Returned to the Dufferin after a few years absence. Scampi was excellent and the bacon chop cooked to perfection. The dessert of orange custard profiteroles was amazing portion size was enough for two. All served by a very pleasant Victoria. Hope to return very soon.

Just as the title says, I've never had a bad experience at the Dufferin. The food is always good and the staff are always friendly. I and a few friends always go for a meal around xmas, and always enjoy ourselves. I was there yesterday evening and had an excellent steak. My only gripe would be that there wasn't a great deal of selection for their starters or desserts, so, unusually for me, I waived the starter and settled for a main.

We stumbled on this 'olde worlde' pub and to say we were impressed is an understatement. My wife had the risotto to start and I had the pate. Both delicious. We then both had the mackerel dish which was one of the specials of the evening. Again delicious! We finished off with a sorbet for herself, and delicious ice-cream with salted caramel sauce for me. All washed down with a reasonably priced bottle of Rioja. The food was really fantastic. This is a very interesting and quirky establishment. With walls covered in everything from old movie adverts to stuffed animals, and even an original extremely old 'dumb waiter' still in situ, there was always something of interest to look at when my wife went to the bathroom. All social distancing and Covid guidelines were followed firmly but without fuss. The staff were very efficient, friendly and helpful - and for a Wednesday evening on 30th September, the place was still pretty busy. Kath, the partner of the owner even took us on a tour of the premises after our meal, and as we had walked from our accommodation which was a 30 minute walk from the premises, Kath even offered us a lift, (which we declined, having purposely chosen to walk with it being a nice dry evening)A really great experience. Being on holiday we found that we loved this area, and our evening in the Dufferin Arms was the icing on the cake. We will return! Many thanks Kath and team!

Excellent COVID measures in place. We eat here quite often and the staff genuinely seemed pleased to see us. Very welcoming and lovely with the children too. The service is always exceptional and consistent. We were quickly shown to our table and our drinks order taken. The children opted for crusty bread to start them for a main chicken goujons with skinny fries. In addition the children’s selection you can have peas, beans, corn on the cob, hoops or veg.I opted for chowder and wheaten bread as a starter followed by a fillet steak main course with a blue cheese sauce, fries, mushroom, tobacco onions and skin on skinny fries. We were asked if we had everything we needed and was everything ok with our food at each course. Always good practice and attention to detail makes a relaxing meal. The children were impressed as their bread was warm. My chowder was piping hot, plenty of fish and a very good sized portion. It came with 4 chunky squares of wheaten bread (which the children loved too) This you can have with or without cream. The staff were really chatty throughout our visit and it is always a lovely dining experience and this visit was no different despite they have been run off their feet. One of my sons was telling his best friend that he would never eat better southern fried chicken goujons than at the Dufferin. Well their meals didn’t disappoint. My son had a clear plate by the end and so did his friend. They are the a very good sized children’s meal too! My fillet steak cooked to perfection and beautifully presented.I didn’t have dessert as I was full but the children opted for rainbow cookie sliders. It is a ball of ice cream sandwiched between 2 cookies, strawberry sauce and mini marshmallows. The children thoroughly enjoyed this and soon it had disappeared.Thank you again to the staff for a very relaxing enjoyable evening. We will be back again very soon for dinner and my children have already asked when we can go again. They once again really enjoyed their dining experience too

After taking part in Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time summer party at Mount Stewart, we drove back to the Dufferin Arms in Killyleagh (where one scene in Philomena was shot) and some really fantastic Irish and bluegrass music from the Saturday afternoon spontaneously assembled jamming musicians (the fiddler was out of this world and it transpired that she was classically trained and taught violin professionally). It was quite a moving, deeply Irish, experience for me (with a Dublin-born father and ancestors going back to Armagh) Fabulous to hear ‘When you were sweet sixteen’ played live and with such gusto, and I requested ‘The last thing on my mind’ and ‘Mr Tambourine Man’. The pub was packed (by 5.30 in the afternoon), loud and steaming. A memorable afternoon.

