The only good thing about the restaurant was the Ambience. Lady server was sweet and helped in selection of food. Food was alright, portions are smaller than the exorbitant price you pay for. The boy server was cocky and had an attitude. Terrible customer service. Despite pointing out the undercooked chicken, he had an attitude, zero attention by the chef to atleast come out and seek the problem. He cleared the plates without giving attention to the problem and only just highlighted its double cooked, which one can see from pictures 😞, its not. I’ cook chicken everyday and I know what cooked chicken looks like. Paid a high price for what we had and charged an unjustified service fee for a cocky attitude Never returning again. Pictures for proof for the undercooked chicken and bill! 👎❌

Visited this restaurant again on 26th July and did not disappoint. The food is just so nice. Yes the portions can be small but this is depending on what you order. I've read reviews where the food comes out at intervals which we love and we have always been told this when seated. Alongside the fabulous food, is the staff. There is a lovely girl who works there, always smiling and very attentive, cracks jokes and genuinely makes the place welcoming!

Really good Mediterranean food (other than the aubergine fattoush, which was just delicious aubergine in a disappointing green salad). Highly recommended, especially the flatbread.

Lovely food - fresh, innovative, interesting. Recommend the garlic flatbread and the hummus with tomato - but everything was great. Not the cheapest but absolutely worth it - our whole group really loved the food. (The drinks were probably overpriced).

Had a lovely meal at Papa Ganoush! Every single dish we tried was packed with flavour and fresh. Was excited to see the menu as I understand that it changes regularly; the one on their website is a sample menu only. Very reasonably priced for the quality and the experience. Servers were knowledgeable and friendly. Will definitely be back!

First visit, and it won't be the last.

Absolutely delicious food, can't fault it at all, lovely environment. A bit pricey overall for the amount of food, especially when they sneak a 10% service charge onto the bill without asking. I like to leave an optional tip, not a compulsory one.

Amazing food heaps of different options and great service

Food is exquisite. There were 5 of us and we ordered the whole menu bar 3 of the small plates. If we were hungrier we could have easily eaten the whole menu. Service was a little slow but it was busy and we ordered a lot. It was also a Saturday night and the atmosphere was nice enough to sit and chat.

Delicious small plates. Favourites were the flatbread (side), the halloumi/ pea and feta falafel, the mussels. In fact everything good!

It was Good Friday. Every table had a vase with (very) dead daffodils in it. Was this intentional?! If so, it created a decidedly un-springlike atmosphere. A 30 min wait for the first dish whilst enjoying a drink would be fine, but when only given 1 hour 15 on the table, we felt rushed. The houmous and flatbread was lovely, as were the pea falafel and pork kebab. The seabass dish had a minuscule amount of fish on the plate. We were then re-presented with another pork kebab (not ordered and returned) and then more falafels (also not ordered and returned). Eventually, our chicken and harissa kebab arrived (after some prompting) and it was nice. Waiting staff were not attentive. No water was offered and we weren’t offered another drink when our glasses were empty. We only had 20 mins left on our ‘table meter’ so didn’t bother chasing one up. No banter from the staff, or even a courtesy check-up. This may suggest understaffing but may be just inattentiveness. The toilets smelt damp. Overall, sorry to say, not the best. But not terrible either.

The food here is absolutely gorgeous!!!! Such a good variety of small plates, there’s something for everyone and you can just tell so much care goes into the preparation. The hummus and pita are a must! Only one very small complaint which was that we ordered a salad which came after we’d already had all of our hot dishes. Really recommend this place though!

A real hidden gem in the heart of Whitley Bay — the restaurant is up a set of steps next to a busy Indian. We went on a Wednesday night (kebab night) after reading lots of positive reviews, and we were not disappointed! Absolutely delicious food — we shared a few dishes so we could try more of the menu, all fresh and flavoursome but the chicken shish was the star of the show. The service was quick and friendly, and we liked the ambiance of the place (low lighting, intimate setting). Will be going back!

Delicious food. We went for the taster menu but due to staffing issues, which was apparent. they were just doing the kebab menu. Based on the kebabs tho, looking forward to returning for the taster menu!

Surely there is an appropriate time to say "we don't have that tonight" Is it when you first sit down and they give you the menu? Is it when they run through the menu and talk through everything? Or is it when you order? Clearly it's when you order.... Even after you have been told how good the dish they convinced you to have isn't available.... Seriously how difficult can the job be? The food we ordered in the end was good but the journey spoilt the overall experience

Amazing food and the service came thick and fast once we’d put our order in. Between five of us we ordered the whole menu, each dish was well constructed, delicious and the quantity was enough to leave us perfectly satisfied. 10/10 would recommend for a gem in the local area.

Definitely not disabled friendly upstairs, and more stairs to toilet, however, the food was mostly fantastic! The best hummus Ive eaten with hot pitta bread. The chicken kebab was delicious as was the halloumi with fig. Pork was our least favourite as a bit tough. Nice atmosphere and staff were fine. I'd definitely return.

Nice place, very small and quite a limited menu, but food well cooked and tasty. We were limited for time because they were busy but the service was quite slow and we were a little rushed at the end. We were also surprised to find that they only do one type of desert a night and there was only 1 serving left! A delicious basque cheesecake that we had to share. Bear in mind we were eating early and our table had to be vacated by 7.30pm. Which means that no one after us had any desserts. Either bad planning or they're just not bothered. It is a shame as we'll probably think twice before returning again.

