places like this go into liquidation.

Great food great value for money staff really nice the menu was good. Wheel chair freindly, toilets nice and clean.

Food was good & staff were very helpful with a special request. Nice interior for a new build as previously have been to PE in quirky old buildings. Great deal with an online code.

I was taken here by my friend for my birthday tea and although busy, the service was very good. The venue was clean and tidy and the food and drinks served promptly and the food was hot. Our server was very friendly and informative but not pushy, just the right mix. It can get loud when it is very busy but the evening we went was not too bad. Would definitely go again.

Pizzas are always amazing but the manager is just awful! She also needs to learn to dress. Had a super short dress on with a split literally up to her bottom you could see her pants... Not what you want to see when eating. Her attitude stunk! They were not that busy, said we had ordered a table didn't care. Team member that served us after however was fab! She was a little slow but so polite and made such an effort! Pizza it's self was super tasty! Crunchie on outside and soft in middle, perfect pizza in my opinion. Desserts were ok, cooked a little too much and had burnt on the bottom.

Visited today and arrived at the restaurant at approximately 1:30pm. There were many empty tables but it still took the staff around 10 minutes to come and offer us a table. We debated leaving at this point, and honestly I wish I had. We were then seated and staff returned 15 minutes later to take our order. Our drinks arrived shortly after and I had to ask for a clean glass as mine was so dirty. No apology was given. I really can’t complain about the food which was lovely, however the staff really did look run off their feet. There were only about 3 staff serving the whole place which is ridiculous for Easter half term when it’s bound to be busy. We won’t be returning.

Good food and attentive service. Can always find some sort of deal online so 60 pound meal cost only 30.

To be fair we had Tesco vouchers so price could have been worse but even at the discounted price of £55 I feel disappointed by todays visit with family. The restaurant was absolutely freezing cold and probably should have been closed in todays weather. The pizzas were good but unfortunately were cold within minutes of being brought to the table..... and dont mention the garlic bread ! I expected a sharing size garlic bread for £4.95 but no it was minuscule - perfectly pleasant but tiny !! All in all we were disappointed ... and still defrosting ! Shant be back I dont think after todays experience which is a shane :/

I made a reservation via an automated telephone service earlier in the week for 5 people at 17.00 for a celebration meal for my daughter. Upon arrival at the restaurant, the manager greeted us, but had got our reservation details incorrect, so we had to wait while she rearranged the table for the appropriate number of people. Once sat down, I noticed there were very few staff working & anticipated a delay in service. I therefore ordered the food along with the drinks straight away( I allowed 1 hour 30 min to eat). Forty minutes passed & eventually our starters ( dough balls) arrived. I had to ask several times for my salad. Again after a further delay, the main courses arrived. My pizza arrived with a sloppy base, not worth £14 to say the least. A gluten free pizza arrived, then two child size margaritas. A hair was found in two of the margaritas and my daughter was served the wrong order. At this point, they offered to replace the wrong pizza and the two hairy pizzas, possibly box them so we could take them with us as I had stated we were short of time. We declined this offer as we had to be elsewhere & didn’t fancy eating in the car. I began to feel quite frustrated, so explained that I just wanted to leave. The waitress alerted the manager. The manager did not come to apologise, just sent a message via the waitress that we were able to leave without paying the bill. I was told that there were three trainee chefs on duty that night - Friday ) It was pretty obvious there was no supervision of these chefs and certainly not enough staff. Disappointing visit and I shall be avoiding this restaurant in future.

We visited Pizza Express as a family treat night out. We walked through door, a member of staff looked at us but did not acknowledge us. We were seated and it was 20 minutes before any drink/food order was taken. This was the start of the slow service. The main meals took around 40 minutes to come with no apology for slow service just a miserable waitress who clearly didn’t want to be at work. The children weren’t given their frothy milk either, but because of the heat inside the building we were happy just to leave. I don’t know why the air con was not on but it was very hot and lot said of people had red faces!

Very friendly shown to a table with my hubby and daughter seated drinks order taken, waiter and waitress very helpful food arrived delious hot and very tasty to the eye . Loved whole experience eat out a lot really recommend it will be back !!

The first waiter we had was lovely. He made an effort with my two year old and checked our order was correct. The starters came out and were lovely tasting but cold. The restaurants air conditioning was on and it was 2 degrees outside and blistering winds so naturally the food got cold very quickly. My two year olds teeth were chattering and I ended up having to put his coat on! Our waiter then vanished into thin air and it was like we were completely forgotten about! Our drinks glasses were empty, our starter plates weren’t removed from the table and our main courses were delayed in arriving and side dishes had to be asked for on a number of occasions. We then asked for a take away box three times. The service was terrible and what made it worse was that the restaurant was not busy in the slightest. Three or four covers at least for a restaurant that does at least sixty covers. We will not be eating here again! Which is a shame as it was my first experience eating at Pizza Express which turned into my last!

Gave Pizza Express a try before going to the cinema but was not impressed. We both had Calamari to start but it was undercooked, the coating was very bready and not very nice.

Havent been here for a couple of years, don't know why because we weren't disappointed, in fact the meal was lovely. It was quite busy for a Tuesday but the staff were very friendly, pizza was delicious, lovely coffee. My wife had a salad and it would have fed two people, in fact we brought some home as it was too nice to throw away

Judging by some of the less than flattering reviews for this restaurant, it would seem that we must have visited on a good day??

Visited Pizza Express for a post cinema meal at 7.20pm tonight with my 80year old Mum - 10/01/2018. The restaurant was approximately 1/3 full. After waiting 5 minutes a waitress whom I had watched setting a table - there must have been more than a dozen empty tables already set, wandered over to say that there would be a 15 minute wait for a table! When I queried the large number of empty tables I was told they were ‘so far behind’; no apology or suggestion that we sat at a table and had a drink whilst we looked at a menu. Unbelievable lack of service. We left and went next door to Chiquito which was twice as busy. We were immediately sat at a table and enjoyed fantastic service and food. Pizza Express could learn a lot from Chiquito.

