I've ordered from here a few times, my partner likes the sushi but I can't eat raw fish so I usually pick something hot. This time it was the Teriyaki Chicken, no, sorry, I meant old tasting chicken in a nest of beansprouts and raw onion. There was no sauce or teriyaki flavour at all. Just endless beansprouts. That was officially the last time I'll order from here.

I ordered £35 worth of food via just eat , went to collect it , food wasn’t ready & there was only one person serving & he was on the phone . I ordered 2 ramen , sushi , sea food dumburi . 25 minutes later the food was ready , when I got home opened the food it was disgusting. Ramen went straight to the bin it consist of fried stuff like vegetables very old taste , sea food dumburi wasn’t there instead he gave us fried fish which was again very soggi & old . Only thing that was worth eating was spring rolls & the salmon sushi rest went to the bin . What a waist of money & time .

If I could leave 0 that would be too good for this place. Food was AWFUL. Avocado in sushi set bad, vegetable fried rice well let’s call it boiled rice with chunks of carrots and onions with savour taste in it and dumplings were burned. When I rang the person couldn’t even speak in English properly, so really no one cared for the complain. Never again 🤢🤢🤢 Please don’t lie this is how you cook normally and don’t lie about how you asked to bring food back, you only reply because other people can see it. Do you really think I need £20 back? No thank you I’m just telling other people about disgraceful food you serve. Just had a look on Tripadvisor , so many bad reviews about your food so I’m definetely not making it up, how you just assumed in your shameful reply.

If I could leave zero stars I would. Just experienced the worst customer service ever. Their food is ok, nothing special and therefore overpriced. I spent nearly £30 and was given the smallest portion of wasabi and soy sauce. I asked for more after having paid and was told I would have to pay more which I was happy to do but it would have to be cash as under their limit. I only had a card on me which I used to pay for main order. It was at this point the ‘chef’ lost it claiming he told me this last time which he most definitely did not. What ensued was a tirade of abuse when I refused to accept his lies. He went as far as to call me a liar. Why would I try and avoid paying £1.50 extra having just spent £28??? I would never step foot in this establishment again and urge others to proceed with caution. Customer service obviously isn’t on the menu!

never come here!! we went in there and the man there wasnt welcoming at all and was extremely rude. We asked if we can order and he said he doesnt want us to order. Maybe racist? never coming here again, we didnt even get to try the food becuase he didnt want to serve us nor would i of liked to try as the place was also dirty and he was handling food with his bare hands whistle scratching his head. dont come here.

Disgusting Customer Service. We phoned to make a delivery order and the person who pick up the phone was very rude and impolite. Although the web page says the minimum order for delivery is £20, he said we have to order £40 and thst he did’t care what the web page says. While were deciding what else to order for that amount of money, he said he was very busy and couldn’t wait. And the sushi was nothing special, very low value for money... Horrible experience, not recommended at all.

I'm not experienced with Japanese food, but I love Sashimi. This is the best I've had, great variety and always really fresh and tasty. I'm working my way though the menu and learning as I go what else Japanese cuisine has to offer, so far I've been delighted!

Honestly some of the best fresh made sushi and sashimi that I've had and I am a true sushi fan. Loved the Maki and the California rolls but the Sashimi was great too

I've eaten in Onami on many occasions and, have always loved it and believed it to be good value for money. However, I placed an order tonight and after collecting it, I found my duck temaki to be extremely fatty with avocado instead of cucumber which should have been in it. I threw this away on my way home due to being repulsed by what I was meant to consume. I then got home and opened my chicken katsu curry. After taking a few bites, I found that not only did it taste extremely tangy, I came across a long black hair. I then went back to the shop to return and ask for a full refund however, was spoke to with an awful amount of attitude by the lady serving me and was told I could only be refunded for the curry as I could not give evidence of the fatty duck. What ever happened to the customer is always right? Will not be eating from here again and, wouldn't recommend to anyone else unless they like their food served with a side of rudeness.

