Penrhyn Bar & Grill in Gwynedd

Went as it was the closest place to where I was staying and expected just pub grub. Once in, you see the massive specials board and menu and literally have so many options! I have never had ramen in a pub before, and it was gorgeous! Staff are very nice and helpful and the whole place has a good atmosphere. If I go back to the area, I will have to return.

Delicious meal with the family last night, lamb steaks were cooked to perfection, and the garlic butter chips were heaven. Lovely friendly atmosphere and dogs welcome. Will definitely be re visiting

I have been using this pub for 9 years when visiting family who live in the village. We went for lunchtime drinks and my son was feeling hungry and asked for a bowl of chips, which I ordered. When they arrived the we felt the portion looked less than generous!!? but accepted it as maybe portion control had changed? A short while later another customer had a bowl of chips which were piled in the same size bowl ours had arrived in. When I questioned the bar staff about the anomaly she was adamant that there would have been no difference and there was nothing that could be done!!! I felt the attitude was rather dismissive and as a result we were put off the idea of ordering meals, as was the plan, and left after finishing our current drinks. I will think twice before ordering food there in the future when visiting Fairbourne.

Came for a family meal and all enjoyed what we had. Curry was lovely and came with every side you could think of, Pies, burgers and lasagne all tasty. Kids were happy with their meals and ice creams Well presented food and nice atmosphere

We visited for our tea and had great time. Very good selection of beers, massive food menu including lots on the specials board. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to return!

Lovely place great spot near the beach , food is hit and miss here , depends on who is cooking ... we have been a few times naw and the steaks are lovely . The meal we had a few weeks ago wasn't great ... and it cost around £70 . The minted lamb with Yorkshire pudding was terrible 3 bits of lamb in a Yorkshire pudding with a blob of mash and what looked like steamed veg from a bag that you put in the microwave.... no gravy with it . Didn't say anything because it is a nice place just disappointed with that meal ,and not worth the money . Very pricey for what you got !! Lovely cider here 😋

Ended our family holiday here tonight for a meal out. Called earlier on the day to book, was told we didn't need to. Now we know why. Not busy at all. No good evening, hello welcome nothing. Tables sticky, not very clean. Walking past kitchen to go toilet, staff sitting on work surfaces etc, well I think they were staff. As everyone seemed to be wearing own clothes, no uniform. Food was good, but could be so much more. 5 young teenager looking staff behind bar, and at least 4/5 of the same in the kitchen. Why so many staff I'm not sure but the place could be amazing.

We visited today for lunch after a nice walk with our dog. The staff weren’t particularly welcoming, no smiley hello, one was just stood behind the bar looking at us whilst the other was on her phone. We ordered a couple of drinks and were impressed with the bar prices. We then ordered a cheese & bacon burger, a steak & ale pie and a side order of cheesy garlic bread. The food came out really quickly and was honestly faultless, really well cooked food. There was a nice atmosphere and the prices are great. I would recommend.

Great meal of Rump steak and all the trimmings, i had mine with chips and my wife had hers with a baked potato she said it was the best potato she had eaten in quite a while. All was cooked to perfection and was nice and hot. The chap behind the bar was very friendly although the waitress had a face like a bull dog chewing a wasp,she looked like she did not really want to be there in fact she did not utter a single word just plopped the plates on the table and scooted away, must of been having a bad day. All in all excellent.

Lovely pub grub, delicious and hot, nice big portions. Just what we needed on a rainy night in Fairbourne (not the best summer this year Is it!) The beer was good, service quick and cheerful. We’re going again tomorrow!! Thanks Fairbourne grill.

Poor food for the price. Steak ordered medium seemed like it was braised and then finished on the grill. Was well done and chewy. No seasoning. Minted lamb burger tasted of nothing but mint. Would have expected this if prices were lower but it want cheap. Probably a nice place for a pint and a side of chips but not for a meal.

Spent time here relaxing in the evenings enjoying a drink and also had meals too. The food tasted great and good portion sizes too.the staff were friendly and made us feel really welcomed. The prices were reasonable too. Wish we had a place like this at home , but will be back soon.