Fantastic place to eat. Food is exceptional and you can really tell they have thought about this menu. I love the fact the food comes out in intervals, it gives you time to really enjoy what you have. Service is always great, staff are lovely. As a local resident we have been here many times but would now not recommend. Attitude of management was clear through whole experience; rude staff, poor service and food no longer unique- not what it used to be. Overall hugely disappointing and not an enjoyable experience. I would recommend taking yourself and your money elsewhere- loads of other fab places like Omni or Pranzo.

Was great, very helpful staff, very very tasty food, not cheapest around but definitely worth ££. Can't remember the last time I didn't have a gripe with a meal.

My wife and I visited for her birthday. Overall we had a lovely evening. The food was tasty, the atmosphere was inviting and the service was good. However, as many people have pointed out, the portion sizes are small and very expensive for what they are. We ordered two starters, four small plates and had two drinks each - so we didn’t go wild. Our bill came in at £95! And we still left hungry. I can forgive the prices of the food but charging £6.50 for a can of beer (not from draught or even pint-sized) is criminal. I’m pleased we went, we had a good night but we won’t be rushing back.

Such a wonderful meal and atmosphere. The food has always been fantastic. The last 3 meals we've had here have been some of my favourite dining experiences. As a non meat eater it's so great to have the sea bass on the menu and the return of salads really brings it all together for me. Cannot wait to go again next month

This was a highly recommended restaurant, but did not reach my expectations. The food was lovely, but the service was poor. Our starters arrived at staggered intervals, so we were waiting approximately 15 minutes before all the dishes were at out table. The same with our main dishes too. Although the food was excellent, the portion sizes were meagre. A very expensive evening, and we came away hungry.

Server was lovely and very helpful, all the food was absolutely delicious and came out quickly. Would highly recommend to anyone and will be back!

Menu smaller than previous visits, food served was all tasty but portions have reduced greatly and prices have gone up. Appreciate the cost of everything has gone up but £8 for 4 carrots is expensive, regardless of how nice they are. Service wasn’t great, never asked about extra drinks, asked several times for the bill and waited a while for all our mains to arrive so could eat them together.

We we’re booked in for 7:45 and arrived on time to a very full and noisy restaurant with lots of people waiting for food. Unsurprisingly we didn’t get our main course until 9:15 with only a cursory apology. The ‘plates’ are tiny portions and not worth the money. Everything is really oily too. One positive is the hummus and pitta bread. They are delicious. The bill came to £70 with only 2 drinks. I’m disappointed that the focus seems to have shifted to profit. We won’t hurry back.

Nice decor. Server was obnoxious, snobby and rude, spoke to his staff poorly. Half the menu was stricken out and did not match what is posted online. Very little choice. So we left. Was looking forward to a lovely birthday dinner there.

Wildly delicious small plates! A hidden gem. I had a chicken skewer, baked halloumi and an asparagus/pea/mint/chilli salad. All beyond tasty.

Food was plentiful and very tasty. Highlights were sea bass with dill and halloumi and fig in honey. The pitta was amazing. One item wasn’t what we ordered but it was lovely and we actually didn’t realise until later! Quite expensive but worth it

Visited this restaurant on Saturday evening. First impressions were good, the restaurant was very busy and had a nice atmosphere. We ordered a selection of starters and small plates to share, this is were it went downhill ! The food was very underwhelming , small portions and very overpriced. I have to agree with previous comments in that charging £5.50 for hummus which does not come with pittta bread is a joke surely ! The customer service also left a lot to be desired, the staff were not at all friendly, at no point were we asked if everything was okay and the food plates were taken away before we were asked if we were finished eating. We used to love coming here when there was a variety of wraps on the menu, however it is now very overpriced for small plates of food and unfortunately we will not be returning.

The sea bass was amazing. Loved the variety of vegetable dishes. Limited dessert menu.

What a fantastic place! Lovely people, great atmosphere and the food was just so good. The falafel was hands down the best we’ve tasted and the dip with the padron peppers was a really nice addition. The bread and dips just so fresh, it was really lovely. The only thing we felt could improve this restaurant (and we had to think long and hard) would be to find ways to make some of the cooked small plates as fresh as some of the other plates, maybe with less batter on the Chicken and Sea Bass, or one with and one without perhaps? We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Papa Ganoush, we travelled up from Surrey and would definitely come again next time we visit.

Not overly impressed to be honest, which was disappointing as I had heard wonderful things about this restaurant. The server was helpful, recommending how many mains, sides, starters/pitta etc per person. However, some of us weren't happy with our side dishes. In fairness, the dish was removed and refunded on the bill but then we were informed by one of the servers that the item had been deducted from the bill but that that was how it was supposed to be served. Er. Hello. Please don't assume that your customers don't know how food is supposed to be served. Hispi cabbage, chargrilled until it is burned on the edges but rock solid in the middle? Absolutely not! Some dishes were excellent. Others just so-so. £9 on average for a small plate of food. £7 for a side dish of vegetables? Sorry. That is ridiculously overpriced. I can't see me coming back never mind coming back any time soon. There are better places to go and also with better prices. If you don't mind paying way over the odds for your food then the ambiance is nice if you can climb the steep flight of stairs up to the dining area.
