Top quality Japanese food! We arrived as walk-ins and receive excellent service. The menu has such a great offering, the food arrived promptly and exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend a visit to this Gem of a Restaurant.

Tempura on point. Light batter and cooked perfectly. Mackerel nigiri very fresh and salmon with small lines of white fat. Stand out dishes

Nice restaurant but I find it frustrating that a service charge is assumed and added to the bill, it doesn’t say discretionary. It puts me off going there. This isn’t America and living in the UK is expensive.

Fantastic local Japanese Restaurant. I was blessed through my time at University with a few Japanese places in walking distance and I felt like when I moved back to Southend I'd been left high and dry. But I finally decided to visit Ozen with my partner last night and I was not let down. Their Tonkotsu Ramen is up there with some of the best I've had, and their range on the menu meant that pretty much all palettes are served too. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The fact they were consistently busy for the whole time we were there, at quite a late time slot is testament to how good this place is. To top it all off, it was very reasonably priced given the caliber of food on offer. A must visit!

Really loved coming here for sushi, had the yasai sushi, pumpkin starter and cucumber rolls and all were really good!! Friendly service and pretty restaurant. Best matcha i've had too!! Lots of vegetarian options.

The food is absolutely amazing here. I ate so much I could hardly move but wanted to try more. I would definitely go back again and again and agin

This restaurant came highly recommended and we weren't disappointed. Chicken skewers and the salmon sushi was amazing. We can recommend the grilled chicken ramen and the Yakisoba grilled chicken too! Despite the serving delay due to order mixup, the service was good.

The best quality sushi and sashimi in Southend easily I loved the selection on offer The only thing letting it down is the price but when you consider having to go to London for the same experience you've definitely saved money

Great vibe, good price and lovely food

Been to Ozen several times and I always enjoy the food everytime. My recent favourite is their duck ramen, it is perfection! I'm just so glad that we do not have to travel to London to have decent japanese food :)

We have been fans of Ozen since the beginning the food really is amazing, I was about to order some food to collect however the prices have gone up quite a bit! Everything has gone up on their menu. I know life is expensive but we might as well go to London, really disappointed and unfortunately we won’t be going back. Don’t offer London prices in westcliff!

Amazing food, really friendly staff but make sure no matter what you avoid the popular times. Waited an hour and a half before I got my main, party of 3.

What a find!! Me and my girlfriend really like sushi and Japanese food in general, normally when in westcliff we thought that we wouldn't be able to have it as much. Introducing Ozen a beautifully decorated restaurant with a menu that offers lots of variety. The food is wonderful I got the Tonkatsu ramen with duck it was a great portion and the taste was very good. If you think £40 per person is a lot to be honest we did order lots. The staff was very helpful and actively gave great recommendations. I just want to say thank you to the wonderful staff that look after us we will definitely be back very soon.

Beautiful restaurant, love the decor such as the blossom tree. The severs were knowledgable and attentive, and everything arrived super quickly. Delicious food, I definitely recommend the ozen roll and chicken gyozas, but I also had the dragon roll and tuna and cream cheese roll which were great. Ordered too much but the waitress kindly offered to wrap up our excess food, which I’m enjoying at home while I write this review. This restaurant is on a busy main road, but you walk in and it’s so peaceful. Give this place a try for sure, we’ll be returning very soon!

I've visited 3 times in the last 2 months. All 3 visits exceptional. 1 small table and 2 larger bookings. Authentic, delicious and great value. What more could you want. 🙏

Ozen is a lovely, authentic Japanese restaurant in the heart of Westcliff. I always enjoy eating here and the service is great! They have a lot of vegan options, all reasonably priced and extremely tasty. My favourite Japanese in Southend.

Amazing food. Very skilled chef who clearly understands taste and cares about the quality of the food. Have been several times and worth every penny. Always satisfied and happy to go back whenever we can. Best place to eat in Southend, certainly the best sushi we’ve ever had.

What a find. Was looking for a place to eat before a trip to the theatre. Didn’t book but fitted us in. Food was amazing and the staff were fantastic. We will be back bringing our family next time.

One of the best japanese restaurant I've been to. The gyu don beef was good, dragon roll was yum and the chicken karaage was also yummers!

Fresh food, nice atmosphere. Very authentic, not intimidating. Pickup only if you want to eat at home.

Such a shame because the food is actually good but the service is beyond horrendous. Me and my friend went for lunch and instantly regretted it when the chef started arguing with the delivery driver right in the middle of the restaurant. The argument went on for the whole time we were there trying to eat, but at least they had the courtesy to take the argument outside after ranting for about 10 mins inside. My fav part was at the end of the meal the waitress came over and asked if the food was good completely oblivious of the arguing that was still going outside the restaurant. No apology and just awful. If you do still go their sushi is amazing and chicken katsu is delicious, but just make sure you expect bad customer service. This was my second time going there as I like to give restaurants a second chance, but I am pleased to say that this was my last and final visit.