Ordered a chicken chilli ramen from this place, what I received which you will see from the photo is a soggy piece of breaded chicken on a bed of super noodles with no chilli’s. When ringing up to complain I was met with shouting, screaming and being sworn at. He then put the phone down on me after telling me to foxtrot Oscar. Will never be using this place again after that customer service and the state of the food. My friend who paid accidentally gave him the wrong money in the shop, when confronted with is she apologised and gave the correct money, the manager then went on to accuse her of stealing even though she had given apologised and given him the correct money after an honest mistake. She then gave him 25p extra by accident, instead of him giving the money back he decided to put the 25p in his tip jar in front of her without asking. AWFUL

Had a takeaway with a few of my friends. firstly im not a hug fan of sushi, but my friends are. i must say they are mainly use to eating sushi in top end restaurants, and i myself only eat sushi in Roka, nobu and the likes, so i was dubious to order from here. we ordered on a Saturday night and had a very long wait which you grow accustom to when eating out or getting a takeaway in loughton on Saturday. i just fault the taste of the food was severely lacking, the teriyaki dishes tastes far to sweet and sickly, and the chicken katsu was a big disappointment. a shame as i had heard good things from a few friends, maybe i caught them on an off nigh, highly doubt ill be returning to find out.

Use this place regularly and absolutely love the food and owner and staff are so friendly and welcoming highly recommend to anyone looking for good Japanese sushi locally

Here is where I get the best chicken katsu curry I have ever had. Also get the special fried rice when not getting chicken katsu curry. This is a little gem, keep coming back.

Have been here a few times now and the food is consistently delicious. I really like the little restaurant, where you can sit and eat if you are not ordering take away. This is such a little gem in the Loughton area - would recommend to anyone.

It's such a surprise to enjoy lunch on a random visiting. I ordered giaoza set (damplins) and a Bento box, and FINISHED them all~ So stuffed and feel so so good!! very nice lunch, very clever choic. Treat youself here, you won't regret😍

This place was a little unusual. But. The food was fantastic. All the sushi , tempura and duck was well cooked and prepared. Not had a lot better elsewhere and I like my sushi. Not really a dine in establishment unless it's for lunch or a quick bite then not a lot better. But for a night time meal I would not recommend as its too small and although the staff are very accommodating there was only 2 of them and they're dealing with tale away orders mostly. The food however came in good time. There was no wine. Big no no from the wife. Loops but not a lot to complain about . Can seat about 10 people comfortably inside but I'm s u 're they have seating outside during the day. Oh did I say the food was great.

Give this place a try, all made to order. Deliveries can take a while because of this so I tend to collect but worth the wait.

Ordered and collected a lovely vegetarian sushi set. All was made fresh in front of me while I waited. Will go back for more soon.

Very fresh sushi. Efficient delivery, a little bit on the expensive side, but with Sushi, you do tend to get what you pay for

The sushi from here is very good and the portions are above average sizes but it is far too expensive ,especially for a take away in Oakwood hill,I eat here frequently ,good food but too pricey

Food was over 2 hours late! It was cold and soggey and the manager of no apology never any sort of compensation. It spoilt our evening and will never use them again.

After several visits without a smile or a thank you I ended up having a conversation with the staff about the importance of being friendly and polite to your customers. Every point I made was met with 'it makes no difference' from the manager. Well that's funny because I'm never going back again!A smile costs nothing, unlike your expensive menu and your food isn't good enough to override the negative effect of your rudeness.

My husband and I have been ordering takeaway from Onami for a while now and have never been disappointed, the food has always been fresh, lovely to look at and delicious to eat - but today I am compelled to write a review because...we just ate the best salmon sashimi ever! It's always very good, but this was amazing and inspired me to finally write that review as it is so well deserved. OK, the price can soon add up, but it's such a delicacy and takes a lot of expertise to prepare - we're not talking about pizza dough and toppings! We're already looking forward to the next time we treat ourselves. Thanks Onami chefs.

The food is fantastic, but the place is just a takeaway. I find £50 for a takeaway a bit over the top, but have to say the food is great

Strange experienceThe chap running it needs a lesson in customer serviceNot really a restaurant, more a takeaway with a couple of tables and some chairs piled up in the corner.Owner looked very put out that I turned up 20 min early Even though the place was empty. My son tried to talk to him in Japanese and was blanked.I ask for orange juice and was abruptly told he didn't have any. I ask for an alternative and he walked off. After 10 min I had to go and find Him to ask for some tap water which he reluctantly gave us.Food was ok but not a pleasant dinning experience.

