We often enter hotel restaurants with a bit of hesitation. Not so with Penny Squares, the brilliant new restaurant in the recently opened Canopy Hilton in East London. We were alerted to this venue when booking a two night stay at the hotel. We stumbled on glowing reviews and were excited to dine there. We were not a bit disappointed!! We begin with the gracious host, Andrea Otto. He is warm, knowledgeable and welcoming. Our first night we were just off a long train journey and he recommended what are termed "Little Crockery" plates. I enjoyed the Karkade Cured Salmon, served in a unique and imaginative presentation style. My wife had the Black Charcoal Beef Fillet, so tender and perfectly prepared no need for a knife. We finished the meal with a fabulous desert, Warm Vanilla Bird's Nest Pastry, again presented with imagination! Our second night, well rested, we went for a full dining experience. As we struggled to decide on which of the three dips to begin our meal, Andrea stepped in and arranged a nice portion of each Delightful! We both selected the signature dish, Crusted Rack of Lamb. It was grand, perfectly cooked and again presented in an attractive fashion with accompanying pea mash, minted courgettes and a wonderful lamb sauce. We finished with Mango Chocolate Mouse, recommended by our attentive server (both evenings by request), Matyas. There is a very fine wine list with a grand selection at affordable prices. We went with the Chemin de la Serre Marsanne Viognier, a wonderful choice at 30 pounds. This is a destination restaurant conveniently located a few hundred feet from Aldgate Underground, 20 minutes from Central London. Make this your next dinner reservation. You will not be disappointed!

Definitely one of the best spots for food in London! As soon as you walk in the designs are lovely. Food service was great and super delicious, would definitely recommend.

Love this restaurant from top to bottom. The food was delicious and so was the presentation of the dishes. The service was outstanding from the moment you step a foot in the building til the moment you leave. The decoration of the venue is very stylish, I am sure someone put a lot of thinking into it. Overall it was a great dining experience that I definitely recommend and that will have me back again soon.

Had a lovely evening meal with my partner, the food was presented to a very high standard and certainly didn’t disappoint on the taste front either! The staff are highly attentive and certainly know the menu well enough to talk you through each of the dishes. Will definitely return to try some of the other dishes which looked equally as good judging by the tables around us! 😊

The dinner at this restaurant was excellent in every way. The was superb and reasonably priced. The ambiance was fine. The service by Matteus and Andrea was terrific.
