We were staying at the hotel for a few nights, so booked in for dinner on the Sunday we arrived, expecting something fairly special from the good reviews on here. The main restaurant dishes didn't really grab us, so we both went for the 'cajun' chicken burger from the bar menu. Food came out very quickly but, sadly, wasn't very impressive. The chips were decent, as was the salad, but the main part of the meal, the burger, was quite dry and didn't taste cajun at all. We're not the types who'd attract the attention of staff to complain about this (unless it was totally inedible), although we would've mentioned the issue if the staff had asked us if everything had been fine. Sadly, no one asked (for the second night in a row, in fact, although different restaurant the previous night), so we just paid and left. It has, however, made us put more effort into finding alternative places to eat, as our anniversary is while we stay here and we hope not to be disappointed on that occasion.

Langoustines bien cuisinées, mais le beurre à l'ail n'a pas trop de saveur. Un gratin de poisson goûteux , ainsi que des desserts raffinés, mais un service bien long... Comme si on nous avait oubliés dans la petite salle...

The food tasted fine enough, but two very small scoops of ice cream for £7.50 seemed a bit on the expensive side. Service could be a wee bit more friendly

The pier house is right on the corner by the harbour , all views are sadly obscured due to construction works on the harbour. However the food we all agreed was amazing . We all had fish is some form or other , accompanied by gin from the distillery opposite. There is a huge car park just opposite too .

On our long awaited annual trip to Harris, 4 of us dinned twice last week at this restaurant and one each occasion were blown away with the quality of cooking and food. The service was first class and all very reasonably priced. Highly recommended and look forward to returning.

We visited this restaurant for dinner. Whilst the food was tasty, it was very overpriced. We live in London so are used to paying more. However, we found the price point exceeded some comparable restaurants we've eaten at in London! The staff were also not overly warm or friendly. We ordered 3 courses and after less than 90 minutes in the restaurant were asked to leave for another booking. We understand that there is a time capacity but we hadn't overstayed at all. The manner in which we were asked to leave wasn't great. The only saving grace for this restaurant is that the food is night and day in comparison to it's neighbouring restaurant at The Harris Hotel where the food is terrible!

Attractive, relaxed, scandi-feel restaurant right on the harbour, whose view is sadly currently ruined by massive harbour reconstruction works (check if they’re finished?). Efficient, friendly service. Excellent smoked haddock chowder and sirloin steak, but disappointing Cranachan with no crunch? Just pleasant fruit and cream really.

We had a lovely meal at the Pierhouse. Very friendly staff, a good open feeling in the restaurant because of all The windows. The food was very good. Service excellent. Nice wine list…short but catered for several pockets. If you are in Tarbert it is well worth booking a table.

We had a nice meal here after a long days cycling. Had the seafood chowder which they made into a main for me and we also had the creme brûlée. Both lovely dishes and staff were pleasant. The interior is really nice with a modern vibe and all the chairs are made of Harris tweed giving it a real Hebridean feel. Would definitely recommend.

Had two nights staying here as part of a biking holiday. Food was modern and imaginative. Fishcake starter excellent as was lobster mac n cheese. Good service. Rooms very stylish if small.

If you like the freshest of fish or quality meats then this is worth the trip. Been going to Harris for many years and never had a belter fish supper.

I enjoyed fantastic Scottish breakfasts - smoked haddock, kippers, porridge etc - & superb, fresh fish at dinner - monk fish, hake, salmon, scallops.... accompanied by great wine, a good selection of single malts & delicious Harris Gin from the nearby distillery.

We ate a couple of times in the Hotel Hebrides, once in this restaurant and once in the bar. Menu is the same except that the specials are not available in the bar. Good quality pub food and filled a need, but not really anything out of the ordinary.

We visited twice for dinner before the new Covid restrictions hit, and also picked up some takeaway breakfast before the ferry. Service was always prompt and very friendly and the standard menu which is generally pub type stuff is competently cooked, plentiful and fine. However the fresh fish on the specials menu was excellent and highly recommended. Breakfast was also very good-a roll stuffed with good quality bacon and black pudding plus decent coffee. All in all a good place to eat in Tarbert.

We had dinner here while staying in Tarbert. I opted for pizza, but was told that there was a problem so chose lasagne instead. This came with chips and garlic bread and salad. The lasagne was extremely rich and stodgy, so it tasted delicious but the portion was just so enormous. I gave half my chips to my husband and still had to leave quite a lot on the plate, and I am someone who can normally eat a lot! It's nice to have plenty of food, but not so nice to feel utterly defeated! Husband ordered chicken pie, but it was actually just a puff pastry lid (not a pie). Also the menu stated chips and peas on the side but it came with new potatoes and veg. He said it was nice though, and he had some of my chips anyway. They also didn't have the drink I ordered. In summary, good food but few issues means an overall 3/5.