Popped in for a couple rounds on family holiday. We were on hunt for some sausages for a fussy eater in family for back at holiday home from the shops. Was really welcoming and sold me two frozen sausages! No questions asked LOL. Very warm and welcoming feeling and nice atmosphere. Great place for a drink. Food looked good. Really friendly place. Great choice of local guns and Purple Mousse on draft. There is an extensive menu. My sweet chilli beef was lovely. The belly pork was equally good. Can’t recommend this place enough. Family friendly too.

Drove into Fairbourne to see if we could grab some lunch, so glad we did as we came across this gem, the bar staff were friendly and helpful and the food was fantastic, My husband had the sticky chilli beef and I had the boneless pork belly, the portions were very generous and they were cooked beautifully, the menu had a good selection of choices and there were also a good selection on the specials board, we will definitely be back ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Absolutely terrifying member of staff, my children had a real scare. On arrival, my husband went to the bar to order drinks and food. Because my children were starving, I gave them a sandwich. A male member of staff came rushing and started shouting at us that this is an eating place and we were not allowed to eat there. I explained calmly that I totally understand the rules and that my husband was ordering food right that moment, but my children are too young to understand that. He didn't care and continued shouting to "go eat on the fance, mate, I don't care!". My children started shaking and crying, giving the sandwich back and that broke my heart. That's why, when my husband came back with the drinks, we just place them on the table and left, for the wellbeing of my children. It's worth mentioning that the food waiting time was over an hour. However, we were more than happy to order food and wait for it as much time as it was required, but that didn't matter for that member of staff. I know my comment won't change much, but I felt the need to share. It's common sense not to bring food to an eating place, I know, but that's not the way you talk to someone, so aggressive and rude, especially not around children.

My wife had rib eye steak which was more fatty than expected. The meat didn't taste too good but maybe that was our fault for ordering it. In the end, we had a £20 meal replaced by jacket potato. When we asked for a refund of difference this was refused. I was disappointed with attitude of the staff (local butcher was called to defend the steak). I was not expecting a full refund of difference but maybe a free coffee or desert would have acted as some form of acknowledgement of our dissatisfaction. My southern fried chicken was lovely.

Called in today after walking our dog,Just for a pint to start with but then decided to have a couple of baguettes. What a great decision,one steak baguette and a coronation chicken. Although we didn’t eat here, only stopped off for a drink. I just wanted to say what a well thought our system they had in place for covid. Food that cane out looked good too.

Went there with a small group and some of us had steaks - I chose the 14 to 16 oz rump steak - cooked medium. When it arrived, I was amazed that such a "massive" steak only covered about 25% of the area of the average sized plate - I even commented to the waitress and she confirmed that it was the rump steak. Even allowing for some weight loss due to cooking there is no way that this was ever anywhere near 14 oz, let alone 16oz ! A couple of others in the group also commented that they thought their steaks were not of exactly generous proportions. Over-priced for what you actually get - reasonably cooked but I will avoid this place in future.

Five hungry travellers found a place to eat so near the sea you can hear it smell it and with a bit of effort you can jump into it its that close but they serve cod that has never been anywhere near the sea... frozen then reheated in claggy horrid batter. I know the price of fish is not cheap but they even charge prices which coul lead to think its good quality ..avoid if you can, or order something other than the fish.

I tend to normally have a ribeye or sirloin but on recommendation I tried one of their fillets a couple weeks ago. I was so impressed I went back last night & ordered two! Meal sizes are always good here as are their ales & even if I am a local, I’m objective in saying the staff (from the kitchen, to waiting on, bar & management) are always friendly & helpful. This place is a very busy eatery with holidaymakers in the summer & both a locals & sports bar the rest of the year...well done team Penrhyn!

Visited with family back in July and had food which was great, a bit over priced, staff on the bar were polite but when go to use sauce that was the packet ones on the table they were out of date so left them alone, raised issue with stay and got told it a display date but on food products it's a best before date, since leaving review on Google the owner has said not to go again and also made threats and other remarks, will be raisins other safety issues with other authorities.

