Worst customer service in Manchester! I let my child try to order himself and had to take a phone call! He came back crying!! And staff yelled at me

I previously reviewed this establishment and gave it 2 stars due to the poor service and lacklustre sandwich I received. I have today updated my review to 1 star. When paying £2.05 for 2 pieces of toast!!!!!!! I do not expect to receive cheap bread, the kind you can pick up at asda for 50p a loaf. Coffee tasted alrightish but a) has never seen a cappuccino, it’s just a milky coffee and b) was so hot it burnt my mouth and b) burnt the beans. I only gave it a 2nd chance as I fancied a slice of toast for breakfast but shan’t be doing so again.

Picked up this Cheese and onion pasty on my dinner today to get back to work to open up it up to find its a meat pasty... And not cheese onion ... Clearly bin packaged wrong and ruined my lunch!

When visiting the Hardman Street branch with my girlfriend earlier today for an attempted lunch, the service was shockingly awful. We ordered a hot sandwich meal deal - the sandwich being £6.49 and an extra £2.50 for the meal deal addition. After initially ordering the sandwich and waiting 5 minutes, it was shouted to us that actually they had ran out now and couldn’t make what we paid for, so offered an alternative. The alternative option chosen was then also revealed recently out of stock. After finally deciding on a 3rd option and waiting for nearly 20 minutes, we approached them and asked where it was, to which they said “oh we forgot to put it through”. We were having a tough day already and only had 25 minutes for lunch before a 2.5 hour meeting so this was the only chance to eat something. My partner left upset, with this making an already hard day much worse, especially after them only refunding the sandwich and refusing to refund the £2.50 meal deal because it had already been received. The fact that £2.50 wasn’t even considered adequate compensation for the mistake they’d made, after awful service and incompetency, is absolutely shocking and I would not recommend this store to anybody.

Hello. I hope you are well. I never complain about my food but what I witnessed yesterday is something worthy of a complaint! I went to Philpotts with work colleagues for lunch and I saw one of your staff members grabbing tuna with her hands, then grabbing lettuce, then grabbing cheese, contaminating all the food with fish, at least she has gloves on THEN I got a lady who made my salad doing the same thing this time not even wearing gloves… What would of happened if someone was allergic to fish and your staff or just touching all the food like that? Absolutely disgusting and would not recommend your store!

Very poor customer service, the male manager was very rude even though the cashier woman was very polite. I ordered my hot drink and they refused to change it to a meal deal. Wouldn’t recommend anyone to come here. Manager had no manners and sounded very condescending. Would give it a lower than 1 star rating if I could.

Some great sandwiches and hot lunches on offer and wait times once you have ordered you're food can be quite long in comparison to how busy they are. Me and my colleagues had the Yorky Christmas Wrap last time, was lovely but a tad dry. Suggestion for Philpotts: Add a tub of gravy to dip your Yorky Wrap in, I would happily pay an additional charge for this...this would take it to the next level.

Amazing food at great prices , service is pretty friendly, however the queuing system is very chaotic and lacks organisation which makes lunch times a bit stressful as you don't know where to queue. The atmosphere isn't really there , it's more quick eat and go , or more takeaway focused.

This has got to be the WORST sandwich shop and I cannot believe they're still open. Online orders to collect - timings of collection completely ignored, order wrong. Manager a completely disorganised idiot which then carries through to staff. We always order from the King Street shop. Will never make the mistake of using here again. Useless.

Never been before. People queuing in different places. I queued where a paper sign read “queue here to pay or order hot food” waited 5 minutes nobody said anything so I left. Very poor

I ordered a breakfast sandwich. Was waiting ages then people behind me in the queue started getting their orders before me and then I got asked "did you order?" to which I replied "yes" (and said what I ordered) then she said "oh I've just given yours to someone else.." So I waited again for my order to be made, this is a good 20 minutes now I've been in the shop. Finally I get my order and walk out with it back to where I'm working, start tucking into my sandwich and find A BLONDE HAIR IN THE SANDWICH! I would of gone back with it but id had enough of the stress of the place at this point so just removed the hair and got it eaten (THE SANDWICH NOT THE HAIR!) I'd of left one star but Phil potts breakfast sandwiches do actually taste OK. Got to give them the benefit of the doubt though as it is tricky business this sandwich/salad shop business of; taking an order, passing it to the kitchen staff, making it, giving it to the customer...