ordered for the first time this evening as so many people have recommended it. Went for a variety of salmon/Tuna dishes totalling about £35. When i arrived i was told that the Omelette Nigiri wasn't available . . . . . . and then reluctantly offered my £2 back. When i got home i thought the Sushi looked amazing, then looking deeper noticed that Salmon set which should of had 2 x Salmon Sashimi, 2 x Smoked Salmon Sashimi and 2 x Seared Salmon Sashimi was actually 6 x salmon sashimi, not what i expected and a small disappointment, i called up as i assumed he had made an error. I was then told they don't do that anymore and 6x salmon sashimi was correct, he then used the famous line 'our regulars know that' to which i said i wasnt a regular.anyway, we carried on eating and my wife had started eating her favourite (Salmon and Avocado inside out roll). However, she was surprised to know that this came with spicy mayonnaise, i double checked the menu to ensure i hadnt made the error and again called the restaurant to ask very nicely if it was spicy mayonnaise or was my wife imagining it? he then said yes, this is correct and again used the famous quote ' our regulars know that'. I explained again I wasn't a regular and then he started to moan at me and ended up slamming the phone down. What was meant to be a special treat turned into a horrible sushi experience from a very rude restaurant-er.Dont think i will make it to becoming a 'regular'

I went to get a takeaway, the food was quite pricey but sushi always is. The quality of the food was good and did taste lovely but the service was terrible, no customer service at all and plain rude. I would get a delivery but never go in there.

Just popped in there for lunch. Excellent service. And the food (chicken curry) was absolutely delicious. I know where I'll be eating for the next week. Highly recommend

Don't think I've ever had such poor poor service!Ordered a take away from them and 1 hr and 45 mins later the food arrives- well only some of it! 3 dishes missing and parts of order wrong. Called the restaurant to say what was missing and he was very defensive. I said i would pay for half the order as only half arrived- but he said no. He demanded I send the food back with the delivery driver if I wouldn't pay the full bill amount.Not once did he apologise for the poor service, late delivery or Missing food.Don't make the mistake I did and order from here!

Just had the most amazing sushi from Onami. Delivered on time and a great service when i called. Would highly recommend and we will definately be ordering again. It was fabulous

We visited tonight at the request of my daughter for her 13th birthday meal. We first went to Onami on the day they opened 18 months ago and have popped in a few times since. The food is amazing and the Onami team always welcoming and smiling.We had a mix of sushi and I tried the octopus sashimi which was lovely. My pork katsu curry was great. Full of flavour but not overly spicy. The goyza dumplings were delightful and the girls had duck pancakes which they loved.Sushi is never cheap and you pay for what you get. The quality here is top notch and they prepare it all as you wait. For 3 of us, with drinks, we paid just under £40 and are all full. Much better value and much better taste than somewhere like Yo Sushi. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed my first food at Onami, it had been recommended form a regular user but twenty five minutes to wait for a take out order, and Edame beans which were inedible did put me off returning

Unacceptable. took me 16 minutes to make my order because they didn't speak good enough English, then after telling me it would take 40 minutes to deliver, Im still waiting almost 2 hours later. Have called them 19 times and engaged the entire time, and no alternative number. TOTAL joke. If you cant handle doing deliveries because you are too busy, DONT DO THEM!! I expect a full refund.

Just got my first takeaway from here after hearing many rave reviews. There's not a great deal of sushi choices in Essex and after hearing that the chef had a background from nobu I decided to give it a try. As someone who is obsessed with Japan and its culture, we eat ALOT of sushi. Must say that the fish was extremely fresh and delicious and unlike most other places there is a huge amount rather than a tiny slather. Don't be put off by the location of this restaurant as its really good and delicious. Will be ordering again, Thankyou!

The food here is the best sushi I have ever had The chef prepares the food fresh whilst you wait The restaurant itself is more a take away with home delivery if wanted. But it has a few tables and its more than adequate It is a real gem and people come from miles around to eat here Brentwood, Colchester Chelmsford!!! I cant recommend it highly enough

We made a lunch booking for 4 having researched on TA what was available in the area as we were visiting from 150 miles away. We accidentally drove past the restaurant as it looked like a small Café, we decided to try it anyway and without question had some of the best Sushi we'd ever had, and we have been to some really famous Sushi restaurants. Please don't be put off by the location and style of building just sit down and enjoy truly fantastic food and a warm welcome from the owner Fon.

