PadThai StrEAT in Carlisle

Wow!!! Alan and Mai make a fabulous Thai meal. This cannot be beaten in taste and value. If you want a reasonable priced very tasty Thai meal you must go. I haven't been for a year as I have been following a diet plan but now I remember what I've been missing!! Last night I ordered 2 x Beef Penang Thai Currys, 2 x sticky rice (if you haven't tried this - please do - so authentic), 1 x Prawn Spring Roll and gave my collection time. I reheated in oven and microwave for tea tonight and it was all delicious!! I believe all of this was very generous portions and cost just over £20. Alan and Mai also do a loyalty card and after a number of visits you are rewarded with money off your next order. They work in a very small van together but it works for them. Mai keeps Alan in check too! Please note they need a request for sticky rice the day before as it takes longer to prepare.

Anyone who loves Thai food or wishes to try it should visit Alan & Mays van. The Saturday night special for two at £18 is amazing value and there portions are so good it does three! Fabulous food, great choice all served up with a smile 😊 Thank you.

I wil organise travelling up and down the M6 just so I can go here for my lunch! Hot, tasty and unbelievable value for money. Great Thai currys and served with a smile and a bit of banter. Oh, and they give you loads!

Passed red van on way to supermarket how great to see it back .we ordered on last day of trading in march before lockdown.it was to celebrate my 60th birthday as no where was trading or in a good place countries locking down hourly, shops bare .food was fantastic so we were thrilled to see it back called on phone to order spring rolls later in week.alan said we have some now.we did a turn around as soon as possible and went straight there bliss the journey was torture until we got home it was smell of Thai fusion was amazing.we took some to family much to there delight . Food was being made but the aroma from Thai was irrisistable so the prepared food was stored until next day.THANKYOU.,very much so glad your back .see you soon.

Since reopening at the Viaduct car park I’ve been back twice and it’s only been a week! The food is always fresh and generous with different choices daily. Look at their Facebook page for their daily specials, top scran. My personal fave is the chicken jungle followed by chicken red but must have water ready! They do food for the freezer, so you can get a PadThaiStreat treat for tea too - they say phone these through the day before, but you may might strike lucky and get some ‘unbooked’ on the day especially closer to closing. Always smiling and always polite, Carlisle’s best takeaway, shame they can’t open more often - or maybe a good idea for the waist size! 😋

is travelling back home over 85 miles with the 10 curries we had picked up for the freezer as truck not reopening yet. They were still fresh and hot/warm.................the aroma was amazing but was tormenting me so even though Alan and May had packed them up for us thoughtfully in bags and a cardboard box we had to stop the car and repack into our freezer box else I would have had been driven mad by the smell and probably had to eat one immediately! Glad to report Alan there was very liitle leakage and can now report we have now had one of the chicken mossaman curries and the chicken penang which were both delicious. We will try and eke out the others until you reopen but it will be difficult.

What can I say about this food truck - only the best Thai food I’ve ever had in this country alan and mai who run it are very customer focused and have such wonderful rapport with all the dishes are all wonderful it’s a must go to for us - we especially love Tuesdays when you get a deal on meals great for sticking in the freezer for when we run out of ideas at home.

Just enjoyed the red and green curries we ordered for the freezer just before Christmas. As usual they were absolutely delicious. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Alan and May and it's great to see a small business do so well because of their great food, great value and great service. If you haven't visited the little red van yet, you should certainly join the queue.

Super friendly people, excellent value for money and - most importantly - very good food (I went for the jungle curry after being provided with a couple of free samples). Thoroughly recommended!

Nice food, good service and well priced. It is handy to park and collect the food and the staff are really helpful and generous with their portions. I find the curries a little too watery for me but the flavour is definitely there. There isn't a lot of choice but that doesn't matter. The food is authentic and well cooked.

