We'd eaten here on several occasions in the past when the restaurant was known by another name. Unfortunately, it's not as good as we found previously and there are plenty of other options to choose from. We found the food to be quite bland and under seasoned.

We came here for some dinner in-between the two Harry Potter & Cursed Child plays. We took our chances amounts the sea of Chinese restaurants available and opted for this one. We're not experts on Chinese food, but to our palets it was very tasty. We had a set menu that was 3 courses that included a large selection of starters, a large crispy fried duck and a good selection of mains. Service was quick and the establishment was clean and well presented. There were a fair few Chinese patrons, which to my mind bodes well. The only very minor point is that it wouldn't do any harm if the staff were friendlier. A smile goes a long way. In the sea of Chinese restaurants available, we left happy with our choice.

Had a hankering for dim sum and so thought we’d try this restaurant. Many of the menus are very similar in Chinatown with trends coming and going. We noticed a growth in hot pot restaurants. We were taken upstairs as downstairs was filling up. We had jasmine tea to drink and ticked off our dim sum selection as well as ordering a hot and sour soup; won ton soup and a three meat on rice to share. The soups arrived together with the cold dim sum of chickens feet (boneless) in a Thai sauce and the duck tongues in lemon grass. We had pork and prawn dumplings, beef tripe in black bean and 2 kinds of cheung fun. The devious were tasty and portions large. The food was complemented by good service of the same sort of standard as most of the restaurants. The bill was about £45 and we definitely overordered.

My first experience of eating in China Town - the extensive menu (I was hankering for Dim Sum) drew me in.Service was good enough - the waitress had charm and I never felt rushed.Generous portions of food and I was feeling greedy so had the Prawns and chive dumplings, Barbecued roast pork buns and the Deep fried sesame crispy prawn.Tasty and inexpensive at ~£3.50 a dish.

We'd eaten in this restaurant a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it but this time we were disapointed. The restaurant is scruffy in terms of decor and furnishings and was more like a cafe or canteen than a restaurant. I had hot and sour soup which was very good and we then had main courses which were huge but of average quality and lukewarm which is not acceptable. Not a pleasant dining experience and poor value for money.

Fantastic dim sum, recommended by a friend and it didn't disappoint. We will be back soon. The roast duck coming out to the locals also looked amazing, that will be next for us!! Don’t quite understand some of the negative reviews, it’s not a tourist trap to have crispy duck. It’s full of locals which I think is always a good sign. Staff very friendly and wanting to give advice on what dim sum to order. £35 for 3 drinks, 6 dishes and included tip - great value too!

We like to try the different restaurants in china town and most places here the staff aren't very friendly, this one included, however they aren't the worst. You do get the feeling they want you out the restaurant as quickly as possible. However the pricing and the food quality here is actually very good, we enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised with the bill as well. The portions are also very good and the food gets served nice and hot, although i like to try new restaurants in china town i would happily return to this one.

Group of 6. Didn't feel welcome. Some had to wait way too long for their food. Waitress's answers were borderline condecending/rude. Indecipherable, handscribbled bill. Very good and rich set menu for 20 pounds per person. We wanted crispy peking duck which was included, but first got a plate with different nice tasters of chinese dishes. Then got about three pancakes each full with duck and garnish - good enough. And after that two rich hot dishes. Fast and accurate service, but a little bit too eager to get us to finish the plates and start with the next section of the set menu. Probably because they wanted in new customers.

Noi eravamo in quattro, 4 persone adulte. ASL ci sei in UK?NON andateci.

We met some Chinese friends and our party was herded into a corner and the space accorded to us was quite minimal, but this small factor was made up for by the glorious food. The restaurant itself is quite small and its' essential to book overwise you may have to queue for a long, long time.we ended up with crispy duck, char sui pork, several items of dim sum, rice, vegetables, tea & beer and the table wasn't nearly big enough !. The taste & quality of the food was exemplary, with the right mix of spice, sweet, colour & flavour. Ended up staying for almost 2 hours (chatting, eating, drinking, chatting) and were given gratis, 3 delectable pastries (popular in Hong Kong) with char sui inside them. They were divine!Won't hesitate to visit again and we recommend you do too.

