Had the best cod I've had in a long time,fresh, generous portion, light crispy batter,a delight. No wonder they have received so many awards.

It’s been a long time since we called in here. I’m sure we’ve had fish & chips in at least a dozen places in several different countries. Among the most memorable was one on the Isle of Wight where the offering was darn good served with Japanese beer but truth be told this place is still the best. Drakes in York was our most recent and almost equally great. But Kilkeel Pit Stop is king. Now I’ve made the journey to Dolphin in Dungannon advertised as the big winner in NI but I disagree. The fresh fresh cod fish served up was just superb and I really do prefer cod. The batter was bubbly light and melting. The chips just perfection. All that was needed was salt. The food had a trace of greasy which is unavoidable. The thing with all fish and chips is eat ‘em when they are hot which in the case of this place is a very easy pleasure. Go Pit Stop.

Stopped in for something real nice. But we were overly impressed. The premises are spotless. The lady at the counter was so lovely! The food was so fresh it was not greasy at all. Which is very hard to find when everything’s deep-fried. We got a few bits to try the different options and everything was cooked to perfection. Must haves: Chicken burger, cod bites and their chips. Usually wouldn’t eat this type of food but this has convinced me otherwise. Will be back! 100% recommend when passing through Kikeel

The fish was not as per the photos. Drove across to a caravan in Cranfield was cold. The order was correct and as requested. Not sure on the pricing as I did not pay.

Food is not cooked I tried to ring shop and explain and happen to be the chef who answered he hung up on me i got no choice of leaving back the food 20 pound worth of food in bin bottle of coke was only thing taste right not be back this was not first occasion either

My family tried to eat here tonight. The only review I can write is as follows... Everyone can make a mistake... EVERYONE!!! But to be rude when confronted with it is just down right unprofessional. Wrong kind of business to be in if that’s the way Pitstop deal with their mistakes!!! I know my complaint fell on deaf ears and have been left in no doubt our custom means nothing to them. That level of rudeness took effort... effort that could of been put in to getting our order right!!!

A great takeaway in Kilkeel. Sadly we had a long wait, and they gave us plastic sachets for the vinegar. Not good for the planet!!! So add the salt and vinegar at point of sale and you get an extra star from me.

Nothing for vegetarians therefore lose the business for my whole family. If I can’t eat there then we’re all going somewhere else. Very disappointing in this day and age when there are more and more veggies and vegans out there. Chips and veggie burger all cooked in lard therefore not veggie. Used to love it here when I could get a pizza but they took that off the menu years ago. Was excited to notice they were doing a veggie burger but gutted when I found out it wasn’t even vegetarian.

Called here today for dinner with me my husband and 2 kids, ordered kids meals which were great value for money, me and husband ordered steak ciabbata and a large chip between us, shocked was understatement when steak ciabattas came out, peppered sauce mush and onions overload and I counted about 8 small peices of steak, pretty disappointed reported 2 a member of staff who to be honest just basically shrugged her shoulders and said that it was measured out and didn't seem to deal with complaint, pretty disgusted after spending almost £25 will not be back

This place serves up exquisite fish & chips. We got sit in cod & chips (£8.20) with a soft drink. Now I thought that eight quid was a bit steep. I almost changed my mind (not fully) once I saw and tasted the portion of cod. It was so fresh and delicious. It was also a plump portion of boneless, skinless cod, likely half an inch at its thickest part and it was perfectly cooked. The batter too was crispy light. There was no sign of excessive cooking oil - residual oil from the food was trace at best. The batter could do with a little bit more salt but that’s my personal preference alone. The chips were very good but not great. The portion was good but could have been more generous. So as I said before while it’s excellent the price makes it a real treat as at £8.20 it is really pitched at the top end price wise. So it’s 4 star on balance.