Went with my wife it was very busy but we weren't waiting.. as for the food well it was mouth we had the beef and noodle starter wowzer.. service was great. Great price.. Totally recommend

All the reviews I had read were spot on - this place is amazing. We called for lunch en route to the lakes. We ordered Yellow Thai Chicken curry with rice and a portion of Beef Thai Basil stir fry. The food was amazing. We will be back, unfortunately I did not get a loyalty card offered to me but maybe next time...............

Delicious Thai food to take away from a mobile van. A small queue formed in front of the food van - a good sign - staff were very helpful and friendly, husband and wife run outfit. Offered to let us taste food and chatted with us. Two portion sizes, but larger pre-orders of their Thai food are available and recommended. Fab!

What can I say, I've tried pretty much everything off the menu and have never had anything that could be described as anything other than delicious. The beef panang is simply amazing and I never thought I'd taste a better Thai dish, until May created Beef Streat, one of the most flavourful dishes I've ever eaten.Both Alan and May are the most personable people you'll ever meet, the service is fantastic and the prices are spot on. This place is an absolute gem.

Food here always good, love all the dishes they do, good portions, fantastic value, quick and efficient.

Have been many times and never had a bad meal. Always tastes fresh and great, better than anything restaurant wise I've had. The Jungle curry is a favourite, hot but unlike some hot food you can still taste everything.

Had my lunch here today. I’ve eaten from Pad Thai Street Eat numerous times and every meal has been brilliant. I usually go for jungle curry as I love it spicy. However, today I had chicken pad Thai and asked for it to be extra spicy - beautiful, plentiful and most importantly 10/10 spice and 10/10 for flavour!

Called this afternoon to pick up my telephone order. I've ordered ahead and intend to re-heat our curries for our evening meal. However, as usual we can't wait and have already scoffed some of our spring rolls. They are amazing!!! Roll on 7pm tonight. I cannot rate this food highly enough, we have never had a sub par meal from Padthai and the owners are so friendly. One of Carlisle's gems.

Absolutely love their food they have a great range on offer and if you are not sure they will let you taste before you buy. Have introduced colleagues who also love the food. Faveourite of mine is the chicken masaman curry.

Went here today for dinner with a couple of friends,and was so excited to try the curries as I had heard alot of good reviews/reommendations. Boy did they not disappoint. I had chicken penang with a side of chicken meatballs. Bloody gorgeous. Food was fresh, good quality and great taste. I ant wait to go back. Looking forward to trying the duck red thai. Thanks

The food is UNBELIEVABLE! I was drawn in by the delicious smell some time before Christmas and now a 2-3 times a week regular. They have different specials every day and their signature dish PadThai is out of this world, but telephone before to order or you could wait 10 or so minutes - but definitely worth it. Excellent friendly service from this lovely couple, a winning formula hard to beat. See you next week Alan and May!

Tried this place for the first time. From the first phone call the service was great! Alan was really helpful. Picked up the food at 3pm to heat up later for dinner. When collected the order the service was still 100% Really helpful & friendly. The food was delicious (I love Thai food & my standards are high!) This place will be a regular from now on. Thank you!

Only tried the satay skewers, meatballs and banana pancake, however it was lovely, and worth the wait in the rain for. Will definitely try more next time we're in town. There was a long queue but food was obviously in demand.

Don't be put off by the fact the food is served from a van...there's a reason there's a queue snaking round the car park it's situated in. Thai green curry comes highly recommended and the portion for £5 is HUGE! This isn't just fast food...it's FAB food!

Our son intrioduced us to this amazing food. The food is delicious so tasty and the lovely couple who own the van are so lovely, friendly and so helpful It's also very reasonably priced the best takeaway food in Carlisle we are recommending to friends and family and to anybody who hasent yet tried it I promise you will not be disappointed. We love good food and have eaten at lots of Michelin stared restaurants and this van should have a Michelin star or two or three!!!!!

Have been wanting to try this place for ages and finally did today, I'm glad I did.Theres loads of choice, you get loads and was really tasty, they do a loyalty card thing too which is good, it's got a good reputation and it's well deserved , will be back to try more Thai delights

The food here is so tasty, restaurant quality food from a van... Chicken spring rolls and the Pad Thai are delicious!