Ok so the location is not so great and ok the ambience is just so so ... BUT . The food is pretty amazing . Order the lunch box ... Wait a while and wow awesome.:. Take out is also an option

Former head chef of Nobu Mayfair now runs this place. What a stroke of luck to have it at the end of my street.Onami offers a good, extensive menu which is all cooked to perfection and all the favourites are there. We can easily spend £30 on a takeaway from Onami. They operate from a rather unprepossessing cafe style small building but do NOT let this put you off.

This place is awesome, the owner is so lovely and highly skilled - he makes incredible sushi, really tasty and for a reasonable price! Definitely worth a visit. You can sit inside (if you're a group of less than 4) or just order it to take away.

After being recommend by a friend, we have been going to this local Japanese restaurant for over 6 months, the Sushi is always fresh, the rolls are made to order and not stored in a fridge beforehand.If you have time, try the Tempura prawns fresh by eating in the restaurant. It is much better then takeaway as it is cooked to order.As the chef/ owner ( his name is Fung) used to work at some of the top Japanese restaurants in London, he will also serve some of their signature dishes, like Blackcod in miso (£18 a portion instead of £45 in London) and Yellowtail with Jalapeño. For the adventurous eater, try the thin cut Octopus with dried Soy sauce crystals.We have never had a bad meal here.

Being a bit fussy about sushi, I took the plunge and ordered takeaway from this bijou little 'cafe-style' eaterie.Well - here I found the best sushi. Fresh and tasty and overall just perfect. I don't say that lightly. I've tried almost all the dishes and have eaten their food 7 or 8 times now.Long may they stay. I dread them closing down as it is a small and not very well known outfit. Highly recommend. It's a little treasure.

Tried this sushi cafe for the first time this lunchtime. We were welcomed by the owner who was friendly. You can tell that he is well trained in restaurants of a high standard. The food was so nice the Tempura batter was light and the prawns were so tasty and fresh. The Chicken noodles were the best that we have tasted. The Sushi was also perfect. We will be returning and recommending it to our friends and families.

1st visit but we will be back. Sushi is superb, tempura light and crispy. Seafood salad unbelievable. Mackerel will never taste the same again. Friendly and extremely skilled staff. We couldn't fault it. Extremely good value for money as the quality and freshness of the food would be hard to beat.

I was told to pop in here by a friend as I love sushi, I walked in and was greater by the owner who instantly made me feel welcome, the comedy act that insude with him and his trainee was brilliant but half as brilliant as the food, the quality was amazing and super fresh, so good was it in fact that I felt the need to write a review, the only fault I had was that parking is a bit of a pain.

Surprising addition to the local area. Sushi is excellent, fairly pricey but worth the money. Much healthier and fresher than other local takeaways.

In all honesty I rarely use Onami except as a takeout. But I use them very regularly (the owner knows my girlfriends voice on the phone and either of us should we walk in) because I love sushi and this is the only genuine sushi restaurant for a long way around. The food is always as it should be; skillfully prepared, tasty, and fresh as possible. In fact I've never dropped in and they pull a roll from the fridge it's always made in the spot with fresh fish and rice. My only possible gripe is the miso, which is mediocre at best.Side from the food. The staff are just really nice people. My local Chinese usually bark down the phone at me, the Indian turns up 30 mins late and still expects a tip. These guys send free drinks if they're late, and twice their card machine has died and they've sent the food anyway and just asked that we phone back to pay. When we made a large order for us and friends, actually refused a tip for delivery. Seriously lovely people.Great food. Great service. Great people.

For lovers of raw fish and other Classic Japanese cooking. Onami delivers for half of Central London prices.Highly recommend if you appreciate quality ingredients.

Excellent addition to local food scene - eaten here twice, sushi is very fresh, great flavours, decent portions and friendly service. Well worth a visit.

Pork Katsu was too thickly breaded and pork too tough. Tempura prawns were soggy and under seasoned too, the dipping sauce was tasteless, bland and we'll, odd.You get the picture, I won't be going back.

This little sushi café and take away is a brilliant addition to the local food scene. The food is fantastic, service is friendly and the prices are very reasonable. You can eat in there or take-away and they also do home delivery. My only concern is that they only have a few tables and now we've told so many people how good it is it will always be full when we want to go there!It's our new favourite take-away, it's been more than a month since we had an Indian or Chinese meal...