Probably one of the best carry outs in Kilkeel, would certainly recommend this take away to anybody not the quickest but great quality

I had found out previously that I couldn't get chips here because they are cooked in dripping rather than oil. Since a friend was getting fish and chips I went to see if there was anything veggie on the menu. When I decided on onion rings and the veggie burger I clarified what they were cooked in and was told they too were cooked in dripping. Sadly, because of this, there was nothing that I could eat. If you are vegetarian then this isn't the place to go.

Beautiful fish but very dear Good homeade chips I think if price we're different I'll be in every weekend when in caravan park

Called in for scampie and chips, the portion of scampie while small was very tasty, but the chips were mediocre. Scampie and chips peas and a drink cost £9.00 which was in my opinion very expensive. Staff more or less ignore you, snd cafe takeway area was cold. Overall a disappointing experience.

Stopped here on the way through for a quick dinner.

Wanted to get chips and burgers for the family on a busy Easter Sunday evening and found the app via Facebook. Sent the order and got confirmation. 10 mins before selected collection time I received a text message saying my order had been cancelled with no explanation. Drove past and the establishment was closed!

Me & my family went for fish & chips & weren’t disappointed.As much as I enjoy fish and chips I don’t eat them that often because I have found it hard to find a place where they aren’t to greasy.But while staying in Killeel & after being recommended the pit stop we decided to go & they were excellent,not greasy at all & a decent size of lovely cod.You could also order haddock & have them baked if you wished.As well as fish they also serve a lot of other things such as burgers,phillysteaks & many more.If you are in kilkeel or around the area I would highly recommend that you give it a try.

From the outside this looks like a typical fast food joint and it was only hunger that persuaded my wife and I to give it a try. However I can report that the Cod and Chips we both chose was superb. The fish was beautifully white and cooked to perfection while the chips were crispy on the outside and nothing like the greasy rubbish so often served up at inferior establishments. We were served excellent coffee and the young waitress was friendly and efficient. I can honestly say this was the best fish and chips we have had for years.

Aye after a great advertising campaigne yer man climbing up mountains and the rest we decided to call in and test the food ...

Too expensive to go here again. Didn't think it was value for money. There's too many other places about to waste time, money & quality to go back here again.

Got scampi and Chargrill salad bowl. Chargrill is a complete waste of money, looks nothing like picture on menu. Some onion, tomato, lettuce and a bit of dry chicken on top !! Trashy cheap salad. The 5 pieces of scampi that I got were ok but expensive at 3-4 quid

Christmas Eve and I’m starving- pitstop is still open, not been here in a long time but it’s got loads of awards etc etc and was always super clean. Ordered a quarter pounder with cheese, a small chip and a pastie. Was really surprised at the state of what was in the bag when I got home. The amount of grease on the pastie and the burger was shockingly bad, meant that the whole lot went in the bin. What a waste of 6.90. Would not be back.

De haber estado en muchos chippers en la zona, de Kilkeel en sí todo el camino hasta Strangford, no hay duda de que todos los premios son regularmente este lugar gana bien merecida. Los peces pueden haber saltado desde el mar sobre el plato que fresca, y las patatas fritas son consistentemente fresco y extremadamente delicioso. En cuanto a la tienda en sí, es siempre limpias (incluyendo el baño! ) y el personal es siempre más que amable. Yo no haría en ningún otro sitio de Kilkeel si estás buscando un hotel de 5 estrellas de almuerzo!

Tengo ambos y sentarse en llevar y tengo que decir que la calidad de la comida de la parada en boxes ha sido agradable. Me gustan sus hamburguesas de queso y pollo con salsa de sus fichas y quebradas de pollo. Sin duda la parada en boxes de nuevo usando.

Great tasting food. Wasn't from the area and nearly every other restaurant in the town was closed by 8.30 so this we place was a god sendand the food and service was great.

Took my we ones here after school they really enjoyed the food and it was all eaten which is really unusual with my kids so must of been good my chicken curry chips with stuffing was fabulous

Simplemente el mejor pescado y patatas fritas en cooperación. Comer en o no hace ninguna diferencia para llevar a la gran calidad de la comida servida en el restaurante. Las instalaciones limpias y muy personal muy agradable.

