One of the finest steak restaurants locally and also great other food too , so sad to see it closed now. To me it's always been there (a little like Roomes), a landmark restaurant where the waiters were there for years, felt like a family reunion when we went! Really miss it! Just hope someone opens another great Greek and steak place there soon!

Very good food and a vast menu. Overpriced and I did not like the idea of choosing your meal and then having to pay for the vegetables on top. The vegetables were in the region of £3 a portion so chips. peas, mushrooms and green beans virtually double the price of the main course

My Family comes here often for all family meals, and we're made to feel welcome every time. The Staff are friendly and so helpful, they make you feel like you are part of their family. Food is delicious and the portions are more than hearty! Fantastic food with a great service.

Food and portion size is hard to beat and service is great

We visited here on Saturday night as part of my Birthday Celebrations, there were 4 of us. The food was absolutely amazing, probably the best steak I have ever eaten. The staff were really lovely and constantly made sure we were ok. Bill come to just under £200 which I don't think is bad as we all had starters, mains, 2 desserts, 2 bottles of Prosecco and beers.

Had a lovely meal here last night. Staff were friendly. Fitted us in even though it was packed. I'd recommend you book. Food was tasty and service was good. Was a bit pricey as you have to pay for the sides (chips, veg) separately from the mains. Overall lovely night

My wife and I turned up on Saturday at 7.15 and they told us you have till 8.30 so we were seated loads of waiters I had skallops wrapped in bacon no taste at all the wife had pate which was nice main was kleftico it was lamb on rice no Mediterranean veg not cooked on parchment paper it was awful I can't tell what the wife had so bad the waiters didn't even ask if we were enjoying the mealWe have been to numerous Greek isles and they would all be appalled by what was served upPlease do not go it will be a total disappointed

We have been eating at The Othello Taverna for at least 35 years and we still enjoy it! The food is lovely and you are always made very welcome. Please don’t change Othello. We like you just the way you are.

Get to know the waiters. Invest a bit of time with them and the service will be great. It gets a bit pricey with the wine.

Visited last week with my partner and in-laws. We could not fault it the food was beautiful and the service was the perfect amount of professional and friendly that we were looking for we all agreed that this is our new favourite place to go and we will be back. Thank you

Service was good as was the food. Ambience was perfect for a family meal, we could all hear each other and not too rowdy. Menu had a good selection to cater for pretty much all tastes which we really liked (although not great selection for vegetarians) and portion sizes were good. The music selection was a real hit for those of the party who remembered the 80s and not too loud that we couldn’t hear each other. Some of the dishes were a touch on the pricey side for what they were, but not extortionate - would go back!

Very nice place. Not the most modern but feel it is trying to attract a certain age group. The service was good and the portions were reasonable (I have a large appetite) It also closes early !!!

I hadn't been to this restaurant before and was looking to book for 8 people, but I took a chance even though I had only noticed it from sitting opposite while having a drink at Cafe Nero! I looked at the menu, thought it sounded ok and booked! Thankfully we all really enjoyed it! It was obvious that most people there were regulars and I could understand why. The food was excellent, the quantities more than ample and the service very friendly. It was quite noisy with talking, but that was because everyone seemed so happy! I also found the bill to be reasonable for such a nice restaurant. I will be going there again...

Small but popular traditional greek restaurant. Starters around 5-7 quid and mains around 12-20 quid plus if you have steak. Very generous portion sizes. Scallops lovely. Skate lovely. Huge piece of it. And lamb Kleftico fell of the bone. 4 of us 2 courses plus two bottles of house red came in at 35 quid a head and i was stuffed.

Always a warm welcome, quality food, have never had a bad visit. Will always come here for a special night out

My husband and our family have been enjoying the fabulous food for nearly 35 years now! We have never been disappointed with the quality of food and high standard of service and look forward to another 35 years 😊

Had a family meal here and probably will not return. Avoid the scampi as it was gritty and black and made me feel nauseous. The service was hit and miss as some of the waiters made us feel uncomfortable with hanging around our table and staring and asking if we were finished while some of us were eating?Felt rushed and a bit sick so doubt we’ll be back.

