Osteria in Gwynedd

We called in on spec to see if they could accommodate us and they did. The chef and the staff member that night were charming. From recommending wine to telling us the story behind the dish I had chosen. We were welcomed like old friends, fed like long lost family and bid farewell like we would return tomorrow. I would highly recommend this restaurant

My partner and I had a lovely evening at Osteria recently when visiting the area for the weekend. The food and wine was exceptional and a perfect atmosphere - we could have been in Tuscany! Our lovely waiter for the evening, Max, was knowledgeable and talked us through every dish and could answer all of our questions. The chef was brilliant, not only was his food perfect, it was nice to see him in the restaurant and to have a brief chat with him. We really hope to be back if we are in the area again!

Took my 11yr old daughter tonight and the service was exceptional! The team and Chef explained the difference of flavours to her. Outstanding customer service with the added bonus of what she couldn't finished being boxed up. Delicious food!

Quaint “hole in the wall” Italian Restaurant. It was a spur of the moment decision to go here but we were warmly welcomed and served. The food was incredible. I had the Arrabbiata which was deliciously moreish with a nice lil kick from the chillies. Compliments to the Tuscan Chef!

The most authentic and wonderful Italian food I've eaten outside of Italy, in years. A small setting, lovely, friendly waiter. A chef that comes out to talk and enjoy his guests, beautiful, and I mean BEAUTIFUL food, cooked like Nonna made it herself. Osteria was absolutely perfect, I was in the area for work but I cannot wait to come back with my family.

If you love pasta, then it's the place to eat. Staff friendly. The restaurant is only small, so booking is recommended to avoid disappointment....

A little piece of Italy in the centre of Caernarfon. Nice simple menu, with all the dishes cooked and served well. The pasta main courses were particularly delicious.

Tonight I ate the best Italian meal I’ve had outside of Italy… at Osteria Caernarfon in Wales. The chef is from Florence, and he has a passion for his work, often coming out of the kitchen to chat with patrons, talking about his creations, genuinely interested in how the food was being received. Highly recommended.

A really excellent little Tuscan experience! Great bruschetta and an excellent pasta and Ragu. All washed down with a nice Chianti. Reasonable value as well. Clearly prepared and cooked by someone with passion for the food that they produce. Perhaps a little unassuming but highly recommended.

Possibly the worst meal I have ever eaten. The whole venue stunk of cigarettes and was rather unpleasant. Pasta seemed like some tinned tomatoes had just been poured on with no flavour. Bruschetta special had some nice elements others not so much. Macdonalds trip required after.

Spur of the moment decision to book a table. Never been in before and had no idea what to expect. Very pleasant small Tuscan restaurant tucked away in a small street near the castle in Caernarvon. Very friendly service.Not a lot of items on the menu,but what we had was delicious...with good portion sizes for the two pasta dish specials we chose. Well worth checking out!

Came here on a Saturday night to an almost empty restaurant. We ordered two specials (ragu pasta and pistachio pesto pasta). The pistachio pasta was basically chopped up nuts and a cup of olive oil and the ragu was flavourless and over cooked. When we expressed our dissatisfaction to the staff, the response from the server was “well I don’t work in the kitchen so I don’t care”. We sent back the food after eating less than a quarter and were given 5 pound off. Working in tourism myself, I was appalled at both the lack of quality and professionalism provided by this restaurant, especially considering it’s overall reviews. Skip it if you can.

Arguably one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. After being greeted by a relatively empty restaurant with at least a few spare tables, we were begrudgingly showed upstairs. After poring over the unusually limited menu (four pasta options, an extensive bruschetta collection, and three specials), we decided to have two “specials”. Perhaps the definition of special is lost on this establishment given the nature of what we received. The “ragu” was littered with enough peppercorns to season a small wedding and the meat was very overcooked to the point of having an earthy consistency. The pistachio “pesto” was simply a handful of chopped up pistachio with some glamour herbs thrown in for a faux refined look. What added insult to injury was the tidal pool of oil and grease that gave the lower portion of the dish a nice shimmery finish - it was verging on inedible. We don’t normally complain about the food we eat unless it was exceptional circumstances, in this instance exceptional was a gleaming understatement. After we expressed our concerns with the quality of the food, we were met with the comment “well I don’t work in the kitchen so I don’t care”. We were quite stunned at such a fanfare of unprofessionalism and were quick to leave the restaurant. The rude server was kind enough to offer us a generous five pounds off and showed no remorse in the delivery of one of the worst dining experiences since the red wedding. Skip it if you can.

