First visit after friends recommendation. Yet another hidden gem tucked away north of Glamis. Food excellent as was the service. Had to wait as they were serving a big shooting party. But that was explained before we were seated. Definitely will visit often, but will reserve a table as they were very busy.

Visited on a Sunday about 5pm not particularly friendly waitress came with menus and offered no explanation of what was within ie a lunch menu, a high tea menu ,a dinner menu , there was also a board with specials. It would seem you can order from lunch menu to around 6.30 but not high tea, you can also use the dinner menu if you want I think? Two of us were driving and ordered alcohol free beers, sorry we dont do that was the reply. This is the only restaurant I have been in that dosnt offer this. The decor is much improved and the food was quite good ,service was kind of not to bad from non smiley waitress but could have been better. We will however be back but probably not on a Sunday.

Ross 138 please return as you would not recognise the restaurant you visited recently. The whole place has been refurbished beautifully, check out their web site to see what I mean. The staff were nervous, first night remember, but soon showed that they cared and that was what mattered the rest came naturally. For starters male friend chose scallops and my choice was mussels, main was braised fillet of beef with oxtail for man, duck for me and we shared the pud ,cranachan cheesecake. Each course presented as one would want and the tastes amazing. I could not find fault and believe me I try. Lindsay Armstrong is owner and head chef and he had a very busy first night as every table was booked making for a great atmosphere. Another plus - no annoying background music.

We have visited this restaurant in the past and have always had a lovely meal. We decided to visit again on Sunday for high tea. I have to say it was one of the best meals I have ever had. I decided on Roast beef and Yorkshire puddings. The meat was absolutely fabulous. The puddings, veg and chips cooked to perfection. We were also served toast and a lovely selection of homemade scones and cakes with a pot of tea. All this for £12.95 very good value indeed. Will look forward to our next visit, hopefully soon.

Firstly I disagree with Ross138 completely, are they sure they were at The Park Tavern? Our Vintage Motorcycle Club has just enjoyed a fantastic Christmas Dinner at The Park for the second year running and all 26 of us have nothing but praise for Jim and his team. We were greeted most warmly, the menu was superb, as was all the delicious home cooked food which was all on the table at the same time so everyone could enjoy it together. It is a very homely, comfortable, friendly place to eat, having been there often, the food is always first class and home cooked. We've even been in for a coffee and home made shortbread on a cold afternoon. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and Jim even very kindly donated a good bottle of wine for our raffle. All I can say is keep up the good work Jim, we are coming back, you made Xmas special for our members.

We were taking a older relative out for tea. Not coming from the area we asked her to choose.I really don't mean to be unkind but it was like having tea round your Granny's house. The decor is old fashioned and in need of modernising and the same can be said of the menu. The food wasn't particularly good. I had to order the mushrooms out of curiosity (served with a croissant!!), a bit unusual and along the lines of something I'd knock up if raiding the fridge after the pub.Mains weren't great - I think everything was cooked from frozen which is pretty poor form, it's not hard to boil fresh veg and make chips from scratch. At £95 for four it's overpriced for the quality of food served up. No frills stuff - Not my cup of tea

Took my mum and my 2 children out for lunch yesterday. We've eaten here several times, though this was the first time with the kids (30 months and 18 months). The food is always top quality. The children's menu is basic, but the food quality was fantastic. The children thoroughly enjoyed their meal, as did we. I'll definitely bring them back. There is a huge range of choice for adults, and although it is kind of 'pub grub', it doesn't taste that way! It is also beautifully presented and you can't complain about the portion size. Big shout out for the waiting staff. Their manner was excellent. They were courteous and friendly towards the children.

We didn't know what to expect when we arrived, and we weren't disappointed. Being a vegetarian I was expecting the usual mac'n cheese or veggie lasagne, so I was delighted when I saw a couple of choices and decided on the nut roast with mushroom sauce and seasonal veg, my companion even went for a veggie option too, the mushroom croissant. Our food arrived freshly cooked, hot and looking good. It was delicious, the mushroom sauce was excellent and the vegetables were fresh and cooked well. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. If I'm ever back in this area this is where I will come for a lovely comforting dinner.

Having recently read a very good review from a journalist in the local paper, I was interested in paying a visit to the Park Tavern. We were not disappointed!!!! On entering the car park we were surprised at how busy it was but managed to find a parking space. We received a friendly and warm welcome but were advised the restaurant was full. However, after a bit of juggling tables we were informed if we waited 15minutes then a table would be free, so we decided to stay, after all if it's full, it must be good. We were invited to sit at the bar and have a drink whilst we waited. The atmosphere was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed the company. We were shown to our window table just 10 minutes later. There was a surprising amount of choices on the menu but eventually our choices were made. I had the haggis balls, vegetarian lasagne, followed by a cheese board. Each course was delivered in a timely fashion and was very tasty, in particular the cheese board, it was superb!! The waiter had great attention to detail and we really received great service. I will definitely be back !!!Having read previous reviews, I feel I must explain, having recently moved to Kirriemuir and being warmly welcomed into the community I really feel it's unjust describing the people as parochial and local yokels and I can only suggest they group together resources and buy a return ticket to the red planet, should anyone care to use it.