A lovely venue , staff very helpful , the pizza choice was tasty , made the children very welcome . A pleasant afternoon

My wife and i re visited this restaurant on sat 9th of sept.we reluctantly booked a a table on line to make sure we get in .we were pleased we did , as the restaurant was heaving with customers .there were partys , family gatherings and every table was taken .terry and his outstanding team really worked their socks off to make sure everything was running smoothly.we were served by the same waitress who served us on our first visit .unbeknown to her we had previously a disasterous experience.on this occasion everything went like clockwork , the order was taken , our food arrived within 15 minutes which we thought was great.good presentation , great taste .. all in all ..fantastic.when it came to settle the bill i asked to ve a word with terry the manager .

Service was really slow, waited about 45 minutes for food and it was freezing cold, desert was burnt, very desapointing

We decided after we had been bowling we would try pizza express... we booked a table for 8.30 seen as it was bonfire night... we were greeted when we walk in but afer that the service went down hill.. took the staff 15 mins to ask us if we wanted a drink ( bearing in mind the place was empty) .. most of the staff were talking .... took another 10 mins to ask if we were ready to order...the food was loverly but the service wasnt so we were dissapointed.. not a good end to the night.

I recently took my two teenage nephews and one of their girlfriends to Pizza Express for a birthday treat.

Brought 8yr old daughter & a friend here for tea one Saturday evening. We arrived without booking & despite it being very busy they shuffled things around to accommodate us which I was very grateful for. Having had a late lunch only the kids ate but I was so impressed with their menu. 3 courses for £6.95 is fabulous value. Dough balls to start with tomatoes & cucumber. A choice of pizza or pasta for main - both picked margarita (one with ham). The girls cleared all their food while I sat with a starter of mixed olives & a sparking water. We skipped the milk with chocolate sprinkles as we were in a slight hurry & went straight for a fruit lolly & a brownie. The kids ate absolutely everything. Also this place has the best kids activities to occupy them whilst waiting. Friendly, efficient staff & great food. We'll be coming again soon.

I brought my mum for a treat and what a let down! The food was average but the service was absolutely rubbish. I asked for some ketchup to go with the chips and they said they didn't have any? As in they don't ever have ketchup. What?!?Needless to say, we left pretty quickly and won't be back!

Visited Sunday evening - little quiet but service was great and the food (pizza x 3 and beef rigatoni x 1) was tasty and the unusual high standard - used 2 for 1 vouchers, which made it great value for money.

Zapparoli Romana pizza was nice to be fair, fresh, tasty and the little red Roquito's were sweet!....choc desert ok. Staff were very friendly and helpful, second time of eating their.

Arrived on a Thursday evening and was left waiting around despite catching the eye of a few members of staff and noticing empty tables. Was shown to a cramped table and the waiter walked away before we had even taken our seats. We were then left for a good 15 minutes before anyone came over to take our drink order. Food was served promptly however I think the staff did forget about our table as mains were served as the starters were cleared. Food was all round good as usual as we have been here several times before. Again, left with clear plates and the waitress rudely said "you ready for the bill?" No offer of desserts or anything else. We had a voucher to use and had to call the waitress back to the table as she rushed off as soon as we said yes to the bill. Not once were we asked how the food was, if we wanted anything else, suggestions for drinks etc. Really enjoy the food here but we won't be returning due to reoccurring bad service.

Visited here 2day with family for lunch food average nothing special we had pizzas I asked for garlic or mayo and guy told me they don't do sauces as people like to taste the food never heard that before but there you go like a said it waz ok lunch but nicer places to eat over Teesside park so a don't think al be back in a hurry

Our first visit to this restaurant and most probably our last. First of all, we arrived at the restaurant and were not greeted promptly despite several staff members standing around talking. We were then told we had to wait for our table to be cleaned, when the restaurant was basically empty (not surprised as to why)The waitress was what only could be described as rude took our drinks order and walked away whilst we were still speaking to her. After placing our order the food arrived to which I requested some tomato sauce, the waitress looked at me as if I was stupid and said we don't do sauce, then proceeded to walk away from our table and laugh and joke at my expense with another colleague unaware I could hear. At that a second waitress passed us sniggering.In spite of this, the main course was lovely so we decided to stay for dessert, not that we received what we ordered (unsure how the waitress got confused as only half the dessert menu was available at the time but whatever) Overall lovely food, shocking service. If we are to eat at pizza express again it will not be this restaurant. Disappointing.

Never been to a pizza express before and was amazed by the quality of the pizza, I loved the zapporelli. The staff were amazing and attentive and great with my kids also. Definately be going back.

Booked online and we then amended the booking, which was easy to do - Thanks Terry for your help and being so customer focussed. Michelle, our waitress was fab, efficient and looked after us very well. Food came quickly, was hot and it is great to see the Chefs at work - they are working all the time and ensuring their work area is spotless, which is great. Used Nectar vouchers and O2 vouchers so meal was very reasonable. Been before several times, and always had good service and tasty food - my 11 year old loved the seafood risotto and their pizzas are the best.

We went there on Sunday as a family of seven and our little dog we sat outside and the waitress was attentive and friendly ,the food was amazing and the manager was very helpful I've been to a lot of pizza express but this was by far the best service

The staff were lovely and I couldn't fault their service, served by a girl called Emma I think she was called, she was lovely and great at her job. The manager Terry was lovely.The food was really good, fresh and different. The kids meals were great value for money and they always have offers on!I will certainly will be returning!