My colleagues and I occasionally treat ourselves to a Thai takeout lunch from here, we've never been disappointed and have tried quite a few of the dishes between us. This week we had chicken satay and a red, yellow and green curry. Delicious. Always served with a smile too.

Day off so decided to go and get a curry for lunch, excellent as usual,a Thai red curry and home made spring roll, so good I'm off work tomorrow and going back for a panang beef curry it's unbelievable that food of this quality is cooked in a van !! I would urge anyone visiting to try the food I could guarantee you will not be disappointed

What can I say that hasn't already been said? The food is second to none, always plenty of choice and freshly made. I couldn't even tell you what is my favourite as they are all equally fabulous. Keep doing what you're doing. Definitely Carlisle legends.

Great takeaway food, fantastic flavours and really pleasant couple. Convenient t to stop if you are in the car. Less convenient if you are on foot in bad weather, nowhere ha dying undercover.

Parked on a car park near to town. Always busy when they are there. Food is great and staff very helpful. Only a pity they are not there all the time. Could do with their own restaurant .

Great takeaway meal from a very helpful couple who offered sample tastings etc so I could choose which curry I was going to have. Two points to note: (1) The location shown on TripAdvisor is wrong (as at October 2016): it is on Nelson Bridge (north side) just west of the junction with Viaduct Estate Road; (2) There are a couple of benches next to the railway bridge to eat your meal on if you are not taking it back to your house, car, office etc.

Cannot fault the food at all. I was a bit disappointed because I couldn't get pad Thai without a wait due to telephone orders. However I was offered a taste of various curries and the chicken so I could tell how good it was!! The portions are huge and good value for the amount of meat and veg and rice given. Can't wait to go back and try something new. I had the Penang curry and my friend had the yellow curry. The yellow was perfect if you like mild. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful food full of flavour and value for money. I visited at end of day as he was closing up so managed to buy 4 meals for a great price. I took them home n froze two for another day as they freeze very well. Would defiantly recommend if you haven't tried already

We are working our way through the menu of this great find. The portions are very generous and the spring rolls are really good. It's easy to find and we have never had a problem with parking or long to wait.The pad Thai is particularly good and is spiced to order

This discovery by the office has been a gem of a find. Great, tasty food at good price. Thai green and red curries have been our favourites, and often topped off with vegetable spring rolls. Food always tasty and fresh. Pre-booking an order by phone doesn't always offer the time advantage we're looking for, as we've had to wait a couple of times for the order to be put together. That said the Thai Tuesday deals (4 for 3), and a collection card are both great offers that encourage us back. Speaking selfishly it would be good to have an outlet at the north end of town. Looking forward to our next meal

You certainly get what you pay for from Pad Thai. The food is just amazing. I am unable to say if i actually have a favorite dish, however if pushed would say the Pad Thai. They run a free meal system. Spend £6 and get a Stamp. Fill the card and get a free meal. Friendly owners. We always ring to book as it is always busy.I would go there everyday if i could.

Saturday pad Thai is a treat we enjoy, esp my 87 yr old mother who loves the veg spring rolls. I've tried all the dishes and have enjoyed them all but I must admit I do like the red curry. Alan & May are lovely, they give a great service and the price is reasonable too. I've read a few of the reviews on here this morning from people who have said Alan is rude!!! No way, you must have been at the wrong van! Alan couldn't be rude if he tried, load of rubbish. Long may the pad Thai van continue.

I've been here a few times and always rate it very highly. The food is so tasty.. Better than any sit in Thai restaurants in Carlisle.. And the owners are so friendly. Because it's so popular we always phone orders in to make sure we don't have a long wait but the queues of people waiting patiently just shows that it's worth the wait anyway. 100% recommended! Takeaway at its best, served by two of the loveliest people I've had the fortune to meet. The food is amazing, and if it's your first time (like it was ours) they'll ask how much spice you like and offer you a taste of what'll suit your taste. Prices are great for huge portions, the rice is delicious and you get loads of meat. When I asked what was gluten free they had one dish (it was so good though it didn't feel like a forced choice) but told us about the ordering system where they could make whatever I wanted gluten free to pick up! Very knowledgeable and understanding about their dishes and whats in them, I needn't've felt daft for asking. I can't wait to place my order and try everything else.