Yet another ordinary Chinese restaurant for western people who are not familiar with Chinese foods. Had some duck and crispy pork on the rice but nothing to rave about!! The sauce for the duck and pork was not very nice and the rice was swimming in this sauce. Supposed to be a duck specialist but the quality of the duck was ordinary!! Also had some hot & sour soup but the taste was kind of flat. No deep taste to it so this was ordinary as well. If the Goldmine is say 100/100 then this place for duck is around 60/100. Service was typical Chinese!! Speak rapidly and take order in 2-3 seconds kind of thing!! You know what I mean!!!

Oversea is just one fish in the veritable sea of Chinese restaurants in each side of Gerrard Street. It's neither particularly big, nor particularly flashy, but, judging by our visit here this Sunday lunchtime, serves an eclectic range of dishes at reasonable prices. Indeed so eclectic was the menu we had just discovered a whole new section at the front of photographed specialities including the incongruously named mixed offal when the waiter came to take our order. Deciding to give barbecued meats such as octopus and pig organ (I imagined the octopus playing a JS Bach fugue using all its tentacles) or even barbecued pork, we chose shredded chicken rice as a main for our daughter. This was a huge plate of rice and quite a steal at £6.60. In fact there was more than enough rice to accompany my main of beef brisket hot pot which contained large slightly fatty chunks of meat in a broth with lettuce. My wife chose barbecued pork with rice. We preceded these with prawn crackers (slightly bland), chicken satay (in an unnecessarily thick sauce) and hot and sour soup (exceptional value at £3.50). There was a dim sum menu which seemed popular at lunchtime.

A safe bet in Chinatown for good food at very good prices. We came here after giving up on the long queues for another restaurant in the area, very hungry but wanting to try somewhere new. We hadn't researched it and just took a chance, and have to say with low expectations. The decoration isn't particularly atmospheric and lacks finesse, but the portions were generous and delicious, lacking the oily feeling you get with some Chinese food.

We orders several Chinese dishes like stir fried spinach and it was terribly sweet (like they added a lot of sugar) with a strong smell of soil (if you get me).The eggplant claypot is just a mix of eggplant and other random veggies thrown in, totally lacking the salted fish fragrance that it is supposed to have. The steamed fish is nice though, although tao tao ju's steamed fish felt more tender. The pipa tofu is okay too. Lastly, the service staff accidentally dropped a dirtied spoon and it brushed against my coat. He must have noticed it but didn't even apologise and just left it like nothing happened. Haha never going back again. Mediocre food coupled with staff that didn't bother apologising after dirtying my coat. Mind you, there was a lot of sauce on it.

Massive sign above the door saying 'specialists in crispy duck' was a bonus too.Don't be fooled!Starter had half decent prawn toast and chicken satay but the rest was poor. Spring rolls were bland and weepy, the chilli sauce tasted as though it was thinned with vinegar and the ribs were awful.Crispy duck was the next course. Average course for those who claim to be specialists! Probably the best part of the meal but would be better off getting one in from Tesco!Main course left us disappointed as well, especially the very grey looking rice. None of the courses were that hot (temperature) either which isn't encouraging.Won't be returning, we were glad to leave! Even my fortune cookie was slightly burnt!

I was very annoyed about what happened today lunchtime, I am so hungry and decided to eat @ this place. It is my first time to eat in the restaurant alone because I always eat with my family.I went inside the restaurant and told the staff Table for one. Then he check the table and he said to me to go upstairs first floor, but before I place I order I went to toilet and didn't expect that time the toilet is dirty the floor is full of used toilet roll even the handle of the faucet is grimy but I don't want to ruin my day,I went to the table (the table is for two)but because I am alone the staff told me to sit there.after I place my food orders,I was shocked because One guy just came and the staff told him to sit on my table. The table is not big and I a costumer I want to enjoy my food.I understand if no available table but at that time three available table + chairs is vacant. We ask the staff if I can move but he said the manager said that we need to share the table. I am planning to order rice and more food because I am so hungry but decided not my appetite was gone. They haven't say sorry or apologies or explain why they need to squeeze the people in my small table but instead they acting proud.Very unprofessional!!They need to set up table one,two and etc.And need to respect the costumer privacy..The food is totally from microwave not happy at all, they ruin my day. It's better to eat in McDonald.

Having tried a much better known restaurant just down the street and been disappointed, we decided to try here on the basis that they would be working harder to compete. The price is good and the food much better than it's close well known neighbour. Service was pretty good as well. Great for a quick tasty meal.