Amazing to see the ferry in the middle of town outside the window of restaurant. Food was good. plenty of options, (not sure about parmesan chips though I wont try them again. Not restaurant, it was the flavour).

Tripadvisor says it’s closed but it is most definitely open for business. We popped in here during a long drive from Stornoway to leverburgh and enjoyed cheese toasties and coffee. Happy to support the local businesses that are open.

Extensive and varied menu offering pizzas and many other delicious dishes including many fish dishes . Service was good

We were very pleased that this restaurant was open on a Sunday (rare on the Lewis & Harris). We went here for lunch and evening dinner. The lunch menu was fine, there was a choice of toastie or soup. The soup option didn't appeal to us (spinach & veg), so we opted for toasties. I had the chilli con carnie toastie and my husband had the calzone toastie, both with chips and salad. They were filling and tasty. The even meal was very good! I had the lamb special (pictured), which was lamb fillet and a lamb leg croquette, this came with new potato mash, cabbage and a delicious gravy. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband had the scampi and chips and he enjoyed this as well. I gave this review 4 stars, this is based mainly on the evening meal.

At the time of writing, not much is open in Tarbert so this place is pretty busy. We came in for lunch, when you can just have a snack or a whole meal...one of had the langoustines, the other just soup and a sandwich and both hit the spot (the langoustines especially). They managed to cater to a whole bunch of tastes with a fairly small menu which is a good trick. Service was good considering how busy the place was, the staff were pleasant and hardworking.

We had a lovely dinner at the Pierhouse restaurant. Soup, linguini and steak ciabatta were delicious, big portions and very good value for money, I highly recommend

While staying at the Hotel Hebrides, we dined at the Pierhouse Restaurant. The food was very good, the service was great, and the staff was friendly. I had a fantastic broccoli-bleu cheese soup, butternut squash risotto, and bread and butter pudding. All were great! Highly recommended!

We spent three nights in Harris, ate at three different restaurants and were pleasantly surprised that such a small community has such nice places to eat! We enjoyed our meal at the Pierhouse, The food was excellent and so was the service!

Whilst staying in the Kirklea Island Suites we ate in the Mote Bar each evening and found it very good indeed. It is the local bar which created a good ambience.The food was very good, I liked the fish pie best, and the guys who served us were really nice, bit slap dash but so pleasant.

Good food and a great atmosphere! It was convenient because we were staying at the hotel, but we're happy we ate here.

Good location, opposite car park, nice modern comfortable interior in the bar, efficient and friendly staff, outside seating available in the back garden or on the front terrace, plus a nice large flat screen TV to watch BT Sports on. The bar offers a limited but reasonable range of classic British dishes for lunch such as beef steak or vegetarian curry. HOWEVER, all the food is about twice as much as I’d expect to pay for the quality you receive. It’s OK, but it just doesn’t justify the prices. We tried the fish and chips and fish pie. The pie was fine with a side salad provided, and a reasonable size, but it certainly wasn’t worth £15.95. My family said the same about their dishes. The restaurants in Tarbert all think it’s ok to try this sort of thing with tourists...and I can’t see a logical reason why. I’ll only be back when they either halve the prices or double the quality.

We had a lovely meal in a beautiful restaurant. The young ladies that looked after us were very attentive and the food was very good. The sweet options were a bit disappointing but otherwise good food and good service.

The food was great at Pierhouse Restaurant but the menu was limited. Because of its location we expected more seafood offerings.

Just back from a lovely meal. Haddock gratin for starter was excellent and lamb main course was delicious. Huge portions. Nice service.

We picked the restaurant as it seemed the ‘best’ in the area. I had run in the Harris marathon that day and really wanted to celebrate with a blowout meal. The web site made it look very upmarket and modern.However, my heart sunk when I saw the menu. Only 4 starters and 4 main courses were the choice we had. The mains were basic and unimaginative to say the least. Salmon with seasonal veg or chicken with seasonal veg or pork with seasonal veg plus a veg option. I had the salmon and it was nice enough but it felt like something I would rustle up when I was trying to be healthy.The puddings also lacked imagination so we didn’t bother. It’s such a shame as it’s clear the chef can cook.