Very disappointed with the ready-made pasta of poor quality. Pasta with truffles, mushrooms instead of truffles, very salty. No pizza. Very poor menu. Only white wine was tasty.

Place is small, even with an upstairs. Recommend booking first if want to eat here. Popped in & greeted warmly by waiter, who began reciting to myself everything vegan/vegetarian, even while he seated us & gave us menus. Thankfully he stopped when I interrupted and told him I wasn't vegetarian. Maybe because I was a woman or coloured or I was wearing a dress or I smiled??!!!! Not enough staff, so waiter was profusely apologetic, but we did get served/drinks. Starter of shared platter was delicious, though in Italy it's usual to have some plain (assorted) bread to eat the salami/cheese etc with. The main of pasta was nice - we ate as much as we could (even a small bowl was a lot). It was v.pricey given the pasta probably wasn't fresh, the peas were dull looking rather than green and the sausage was in tiny pieces - I make better pasta at home. We didn't get dessert, but a table nearby did get pannacotta - 2 small portions that looked beautiful, probably tasty, but again v.expensive for what it is. If you don't want chips then this is a good enough, expensive place to eat in Caenarfon.

Cute atmosphere, friendly and easy going/chatty staff and I was able to ask the cook for a vegan version of the vegetarian platter and it was lovely with beans, grilled veggies, bruschetta selection and fried bread. All in all a very lovely experience for traditional Italian food even for a vegan!

Highly recommend this authentic Italian restaurant. Fantastic food, Sergio's family recipes, imported Italian ingredients, outstanding wines, delicious desserts, smooth quality coffee. Remember to book!

A lovely friendly restaurant, great service! The bruschetta platter was delicious, all of them are wonderful. I had the vegetarian platter which was also tasty albeit a bit heavy on the olive oil and garlic. My partner chose a special of Tuscan sausage & bean pasta, which was just cheesy fusilli with some meat. It was fine, but for the price it didn't feel very much like a special. Wouldn't stop us returning though as the rest of the food was amazing.

Truly exceptional! I have eaten all over the world in many high end restaurants, but have never seen a man care as much about his food as the chef here. That absolutely came through in the quality of the food. The whole experience was incredible. It makes me sad that it is 7hrs from where we live.

Lovely dinner the other night. Brought the warmth of Tuscany to a chilly February night. Food and atmosphere top class. Highlights were the ability to have premium wine by the glass, the fried Tuscan bread and the vin santo custard. Will definitely come again.

Amazing restaurant in Bangor serving delicious food. The vegetarian platter was delicious and had a combination of hot and cold items on there. Favourite was the Coccoli bread

Wow, just wow. A very small restaurant with a small menu that is tucked away behind Caernafon Castle, making delicious authentic Tuscan food. We had 2x shared platters between 5 to start, and omg, the fried bread with honey was amazing, and I could have just eaten a massive bowl all on its own, we then had a small bowl of pasta which was full of flavour and definitely big enough after the platters which were huge. The owner/chef was lovely and spent time talking to us, which was really nice. Overall, the only thing I'm annoyed about is that I don't live closer. We were in Pembrokeshire on holiday and drove all the way to Caernarfon and stayed an extra day just so we could go to this restaurant. That's how good it is!! I will definitely be going back, and soon.

What a nice little find. Managed to book a table on the day for 7.30pm. Friendly staff, great Chef and loved the way he was doing his rounds to customers to ask what he thought of the food. I couldn't fault it and said Bellissimo. It made him laugh. Had a 3 course meal. Bruschetta Funghi, the Special Ragu Bolognese followed by the Ice Cream Truffle with coffee sauce. All were fantastic and would definitely highly recommend and can see myself going back again. Friendly atmosphere and do not feel rushed.

A fantastic restraunt, and worth booking ahead if you’re only in Caernarfon for a short stay. The food and wine are excellent, as are the staff. I always leave feeling much better than when I arrived.

Absolutely wonderful meal here. One of the most tasteful and well cooked meals we've all had for some time. The carpaccio di montagna with coccoli was especially good. Great for kids and anyone who enjoys great food and great service.

Beautiful and romantic Tuscan-style restaurant located in the side streets of Caernafon. We booked through emailing the restaurant who replied promptly. The staff were attentive and the owner greeted and checked on all of the guests - achievable due to the small number of tables. Selection of wines from Italy available. Limited menu but a good selection of starters (platters and bruschette) with pasta/main specials. The selection of bruschette were delicious. Large servings of pasta in which the pasta itself was not overcooked - Amatriciana was flavourful but the sauce was slightly watery and the pancetta was small, not allowing proper browning to enhance the flavour further. Ragu was also served with well cooked pasta but lacked the depth of flavour expected from a slow cooked traditional ragu. We tried both the selection of panna cotte and the afforgato - both were lovely and a good end to the meal.