Hoguera Parada ofrecen preciosas, limpias, pescado fresco y patatas fritas. No grasienta y muy buena parte de tamaño. Los precios son razonables y el menú tiene una gran variedad. Sin duda lo recomiendo si alguna vez en la zona de kilkeel!

This is a family favourite for getting fish and chips - their fish batter is always perfectly crispy, and their chips are delicious. Their steak kebabs are also fantastic. A wee bit on the pricey side, but if you're wanting to experience traditional fish and chips at their best, this is your go-to-shop!

The ingredients are locally sourced the staff are very helpful and polite ,best fish and chips i have ever had so far, i will always get food here if i am passing. The pit stop has very tasty food i can see why they have won lots of awards, well worth a return visit.

Kilkenny is the largest port for fishing vessels in N. Ireland. The Pit-Stop is located practically behind the docks. It's easy to see how the fish is so fresh. Secondly, the area is known for growing potatoes and the shop's chips are fresh cut. The fish and chips is as good as any from this genre and the ingredients which are locally sourced show it. The haddock made this old New Englander smile and the staff was kind enough to make our "fries" golden, brown and delicious the way we like them!

My no. 1 place ti check in when visiting family, the super chips are to die for and the place is always clean

We sat in the restaurant area and both ordered haddock and chips..best fish and chips ever. Very clean, nice staff. Would definitely would eat there again.

The portions are quite skimpy and you have usually a long wait..... Food is pricey and everything is an extra charge! That said the food is always a good standard and the hygiene is of the highest standard. The chips are very good quality never greasy and their coleslaw is beautiful, they do great fish lovely crisp batter it's well worth a visit.

Very good food, however the service can be very slow and you have to wait quite a while on your order, however that seems to be standard in most places in kilkeel. Don't let that put you off, still worth a visit

While staying on cranfield with our caravan we decided to get fish and chips. Great food is all I can say! The fish was lovely and crisp and the chips where clean and dry. Well done on serving great food!

My children love going here the food is lovely and service is good and the new ice cream is lovely it is the only ice cream my kids finish

Got a take away for £10 for 2 adults and 2 kids.We got chicken goujons,chips,pasties,sausages and curry sauce.Plenty for us and no complaints.

A few months from my last visit and the pit stop has had a makeover new menu boards with a complete new menu. This must have cost an awful lot as prices have increased massively , some of the prices are actually ridiculous. Also gone are the excellent value meal deals which were good for feeding the family. Anyhow it was late and we ordered anyway bear in mind it was after 8pm and not very busy we had to wait a further half hour. A shop that says fast food should come under trading standards for being anything but fast. Burgers were good to be fair but the chips portion was about as miserable as I have ever seen. All in all can't complain about the actual food. But price,wait,and portion size mean I won't be back not good value for money! Lost a customer albeit not a regular but with a price hike like that I won't be suppressed if we aren't the only ones.

Called in here for the first time last week hubby and I. Can honestly say it was the nicest fresh cod and chips we've tasted in a long while. Would definitely recommend it. We will be back sooner rather than later!!! Staff extremely pleasant and friendly too which is always a winner for me.

I've ate fish and chips here regularly over the last 2 years. I drive 25 miles each way. Believe me it's worth it. Chunky cod in ultra light batter. Can't believe anyone giving less than a 5 rating.

Being busy today, I grabbed a late take away dinner from this place. As takeaways go, I found it a little price to be honest. Admittedly I was rather satisfied with the food though. The chips were hot, crispy and non greasy. I also had southern fried chicken breast and curry sauce. Both of which I was quite happy with. The place also has a diner/cafe section which looked cozy and tasteful. Next time I'm in I will give that a try.

Friend called in for a take away today of chicken gousons and Chips. Gousons were just ok but OMG the chips hit the bin, how anyone can eat these is beyond me. 2 chips in and my mouth was coated in a thick grease urgh nope not for me. Definitely won't be back.