Visited for Monday evening dinner Warmly welcomed by both duty staff .I mentioned that I had not visited for over 20 years but soon wished that I had. Greek bread immediately placed on our table.I am told the bread was delicious but glad I did not indulge when I saw the size of our food portions.Shared a perfect calamari with my wife then settled for a beef fillet dish with rice and mushrooms and a hint of brandy with a side of courgettes in batter which is when I regretted the calamari as delicious as it was I just could not finish the portions. My wife settled for perfectly grilled lamb chops which she told the waiter were the best she had ever tasted.. The usual banter with the Spanish waiter who wanted to practice his Italian when told my wife was from lNaples.. The family stated that they thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and wish to visit again shortly. Atmosphere and prices were reasonable and would recommend you visit soon. All the old fifties music with Dean Martin, Tony Bennett and others was most acceptable and not intrusive although I had to sing some of the Italian ones. As an aside my wife was given two of her chops and some salad in a box to take home. The homeless man sitting outside Upminster Station was most grateful that he received an unexpected supper.Atmosphere and prices most acceptable and I would recommend a visit Looking forward to a return visit.

The steaks here are lovely. Everything was spot on. Going in there is like a throwback to the 80's but it doesnt matter because the food is great. If it was renovated would be 5 stars for me. Nicest steak I've had locally for quite some time.

Othello’s is a well-established, family owned, Greek restaurant in the centre of Upminster where I have had a number of enjoyable meals over the years. The interior is clean and well-presented although some would perhaps describe it as a little old-fashioned, however, this doesn’t bother me at all – in fact, I probably prefer it to some modern restaurants that tend to look rather bland and indistinguishable from each other. There was a good selection of Greek and English dishes on the menu and prices are reasonable. Service was friendly and efficient, and our food was tasty and well-cooked. The restaurant is about a 3- minute walk from Upminster station and although is doesn’t have its own car park there is a public car park nearby and it is possible to park in the side streets in the evening. Overall, we had an enjoyable meal and it is likely that we will return to Othello’s in the future.

Ok but wouldn't go back, brother and sister was driving but they only had 2 bottles of alcohol free lager, meal was not as good as I'd been told although waiter service was fine. Tried it but a no from me.

Our favourite restaurant! Would highly recommend Othello's, the food is always great and the prices are very reasonable! The steaks are always huge!! The staff are so friendly and welcoming which is something that definitely lacks in other restaurant these days.

My main course was a delicious steak in madeira sauce, but received completely unhelpful and patronising advice when I asked the waiter if their were nuts in the recipe, on account of my partner's nut allergy. All I was told was that "It's a masala" — not madeira — "sauce" as though I should already know the ingredients. It wasn't taken seriously and I still had no idea whether it was safe to share. That was the worst of three times I felt the waiting staff didn't give a toss about their customer's questions.Delicious food, but they need to give a bit more care for their customers safety, and comfort, especially for the price.

As I'm not a big lover of steak, I ordered the mixed grill which was a combination of different types of kebab. It was lovely, as was the rice and salad it came with. I would definitely order this again.

As always a comfortable and relaxing eating experience.A mussel starter was followed by a trout main course both excellent and improved by bottles of Aphrodite wine.Service was attentive and friendly.Othellos remains top of our local list.

Had our Anniversary meal here, we have been eating in this restaurant on special occasions for the last 32 years, since moving into the area. The fillet steak melts in your mouth and vegetables are all cooked perfectly. The best in the area Upminster/Hornchurch for quality and service. Thank you Othellos

Today it was my first time eating at othellos some of my family have been here before. I’d like to start with how friendly the staff are, the food was lovely and the size of the portion of food is amazing. I would defiantly recommend this resturant