Some tables and sheltered picnic tables outside plus bar and dining area inside. Tea came in a pot and a reasonable coffee menu too. Well behaved dogs welcome inside.

Decided to try this bar/grill while we were staying in Fairbourne. We had noticed it seemed quite busy (usually a good sign) so went for an early evening family meal. Very pleased we did. Good service, good menu, good food and all at reasonable prices. If we were local I think we would probably be regular visitors.

Visiting this little beach bar & grill is fast becoming one of our favourite things to do when the holiday in Barmouth. The steak and onion baguettes are WELL WORTH the 4 mile walk over Barmouth bridge into the sleepy little seaside village of Fairbourne. Staff are really friendly, the bar has a lovely relaxed feel to it and the outdoor area is large and family friendly. Perfect place to chill in the sunshine with an ice cold beer and watch the world / Fairbourne railway go by. Easy 5 stars this place

After reading previous reviews we decided to give this bar a whirl for a snack and a drink.excellent coffee and sandwiches and jackets were delicious.shame we arrived too early for the dinner menu it sounded lovely. We came with pooch in tow and he was made to feel very welcome.give this place a go if your in the area it’s a hidden gem!

The Penrhyn has a good menu and even if it is busy you get served quickly.All meals can be had as a take away and the prices are very reasonable.

Dropped in today and sampled the lunch menu: baguettes and sandwiches. The food was tasty and portion size reasonable. I'd like the woman at the bar to think about what 'excellent service' might look like rather than barely adequate, and what 'hospitality' means - or could do with a little effort.

We often visit the Bar and Grill for drinks and food and can never fault. The Staff and owner are always polite and friendly. The drinks and food are not over priced. The food great Five out of Five We will be back

We found this pub by chance after walking from Barmouth, the staff were friendly and welcomed our dogs. It was a vernier menu but we opted for a coronation chicken sandwich and coronation chicken jacket potato. The food was fresh, well presented and delicious

Called in on arrival in Fairbourne as we were starving. We both ordered fish & chips with the expectancy being a coastal pub a great experience. Fish was coley tasteless, chips over cooked very disappointing. Could not be bothered complaining on this occasion just will do it with my feet. Good pint of Doombar was a relief.

We came here cos we needed to escape the rotten weather. We couldn’t believe this little remote place sold peroni on draught. We love the stuff and enjoy reviewing it on our peroni tasters of Manchester Facebook page ! The price and quality of the peroni here is excellent

Very welcoming and cosy on a miserable Sunday, weather wise. Choice was a selection of Sunday roasts for main course, only a choice of 2 soup choices for starters and as my husband and another member of our group did not like soup they had to do without a starter. The main course of a choice of roasts was excellent and very tasty. The puddings got mixed reviews from our table. The staff were friendly and overall we did enjoy ourselves and would come back again.

I took my family for dinner and to get out of the cold. I wasn't expecting much from a place out of season in a small seaside town/village. We were very surprised that on the inside was not only a warm temperature, but a warm welcome too.

Excellent food, well looked after beer, nice outside area, games room and arcade attached next door, directly across from the beach and all sports shown on multiple TVs, I could spend hours here, great little place.

With a car park opposite, The Mawddach walking or cycling route direct to the door there is no reason not to visit either summer or winter. Always a warm welcome from the young staff and the food is as it says on the menu and what you would expect. A visit to the amusement arcade adjoining is a must to keep the little ones amused