We enjoyed excellent food and a well stocked bar at this old, and busy pub. I had lamb which was very tender, and my wife and I shared a rhubarb apple crumble served with custard sauce and local vanilla ice cream. The trad music with six or seven musicians singing, playing guitars and a harpist, left no doubt that we were really in Ireland.

The Dufferin Arms is a favourite spot of mine for a tasty bar meal in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff are fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Fortunately I haven't visited in a while and was excited to return recently to some lovely new subtle changes to the bar menu. A favourite of mine is the Fish and Chips, midweek which comes with a glass of house wine for £8.95. The fish is well cooked and comes in 3 sizes which is a brilliant idea. However when I ordered it this time I noticed that they have changed their batter, it now seems to have parsley or some other herb in it. The batter before was deliciously light. Don't get me wrong it did taste ok with the herbs however if I was The Dufferin I would swiftly change back to their original batter. Don't try to fix something that isn't broken. This will not stop me from returning as I love The Dufferin, but I will probably order something else instead. Keep up the good work!

The kids menu was superb as well, I will definitely be back here again in the future.

Tasty food by the sea! Another unforgettable experience at the Dufferin Arms. The wife and i have always came to the Dufferin Arms when visiting Killyleagh. Despite the rowdy table of around 30 people in front of us, which arrived an hour late we were told by staff, we still had our food out and cooked to perfection. having decided on the ham while the wide had the Chowder, it was the perfect decision. Outstanding. We even had time to catch our movie in Eclips Cinema- Downpatrick we thought we would have missed. If you don't want to miss anything in Killyleagh then visit the Dufferin Arms. A homey feeling with delicious food and fantastic waiting staff. - Mark and Angela

The restaurant is not fancy, but the service is friendly and the food ample and tasty. There is a M-F menu that includes wine for under 9 pounds. I had the burger and salad; my husband had the chicken goujons. Both were excellent. The bar has the best Guinness in the area. You can also sit outside.

prebooked a meal for 25 people a month before going for the mealthe entire meal was picked and the Dufferin was advised exactly what everyone was having despite this there was almost a 2 hour delay between the starters and the main courses.I had the boiled ham with Champ and by the time it came it was overcooked and very dry. Others in the group had the chicken in crumb with parmesan cheese some were dried out and hard others were succulent and well cooked.generally the portions were not very large but acceptable if you go when its not busy it might be quite nice the bar looks traditional and they have live music several days a week.maybe we were just unlucky but why chance it?

This pub is popular with locals so book a table or turn up early. We enjoyed a pre-prandial snifter outside before our meal, and were happy with our choices. Good, friendly service if not the most exciting menu.

We had a early evening booking due to our two young girls at 6pm, our table of four adults and two children had plenty of space and was well laid out in there down stairs restaurant. We all shared the starters that worked well and the mains were tasty, pinning were fab and disappeared quickly. The staff are friendly and helpful, and nothing seamed to phase them.Only down side the steak was a touch dry, but overall I would recommend and wouldn't hesitate to go back.Well done , looking forward to going back

Visited Killyleagh in February and stayed a stones throw from the Duff. Many days during our two week visit consisted of waking and meeting at the Duff for a pint as we planned our day, adventuring outward from there, and ending at the Duff for a pint and wonderful food and company.I could rave on and on about the food and drink, which was exceptional. The people however, were unlike anything I'd ever experienced in my travels. From the owner, Austi, to every last one of his staff, made me feel at home and were friendly beyond belief. From the staff, to the many regulars who I had the pleasure to meet many times over, it felt as if I'd only been away from Killyleagh on vacation and was only returning home. I left with many cherished memories and many new friends. The Duff is a gem that I will miss every day until my return. The fact that it is set in the middle of the amazing and beautiful little village of Killyleagh is an added bonus. As I near retirement, my wife and I plan on moving abroad. We'd had our sights set on Prague, but after visiting the Duff and it's wonderful staff, and Killyleagh's amazing people and sights, we are seriously considering Killyleagh as our home base. Cheers friends!

