Park House Bar in Wokingham

We had our wedding reception at the Meadow Suite in Park House and it was great. Staff were lovely, always 3 of them on the bar, so little or no wait time, and the venue was fantastic. Very happy with it all. We didn't have any catering/food so can't comment on that.

I recently visited to try their Sunday Roast (which is not cheap by any means). I decided to try their Nut Roast option. I can only express how disappointed I was with meal. Presentation wise, it looked fine until I tucked it. The was meal was lukewarm, bordering on cold. The potatoes were dry, the Yorkshire Pudding was as tough as cardboard and cold - my knife struggled to even cut through it. The cabbage was also cold. The only thing that was warm, was the gravy. For £17.95....it was a total disappointment.

Friendly service and good range of local beers

A beautiful place in Reading Uni grounds, but ruined by zero atmosphere, rude, unfriendly, and miserable staff who have zero social skills and zero idea how to treat people. It isn't a prison camp in Kabul so i have no idea why you'd not be happy and friendly. It really is not hard. Smile, laugh, create a buzz. If you really don't like people, work as an accountant, or in an abattoir. It filters down from the top.

What a shame this place has gone downhill so badly. We used to come here often but have gone back yesterday and the prices of the food have doubled, the portioned halved and the quality is non existent. My friend ordered a sweet potato soup, got given a mushroom one as they had run out of the sweet potato (but didn't tell her at the time of ordering). It was so watery and disgusting it had to be sent back. It came with one tiny slice of bread. The cheese toasties were tiny and lacked in cheese. In the summer the staff was so unexperienced as all the students have gone home and only international students were working that the queues were horrendous. They didn't know what a lager shandy was and my daughter had to make a cocktail herself. They can't employ students from other Universities so all the summer students who are back home can't get a job there, even if they clearly were struggling to get staff, and the ones they had were useless. Such a shame as it is in a great location. Please sort out your food and staff!

Lovely old building in peaceful green space, ideal for a drink and bite to eat whether sat outside in the sunshine or tucked up in the cosy space inside in the winter. There are a few annoyances though. The bar staff are frequently very inexperienced and on busy evenings not enough of them and you will queue out the door. Some of the food, like the burgers, are tasty and great value for money, many other dishes are small and over priced.

Disappointing customer service, bordering on rude, when we tried to order food. Informed kitchen closed 1 minute before we arrived, and 15 minutes before stated time. Staff seem short on customer experience training.

Excellent find! Lovely burger and chips and half a pint of proper apple juice and a lovely rum to finish it off. 10/10. Really, really good value.

This is a great place to eat and drink. They have a great selection of beers and the food is excellent. We had a Sunday roast which was absolutely superb. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. I fully reccomend Park House and it's well worth a regular visit.

I just visited this place. The place itself is very vibrant and you can have a lot of fun there. However, the food is really below average. Did not enjoy it. Kebab was really bad, ribs...only food was chips with ketchup ok. A lot of selection of great beverages, but food needs to be improved. Thank you, my opinion after visiting.

Best place I've found in Reading for good traditional ale and craft beers at excellent costs. Friendly staff, and a great focus on local beer really sets this place apart.

A really lovely student-run pub on the Uni of Reading's Whiteknight's Campus. Charming atmosphere made from a converted house. Includes wood panelling, outdoor seating, and is dog friendly. The pub has a very good rotation of independent guest beers, and the food is surprisingly ambitious with its seasonal ingredients. I think because it usually staffed by students, the service can be a little wanting at times (with the occasional forgotten order rearing its head more often than it probably should). Nonetheless, I think the best pub in Whiteknights Park

The food is ok, but I feel like there are far better options within the city centre. It is better for more casual drinks than for food

Range of beers is excellent, mainly local & regularly changed. Food used to be better, but is still great value. Location is awesome. Summertime it’s got the fields to let the children run around. Harris garden provides a good option to walk. History of the place is interesting too.

I photographed a wedding here recently, from a photographer's perspective it is an ideal location. It has beautiful outside space with the backdrop of an architecturally interesting building, inside the light is stunning. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious

Ordered ribs for £6.25 which came out dry and over cooked (black). My friend ordered calamari for £6.25 which was not only very undercooked (still swimming) be he also only go 7 small pieces (almost £1 a piece!!!!). I then had a chicken burger which was pink and rubbery. Hopefully this was the cut and it wasn’t raw! Service was decent but some of the staff were quite unfriendly. Best thing was the lemonade cordial which was also a ripoff. Certainly won’t be going back and food certainly isn’t worth it!

Relaxing, friendly & traditional pub environment. Good food and overall noticeably cheaper than high street venues. Can get a bit noisy due to har reflective services during busy periods. There are outside benches to use when it's not raining.