My husband and I visited here with our four- year-old. We sat outside with the owner of the local campsite where we were staying and one of his employees. Our four-year- old realised quite late he needed the lavatory so I ran inside with him to use the facilities. He soiled himself unfortunately and while I was cleaning him up in a cubicle, a lady whose name I don’t know, but for the sake of this I’ll call her Jane, and told me, “It’s all down the bar; they’ve had to clean it up.” However, she at least had the decency to ask if our child was sick, which could very easily have been the reason for what happened. When Jane left, I started asking her if she could fetch my husband so he could bring my bag, but she can’t have heard me as she went back into the pub and sat down. I didn’t know what else to do so I carried on. According to the landlord in a now- deleted Facebook post, “Everyone knew what was happening.” In that case, one of them should have been a good citizen and gone to fetch my husband, not that I ever expect anyone to help me. The only things I washed in the basin were my hands and those of our child and used the soap, which I probably shouldn’t have as he has eczema so has to be careful what goes on his skin but I wanted to make sure he was clean. I also made sure the lavatory itself and surrounding area was clean, as having worked in child care and catering I am aware of the principles of cross- contamination and the need for cleanliness and hygiene, contrary to another accusation that was made on Facebook by someone who knows the landlord and has again been deleted. I held our child’s soiled garments in front of him when we emerged from the lavatory to protect him as we made our way back outside. This can be substantiated by the afore mentioned campsite owner who gave me a dog back in which to put the clothes as it’s bigger than a nappy sack. I even made a point of telling Jane I wasn’t going to wash his clothes in the basin. When we left the facilities to re- enter the pub, the landlord was standing waiting for me with a stern look and arms folded. I didn’t even see him until I heard, “We’ve just had to clean that up, it was all down the bar. It’s disgusting.” I said, “I’m sorry, it was an accident. I can’t control his bowel movements.” Still with a stern look and same stance he said, “ People have to eat in here, it’s not fair.” I sad, “Send me the bill. Tell me how much it is and I’ll pay.” He then told me to go out of another door instead of the one through which I entered. My husband, the two men we were with or myself ever saw any fecese anywhere, so we don’t know what constitutes, “All down the bar.” The whole place is only slightly bigger than a micro pub- with a smaller room to one side containing a pool table- so it only takes one or two items to drop on the floor to make the place look untidy. The first we heard of any being outside is when we read it online. Saying it was outside and all around the bar area sounds like it was done by an elephant and not a recently turned four- year- old human. Also, the landlord spoke to me in front of a room full of customers, which was unprofessional. Anyway, I went outside with our child and told my husband what had happened. Yes I was upset, the only reason being the way the landlord spoke to me- not just his body language, stern look and it happening in front of everyone, but also his beastly tone of voice. I was in tears by this point and our child got upset as a result. We managed to change him and we left. Jane was outside, asked if I was alright and gave me a hug. My husband went back to speak to the landlord to ask why he had spoken to me in such a way; I doubt he shouted or used profanities due to knowing as well as I do that swearing, name calling, making personal attacks and shouting are not the ways to speak to somebody. The landlord told him we were, “Not welcome” and, “Get out or I’ll kill you.” People say, “I could kill them” as a throw away comment everyday but what he said is not a throw away comment. Barring us would be understandable if I’d allowed our child to defecate on the floor deliberately, but this was an accident. Everything had been fine until then, so this is like a switch being flicked. It’s almost as though he was looking for an excuse to get rid of us. I spent the whole night sitting in our caravan thinking he was going to turn up and felt the same way the next day. Thankfully that was our last day, as I couldn’t have spent the week feeling someone was going to pay us a visit. It was decided we wouldn’t feel comfortable in Fairbourne again and everyone knows each other so it’s possible- but not definite- that what happened has been twisted, so we sold our caravan. It was kept on the campsite and the new owner took it away, so the landlord’s behaviour has now cost every business in Fairbourne some custom. It’s also not just Fairbourne, but surrounding areas. The police have spoken to the landlord about his death threat towards my husband and can only imagine what was said. Like all areas of child development, potty training is not a race and our child has improved since then. Everything said is true, there is no reason to lie. Our house, car and bills are paid so not after any form of compensation nor is this a vendetta. Also, whtat’s disgusting is the two who each used the cubicle beside ours and left without washing their hands. I have said exactly what happened.

We arrived as a group of 11 walkers and ordered coffees. We asked if we could eat our picnic with the coffee on the outside tables which were completely empty. The owner was very aggressive- although the bar staff were pleasant. I totally understand not allowing this in a busy restaurant but when there are no customers it seems a little short sighted.
