Pizza Cottage in County Durham

Told us 10 minutes but it was 45mins.

Asked for a chicken kebab got a pitta bread with 3 pieces of chicken anywhere else you get offered salad and chips, absolute shocking.

Staff were very friendly, me nd my lass shared a large kebab and there was more than enough will call again when passing

We travel.all the way from seaham for a pizza here the bolegnese with added pepporoni are to die for . Highly recommend

Stopped there for tea last night had to wait 20 mins because she was still making the doe for pizza but well worth the wait, meat feist pizza delicious, donner meat was delicious, salad like you’ve never seen before in a pitta with lashing of garlic sauce was just out of this world ❤️ thank you ladies we will defo be back 👏

I went here yesterday the place was spotless, the two ladies were lovely and the food was delicious and fresh it's the best kebab I've had I had pitta bread with mixed mint salad on top with garlic and a portion of donner kebab and a pizza I will definitely go back there again next time I visit Barnard Castle👌😋😋

I ordered a takeaway chicken parmo, salad, chips, and garlic mushrooms. I got leather parmo, salad, brown lumps for chips, and garlic slugs, complete with slime. Not nice, it was the first and last time I'll be going to Pizza Cottage in Barnard Castle. I felt ill all night but didn't actually vomit.

I stopped in Barnard Castle the other night to get some food. I spotted pizza cottage as I parked up, there were a few people in so I thought It must be OK. I asked for a donner kebab and chips, only to be told there would be a 30 minute wait as the server muttered something I couldn't understand. So I thought I'll have a shish kebab instead. I got told the same wait for that so I went ahead with a donner. Then I got hit by the £10 card limit, I think she said my order came to £9.80. So I ordered onion rings to Make the order up. She barked something at me I think was asking me if I wanted chilli sauce and garlic sauce. I panicked and said yes. After a long wait I spotted her ladling sauce onto a kebab which turned out to be mine. I took it back to my hotel and was met with a disappointing mess. The kebab was luke warm at best after 5 minutes. I have no idea what sauces were on it but it was disgusting. I picked out what warm meat I could find and binned the rest. Would not recommend.

The food was beautiful and very reasonably priced. The staff were lovely, friendly and put a lot of care into our order. Highly recommend

Standard of food has really gone down hill. Used to be the best in the area but chicken kebab was an absolute disgrace, literally thrown together. It went straight in the bin

This place used to be good but now I'm getting soggy, mushy chips and a chicken burger that was so soggy I couldn't finish it.

Donner kebab and salad just piled on top of an uncut pitta bread like beans on toast would be served - it's supposed to be sliced open and filled!!! A £10 minimum spend by card isn't great either. Card payments cost a retailer much less than 1%, usually only a fraction of 1% - that's less than a penny in every pound spent. I was encouraged to order food I didn't want or need! Rather than do this I asked if it could be rounded up to £10 as a tip or pay for some chips but give them to the next customer. We agreed on the latter but that didn't happen, the next customer was made to pay for their chips!

The worst lamb shish we have ever had. The lamb was not fresh and marinated in lemon and herbs, the meat was tough once cooked and cold. The chips were not fresh and just about warm when we got home. If you marinate meat in lemon it basically cures it and goes brown, lamb meat is red. When I complained the staff made excuses and said the manager was not around to give a refund. Now I am £20 out of pocket and still hungry. Staff really didn’t give a toss. Don’t waste your money.

Ordered donner kebab with salad and it was served the traditional way except the pitta bread wasn’t cut but yes it was delicious. Wife had pepperoni pizza and very nice. Staff pleasant, good service

Great donner kebabs. Always have been. They make their own chilli sauce. Service is no nonsense. Becky behind the counter is a legend in her own right.

Truly the worst kebab I have ever had. It was piled on the pitta and soaked with grease and watery mayo. Somehow the chicken was dry.

First time we’ve ordered from Pizza Cottage and If I judged it purely on customer service I’d give them 1 star. The girl who served us was ok but not very polite and welcoming but the other member of staff serving was unbelievably rude to the customers who came in after us. If she’d talked to me the same way as the other customers I’d have walked out- there’s plenty of other places in Barny to get a pizza. Fortunately the food is much better than the service and worth 5 stars. I’ll try them again but if the customer service is no better I’ll try elsewhere.

