Good choice of beer ,though blooming expensive .Always easy to get served and usually pleasant staff. Now here’s the big but ,those gents toilets are a bloody health hazard they need completely ripping out back to bare walls and rebuilding,The stench of stale urine is overpowering.

Cappuccinos really good and well kept beer however the bar server (tall, dark short hair) Saturday 5th Sept. so unfriendly. He was a bit like ' yeah, whatever' borderline rude. I think some bars can get a little comfy. Pave is in desperate need of a refurb and maybe needs a rethink. Customers pay your wages in essence.

Haven’t been here for quite a few years now, but glad we came. We came on Saturday lunch, so found a nice table. I got the Pave burger which was delicious and good value for money. My wife got the Halloumi burger which like mine came with delicious coleslaw and chips, she thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly. Will definitely come here again. They also do Leffe beer, an added bonus.

I have been in Pave on no more than 4 nights out over a few years and always come away thinking the outside is better than the inside, for the rear external beer garden is a very relaxing place to be, as is the front seating area adjacent to the road, but the inside is invariably reminiscent of shabby chic gone to neglected tat. I guess this is a "cash cow" at this point in its evolution? There is a huge range of well known specialist beers and lagers, but you are going to be paying top money to drink them! £6.50 for half of draft Holsten lager and a medium (small) glass of pretty grim white wine is a bit rich for the area. The decline has been gradual but this place is due a "refresh".

Been coming to Pave a lot recently, with my partner, and we have been looked after famously on every occasion. Excellent and superb bar staff, great food (Pave have a superb chef) and the atmosphere of the place is welcoming and clientèle mixed diverse and friendly. A lovely place to be and all visitors should be aware of the specials board. Unlike other establishments it always has new meals and ideas to tempt and offer. A genuine thank you to all at Pave.

I originally posted this review on my blog. If you liked it, why don't you visit the blog. When Pave first opened, it was a go-to place on a night out on Princes Avenue. It had a good selection of drinks that weren't massively expensive.I hadn't been in for a few years until this visit and was really taken aback by how badly it needs some TLC.The sofas and other soft furnishings are really showing their age. The sofas have rips in them. Now even I have heard of shabby chic but this was just a hole in the sofa. The decor felt much more like run down boozer than cafe bar.In terms of the drinks, there is still a wide ranging offer, but in terms of beers, Pave seems to be looking for a lot of ales which other bars don't carry. Nothing wrong with that, but don't just stock your bar with ales that are 6.5% alcohol plus. There was very little choice if you wanted something with a little less kick, and what they did have was fairly acidic and not that pleasant. It was a Saturday night and the staff were busy, and were as attentive as they could be.All in all though, this was not an experience I really want to repeat anytime soon

I had the halloumi kebab which was tasty and was a good portion for a low price. Only downside was that the chips were very salty and I would say let people choose to put lots of salt on their chips if they want it, but I found them more salty than McDonald’s chips! My parents had the mushroom bourguignon which was another big portion and tasty.Live music was really great and created a fun atmosphere. They must be making a killing because it was packed, so maybe they could improve the decor/upgrade the furniture a bit, because first impressions when walking in aren’t great (if the music isn’t on).Would recommend this place and would go back in future :)

Called in for a pint after eating at the excellent Persian close by. The staff were great, patient, friendly and knowledgeable, offering tastings of unfamiliar beer. There was a large selection of keg beer and a cider, but we went for the cask which was superb. We were just saying how nice it is to come into a pub where the was no background music, so conversation was easy (especially given the hard surfaces which amplify the noise) when they decided to put on piped music. It didn't seem to attract any extra custom, but did mean that we decided that it was time to go. Not sure of the logic behind the decision to make it harder to have a conversation when all the tables were full of people in animated discussion.

Firstly, I have been a regular of Pave since the day it opened. Today's was the BEST meal I've ever had there. We'd been moaning about them putting the prices up recently, but the standard was well worth the price today. The waiter did bring 2 more portions of chips a little later but by then most of us had finished our meal.Several of us had the pave burger. And I realised that the loud, echo filled room stopped me going. Met a friend here at 6pm for an early evening meal and we both ate off the specials board. My prawn salad was tasty enough, but not enough prawn for the price. My friend order the fish cakes and when they arrived they were very well cooked, very dark in colour and very crispy. She mentioned this to the waitress as they were delivered and after tasting them said she couldn't eat them. The young waitress handled this very well and returned a short while later with a replacement meal and was still apologising for the problem. Used to love this place was great to go for a bottle of wine with a group of friends you could sit for hours the atmosphere was perfect, great bar and the staff are lovely. Shame it get's so ridiculously busy on weekend's. Now I don't consider it an option to go on a Saturday night. I understand it is popular but I don't see the appeal of going in when you have to stand up to drink a glass of wine it defeats the point of the place. The last time I went I just walked out the bar was so packed people where dropping drinks on the floor, shouting at the top of their voices so you couldn't have a conversation for lack of hearing and pushing past people to get served, not impressed. People should stop treating the place like a nightclub.