Stopping nearby for a couple of days and just fancied a Good Friday Chinese meal. The sizzling beef in black bean sauce was great. We tried to order a spicy fried rice without egg and ended up with a spicy Singapore rice without egg but with chicken, which my wife hates and prawns which I'm not keen on. The chips were ok but tasted like the oil had been used for quite a while. However the worst of all was the sweet and sour vegetables which were shockingly bad. A bit of pepper, a bit of onion, a tiny bit of sweetcorn but to be honest it was 90% carrot. As for the sauce it was neither sweet nor sour. It was the consistency of water, bright red and totally flavourless.Like some others I am amazed by the totally glowing comments on here but maybe us country folks get spoilt by higher culinary standards than city slickers. Or it could just be this is an average at best Chinese restaurant and takeaway and not representative of the best London or even Stratford has to offer! It's ok and the price is reasonable hence three stars but be careful what you order so another star lost.

I needed a quick meal and this place fitted the bill nicely.Under the rice section in the menu they offer either 2 or 3 meats with rice which together with chicken spring rolls came to just over £10 and they don,t sting you for service.Excellent value, good standard food with reasonable size portions.

Quick girly lunch in Chinatown before a shopping spree. We had a mixed fried noodle dish with prawns, very tasty and big sized prawns in the noodles, followed by a mixed 2 meat dish of roast duck and char siew which unfortunately came late as we have nearly finished all our dishes. We also ordered a plate of Chinese vegetable ( Kai -Lan ) cooked in ginger and garlic sauce which was very tasty. Service friendly but had to remind them of our meat dish as it took a long time to arrive. Will visit again as prices were very reasonable for Soho locality.

Very tasty mixture of dim sum, glutinous lotus rice and roast duck yesterday. Quick service on the second floor and priced very reasonably.

We arrived for brunch on Saturday and were shown upstairs to a second dining area as downstairs was quite busy. (Someone else said it was a tiny restaurant in their review, but don't be fooled, there is more seating on upper floors). The dim sum is tasty and very good value for money. We chose five dishes, each of which had three or four pieces to a plate, a soft drink and chinese tea. Our choices were: crystal prawn dumplings, pork seafood mushroom dumplings, prawn with chive dumplings, grilled pork dumplings & shark's fin and crab meat dumplings. All were very tasty, but the latter dish was our favourite as it was very well seasoned with a delicate herb flavour. The bill was less than £20 which is pretty good for central London.

Surprised with many favorable reviews but we had one mediocre and one awful dish. Squid were rubbery, but that sometimes happens, but the barbecued chicken, pork and duck dish was far too fatty and bones - see image of the trimmings.

We walked in and were able to get a table for 4 just before it got full. Very lucky. The food was delicious. Prawn toast was cooked to perfection and the Singapore vermicelli was fantastic. All the food ordered arrived quickly and service was good. Prices were very reasonable for the speed and quality. Would definitely return next time we're in the area.

Having looked up and down china town craving some Dim Sum we stumbled upon this little gem. Fair prices for amazing food. It is extremely small so you may have to wait for a table. But service is good and food delicious. Would definitely visit again. I took photos after we had started eating but portions are a good size.

The only dimsum which has legitimate, properly pickled vegetables which go so well with Dim Sum. The Dim Sum itself is standard, nothing special nor much to complain about either.

I ordered the 3 roast meats with noodles (in soup) and a plate of gai lan (bit like broccoli) with garlic. It came out in a flash and was very good. The meat was a little fatty (something that would have put me off in my younger days) but was moist and crispy where it should've been. Surprisingly, they give a good portion of noodle - usually I am left hungry but this was a really generous portion. The vegetables were really good too - crisp and not overcooked. I ate everything. I asked for a water and got a pint of boiling water (in a pint glass) which sealed the deal for me (that's how I drink it at home). I will definitely go again.I used to go to Wan Chai on the corner but it's shut down - this is my new favourite.Service is brisk, as usual at these places. Tad expensive (but the same as everywhere else in Chinatown)

Had family celebration here for 6 people. just turn up and wait to be seated, lucky not to have a long wait when we visited. Service Ok, didn't have to wait long for food. Portions huge and we ended up leaving a lot of it, even too much to take back in 'doggy bags'. But hit and miss with some dishes ok, not fantastic, and others being very glutinous and tasteless or grissly. If you're having side dishes share them rather than one each and two different starters might be better than one starter and then a main meal. 5 starters, 6 mains, 3 side dishes, 2 bottles of wine and 4 pints beer totalled £210, very good value. You get what you pay for though!