Just had the most disgusting excuse for a Shish kebab. Not only was it cold, but on getting home it was a gloopy mess piled on top of a pitta bread. Looked disgusting. Didn’t eat much of it. My wife’s pizza was over cooked to within an inch of its life. Even the chips were cold and rubbery. A regular visitor to the area, I won’t be going back any time soon. Shame, it used to be really nice.

Just received a 2 parmos got them.home.the chicken is raw and there is no white sauce on.its dry as straw and gone straight in the bin.weve travelled from Bishop to get this. Never again.

Only had cheesy chips and garlic sauce. Really nice but tiny portions. Other stuff on the grill looked decent. Friendly staff.

This place is a gem. I can honestly say that it was the Best Chicken wrap I have ever had. Simply delicious. Lots of tasty chicken and fresh salad. My husband had the Donna kebab and even he said that he had never had one as good, and he is a expert, gets one each week wherever we are. The next time we stay in Barnard Castle we will definitely be back . Just a shame that we don't have one as good where we live.

We went to Pizza Cottage as it the Restaurant we planned to go to was closed. The girl on the counter (blonde hair) was very welcoming and so helpful. She was very chatty while we waited for our food. Well done ! The food was excellent …will definitely be back again.

What a wonderful little place, the ladies who run it are just outstanding great customer service both polite and very helpful, I ordered the kebab wrap with the mint salad, as I remember stumbling across this place about 5 years ago going home to Carlisle and I was de routed via barned. I was so excited to try it again and it did not disappoint the flavours are still there! And what surprised me is the price still hadn't changed after all these years, large donner wrap and chips for less than £5 bloody brilliant. Well done ladies keep up the good work and see u soon hopefully not as long as 5 years though.

Visited just before closing time but they were able to give us some options of what was still available. Great mix of salad that you don't often see in kebab places anymore. Chips cooked fresh

Shocking disgusting food my husband and I both had upset stomachs the food was tasteless and greasy and cold certain members of staff foul mouthed as there was a local drunk in there and staff thought nothing of using the F word when talking to the drunk I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody

Went to Pizza Cottage in Barnard Castle on Thursday night 22nd April 2021. Lovely place, lovely staff. They had been rushed off their feet, especially after there had been a power cut on the other side of the town. But that was no problem to them. The pizza's that I got were bloody lovely, thanks pizza cottage 😀😀

Highly recommend, have visited Pizza Cottage a couple of times over the years while on holiday in that area, and their margherita pizza is amazing, the nicest cheese pizza that I've ever had from any pizza takeaway. Keep up the good work. I'll definitely try and call in next time I'm around that neck of the woods

Very tasty food, happy friendly staff, I would highly recommend visiting and eating from here. Very clean shop and great value for money. I'm not a local so I do travel to visit this shop on a regular basis, great customer service, they ladies are brilliant. I missed it when it closed for 3 weeks due to covid, as they were making changes to protect us as customers and themselves, keep doing what you're doing cos it's brilliant 👏 👍

