Looked delicious (and previously had take away which was very good) but not made to feel welcome at all. The customer was certainly not put first and I felt extremely uncomfortable so I just paid for food I couldn’t eat and left.

I popped in a month or so ago, for a quick lunch on the hoof. I went for the quiche and salad, that came with homemade coleslaw that was delicious. All very fresh and the service was affable, low key and polite (greatly enjoyed the Prince soundtrack playing in the background and reminiscing about the artist, with the very enthusiastic Prince fan who was also my waiter). The shop surrounding the diners is quirky, if possibly a bit behind my financial budget and the fresh bread they sold looked great. Will be back!

Owens is a nice deli/food store with a cafe attached. I have bought bread there in the past and was pleased to discover the cafe has vegan cake and non dairy milk so went there with friends for tea and cake. It’s not cheap so I was pretty shocked to see how thin the slice of cake was - see photo - as were my friends. I raised this with the waiter (the one with glasses) who seemed uninterested and when I asked him to mention this issue to the manager he replied rather rudely: ‘I’m not speaking to anyone’. I replied that I would then do so and asked to speak to the manager who came over and explained that the cakes arrived with the slices marked or something like that. Well just ask them to make the slices a reasonable size instead of the ridiculously tiny portions! The manager was polite and brought out a tiny slice to compensate. That was fine...but really Owens. You can do better than this. I hope the first waiter is given customer training or asked to work in the storeroom away from customers in future.

Went back to Owens on Sunday after some time in the hope of them having changed the staff, a welcome and a smile go a long way sadly only one of the staff seemed capable of a welcome. Full breakfast was ordered but I was not happy with the sausages and bacon they seemed almost raw the sausage being very pink inside and the bacon looked as if it had only seen a pan or grill very briefly, these meat items even tasted uncooked. I consider these criticisms could easily be put right. I also had to ask again for the music to be turned down as I like to be able to have a conversation without having to shout.

The first thing to point out for those of you that haven't been to Owens Cafe is that Owens food store is connected to it and indeed there is open access between the two. Most of the things on the Menu are listed as organic, good so far, but if you go during the week you cannot get certain things on the Menu. Sausages for one, even though they are sold as a raw product in store you cannot get cooked sausages as part of your breakfast. Bacon Yes, Sausages No. They also don't offer gluten free bread. Again, its sold in-house but not available for breakfast. I can't really fathom this out. I went during half term week and saw and heard at least two other people ask for sausages only to be rebuffed. I wish the lack of availability of breakfast items was my only complaint. Sadly not. The items that were available were cooked, and I use the term cooked loosely, with no skill or understanding whatsoever. My wife and I both had poached eggs. If you expect soft runny yolks then you'll be disappointed. Solid throughout. Like a 5 minute hardboiled egg. The term 'toast' would suggest that maybe the bread that accompanies your overdone eggs has at some point in the not too distant past been tucked into a toaster of some description and been exposed to heat. Not a chance. Limp and more like slightly warmed bread. No colour on it at all. The coffee, when it arrived was tepid and weak. A couple of youngsters running the place who appeared completely disinterested and working at the same slow pace regardless of the amount of demand that they had. This place sells itself as a boutique Cafe all wholesome and Organic. I think you'd be better off trying the greasy spoon a few doors away. Less pretentious, cheaper, better food and service.

I went to Owen’s for lunch with part of the family a few days before Christmas. It was actually my second visit, so now it’s high time to write a review. The cute organic food store and deli is now coupled with a café-restaurant, also organic, where we once had a delicious breakfast. This time it was for lunch and we were just as satisfied. The salads were unbeatable - fresh and inventive -, but the quiche was also very tasty. I would have liked to try the soup of the day, which sounded delicious, but eventually I was tempted by a chocolate and cardamom cake, which was finished very quickly! The bakewell and apple tarts also disappeared before I had a chance to try them! The cloudy apple juice was delightful, as were the elderflower drink, the mochas, coffees, etc.All authentic home-made food - in fact, the chef is visible at the back of the shop and can be congratulated in person, when he doesn’t come over to greet the customers, as we saw that he did!The menu is always different, so you will find variations that we didn’t see.Well done, Owen’s. We can’t wait to go back.

I have been to Owen's many, many times. The decor is really pleasant, the coffee is great and the service ok (but not always the friendliest!).The food is fairly good - the Paninis are tasty, the quiche usually very nice but the salads are often bland and the burger is very disappointing - I was itching to give some constructive feedback back after making the mistake of ordering said burger but was loathe to offend! This is a great cafe with lots of potential...I do think the staff need to be a little more welcoming and the food could be much better. I strongly recommend the chef take a trip to Banner's to find out how a burger and chips should taste!

I had seen that previous reviewers had organised afternoon tea through Simon the owner. So I dropped him an email and sorted, really easy - they actually have a afternoon tea menu, although I didn't see it on the website. Excellent price and staff really lovely. We had masses of sandwiches, lovely scones, and about four different types of cake. We actually couldn't eat all of it and the staff were nice enough to give us boxes to take home. We stayed in the neighborhood for a couple of weeks and (unfortunately) waited until the end to try Owens. It was crazy busy and we had to share a teeny tiny table because many singles were camped out at the 4-tops with their computers. We asked Simon at Owens cafe to rustle up a little afternoon tea that would accommodate different diets from normal to Gluten free and dairy free and he really came up with the goods! The sandwiches were full of exciting flavours and the gluten free rice cake toppings were a delight. But the cakes were outstanding ! You could certainly not tell the difference between the gluten free and other cakes in both appearance or taste. They were both light, full of flavour and delicious and rivalled any top London afternoon tea.The atmosphere in Owens was relaxing with pleasant background music and attentive staff who couldn't do enough for us keeping the teas and coffees flowing freely. The tea was served in sweet little tea pots covered in home made tea cosies and poured into some pretty cups and saucers. This cafe opened on 15 December 2013 and was immediately quite busy - probably because the organic food shop next door was already well known to local people. The food is excellent, the coffee well above average and - surprisingly - the prices are very reasonable for this area. £2 for a latte and £4.95 for a Panini to eat in (they also do takeaway). They do a healthy breakfast, a soup of the day and a range of salads, rolls, ciabattas and paninis and a daily special for lunch. Also nice cakes (maybe not quite so healthy) and organic wines and beers. You can normally park outside, and the 102 and 299 buses stop outside or it is a short walk from Bounds Green tube. There are other art, craft and music shops in this small parade people may find interesting.