As a connoisseur of Philpotts it's always a pleasure to visit and sample their delightful lunchtime sandwiches. A little more expensive than the nearby Portland Street branch but being located in the financial heart of Manchester, this is to be expected and still very competitive for the area.

Our sandwiches were cold. Only walked over the pathway to the hotel. Cold bacon and cold sausages. Not good

They clearly don’t have enough staff. One person serving (very slowly) at peak lunch time. Gave up on the que there with friends several times over the last couple of weeks. Such a shame as was once a lovely place to get breakfast/lunch.

I've been a regular customer of Philpotts for a number of years as its local to my office and before COVID-19 the people on the counter were great and never got an order wrong. Unfortunately since the new staff have been employed at Philpotts, they must get 1 out of 3 orders incorrect and I order the same thing pretty much on a weekly basis (covid weight gain still in progress). How hard is it to get sausage, hash brown on brown toast right? They are also extremely rude and if it wasn't so close to the office I wouldn't return. Philpotts are like an abusive ex, you keep going back for more trying to remember the good times but only ever get disappointment.

The staff are lovely and the place is clean, but my sandwich went straight in the bin. The bacon was so undercooked, it may as well have been straight from the packet. I have genuinely never seen more fat on a sandwich in all of my days. Either cook your bacon or take it off your menu. That butty was a disgrace.

Not great. Very nice staff and a clean environment. The food is just average. I got a sandwich today and the bread buns are pretty small and basic, the chicken filling had no flavour, and the salad options were a bit drab. I paid £4.25. A good sandwich shop should have the biggest bread buns around, with a good choice of fillings that will burst out of the bun. It shouldn't charge nearly £1 more than a supermarket meal deal for average bread, filling and salad. I'll go to Boots and get a nice enough wrap, a bottle of fruit juice and a chocolate bar for £3.39.

Very poor service from staff everytime I go in. Its like the staff dont want to make you breakfast. Make you feel like you are asking for something ridiculous/ awkward to make, very rude. Asif they are looking for an excuse not to make you a bacon sandwich! Crazy. Also ordered a full english and recieved 2 slices of toast. Its a Shame as the food is decent when you do get served.

Food was nice but seemed more disorganised than the one at Spring Gardens, had to queue for a long time and it’s not really clear what all the options are. If you don’t know what you want immediately staff are not particularly helpful

Food tasty, but queuing system is far too unnecessarily complicated. Gets busy at lunchtime

Hardly any meat in the chilli, just an abundance of kidney beans. Rice was hard accompanied by a thin and watery sauce. Price has increased and containers have changed so less for your money. Disappointing as I used to enjoy this lunch.

Great sandwich shop, just needs to sort out recycling, and all single-use plastic bottles.

Came in for breakfast. Was met by an incredibly rude guy who seemed to have anger issues. Gave up trying to order and left. What a way to run a business.

What can I say about my breakfast. The eggs were brilliant, freshly cooked and very hot. The toast was also fresh and hot. TheThe and of the breakfast was the worse breakfast I gave had the displeasure of eating. The mushrooms were barely warm, the bacon, sausages and the baked beans were warm but not very warm. Any pleasure in eating in was spoilt by having to use plastic cutlery. This is all a shame as it was good value for money and the coffee was good.

Nice place to grab lunch. Good selection of salads, baked potatoes, and sandwiches. Food is always good, and service pretty quick even though it's very popular.

Fridge items too cold. No flavour. Pasta had too much mayo. Yuck. Sandwiches are bog standard. No hot food ready at 1130

Food quality is good prices a touch expensive. Would be great if they did more veggie options, meats, tofu etc.

If you want bacon or sasauge dont go here on fridays last four out of five they have not had any bacon last two fridays they have had no bacon or sausages told you have to waite an hour for any this is either bad planning or they only bother with outside orders and dont cater for the walk in customers the members of staff seem to find this funny

Great sandwiches bur SO SLOW. Guys why do customers have to queue again to pay? Unnecessary in the extreme.

Food brilliant but service slow

Quality food, good potions. Service poor - the lady usually on the till gets my orders wrong most of the time and isn't exactly pleasant.