Really authentic Thai food cooked whilst you wait by a lovely couple. The always offer a sample of the daily specials and run a loyalty card scheme - cracking food well worth a visit to them in the Denton Bridge car park.

The wife thought she didn't like noodles, but Pad Thai changed that. We'd heard great things about this Little red van and noticed it was number 1 for Carlisle. So I met the wife from work and thought I'd treat her. We both had Special Pad Thai noodles. I like mine very spicy, she likes hers milder this wasn't a problem. Absolutely fantastic food at a very reasonable price. Enjoyed it so much recommend it to our son. He's off with his girlfriend to try it today (3 days after our first visit). We'll definitely be back and will recommend it to our other son as well. Great staff who apologised several times for us having to wait, but this wasn't a problem as the food was well worth it.

The PadThai is basically just a takeaway from a van set-up, but the food is glorious. They are happy to take phoned in orders in advance so that they can do larger orders if need be. Excellent and very tasty.

Visited for the first time last month and will definitely return. Delicious food at a great price and a good selection of dishes available for the size of the place. Lovely friendly staff, I would highly recommend it.

First visit to the Thai van after friends had give me good reviews.. went with my husband both not sure what to have the staff where great talked us through what they had and what they thought we would like had the chicken masaman and beef panang and chicken spring rolls and it was amazing will definitely be back great place.

First time at the van we go to Thailand every year the food was that good we thought we were back in Thailand.You can order your food in the morning go shopping and pick it up later before 1530.

Me and my mum visited the van after hearing a lot of great reviews and I can say it lived up to the reputation and more. Perfect food and great prices you can also ring ahead to avoid the wait because it is made to order. Also they have this fantastic deal for 5 large meal boxes for £20 preordered and you can freeze it and eat it at your leisure...this i will be doing!!! I would recommend it to all thai food lovers.

Without a doubt this has to be the best Thai food that I've had the pleasure of tasting. This little van had been recommended numerous times by friends and family so I thought I'd give it a try. I've now visited it several times throughout January and each time I've tasted something and thoroughly enjoyed it! Owners have went out of their way to be friendly and helpful, a true delight!

When me and my boyfriend first moved to Carlisle and checked trip advisor for some ideas of where to eat these guys were at the top and although we had expected some fancy restaurant to be top after trying their food we completely understood why! I'm vegetarian and the veggie pad Thai is delicious but I would 100% recommend pre ordering the veggie curry ( I think it was the massaman, the mild one anyway) , it's literally one of the best things I've ever eaten! My boyfriend isn't veggie and he loves every dish they do. They are more than happy to let you try samples of the curries before you choose as well, great customer service. I just wish they would open a restaurant so I could have it more often!

Hi Alan and May.Simon and Terry did the takeaway pick up run yesterdayMyself and Michelle had the veggie masseman curries yesterday for dinner (they didn't make it to the freezer) first time I've had one and enjoyed it. Tasted sweet but eaten with the spring rolls dipped in the sauce, nice. Looking forward to the veg jungle curry, which did make it to the freezer, next week. Also looking forward to the next vegetarian delights next time we're in Carlisle, or Simon does another run!!

We stopped to order some food due to the popular reviews on here. Firstly the male and his wife were absolutely lovely and very friendly but what gave us cause for concern was their management of hygiene.We were unclear what the curries tasted like and the male offered us the option to try these. We were given a spoon and he gave us tasters from 2 of the 3 special curries on offer. Unfortunately the spoon wasn't washed or changed with each sample. This put me completely off my food to the extent I couldn't eat it once we had walked away as I was concerned as to how many other people's saliva was present in the curries I was about to eat. The couple were very friendly and the price was really good value for money, however the other experiences let this down.