Ok I have to confess this was not our first choice as we intended to go to our usual place but for the first time couldn't get a lunch time booking on Christmas Day. So, we rang this restaurant and they did squeeze us in at a higher price of £65 a head which is more than we paid last year but we were ever hopeful it would be worth it. On arrival we found the place decorated with the minimum of items mostly taking me back to the 1960's when times were more austere with a few tinfoil concertina type efforts strung corner to corner .Anyway, there was some Christmas music playing at 3 p.m. so some sort of atmosphere was being attempted by the mainly elderly team of waiters who must have have supplied the Christmas decs :0) Choice was already very limited as it's turkey or turkey for the main course, so I was kind of hopeful that they might have cooked half a dozen large turkeys for the festive occasion. Sadly this was not the case as I will explain later. Anyway, I had smooth pate for starter and there was plenty to be fair but it seemed pretty cheap and mediocre, Toast was provided but this was cold, bread was also in a basket but had a strange olive tang which is not to all tastes. So, after pulling the cheapest crackers in the world were pulled we found the same joke in most of them...only funny the first time you hear it! Then the turkey arrived and the excitement started to build..or I think it was turkey as it was obviously not cut off a real bird in recent history and had no taste whatsoever. Stuffing was provided in a fairly large portion but was 'luke warm' and appeared almost uncooked with the sausages similarly seeming to be microwaved with no sign of browning. Peas were like bullets and brussel sprouts edible but by no means very hot or enjoyable (and yes I do like sprouts normally). No sign of a parsnip or a Yorkshire pudding either or anything to make things a little more acceptable and special.I was completely and utterly disappointed as were my family and guests. The sweet was no better with a cheese cake that had a strange tang to it and Christmas pudding ladled sparingly with a small amount of lumpy custard. Coffee provided was not very hot, hurried and they also forget one of the guests. Mince pies brought out were not even warmed and were the cheapest you can buy so it appeared; I took one mouthful and left the rest. Finally, my elderly friend is disabled and when he went to go to the toilet he was advised there was NO DISABLED TOILET. Is that even legal in this day and age? He had to climb two sets of stairs with his stick and was only asked at the last minute if he would like to use the toilet in the 'restaurant next door'. One member of staff stood out as particularly friendly, the only female waiter. I would suggest she works somewhere else next Christmas as I suspect she knew how poor a show they had put on for this very special family meal once a year. I am told this restaurant is supposed to be very good the rest of the year....I wont be going back to find out................if YOU take a chance in 2019 and eat there at Christmas I promise I wont say I told you so when you write your own similar review next year........

Excellent food and great service

If you are fond of well presented and well cooked food and have a healthy appetite,this is the place to visit.I enjoyed a beautiful wing of skate and an excellent asparagus starter.No five stars however as the creme caramel pudding was the worst I have ever tasted.

The steaks are excellent very good size and cut of fillet vegetables excellent nice choice of deserts on trolley good wine list staff are very good lots of waiters lots of tables the Sunday roast is great value for 3 courses average decor if a bit dated decent night out good value

We have been here several times, And I keep meaning to write a review, finally doing it! Our last visit was on my birthday three weeks ago. It is quite simply one of the best restaurants we’ve been to. It’s not stylish and glitzy, or so up market you need a mortgage to eat there, it unlikeky you will bump into anyone from TOWIE(there’s the silver lining).What you get is a friendly welcome from the courteous staff. A restautant that, without being derogatory, is a bit dated. However, that is part of the charm. A very extensive menu that covers British and Greek, plus the specials. I defy anyone NOT to find something delicious to eat. The portions are very generous, so remeber this when ordering starters and main course. They have a dessert trolley, so be prepared to struggle with your choice.Add to all this the attentive table staff, who don’t rush you. Prices that will not break the bank, and you are set to have a lovely dining experience.This sort of restaurant is hard to find for quauntity, quality and value for money.

My wife and I used to use this restaurant a lot, with friends and family. It was always excellent.Friendly, good food and good service.Unfortunately due to an former friend we stopped using it in case we bumped into them.But after 8 years we came back.It was superb, excellent food, super steaks, Miller and Carter could learn a lot!Excellent warm friendly service and a lovely place.We ready enjoyed it.Oh don’t eat too much bread at the start and don’t over order on the side dishes.