We found Pave by accident .... we were making a first visit to ArtLink to see an exhibition with a theme based around Hull fishermen of the 1950’s to 1970’s and specifically their interest in suits of a certain style. We needed some lunch and Pave was suggested to us. The exterior decoration is subdued, inside it is not brightly lit, and there were more customers than we expected in the early afternoon. Most seemed to be quietly socialising but some were there to eat. We perused the menu, clear and well laid out and offering plenty of variety. We opted for one of the vegetarian options, Vegetable Strudel with Salad and Chips. To wash it down, we resisted the temptations of an impressive bar and chose a glass of Lime & Lemon. The staff offer a pleasant greeting. The Lime & Lemon drinks were excellent, and included a good wedge of each fruit. The food arrived in a reasonable time - the salad was excellent, the chips were hot and without any excess fat or oil, and the Strudels were fine (but we are not vegetarians). The cutlery was basic but clean, and the table/chairs layout was slightly cramped (presumably it gets lots of customers in the evenings or perhaps we had chosen an area designed for drinkers). The service continued to be pleasant and competent. Our visit was during the day, and we would be happy to repeat the experience. As an indication of the attitudes of the staff ..... we were sat near to one of the windows looking onto the high street and we saw that a pedestrian had collapsed on the outside pavement. The individual was quickly surrounded by some passersby eager to help, and we saw a member of staff from within Pave quickly assess the situation, fetch a glass of water, and have a phone to hand to summon an ambulance if required. Fortunately, the pedestrian soon recovered and was able to continue their journey. There appears to be a good community spirit in the area, and road traffic readily gives way to pedestrians waiting to use the crossings.

Location along the avenues fits in nicely with the ease of plenty of bars around, as a wheelchair user i would maybe say visit others first if you are planning on using the facilities as there is tables and chairs all parked in front of toilet and to get through means having to get people to move and not only make you feel like a pain in butt but disrupts other peoples evenings especially if they are eating

Three of us attended for lunch on Sunday at Pave. This was not my first visit to Pave and nor will it be my last. Firstly Pave is a lovely establishment, the decor and atmosphere are reasons to go even not counting the food and drink. But having mentioned food, we had a jerk chicken salad, a halloumi flatbread and a halloumi and beetroot sandwich. My salad was very nice, fresh and nicely spiced with the jerk flavour, but not over powering. The other meals looked very nice and the rest of the party enjoyed it. I have been to Pave previously for food and it has been better than on that day, but it was very busy and by no means a poor meal at all and still very enjoyable. What I am saying is that the food here can be outstanding. Just on a menu note, Pave has a really good meu with lots of vegetarian and gluten free options. There are always specials on the board too. Moving on to the drinks, it has a great range of drinks with Belgium ales, cask ales, lager, other bottles plus more. We were also treat to a jazz duet on the afternoon which was very nice, not too loud so we couldn't still chat and added a lovely atmosphere to the venue. Will definitely be back at Pave again soon. Very tasty homemade bbq sauce in the chicken, bacon and cheese sandwich. This could gave been a 5 blob review but the service was deathly! We arrived at 1pm and didn't get our food until after 2, which with 2 children makes life stressful! The food itself was FAB, I has sea bass which at £6.95 was exceptional value, the kids food was lovely, it was all lovely, just slow. Also a point for families when we arrived it was fine but by 2:30 drunk blokes were rolling in... So maybe best to go early

I've been a few times now to Pave and each time has been really good and nice food!! On this occasion though I had a Bacon and Cheese toasted sandwich it was awful to say the least. The cheese was the kind of orange processed stuff and the bacon was a little to undercooked for my liking.

Went in here for a drink before going for dinner nearby. It was a Saturday afternoon and busy, but we were still able to get a table. We had to wait a few minutes to be served at the bar, but it seemed like a nice place. Would go back.