Spoilt for choice in chinatown, this restaurant is just another brick in the wall of poor quality, overpriced chinese food in the area.Order - Set Meal for 3Starters - Soup and DuckSoup thick, loaded with cornstarch rather than any flavourDuck - arguably the best dish of our meal, but it doesnt say muchMains - S&S Pork - battered pork with bog standard sauce, nothing specialKing Prawns in Ginger and Lemon - Prawns were tender and well sized, just a shame there were no more than 5 of themSczheuan Chicken - Absolutely tastelessBeef in Black Bean - Again, very little taste. Beef was tender but sauce lacked punchOverall, a very average-poor, tasteless meal. Good for soaking up alcohol after a few drinks when tastebuds are numbed. Otherwise, avoid.

Came here for takeout food for dinner on 1/1/17. Restaurant was pretty busy and the man in front asked what I wanted. Told him I wanted takeout. Ordered half a roast duck, 1/2 lb of roast pork and 1/2 of char siu and some white rice. Was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Food was good.

Really difficult to pick a restaurant in Gerrard st - one is spoilt for choice. Having said that, i haven't really had a bad experience there either. The Oversea has much to recommend it. It is good value, the barbecued meat seen in the window is delicious, and the service was good enough for a midrange restaurant. We had a standard chicken and straw mushroom soup, and a duck and shredded scallop soup - a new one on me - then barbecued duck, soy chicken, char sui and belly pork. The decor is down at heel, but I come to these places for the food.

London's Chinatown has long ago ceased to be the place to go if you want the best in Chinese cuisine. It is however London's epicentre of dismal, rude and incompetent service. If you want to sample mediocre food with the lowest levels of service head on towards Oversea Chinese restaurant in London's Chinatown. We were ushered to the upstairs portion of the restaurant. On arrival upstairs the waiters seemed untroubled by our presence or our request for a table. When we were finally seated one of the waiters was kind enough to fling some menus at us. No one was available to take our order as the waiters were attending to more pressing matters on their phones. When the food arrived our order was incomplete, two main courses items were missing and no explanation was given as to the omission. It was impossible for us to check if the missing items had been removed from the bill as it was exclusively in Chinese and offered no itemised list of our order. We did however notice that the bill was stamped "service not included", providing the restaurant with the opportunity to remind you not to expect any form of service from its waiting staff. It would have been preferable to have been informed of this on entry rather than on exit.

Terrible customer service and horrible food! They destroyed the crispy duck by covering it with some sweet souce, it was a soggy mess at the end! Duck skin was chewy, soft and disgusting after that! Waiters don't have any manners, they don't know how to do customer service. Most of their main dishes don't come with rice or noodles, they just bring you the dish expecting you to eat it that way! They don't even tell you this when you order, when I asked them whether it's with rice or noodles waiter's answer was a simple no, he didn't even offer me to buy extra rice or noodles. Rude and unfriendly service, poor service standards. Everything's overpriced here. They charge £13 for few pieces of duck with some onion and capsicum covered in some sweet gross souce! Not recommended, there're other nice Chinese restaurants nearby! Avoid this place!

The food was fantastic, but the service was awful but the service was lacking. The waitress seemed handling too many tables, so we had to ask several times for water, chopsticks. Despite the great food, the inattentive service made the experience less enjoyable.

Phoned at 11.55am yesterday to check availability for lunch on the same day .I was informed they could accommodate a table for two at midday (so 5 minutes away ) I politely said we would need a little time to get there and would arrive in less than 30 mins but I was informed if I couldn’t get there within 15 minutes I could not have the table !!I have never experienced anything quite like it and absolutely appalling customer service !Having since read many of the poor reviews they obviously did us a favour and we ended up enjoying a fabulous lunch at the OWO !Hospitality is supposed to be about accommodating guests requests the best way possible but not here!!They obviously don’t want or need the business and I certainly won’t ever be spending my hard earned money at any Peninsular Hotel if this is the way they treat there customers !!! Good day !
