Visited picnic yesterday for breakfast with family over from Scotland. Knew it had changed hands and it was always a good spot for breakfast and coffee. What a change from the Picnic of old, poor menu choice and very expensive for what it is, very poor atmosphere, just not great. We went for the breakfast bagel which at over £9 didn’t even come with a side salad. Food was good but not enough to warrant the price.

Simply put the worst sausage roll I have ever had! Very restricted choice of fare, no menu, a very pale shadow of the Picnic of days gone by. We travelled a good distance to visit as we had great memories but sadly we will not be back...

Sadly scone came with no butter, so had to ask for it. It in turn was traight from fridge and was rock hard so trying to butter a buckle scone proved to be impossivle. But coffee was nice.

I used to come here a fair bit when cycling and was always impressed by the selection of food/treats, friendly staff, the decor, the bustle and the coffee. I thought I would bring a friend on a Sunday run from Lisburn as I knew it had recently changed hands....When I walked in I thought the place had been robbed it was so sparce in all respects by comparison to the Picnic of old. Food selection was poor, with no menu to be seen, and the milk in my latte was burnt. Leaks on the roof outside area too. Sorry, but in this day and age with plenty of nice places to go it will take a lot more effort and investment than this to retain a successful business. Would have been better to delay opening a few more weeks and hit the ground running, as first impressions are everything and I for one won't be back.

Firstly I'd like to welcome the new proprietor's to the village! I called in for a spot of brunch 'to go'. I received a warm welcome and a detailed run down of what was on offer on the menu. I settled for a chicken and pesto (posh) toastie with a side salad and a caramel Americano. I couldn't fault it in the slightest, quantity filling of chicken was generous and the combination was overall very tasty! I can easily say I enjoyed every bloody bite 😋 I'll be back soon 👌

Recently changed hands but went today and was really disappointed in the service, no menus but we were told they had all the normal fillings- had asked for sundried tomatoes, bacon, salmon, and was told aw no we don’t have that! Apparently you have to be able to read minds to order here. Picked a ham and cheese croissant which came cold and zero melt on the cheese! Not impressed at all. The attitude of the girl behind the till was not good. The gent making coffees was better and the coffee is good. But having been open a number of weeks now, I would expect a better level of service- it doesn’t take much to print a temporary menu.

It has been quite a few years since I've visited the Picnic back when Kath and John used to own it I was a regular. I visited twice this week and I am extremely happy to say that Killyleagh finally has a place where you can get delicious coffee brought in from the very well known and highly rated Estd roasters in Belfast who own Estd Cafe in Belfast. Coffee was delicious and served at the temperature it should be served at. I had a beautiful savoury scone which was lovely too. Being a Killyleagh resident my entire life it is great to know that there is now somewhere to go for delicious proper artisan coffee. I wish Steven and Steph all the best on their new venture, they were very welcoming.

Called in for coffee and really impressed by the huge selection of cakes, traybakes and savouries. Would recommend the sausage roll with Ballymaloe relish (everywhere these days) and served with a side salad. Also tried the raspberry and coconut cake (GF) which was lovely too. This and two coffees was £16 which we thought was quite expensive but isn't everywhere? Great atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, and good food, just a little small but that's part of the charm. It was our first visit and will be back when we're next in the area. One star off for the outdoor toilet (if you can find it).

The food was excellent, however the atmosphere between customer and staff was appalling. 5 adults and one kid, when the food came all but the child received their meal- the child ordered toast, we had to ask twice for the toast, to be told it was on its way, by the time it came all adults had finished their breakfast. The communication from the staff was not very apologetic. Not very welcoming and very slow service. Won’t be back due which is a shame.

This came recommended. It surpassed expectation. The tantalising choices, freshly prepared to order, represent great value for money. Sunny Autumnal BreakfastDecided to call in today to see how it was going under the new owners and from moment walked in it was like being back and yet it was so different. A phrase that being used a lot in the current COVID climate is the ‘new normal’ and this is a great way to describe what the new owners have done to it. They have kept the best of the old picnic and have brought their own unique twist to it. And this is even before you get to the food! I had the sourdough breakfast and it was lovely and as said staff were so helpful and friendly even with face covers . They have ensured everyone safety in current conditions and I wish them well in the future. And it will be a place we will call back to and we’ll worth a call. And for any cyclists they they do a wee special for them so if you down that way on your bike do call in! (And sure if you don’t have a bike still call in)

It was a while since I had been to Picnic but I wanted to show off the beautiful village of Killyleagh to a visitor and I remembered having a lovely lunch there before. I wasn't disappointed! The service was really friendly with a great selection that we could see at the deli-counter. I chose the ham & cheese French Toast with beans on the side. It was an inspired choice... I have to admit I expected beans as in the Heinz variety but I should have known better. They cook their own and they were on a totally better level, absolutely delicious and I only wish I could buy them in a tin to keep at home. The French toast was really great too, a perfect match. I think I'll call back this morning and get some to go. My visiting friend is vegetarian and chose the bean rolls which she said were yummy. Since I was last there, Picnic have erected an all-weather cover over their outside dining area, with heaters when needed. It was a nice day when we were there but this is a great idea. Well Done!

The choice here is really great, albeit they are mostly variations on bagel/focaccia/pannini. The portion sizes are excellent. It seems to be heavily focused on local produce which is great too. I have no fault with the food. It is definitely one of the better places i have tried. Cakes are also superb and often very different to the norm as well. I can agree with another commentator that seating is poor. It is cramped in the main shop/cafe, but there is an outside tented area (open air on better days), but which appears quite cold / damp / condensation-y. The outside area is more or less for groups of 3 or above, as the café is ideally suited to couples only.

Called into Picnic no Saturday morning 5th August, had finished business in Killyleagh , and dropped in for some coffeeThe outside of Picnic had 2 no tables available, one of which was occupied, I sat on the spare table, at 10 minutes to eleven. After 15 minutes of non service, the owner arrived, walked in to coffee shop after saying her hellos and good mornings, to various people. The side door was opened and she took a delivery from supplier.Still waiting for someone to take an order..The owner appeared 10 minutes later, with a carryout coffee, and skipped off down the street. At 20 minutes past eleven I got up and left. During the 30 minutes I sat at the outside table nobody offered to take and order or serve me ...Left and drove home to Holywood

Lovely place but disappointed by the lack of sides such as veg and badly made dauphinoise so tiny ! flavour not there ! and portions sizes not great. Overpriced for the underwhelming dining experience got the impression it was a 'cook' not a chef in the kitchen . Wine not great cheap plonk ..prices outrageous !