My bestie took me here to congratulate me on my new job. I really enjoy steak but I was yet to find a really nice steak and believe me you will find it here. It was juicy, there was no effort to cut through it, your knife just slipped through, it was tender and easy to chew. I've had a lot of steak where I felt as if I was burning off calories just trying to cut through the meat and then eat it! The staff were very friendly as well, it had a nice old style feel to it. They took my coat when I came in and got it when I left. Very attentive towards us as well. If I wasn't so stuffed after dinner I would have had dessert because they brought it round on a little trolley and it looked so tasty. It was very quite inside, maybe a little too quite,but unlike some places where the music is so loud you can't even hear yourself think, your able to have a conversation with who your with. So I would say that is a plus. I would recommend anyone who is a steak lover to come here. *On Trip Advisor

This is a family favourite! Very old school steak house, nice feeling from the moment you walk in! Nice selection of classic British dishes! Lovely staff and nice interior.

Worth a visit, went here on a Saturday night. Wine is so reasonably priced & there's a good selection. Decor is a bit dingy but felt like we had walked into an old restaurant in Greece! Food was really nice we had the meezde for two, you get so much food! For the main the meat was so tender. The waiter was a wind up merchant and a joker too.

Very average old fashioned restaurant. Strange atmosphere, odd mix of clients, very poor lamb kleftiko... everyone gone home by 10pm on a Saturday. Not good.

I wanted to come for ages but always putt of cause the price...Tonight with something to celebrate we head in.. We had as show the pictures a delicious cornet of prawns and salmon and scallops wrapped in bacon.As mains steak Diane and rack of lamb with asparagus, lyonesse potatoes and fried courgettes!! We didn't need that much!All with a superb rioja reserva. Perfect combination!Service wasn't great but was more than correct.If I have to say a but would be that the bread before the aperitif was a bit soggy but doesn't Matter All together came to £84. Quite pricy but totally worth it.I recommend it for a special occasion.

We decided not to have the traditional Sunday roast as we can quite easily do this at home. Instead we chose Lamb kleftico and a Greek salad. Having eaten in many Greek restaurants we were surprised when a plate of rice arrived adorned with a chunk of lamb which had been cooked in a very thin gravy, and although tender had absolutely no taste whatsoever. The salad was minscule and nothing like Greek salads we have had at home and abroad. To say we were disappointed was an understatement, and the service was pretty poor. We wasn't offered our change back but we assume that they thought it was a tip!

The atmosphere is authentic, excellent service and friendly waiters overall. The food is cooked perfectly well, good combination of spices, everything I expected from Greek cuisine. Great value for the quality of service and food. Going back soon if I get hungry around Upminster.

I red a lot of people complaining about the staff here but I had no problems they were very quick to have me and my boyfriend seated. One gentlemen came over the ask how our day was which I thought was lovely. We both had medium fillet steak which was HUGE! It was cooked to perfection. The prices here are very very good for what you get, I would definitely return x

This restaurant has the old fashioned Greek charm. Portions are to say the least "ample"! , so try not to over order. The moussaka is very good,as is the fish and veal.A very good choice of menu.Open on Sundays for traditional roast ad well.An easy going atmosphere, you don't feel hurried. Deffinately worth a visit for a pleasant evening.

Fantastic food never disappointed great service

Have been here twice recently and enjoyed both occasions. Ideal venue for hungry carnivores,as the portions are large and meat predominates on the menu. Wine prices reasonable and the staff are friendly.

I love the food here, but when we went, the tables were all too close together for it to be comfortable.

I’ve been going here for 11 years and I’ve never had a bad experience. It’s not a fancy dinning place, but it is what it is . Amazing food , would highly recommend the kleftiko and chicken chasseur. The guys that wait there are so cute and friendly. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a relaxed dining experience but high quality food !