After ruling out all the meat and fish main courses I enquired about the butternut squash risotto to discover whether it was vegetarian. It was listed on the menu as coming with parmesan cheese and "crisps". I enquired of the waitress whether the dish was vegetarian and she said "yes". Realising that intelligence is at a premium in this "Hick Central" part of the world, I then specifically asked "Including the parmesan?" and she said "yes" again. Her tone suggested that after I had been told the dish was vegetarian I must be rather stupid to ask the same question specifically about one of its components.

We enjoyed an evening meal and breakfast here. In the evenin* we had a potion of hake, which was deli and beautifully cooked, and a portion of vegetarian curry, also delicious. For breakfast we had smoked haddock and poached egg, again beautifully cooked and generous portion size (very helpful as we were on a cycling holiday). The only reason I have not rated this 5* Is because the service 2as slow, although the staff were lovely.

Second time on Outer Hebrides and again.We try Mote Bar Menu and Takeaway Menu and everything was a ecellent but my favorite was a Harissa Pulled Lewis Lamb and Stornoway Black Pudding and Macleod and Macleod Haggis pizzas.Funny because pizza not my favorite food on holiday.We try many food in restaurant but this is best for us. Very nice people , prices on average and clean resturant.I recommend to visit.

Do not be fooled as we were by the glossy photos and 'sample' menu. The actual menu we were offered on a Saturday night had limited choice. My wife's vegetarian curry was inedible, leaving the impression the chef had spilt his whole jar of curry powder into the dish.

This restaurant has won a number of awards so I can only assume that we were unlucky.

We were really looking forward to our meal at the Powerhouse Restaurant, but unfortunately were very disappointed. There were only 3 choices on the menu for each course and only one local main course dish. Or starters were equally disappointing, I could have presented better in my own kitchen. However the mains we ordered, cod, was well presented and cooked to perfection. Based on the previous reviews we had high expectations of lots of local seafood. It seems that they (along with lots of local businesses) are struggling to attract staff due to lack of staff accommodation. We had planned to eat here both evening during our 2 night stay, but we didn't. We were staying at the hotel and I must say that everything else (apartment, breakfast, staff etc.,) was excellent.

Ate in the mote bar, it was jam packed but the staff soon got us a table. Service was quick and it wasn't long before we had pizza in front of us. The pizza was great and the chocolate brownie sundae finished the meal nicely. Very good!

lovely relaxed pub style place, plenty of choice on the menu. food was tasty, soup came out luke warm and staff quickly replaced it. great location and value for money.

As far as we could establish there are only three places in Tarbert to get an evening meal and the Hebredes Hotel operates two of these - we shared a nice thin based pizza in their bar one night and visited the Pierhouse Restaurant on another. (The Harris Hotel at the edge of town is the other option, which I've also reviewed).

Excellent scallops for starters, generous helping, followed by seabass where the green vegetables were cooked to perfection, not over cooked and to finish the Scottish cheese board with a lovely chutney. Great service by helpful staff in a lovely setting. If staying in Tarbert a great opportunity not to miss.

We had a really enjoyable meal at the Pierhouse. The locally sourced ingredients were well presented and delicious. We shared a fine starter, enjoyed our main courses and shared a fine choice of local cheeses. All this was enhanced by great service from our waitress. A lovely evening

Visited with my wife and we both thought this restaurant was superb.

Had the Full Cooked Breakfast which was £11.95. Option of adding items from the buffet which made it better value. Staff were friendly. It was very quiet that morning with no real atmosphere but enjoyed sitting by the window in the Spring sunshine, watching the world go by. It is conveniently round the corner for the ferry so would be a good place to eat as there are very few other options around.

Cracking venison sausages and mash on a cold dreich day after Xmas. Friendly staff. Would cheerfully visit again.

We were staying locally and thought we'd give this a try, with a mixed experience by the time we'd finished.

Nous avons été remarquablement bien accueillis par la serveuse qui a fait abstraction de notre tenue de randonnée qui dénotait avec la cadre (on n'avait pas prévu d'aller au restaurant et on était trop loin pour aller se changer), mais nous a délicatement précisé que nous avions le choix entre deux cartes : celle du restaurant et celle du bar. Nous avons très bien mangé, une cuisine plutôt raffinée, à laquelle nous ne nous attendions pas dans le coin. Les cuissons étaient justes et les assiettes très généreuses et appétissantes. Un peu de créativité qui fonctionnait pas mal malgré les associations inquiétantes de prime abord ^_^ (soupe du jour à l'orange/carottes/framboises que j'ai tentée par curiosité). Petite aventure pour moi dans les toilettes (propres) où je me suis retrouvée coincée (une dame a gentilment été prévenir un serveur qui a réussi à me libérer avec un passe et a réparé la serrure après s'être excusé plusieurs fois), mais là encore, délicatesse de la service qui a remporté les entrées en disant à mon mari "elle se refait une beauté, je reviens dans un moment" :-) .