A much over-rated bar restaurant; its high scoring is a reflection of the scarcity of reasonable dining places in this region. My wife and I reside nearby and have done for a number of years. We heard good reports about the place and upon seeing the high scoring on this site a visit became imperative. We had lunch two days ago and regrettably found it disappointing. While situated within a caravan site its position is not well sign-posted. The entrance to it is disappointing, indeed, it is almost difficult to find how to get into it. It is necessary to pass through the dark dingy bar to get to the dining area where the local yokels huddle in a corner and ogle fresh faces almost as if one is an alien from the red planet. The restaurant is tired looking; its carpet is tacky and the table at which we sat had an equally tacky surface and so too did the menu cards which had bits of other diner's meals stuck to them. The tables were decorated with small cheap wally flower vases with what looked more like weeds than flowers and those who patronise it are rating it as a 4 and 5 star joint? The quantity of the meal would suit a ravenous manual worker and its quality was not much better and vegetables are provided whether or not they are desired. The boiled new potatoes and the ones that were fried (meant to be roasted) were hard in the centre and while the fish was okay the sauce was gooey. My wife had the sticky-toffee pudding for sweet while I settled for the apple-pie and custard which I thought was a safe choice, that was after seeing what else was on offer. Both the apple-pie and custard were over sweet and the pie was soggy! Most of the meal had to be abandoned and so too was the G&T which my wife ordered; it tasted like dishing-up water! After the meal both my wife and myself felt a tad nauseous and we had indigestion for the remainder of the day, indeed, the day following my wife continued to suffer from indigestion. The tall slim waiter in attendance seemed unhappy and had no idea of the trade; at one stage he left the dirty dishes with half eaten meals from another table in front of us while he attended to another matter; I trust that the message is getting across! Kirriemuir is an extremely parochial over-grown village where the law is applied only when it suits the locals otherwise it is non-existent. The tavern is situated outside of the village and why it is said to be at Glamis can only be due to the Royal connection. Undoubtedly, Chef Ramsey would be in his element here!To each his own.

Originally from Forfar but now living in Edinburgh, where I am spoilt for choice restaurant-wise, I still frequently visit family in my home town and whenever we have a special event that needs celebrating we invariably choose the Park Tavern. Here's why:FoodExcellent, home cooked, British/Scottish Food. Usually huge helpings and always delicious. I can't remember every item on the menu but I do remember:Starters- A croissant filled with mushrooms in a creamy sauce. I think they were garlic mushrooms, can't remember but I always have this as a starter as I love it SO much.- Melon with some sort of dark red coloured sorbet- SoupMain Course- Big piece of steak sitting on a bed of stovies with onion rings on top.- Battered haddock- Steak pie- Gammon steak- Chicken curry- Chicken breast in a lovely sauceI'm not making this sound as appealing as it is in real life.Dessert- We were too full to eat much so ordered small desserts with a coffee at £4.95 a go. The small desserts were huge. We all had a sort of Eton Mess type thing.AtmosphereAlways warm and friendly. The restaurant is beside a campsite and is also used as a pub.ServiceAgain, excellent, attentive and friendly.PriceWorked out at about £23 a head (everyone had at least 2 courses) which included a bottle of wine, 5 coffees and 3 mini desserts (we shared).ComfortAh, now, this is where I always feel things could be improved. I always feel that the tables could be a bit bigger to give each diner more elbow room and also possibly a tad higher. But this is a minor point.

The Park Tavern is one of the best eating place around Kirriemuir. We've been there on numerous occassions with family and friends and every time the food has been excellent. Catering for all tastes we tended to go for high tea. It's great value for money and includes tea, toast, main course and selection of cakes/scones. I would highly recommend you visit but be warned, it can get very busy especially during the summer season (the caravan park is on its doorstep) and at Christmas so booking is advisible. Go on treat yourself!

We phoned on saturday at 6.10pm to see if they did high tea and they said that high tea finished at 6.30pm. However, they said that if we arrived by 6.45pm, then they would do high tea for us. That was good of them. They asked if we would mind being seated in the bar area. It was a lovely bar area with a cozy fire and nice atmosphere. Our meal was very good. Proper home made steak pie. Decent sized portions. The cake selection was great. Again, all home made and very yummy. The girls serving us were nice too, despite being run off their feet as it was very busy. We will return. Hoping to take my gran there for lunch. Its in a lovely setting, the grounds of a caravan park. Its not exclusive to people staying there. The only reason I have given it a 4star rather than a 5star rating is that the jam wasnt home made and the coffee was instant. Not a big deal though. Thanks guys for a nice evening.

When my friend, who is vegetarian, visits from Spain, we always struggle to find a restaurant offering a little more than macaroni cheese - now we have! The chef at the Park Tavern was happy to offer and prepare fresh dishes, it was a first for my friend who then had difficulty choosing which dish to have. A very good menu for vegetarians and carnivores alike with a good choice of reasonably priced dishes. This restaurant in a rural setting has a friendly atmosphere and is well worth a vista.