Well they never disappoint always very welcoming and the food that they serve is always delicious .. if you want true home cooked food not like the chains that we have on the high streets this is the place.. Greek food that’s cooked from the heart! Portions that they give you will not get anywhere else! The restaurant is clean and tidy not posh but I didn’t come here for posh I came here for the food and the lovely waiters that’s always have a smile on their faces! What more can you want from a restaurant that stood through the test of time and still here when many others closed! We went here on Thursday 25th of jan Paid for a special kebab from the menu off the blackboard it was kofte kebab To pay 15 pounds for a underrated kebab is criminal .. there was no salad apart from a minuscule bit on the side .. my local gives more for just 5 pounds The wine glasses was basic Tesco glasses .. don’t like red wine In them . Wouldn’t go back again Nothing special here there is better restaurants with that extra touch of luxury for the same price in Brentwood

First starting visiting here around 6 years ago and would go every 4 months or so. Now, we go around once a month as we've realised that very few local restaurants hit the spot time after time, treat you like family and you never leave without having had a great meal and an enjoyable evening. I love to eat out and am more than happy to travel for a good meal.There's just something about the place that keeps bringing us back. It's not trendy, in fact, it's set in a bit of a 70's time warp but it has a certain charm and after eating yet another great meal, who cares. The staff have all been there for years and like to have a laugh and joke with you & until fairly recently, they even had a 1970's style dessert trolley with the obligatory cheesecake, trifle, fruit salad, black forest gateaux, rum baba – a real blast from the past – now with hygiene rules etc. they've got it all refrigerated.The vast majority of diners are regulars who have been going there for years & I can understand why....the food is great, always plenty of it and very reasonably priced.My other half nearly always has the T bone steak which he drools over and whilst I'm not much of a meat eater, I always have a slither which is delicious and superb quality. Whoever supplies their meat – it's top notch according to my husband. No veg or potatoes provided with the meals but plenty of choice and very reasonable prices. I can totally recommend the saute potatoes and the deep fried courgettes – I can't go there without always having those – they're delish. Can also totally recommend the calves liver cooked in sage and butter.I get very bored with “chain” restaurants who all work to a “formula” with the look and branding as to what is successful. I like Othello as they concentrate on what is important – their food and their customers and that's why we all keep coming back.You even get After Eights with the bill.......gotta love it.

Mediocre experience, starter wasn't very well thought out or executed but the mixed grill main was ok. Service was a little rude and hasty so I feel I've been quite generous with this review, however I won't be returning.

Have eaten here many times but have never reviewed this restaurant. Typical med. restaurant with a good varied menu, food has always been good especially the steaks which are of good portions, staff are very good professional but friendly, I don't think you would leave this restaurant ever feeling hungry. will return soon.

We thought we would give this restaurant a try as we enjoy Mediterranean food. While dining I was unaware that a grey haired predator waiter was standing behind me winking at my wife, my wife started telling me what he was doing as the waiter quickly leaned forward and said to me my wife was winking at him, my wife replied “no I didn’t, you could have caused a lot of trouble”. I could see my wife wasn’t winking back but she was looking a little puzzled at the time. The waiter then walked off and disappeared. I was thinking is this guy for real, this could have easily turned real ugly. My wife was fuming at this liar, we were surprised that the waiter would have the cheek to behave in such a manner and this completely ruined our meal. We have never had an experience like this before and certainly won’t be going back to this sleazy restaurant again.

Have been eating here for about 30 years and in all that time I have only had one meal that was not up to the usual standard, staff always helpful and the menu as a good selection would recommend this restaurant to everyone

My favourite resteraunt for my steak dinner, you will have to go some way to find a better steak, also a very good selection of main courses and the sweet frilly is to die for.

We booked a table for 6 people for 21.12.17, there was nothing festive, no Christmas crackers even on the table, when asked about this we were told - It's not Christmas yet! Never been to a restaurant this close to Christmas with nothing festive going on, the waiters were rude, one in particular and when we asked for the bill it was not itemised, when we asked for it to be itemised we were given menus to work it out for ourselves! I've been there in the past and the service has been fine, not tonight though, dreadful, won't be going back