With not many places to eat in Tarbert we decided to try the Pierhouse Restaurant.

Return visit here and as good as ever. The Staff were very welcoming. Lovely Restaurant with a nice relaxed feel. A varied Menu and reasonably priced. The Food was amazing and beautifully presented. Advisable to book this place. Would recommend highly to others.

Excellent location in the old town and great parking just over the street. Waiters very knowledgeable and friendly. The steak was fantastic, really tender however, my Scotch Broth had little or no flavour. Wine, Malbec was top drawer and the desert with fresh cream and raspberries delicious.

Had a family meal here which was lovely. The atmosphere was good, mixture of great music in the background and the staff was lovely. Being a non fish eater it was difficult to find something To eat. Not a problem for other people in my group. Food was great but just not enough for the price you paid. Would recommend to other people so keep up the hard work.

Servizio lento, scelta molto ridotta, provato sia a pranzo che a cena. A pranzo fanno principalmente junk food e sconsiglio, per la cena è l’unica soluzione accettabile trovata a Tarbert. Provato il risotto (per mio figlio di un anno) salmon e hake per noi. Pesce buono servizio lentissimo.

Being one of the few places "open" on Sundays, we had the pub-grub ear-marked - and very fine it was too : especially the nachos as a starter - which we shared between 3 (the plateful was big enough) Prices were reasonable.

Sehr gutes Essen. Es werden lokale Produkte verwendet und es ist geschmacklich sensationell gewesen. Ich hatte Hochland-Rinder Carpaccio und einmal Heilbutt.

Food good but expensive. The two waitresses working on Friday evening (27th July) were lovely but rushed off their feet. As a result we felt we had to ask for things rather than being offered for example accompaniments with our main dishes, side plates and knives, dessert menus, etc.

Had the lamb.. Scottish... Unbelievably good. My wife had the Scottish beef.... Tender as. Both had a delicious Argentinian merlot which also hit the spot, very nice food... Restaurant wasn't full... But they took no more reservations.

Simply excellent food. Local seafood freshly cooked. I had a herring starter followed by razor clam on shredded crab on top of halibut with some veggies. Fabulous!

it was kind of a funny show when you enter an empty restaurant on a weekdays late afternoon around 5pm, ask for a table for two...and the guys check for 5 minutes - not without asking colleagues - if there is a table available. You guys can do that in Glasgow maybe...but C'mon, in Tarbert? However, we enjoyed the food, which was quite OK - but way too less for the money they were asking for. The day after we entered the Bar next door...much better value (of course), much more organic atmosphere, and much more fun...

We did not stay at this hotel nor did we eat in the restaurant....BUT we had the best ever fish and chips take away from there. Nicely presented with peas and tartare sauce in sepperate pots, the batter was exceptionally light and the chips were home made and the fish...well talk about tasty, fresh and huge. What was not to like? I would go back there again solely for that meal. The hotel itself is situated in the centre of the beautiful port of Tarbert...convenient for distillery and tweed shop. It is frequented by locals and visitors.

Just rated this as average because it is expensive for what you get. Quality of our meals was very good without being outstanding and service was reasonably efficient and friendly. However there was nothing particularly outstanding.

Review for bar, not restaurant. The food was perfectly good and the service polite and attentive. Only one gripe, why in a country producing some of the best beer in the world can they not serve it. Plenty of gassy, chilled stuff, but no proper beer

We ate here twice during our stay in Harris Food was good quality, plenty of choice and also a served with a smile by friendly accommodating staff

Dropped into the bar on a Sunday to watch the football and have some food. Reasonable selection of drinks, nice bar area, pretty busy as well. We had fish and chips which was good, a few people seemed to have pizzas which looked alright as well. Around £13 for the fish and chips isn't cheap but it was prettying good quality. They do takeaway fish and pizza as well. Wouldn't hesitate to go back.

We enjoyed a very good meal and were well looked after by our attentive waitress. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent. It was a pity that there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant on a Friday night to enjoy the fine food on offer!

Called in for a quick lunch in the bar . Salad and prawns and crayfish were very fresh and lovely dressing on both. Young female staff were attentive and friendly. Think the bar area is getting s bit tired .. stains on seats etc needs a refresh. would recommend the food though .