Tried here for the first time, nice staff but a long wait. I was told it would be 10mins as I had ordered a 7oz burger but it was 30 mins before the food appeared.I had also ordered scampi, onion rings and chips, all were very nice but the portions were very small.They also supply napkins, plastic forks and sachets of salt and vinegar which is a great idea.

ive been here a few times now, and ive never had bad food yet. its a smal but busy place, but the food is very, very good.you cant go wrong with the haddock... not greasy or bland, the fish is excellently cooked. the chips arent greasy either. ive tried the chicken fillet a couple of times and its very nice too. staff are pleasent and helpfull. all in all i love this place and its takes me well over an hour and a half to drive there. highly recommended. 10/10 from me and my family.

Love the fish & chips here (although have had other foods too) Very clean premises, great food and tends to be very busy. Sit in and take-away available wth a telephone ordering service which can be extremely handy , especially at peak times

Four of us had haddock suppers with mushy peas. All agreed that the fish was really good unfortunately these little tiddlers must have slipped throught the trawlers nets and into the pit stop. Very small. Even if they offered a proper large sized fish at an extra cost you would pay it. Chips also very good but again a small chip in any other chippy. But is it tasty.? Yes.Would we go back? Yes, but order more.

Fish and chips were best ever tried. Tasty and fresh. Will come back before leaving this place. Strongly recommended.

Called in for lunch and enjoyed a very nice plateful of fish, chips and peas. This was freshly made and we didn't have to wait long. Piping hot chips and really crispy battered haddock arrived promptly with mushy peas, and two huge cups of tea. Fish was perfectly cooked and the small portion of chips was plentiful. It's a very unassuming place from the outside but it's well worth calling in and sampling the food.

Well now this place really is a fish & chip nirvana (it also sells pizzas, burgers and so on but I wouldn't be interested). I really cannot recall when I've had better. I opted for the cod and I could have had haddock or scampi. Seriously the fish & chip meal is fantastic. A fish & chip is about £5 take out or sit in. Put it another way; £5 was the Sunday lunch surcharge to get a sirloin steak at Maisons 12 miles away. We had fish & chips in Rick Steins Padstow fish & chip place just a few weeks ago, which cost almost twice the price and not nearly as good a portion of food. The Pit Stop is located in the town centre on a hill and you would easily drive by it without paying much if any attention to it. They have posters on the window advertising their prize winning fish & chips. There's not much parking around it either. Staff are friendly, you can use a credit card and the speed of service is fairly good, but with fish & chips this super good you could forgive a lot!! One bummer though while a bread roll was offered they had no bread and butter, but I forgive them. I will certainly return soonest.

Whilst the meal was hot and the scampi excellent the chips were decidedly greasy and left an unpleasant aftertaste.

Clean and fresh, the fish was good but the chips where superb. Kilkeel is really spoiled for good chip shops nowadays, but this is the best by far.

Fish was very greasy, small portion of chips and can't believe i had to put my own salt and vinegar on just not the same from cheap sachets of salt and vinegar as to the proper vinegar for fish and chips!!!For a fast food restaurant it was very poor and to be fish shop of the year I don't see how it is.

Lets start with the food and get the good bit in first, Fish and chips were well presented well cooked with good portion sizes. Its described as a fast food restaurant 'Pit Stop' 'Fast food' being the operative words. Well it isn't a fast food joint with Pit Stop speed. We called in on a Friday tea time only four people in the queue result we thought !!, now here's the rub I am always slightly suspicious of a chippie which takes your order and then insists you pay before you receive your food. the fact is they do it because they know most people after twenty minutes of waiting would probably walk out and advise them to keep their food. After nearly thirty minutes we were decidedly fed up and no amount of encouragement was going to speed up the process. They were clearly processing telephone orders not a problem but someone should in my opinion be their to serve walk in customers only or at least have the courtesy to tell them of the approximate waiting time so they can decide what to do. To add insult to injury they left out part of our order which wasn't discovered until we returned home. Good food badly organised service long wait.