We absolutely love this place and have become regulars. The katsu is lovely and the chicken katsu sushi is the stand out for me. We have eaten both inside and now purchase the takeaways and all times we have bought food from here it’s been great. My favourite Japanese place I’ve been too Highly recommend, staff friendly too. A great addition to Westcliff

Extremely disappointed with the service. A table was booked for 5 and a £25 deposit was taken. On arriving the staff were informed that the table would be for 4 and we were sat down at a 4 seater table. When it came to paying the bill, the waiter informed us that we still have to pay the extra £5 even though they sat us down at a table for 4. The waiter eventually stated that the owner has the final say and they were not going to waive the £5. I think this sort of customer service is absolutely disgusting. It really puts me off coming to places like this regardless of how the food is. Avoid this place and go to a place that treats their customers with more respect. Please read the other reviews for this place as the disgusting way they treat their customers seems to be a recurring theme. As for the food, the vege sushi was dry and hard. There’s better selection and quality at Waitrose.

First time here. Excellent food and as you would expect, very well presented. Good choice on the menu but not too excessive. Service was carried out swiftly and friendly. We went early on a Sunday evening so fairly quiet but it probably has a great atmosphere on busy nights. Recommended.

Wow! What a find. Wasn’t expecting this level, style and quality of food on the London Rd. The minute you walk through the door you get a real sense of atmosphere. Service was impeccable- attentive but not pushy. And as for the food. What a great, traditional selection (and some with a slight twist for local ingredients). The menu covers nigiri, sashimi, maki, don buri, inside out rolls, Yakitori… and more common “sushi” rolls. We order a bunch and told them to just bring each of them out as they were ready. We had the tofu pouches (Omg), followed by the king salmon roll (double omg), then the grilled eel unagi (yum), the Ozen roll (my god!), the soft shell crab salad, the yakitori chicken on skewers, and then we ordered some more tofu pouches. All washed down with sake for me and a non alcoholic Asahi . Finished off with the custard dorayaki. Food was on another level. We usually drive all the way out to Ingestone to get our Japanese food fix. But no more. We have Ozen on our doorstep, price is cheaper and portion size - especially the rolls are bigger. Will become a regular of Ozen. And if you like quality, well presented and a wide range of traditional and with a twist style food - you should try Ozen. Fabulous

Lovely bijou spot for delicious food. Clean and pretty. the dorayaki pancakes are excellent. I really enjoy the personal touches in the decor, like the cats.

The food is brilliant here. Visited twice now and I'll definitely be going back many more times. I'd highly recommend if you want authentic Japanese food. Service is really good, the staff are attentive & friendly.

This is my first time for this restaurant. I have seen very good reviews but I need to give my real feeling in my review. My partner and I ordered salmon roll, tonkatsu ramen with pork ane unagi don. The roll was fine, nice and tasty. However, our main meals were not good enough. Tonkatsu ramen was badish, ginger was stale, pork not roasted properly and broth seems done on a instant rush. And I found lemongrass in it... Noodles we're alright but the rest was soggy. Unagi don was fail as the unagi was not fresh, tasted like it was been frozen and defrosted many times. About services, the lady at the bar was nice but another man who not wear glasses seemed rush with everything. He asked have you finished after I just put my cutlery down one second I swear. Sorry to give you this review but we are very disappointed.

Totally and utterly dissatisfied with their customer service. Booked in for a same day reservation on a Saturday early evening. Paid a £30 deposit and was looking forward to going for a family meal. Due to circumstances outside of my control, within 2 hours of making the reservation I had to cancel. I called to do so as soon as I knew I could not attend. I was confused to see that I had still been charged the £30 deposit. When I called a week later to query, I was told it was non-refundable. This was not made clear to me at the time of booking or cancelling. When I said that this policy was not clear they hung up on me and I have not been able to get back through to them. I have emailed and still nothing. Such a shame, as when we have ordered takeaway in the past we’ve always been happy with the food.

The best sushi and ramen in town and an amazing atmosphere. The staff are absolutely lovely and every single time we come to this hidden gem the experience is 10/10.

Food was lovely, some of the waiting staff seemed a little distracted and though drinks were ready quickly it took longer than necessary to run them over. The place goes from empty at 5:25pm to open at 5:30pm and almost at capacity by 5:45pm so I can appreciate it may have been a little busy all at once. We were a booking for 3 (2 adults and a toddler). They happily popped a kids seat on a chair added to the side of the table. One of those Chicco foldable ones which was familiar to my son but the straps really do need a clean. Where it was a table built for only two, tiny hands were able to reach everything everywhere, and my sons high chair was clearly in a route for the servers to access other tables. It’s somewhat unfortunate as I felt a bit like an after thought, even though we’d booked well in advance and notified at the point of booking. Lovely overall though. Will be back.

Lovely restaurant. Nice setting, friendly staff, decent menu. We had their Ramen and their Teriyaki Salmon. Asked for the Salmon not to be too dry and burnt like some places do and the Salmon was suitably cooked. Soft shell crab has chilli mayonnaise so if you don’t like spice, let them know. They were also great with our young kids. Free residential parking on Cotswold Road

A well presented restaurant with pleasant, friendly and helpful staff. We had a lovely lunch here and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. There was a great selection on the menu and all of the food we ordered was delicious. I look forward to going back and trying more of the menu.