Main restaurant was closed for the winter but bar was great. Portions huge and staff really friendly. Menu a bit smaller than the one on the website but still plenty of choice (particularly for off season)

We were staying at the Hotel Hebrides, so, we used this restaurant for our dinner requirements. The restaurant is excellent. The staff are attentive and friendly, and the quality of the food was great. Clearly, we focused on the fish on the menu! I can heartily recommend this restaurant.

This review is for the bar rather than the dedicated restaurant which is closed during November at least. Food was served quickly by efficient staff but the quality was really very average. Wouldn't eat there again.

Stopped for dinner and was not disappointed. Good seafood based menu with a mix of prices, good attentive staff. Worth a visit when on Harris, hotel looks good too.

Visited for dinner while on our family holiday. Table booked in advance and were the only table for the first 20mins. Menu is good but not much on it for a picky teenager. Asked waitress if it was possible to get a larger portion of the children's chicken goujons, to which we were told that they can't do that, it's a bit of a hassle. Food order placed minus the chicken goujons, and arrived after a while. Not the quickest service but when it arrived it was lovely and well presented. One problem was that the medium steak was in fact well done. Waitress didn't ask for sauces, nor did we get asked if everything was ok. Couldn't catch the waitresses attention to ask for sauce or mention the stake, as by now here attention had turned to other tables, and we were forgotten. The wine was brought and we were asked if we wanted to pour it ourselves!After the main, the plates were only partially cleared. The plate with the sauce from the mussels sat on the table along with others, and would have stayed there, had we not asked the waitress if she could clear them. As it was, the finger bowl and other plates were still on the table when we left.Dessert came but cutlery didn't. We had to ask for that too. Coffee came and had to ask for brown sugar. The bill was asked for three times.All in all, the lovely food was overshadowed by the very poor service. The restaurant staff were very inexperienced and should not have been left on their own without support; it is not fair on them nor does it reflect well on the hotel. My rating does not reflect that on the whole, a quality meal was had.

Ate at 8:30pm after an exhilarating trip to St.Kilda. We had given our food choices 24 hours earlier. Service was reasonably prompt and quite friendly. Additional requests were met without question. Modern setting. I enjoyed a very good risotto, one of the best ever, and I have eaten many. Strongly recommended.

The food was good. The staff, friendly at first, but then we never saw them again... the service, or lack there of, truly ruined our evening.

Nice surroundings, clean and bright!My criticism lies in the inability of the staff.I had asked whether the soup was gluten free, waitress went to check and came back with 'they don't know the chef has gone home.' So much for the informed staff indicated on the menu.We ordered the fish which was nice but the potato medallions were definitely stale and reheated and the advertised asparagus that came with it, were two stalks, that was it. Disappointing. Almost serving on a shoestring budget charging mainland prices. Don't mind paying if the food was better. But stale potatoes?? That's not a difficult side dish to be honest, nor that costly. The prep was obviously lacking. It almost seemed the deep fried cod was a commercial frozen item like Birds Eye, lacked freshness it seemed. Asked for berry compote with ice cream since it ought to be gluten free, it came with none and no explanation.So sadly I gave this lovely little restaurant a three. It could be so much better! Maybe some healthy competition might serve them well as they would have to improve. On the plus side the staff were considerate and pleasant.

We were there for dinner but the combination of flavours and the quality of the cooking left a lot to be desired. Scallops with a curry sauce, smoked haddock risotto that had more taste of salt than anything else, pavlova with premade sugary meringue and aerosol cream.There are many much better paces in Tarbert to eat. But then, maybe we just caught a bad night. The service wasn't too bad, but it was slow (not the food arrival).

We booked for an evening meal whilst on Harris - this followed excellent dining experiences throughout the Western Isles. As always in this part of the world the staff were helpful and friendly - and the dining environment was excellent.However, our main courses (whilst perfectly competent as far as they went) were simply very ordinary and the meal did not feel at all special. My chicken was rather dry and my wife struggled to find the advertised avocado in her salad.We cancelled the following nights booking.

Two years ago we were met by indifferent service and an unimaginative menu. This year, things were completely different: the service was attentive without being intrusive; and the menu was interesting and the food well presented and tasty. Sundays offer almost no alternative in Tarbet and we'd wondered what we'd get when booking. But, our worries were dispelled.

Quite a limited menu, something to bear in mind if staying for a few days. The "specials" were the same on consecutive days.Service isn't the greatest with young staff who although friendly were prone to many mistakes.Not averse to turning away guests and directing to bar if restaurant has a big party.

Excellent fish cakes followed by local mussels. Good wine and beer. Slightly pricey, which is a shame (especially the scallop main course at £28 was beyond the budget)