Enjoyed a Beer-Battered Fish lunch, a cider and atmosphere.

Great little bar! The food is great value as are the drinks. Ideal summer spot with the huge amount of outdoor seating, cosy inside with welcoming atmosphere.

Great place for a quick pint after wandering the byways of Reading University. All reports are that it is good. We will be back.

Vegetarian burger came as meat. Everyone coming out of the kitchen didn't know what food they were holding, which led to different cooks on stakes being g served to different people. One of our group never got their food, and when we brought it up to the manager, they didn't believe us and asked for their receipt. When ordering the person behind the bar refused to ask the kitchen what was the catch of the day. Food was ok Bad service

Bit chaotic. Food ok. Sadly 2 things I ordered were not available, which left me with limited options. It's ok. We went with a group and it was good for that. Food arrived very quickly. Oddly my starter and main were brought together.

Lovely environment and affordable drinks.

Meal very ordinary. Price average. During my visit, the waiting time for my order was about 10 minutes. I'm ok with this. Tables should be cleaned more frequently. Annoying ashtrays left full in table. Positive things I noticed bowl with water for a dog ready for visitors with pets. Very good local beer crafted cheapest on the list on the board. I can't advertise her, but I recommend this golden fluid. Lovely atmosphere, as places near London can be very expensive, this one is a good compromise between area, price and atmosphere. Recommended for visit, near by beautiful University garden. It's worth popping in.

Great selection of local craft beer,had Sunday dinner vegetables were lovely but the beef was a bit rare for me friend had pork belly and said that was tasty. Fish and chips looked lovely when they were coming out

This place used to be great, incredible food and brilliant value. Yesterday, however, I was served fish which was blue. I brought it back and after hearing it brought to the (angry, yelling) chef, was told it’s where the skin had come off, it dyed the fillet blue. I showed the staff that the skin was on the opposite side of the fillet. The employee proceeded to tell me that it was where the skin came off the other side that it was blue. I think the staff need fish anatomy lessons, as they seem to think a fish fillet comes with skin on two sides. It was nice to have all the staff argue with me and make me feel extremely uncomfortable for having an issue with eating blue-dyed fish on my graduation day. The pork ribs were absolutely horrendous, a dried mess. The chicken wings were also terrible. It’s really a shock to see how far down the drain the food has gone here and I don’t even have the words for the treatment of customers.

Great setting and spacious yet intimate surroundings of the university's old senior common room. Excellent ale but only 4 stars as the range was very limited ... like only one real ale ready on tap. It's almost certainly the time of year, as there's usually a great selection. Staff were great. Cards only - no cash.

A great little cruiser...but unfortunately my last visit was ruined by a mentally unstable man called Harvey, I presume a student, who kept coming up to my table on the gravel beer garden reaching into his trousers and asking if I wanted to see his 'special friend'. Before I could get a member of staff to come out or call Campus Security to come out and help the poor soul he had jumped into a bush and started legging it to the lake shouting something about Chelsea's Kai Havertz

Decent price! Sweet potato and double barreled academia lager are my favourite. Every wednesday after football match we go there and have 2 pints together with friends.

Great dog and family friendly place nestled in the middle of Reading University grounds. Lots of green space for the kids to let off steam and free dog treats for the K9s. Food and drink choices are good and reasonably priced. Plenty of space outside under large umbrellas or inside.

I love this pub! A great place to come and have a drink, they also do great chips with garlic aioli and very friendly staff too.

Lovely venue, daughters wedding reception was held here, excellent food, very reasonably priced drinks, plenty of space for tables, dancing and a terrace, rest rooms were clean and easily accessible, There is wheelchair parking and entrance. Family and friends had a fantastic day

Usually have a good experience but is hit and miss. Lately the food has been not so good (chicken wings had no meat on and shouldn't have been served) we didn't get all the food we ordered and they just kept bringing out more food then taking it back when they realised they gave us 3 too many chips. The staff werent trained properly and were quite rude.

Really great bar for a quiet drink although that said, dogs and children are very welcome. 🙂 Good beer and wine although wine a little pricey at £8.50 for 250 ml. Suspect it was a very good quality one though!

Nice food, though menu can be a little limited some times in the year. Usually good though. Because the staff tend to be students some can be friendly while some can be a little less so, so I'd say that's the weakest aspect of the place, but on the whole staff are helpful, food is nice and setting is lovely in what I think is the old estate house. Nice location in the middle of campus but tucked away nice and cosy too.

This place is amazing. Had beer and dinner with friend there lately. There is outdoor space as well as indoor dining area. Excellent atmosphere and abundant choice of craft beer. Staff is friendly too.