The best sushi place in Southend !

Visited this restaurant on recommendation from a friend, knowing we love asian and japanese food. The menu is vast and all the food sounded delicious. We opted for a selection of starters and a Ramen each and although dubious of the colour of the Ramen, not the colour we expected for a beef ramen, the ramen hit the spot and blew us away, forget Wagamama, this is the place for a Ramen (Ozen Ramen ordered from Menu). I would say the area of improvement for this restaurant is a little more care taken by having more than one waiting staff as I would have loved to have the menu explained to me as someone knew to sushi and maybe a couple of dishes picked out or recommended for me. This just isnt possible when you have just the one waiter working (as was the case when we visited), he was doing his best but gosh does this place get busy. We visited at 12:10, surprised to see the sign on the door saying closed as we had booked for 12:00. We nearly walked away however I decided to try the door and asked are you open' much to the surprise of the waiter who I think had clearly forgotten to turn the closed sign over. Other than these few issues, this place delivered on the food and the service as best as one person can give so I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to others.

We went this evening, we had gyosas and chicken skewers as starters, my partner had a ramen and I had chicken katsu as mains plus desserts. It was all very delicious plus a nice service. We ll be back

Outstanding restaurant! Amazing food with great staff who knew what they were doing and always on top of cleanliness and making sure customers were enjoying their food and atmosphere. A great addition to the Southend area and I'd definitely recommend if you love sushi and Japanese food!

Just wow!!! My partner and I shared two Donburis (salmon and unagi) as well as vegetable gyoza starter and the soft shell crab tempura, everything was wonderful!!! All tasted very fresh and the wait time was very short, especially given there was not an empty table during the 40-50 minutes we spent there. Looking forward to returning soon to try some different dishes!!!

I have to say, this was some of the nicest food I have tasted in a while! The food was hot, fresh and full of flavour!! The service was incredibly friendly, accommodating and attentive but in no way overbearing!! The restaurant is small, but I think this really helps to add the atmosphere!! I would strongly advise booking a table in advance otherwise you may not get a seat! I will be coming back here! And I will be recommending it to my my friends and family!!

Love it. Fresh , clean , tasty Japanese. Really nice staff, really good quick service. The take away is equally as good . Would highly recommend both a visit to restaurant and their take away.

Having moved to Leigh from London 5 years ago… this is the sushi & sashimi grade we have been waiting for! With Otoro & Unagi on the menu, fresh fish & most importantly the rice is perfect … looking forward to ordering again!

Lovely food. Had to rush as they were meant to close at 2.30pm, as they have a break before dinner. Food was lovely apart from the Yakotari, tasted like jelly and cold. But great service.

Food was great as well as the costumer service. The staff made sure that we were satisfied with the food served. Very quick service as well. The only room for improvement might be that the tables although visibly clean, they were so sticky? Might be with the cleaning products they used or the table itself, not sure. Overall though, good Japanese food.

Didn’t enjoy my trip here.. food was very average.. staff not very friendly (was served a beer in a hot glass, asked politely for a cold glass and the waiter was not happy). Personally, wouldn’t go back.

Authentic japanese food, as it should be!

Second time here and this place is absolutely next level! The staff are amazing; really friendly and ridiculously efficient. The food is to die for. I recommend booking else you might not get in. I LOVE this place!!!

Booked a table for 7:30 that evening for my son's 21st birthday. Arrived on the dot to be told that they had it down as 7pm so had let someone else have the table. Very unhelpful and a disappointment but got a late table at the Pearl Dragon instead and who went out of their way to fit us in and we ended up having a great evening. Fantastic and friendly service from them and great food too..... Don't think I will bother with Ozen any more.

Me and my many friends booked a table of 8, we enjoyed very much , food was excellent and service was outstanding , although there needs to be more staff to upkeep the demand of service.

Went in at dinner time. I had chicken dumplings as a starter and for a main I had chicken teriyaki with noodles, very good food. You could tell waiter Jon has been doing this for a while, great customer service. Well done 👍🏽

Excellent food and a lovely restaurant

I visited this place a couple of months ago... well I attempted to. I happened upon it walking past one Saturday late afternoon, and could see them preparing. The guy saw me looking in the window and told me they are opening in half an hour so I said I would come back, and dossed about London Road for 30 minutes. When I returned, I was refused entry because I was dining alone! I challenged it, showing that no such policy is displayed on their shop front, menu, or website, and also asked why he didn't tell me when I was looking half an hour ago! Apparently something to do with it being busy on a Saturday night, but they had literally just opened and was obviously empty. What's funny is I had planned to buy one of everything on the menu, and when I passed on my way back after the EXQUISITE meal I had from the Mayflower thai restaurant down the road instead, there were still barely any diners! We love Japanese food and we probably would have been regular customers for life, but I won't even look in the window now after such horrible treatment. I do hope whoever runs this place sees this review and sorts out their front of house staff.