Quine and I ate here when we were trundling around the country. We knew nothing of the place before we crossed the threshold, but it was quiet and oozed quality. Not sure what I mean by that, but we felt comfortable. We had lunch and a beer. It was good. We went home and vowed to return. We did return, but it was Easter Sunday, and it was closed. We still have cultural issues to get our head around in NI. That will not stop us going back, but we will check beforehand!!!!

I used to be a regular at the Dufferin Arms, but had not been there for almost 4 years as I now live abroad. This is by far the best bar in the area, and is always my first stop on my visits home. My friend and i ate there almost every day during our 2 week stay, and I can honestly say the food was superb, and the prices were very reasonable. My personal favourite is the fish and chips which has a small, medium or large option. If you order the large, be sure you are hungry! we did not have one bad experience the whole time. It was good to see the Saturday music session was still going strong, and the craic was excellent. Our visit coincided with a Valentine's banquet which was fully booked out, but after speaking with the owner, tables were rearranged, and they managed to fit us in. The food on offer was out of this world. Many choices of main course, all very well cooked and presented, and so many mouth watering desserts to choose from that we just had to try them all. We both ate so much that getting a drink down afterwards was very difficult. There was a live band playing who were excellent, and all in all it was a very pleasant evening of food and entertainment. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful throughout our stay as they always are. This place has always had its fair share of local characters , and the banter in the bar is always entertaining. Strangers are always made welcome, and it wont be long before someone strikes up a conversation with you. If you visiting the area, a visit to the Duferin Arms is a must! I will be back soon.

I have recently visited the dufferin Arms in the past and have done very recently. I was greeted by a very polite fellow who sat me and my wife at our table. After being sat down, we had starters, mains and deserts. My soup for starter was out of this world. The beef was unbelievable and as usual the chocolate cake was amazing. I distinctly remember expressing my compliments to the chef and I was more than happy to leave a tip. Everything was going so well until I visited the bar. I believe the fellow shouting, ranting and getting on was the owner. I witnessed him provoke and harass a young female member of staff... Something about "not doing enough" in her job. When I go to a restaurant I don't expect domestics at the bar. I then asked the girl if she was okay and she replied "it's just the usual with him". If I were him I'd stay in the office if I wanted my business to head into the future. So to sum up: come to this restaurant for amazing food and outstanding service (even if it's busy... The girl was doing her best) but make sure you sneak past the REAL horrible boss! You might get a scolding for leaving your plate in the wrong place!

Had lunch here last Friday. Started off ok, waiter quite pleasant, menus and wine list brought quickly. But it all went downhill fast!! Two girls arrived and sat between us and the fire. It was an awful day, by the way, rained non-stop. One girl refused to take her coat off, so the waiter shut the door on the fire, without asking anyone else. Our food arrived. Hubby had the soup and sandwich combo, a freshly made hand-carved ham, cheese and salad sandwich, with a mug of soup, both pronounced delicious. I had moules/frites, fab golden, crispy chips and mussels in the most delicious cream garlic sauce, served with warm baguette. After we were served the waiter spent the rest of the time discussing with the girls where they were going on Saturday night. At one stage he said he had to go, as he'd heard the bell. Too late, as the chef had already brought the food up from the kitchen, at least she was keen her customers would have a good experience. I wished to compliment the chef on the mussels, no empty shells, a thick sauce that coated the seafood, probably the best I've ever tasted, but I didn't get the chance. He cleared the table with his back to me, still yakking to his mates. A most unrelaxing lunch, and he had no idea!!! Perhaps some training would help?? But the food was excellent.

This is my local pub, but no longer. They support Fox Hunting. In 2024 who on earth still goes out killing wildlife for fun? I think it’s important people are aware who they give their money to.