A quiet, relaxed and cosy atmosphere. Food was faultless and the staff were attentive without being overbearing. Chef and owner was passionate about his business. Highly recommend this restaurant. I'll be going out of my way to go back.

First time visit Saturday 25th June, it was such a wonderful meal the Tuscan food was excellent. We have been going to Italy for years and the food served replicated the food in Tuscany fantastic. The service was excellent the young man was up and down those stairs taking orders and serving, the food we give 10 out of 10 simple ingredients made special the Italian way.The final touch the chef came round and took the time to talk with everyone there. Thank you very much we will be back soon.

Been wanting to visit for a while and it didn't disappoint. Sergio (owner) extremely friendly. Recommended which wines to have and the food was gorgeous. The Osteria platter a definite highlight. If you want authentic Tuscan food, this quaint restaurant is a must. Reasonably priced and will definitely be back. Thank you to Sergio and his staff :)

Superb little place. A real Italian restaurant - no pizza, no spaghetti, just a very limited menu of actual rustic Tuscan food. An excellent example of "Do one thing, and do it well."!

Great authentic Italian cooked and served with real passion. Pretty venue. Great wine menu also. Note: If your Italian usually comes in a square cardboard box or a microwave then you will be disappointed. If, on the other hand, you enjoy great proper Italian (or want to try some) you will be rewarded.

Arrived and greeted by friendly staff. Main course wasn’t the best thin meat twinned with bacon in gravy. I was very surprised No Risotto no Pizzas . Staff were friendly throughout . Would I eat there again No. Would I recommend it as a place to eat.No

Excellent night out. Cosy Italian restaurant. Not many tables so good attentive service. Need to book!! Sergio the Chef also owns the establishment. Came to discuss our menu options and helpful with our choices. They don't do the standard Italian meals ie Pizza spaghetti etc. So don't go if that's your style. They specialize in home made Tuscan style food. We enjoyed the meals, wine. And not too expensive! Would definitely go again

Not many in restaurant due to Covid restrictions and maybe because it was a Tuesday. Gorgeous food and a nice touch when the Chef came to speak to us. If we're ever up that way again but definitely re-visit.

Please visit this restaurant! We were lucky enough to have the whole upstairs area to ourselves one night for dinner (blame it on the 6 people who decided not to turn up that evening!). The staff were immediately welcoming and so friendly and attentive; we felt right at home from the moment we entered to the moment we left. We ordered three courses and they were all flawless. The platters are amazing, we went with the traditional/favourite for a shared starter followed by a ragu then the almond chocolate cake. Everything tasted beautiful and we couldn't have wished for better food. The owner of Osteria (we forgot to get his name) personally came to check on us and chat to us between courses which was lovely and you could tell he was passionate and keen and really cared about his restaurant and guests. I can't fault our experience and I would urge you to give Osteria a try because it is fantastic!

Visited the restaurant about three weeks ago. Food was beautiful and delicious. Booked for my girlfriends birthday on a trip away and fairplay to the owner he came out with a candle on the dessert and sang happy birthday and everything (great voice!) Staff were welcoming and attentive. Bruchettas were outstanding, especially the pearl Las, walnut and honey. Had the share platters for main meat for myself veg for the mrs both delicious. Highly recommend a visit and a major thanks to Osteria for kicking off the weekend nicely. Diolch, Grazie.

As Italian myself, I really felt back home whilst eating some genuine products from Italy, very well cooked and true to tradition. The owner and chef as well as the waiters were very welcoming, and found us a table even though it was almost closure time. It was a really pleasant evening, with superb food and wine, in a clean and friendly environment. Do not miss it!

My husband and myself ate in here on a long weekend trip to North Wales....what a find...the meal was fantastic...the proprietor and chef is enthusiastic about Tuscan food and this is transferred to the meal. Excellent service and value for money.....would recommend to everyone ⭐

Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere and delicious food. We were lucky to get a table for four without a booking but the place was very busy, when people were leaving new people were coming, so booking is recommended.

Small and cosy, this restaurant is a real find. The menu is small but the food is excellent and very good value for money. We visited on a busy night and the staff worked very hard but were still keen to hear your views on their food. Booking is essential and as there is no online system, a call or visit in advance is essential.

The third time we have been there and we always have a fantastic time. Every time we have gone for the osteria platter as it has a great selection and is divine. The staff are friendly and efficient, while the place is lovely and clean. A must of yoy are looking for somewhere in the area. Highly recommended.