Upon eating at a local restaurant on prince's ave we came to Pave for a drink. Was served rather quickly, busy night and had no where to sit but other than that great prices

Quiet a nice bar, could do with a refurb, looks shabby. Good feel to the place.Good selection of bottled beers but the pumped gear leaves something to be desired.Always have a look in when in Hull.

Love Sundays in here - so chilled with the best choice of beers around. Good food too! Would highly recommend it.

Went about 2weeks ago now and although normally really nice! On this occasion I had a chicken and bacon with cheese sandwich! The cheese looked and tasted awful but the staff are always brilliant in there!

I've been here for drinks many ones and like the atmosphere here and selection of beers, and generally bar staff are friendly. We made the mistake of eating here yesterday. Food was poor quality, particularly the game pie and looked really unappetising. Worst of all when we were served our food it was dumped in front of us by waitress while she practically ran from the table without asking if we needed anything etc. I had to shout "excuse me" twice to get her attention to ask for mayonnaise, to which she responded "people usually order their condiments with their food"!?! I though this was pretty rude and strange as were not asked about condiments when we ordered the food. Not sure why this waitress expected me to know the weird dining rules. Added to this our plates we not cleared 20 minutes after we'd finished eating and then we left. Lots of other tables had not been cleared in a long time, including long after people had left. Disappointing experience as previous experiences of drinking here have been good. Not expecting gourmet food not super attentive service but pave was missing the very basics when we visited. Would not eat here again.

I stopped eating at Pave a couple of years ago but heard it had improved, unfortunately not the case, I had a burger which was most definately a pre made processed burger, very dry and tasteless. Since the previous management left the new lady manager/entertainer is quite rude and needs a customer service course. Apart from that the beers and bar staff are very good.

We love Pave whatever the occasion but have never tried their Sunday lunch until last weekend. Wow is all I can say. £7 for meat, 5 veg, roasties, 2 beautiful fluffy yorkshires and homemade horseradish sauce. Absolutely wonderful. And we're going this Sunday just to make sure it wasn't just a lucky one off :)

I had pitta bread, olives, hoummous and tzatziki for starter and it was lovely. Basic but nice and very cheap. For main I had the vegetable strudel in filo pastry which had feta inside and med vegetables. It came with chips. Always make the chips Cajun spice as they are amazing! My partner had the pork and prawns which was not too big a portion but tasty all the same. There were two others with us who had the pulled pork sandwiches with Cajun chips. Really tasty, good pub food, good value. Just what you want with a few beers! Couldn’t fault it.

My partner & I really enjoy a full english breakfast every weekend... today we decided at last minute to try 'Pave' & are glad we did! Nothing short of a perfect Full English. Reasonably priced. Food quality & presentation were both excellent! In all honesty I expected standard pub grub but it by far exceeded both mine & my partners expectations! We will be visiting again... I have uploaded a photo of the breakfast... see for yourself... one of the most tasty breakfasts I've had this year!

What makes this the best bar on Princes Avenue, is its selection of beers.Apart from the draught varieties, larger's and quality bitters, there are some very interesting bottled beers with some astonishing ABVs. Friendly and popular with outdoor seating.

Food can be hit and miss but then it is first and foremost a bar. It's not the cheapest on Princes Avenue, that said, the staff are friendly and attentive. The place is clean and they have jazz, music on a Sunday and sometimes comedy too. There are some good ales. It has a vibe that other bars just can't match. Probably due to the design, layout and colour scheme etc etc. Nice space to the rear and it does get the afternoon sun out front. Try it, it's way less chavvy than some other bars on Princes Ave, though it can get hectic on Friday and Saturday's with 'the shirts'

The food seemed to improve again for a while, so I returned, but yesterdays offering was almost a joke. Pave burger is usually a great choice and indeed the burger was delicious. However the bread bun was stale, the chips were limp and greasy (pre or double friend I suspect which is hard to pull off correctly), hardly any salad and my most frequent grip - the plates were cold so the food went cold really quickly. It time to spend my money on lunches out somewhere else, again.

Lively buzzy bar in a city you wouldn't expect to have such things. Great Bavarian Weizenbier and Brooklyn lager. A more middle-aged customer present after the Hull City football match but very friendly and lots of banter.

I can’t fault this cosy venue; good food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. It’s fair-priced and a joy for vegans like me who know there’s good vegan food out there if you look. This place caters for vegetarians and vegans; and there is plenty to eat and choose from, even for vegans. We’re much cared for. My only one quibble would be that there’s one very steep step inside. Can it be modified? Perhaps not if it’s a listed building. That aside I’m so happy to discover this gem of a restaurant in Hull centre.