It was a cold rainy day in June, I, Roberto Gillroy, was sat in the back seat of my friends car beginning to feel the cold hard grip of hunger, my stomach growling like an enraged beast of the night. The dark day in Darlington behind us, the bright promise of pizza in Barnard Castle on the horizon ahead of us. "Pizza Cottage looks decent like" George stated as we drove towards the quint town. In the shop my good friend George was rushed into ordering whilst the woman behind the counter made snide comments about us to two other customers behind us. The absolute gall of this sickened me to my core, but not put off by the terrible customer service we battled on ordering our food.... "it'll be about half an hour" she replied. fair enough i thought they could be busy but half an hour is a fair wait for three pizzas, never the less we decided to go for a small drive while we waited. this in itself is its own tale that i shall not spin here. We returned with ten minutes to spare and decided to wait outside the shop to allow other people in. It was at this point we heard the chuckles of locals passing that I knew we had made a grave mistake, other fellow men were going to a shop just down the road, ordering and collecting their food quicker than we were being seen too. one by one the queue began to shorten until I and my friend the crazy Rosscoe stood inside of the shop awaiting our call and summons to receive our slice of heavenly pizza. However our nemesis of this story stood in-front of us furious and wielding tongs with great hatred whether it was aimed at us or not remains to be seen. "Hawaiian" she called out. ahhh yes my pizza i thought but wait, two women behind me added to the confusing fray by laying claim to it. "its this gentlemens here" she pointed her tongs towards I the great Gillroy, I stepped forward to claim my feast "but these aren't" she yelled snatching away the sweet can of coke and garlic dip. In my heart I knew I had ordered and paid for a can of coke and a garlic dip but before I could say my part, this woman in front of me, the antagonist to this yarn slammed down with the power of thor upon my pizza box and yelled "oh just f@$!ing take it" and so i did just that I took my rightful pizza coke and dip and scrambled out of the shop like cartoon mouse fleeing a cartoon cat. Back at the car I opened my pizza box expecting a fantastic feast of sweet and savoury Hawaiian pizza however I was confronted by an under cooked mess the first bite said it all as the cheese fell straight off and i was left with the overwhelming taste of tomato and no cheese or topping, I sought the cold refreshing taste of coke in order to quench my thirst and to rid my taste buds of this 'pizza' but unfortunately I was met with a can of fairly warm coke.... Oh the humanity I wailed as my two friends also tried to eat their meals but both finding their own problems with the disgusting under cooked. I am now writing this review from the thrown of my house, the toilet, unable to enjoy my evening because of my wounded stomach.... Fellow reader take heed of this cautionary tale and do not visit this place that is the epitome of terrible customer service and revolting food or you too will be staring into the ether, the eternal abyss sh!@ting your guts out because of a terrible pizzeria....

One star is too much 😷i last went there about 2 years ago and the food was so bad I said never again, but seen it had a revamp thought maybe someone else had took over and thought I’d give it another shot should of known better, the Parmo was like eating plastic (definitely frozen ) and the garlic bread wasn’t even cooked and they must of put 12 cloves on it, it’s so annoying because there isn’t one decent takeaway in Barney the one in Middleton delivers which is a damn site better than anything round here, the woman who served us was so rude everything was too much hard work and the other woman who normally serves us was out the back arguing with a man calling him all the names under the sun never again

Terrible! called in tonight from work ordered shish special kebab and a donna kebab, the lamb on the shish special was not shish but a dried up bit of lamb that the lazy girl had found somewhere. She told me 15 minutes and it was ready in about 5 unfortunately I sat in the car so never saw what she was doing. I have witnessed this her do this before when they were busy one night, heard her say to her colleague "I used that bit of chicken off the back of the grill" some poor guy got that on his order. Called to complain they wouldn't give me the girls name as I wanted to contact the owner. WILL NOT BE BACK.

Stopped off here after playing a gig at a bar in the town - the kebab I got was amazing - so much so I stopped again after driving back from Penrith to Durham a week later - again THE most amazing Donner kebab. Staff were very polite and helpful . Cant recommend this take away highly enough. Wish I lived in Barny!!!!!

This is my favourite takeaway in barnyard castle. Their pizza dough is so light and crispy. It's girgeous. Their chicken kebabs are juicy large grilled prices of chicken with their recipe of chilli sauce.... The best ever!! And the girls are lovely there.

Kebabs ok but expensive. They still want to charge customers 50p for paying with credit card which I thought was banned from January 2018.

Pizza good, the kabob was tasty and loved the Donner meat (think gyro meat). The place was small but the employees were very helpful. For quick tasty takeout I highly recommend.

We happened to visit The Pizza Cottage on the Friday of the carnival, WOW, very busy and like something from the wild west, my utmost sympathy goes to the ladies behind the counter who were under great pressure and stress but still managed to turn out pizzas that weren't that bad.

Just ordered a mixed kebab and a pizza genuinely the most disgusting food iv ever tasted. None of us have bothered to eat it. Almost broke a tooth on the chips.. the salad consisted of onion and red cabbage... garlic bread was like a piece of cardboard! Every thing I asked for they have given the complete opposite. Never again 🤢 X

Whilst staying at a local caravan site we had a takeaway from here. When we were waiting to pick it up a bunch of youths came in drunk at 7pm swearing ;very rude. Some of the food was ok but the large kebab for 2 we had was dry and inedible. We have had takeaways from here in the past and they were much better. Very poor tonight.

Just had a 8" chicken pizza today 24/2/17 and was a soggy mess! It was like eating wet bread!!!
